Entry 11- My little sister can't be a scary ghost
...
"Courage is endurance for one moment more…"
-Unknown Marine Second Lieutenant in Vietnam
The nights in Tokyo could be a lot worse, at least Konata still had Kagami, that was always an upside. It had only been maybe 15 minutes since Konata and the others unintentionally knocked down the Titan, but at least they were still in one piece, which as a lot more than they could say about the Major, or at least, that's what they hoped.
Anyway, after a few minutes of pure nothing; sweet, sweet nothing, Konata, Kagami, Yutaka, Minami, Misao and Patty made their way down the building next to the Titan. It was a relatively short trip down considering how high up they were just a minute ago, but at any rate, the girls were taking their time going down the old abandoned skyscraper.
On their way down, Misao got bored and started to talk. "Hmm. Wonder how much it will cost to fix that building?" She said to herself sarcastically.
"Why don't we ask Miyuki, she tends to know that kinda stuff." Konata replied.
"You can't always expect Miyuki to know the answers Konata." Kagami said to her.
"You're right Kagami, I could always just copy it off of your homework and find out myself." Konata replied.
At first Kagami was about three second away from breaking her fist over her head, but soon decided against it.
Yutaka, who up to this point had been mostly silent, replied to Kagami's lack of conversation or reply. "Why do you always let her copy your homework?" She asked innocently.
Kagami groaned. "Don't know..." She said to herself. "I honestly don't know." She said sighing.
Misao decided to have her input again. "I know why." She said to her in a not duo friendly way.
She went up and whispers it into Kagami's ears. When she finished, at first, no response, then Kagami finally let whatever it was set in and she punched Misao across the face. "What the hell! I'm not a..." She noticed she was about to blurt out something so ridiculously stupid that everyone would only laugh at her. "Ah, never mind." She said to herself.
"You know Kagami. Denying whatever it was can't be a good thing." She said with a smile.
"Hey, do you want me to break my fist over your head or something?" Kagami asked Konata.
Konata chuckled. "Classic Tsundere." Konata did have another witty remark in response, something about her being a Tsundere but was unable to make the rebuttal because a big rifle found its barrel right in Konata's face. "Holy shit." She said to herself. At first most of the crew were already reaching for their guns before they realized who they encountered. Konata was still flinching and had her eyes shut and couldn't tell who was there, it wasn'til the rifle came down from her face that she noticed who was here.
"Sorry Konata." Hiyori said to her. "Ayano heard something and sent me over to check it out."
Konata's heart was still beating faster than most NASCAR [A/N The more you know- National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing] drivers drive. "It's okay." Konata assured. "We just had some uh, issues, a few minutes ago."
"You mean knocking down the building?" Hiyori asked kinda like she was blaming her.
"Yeah, knocking down the building." Konata said chuckling. "Where's the others at?" She asked.
"A little way down." Hiyori told them. "Come on, I'll site you." She said warmly.
A few moments of walking later.
They crew made it to the campout site. "Okay... welcome to casa de... whatever." Hiyori said enthusiastically while Kagami, Patty and Misao all took a moment to sit down or lay in the first comfortable patch of ground.
Minami unintentionally let one of her mean comments come out. "I can't believe it, but there actually is a place to sleep that's worst than Miyuki's mom's basement." She said without much expression.
Yutaka agreed by nodding her head.
"Well, it was the best place we could find." Hiyori said.
Konata observed some of the rooms features. "We're in an old bakery." Konata noted. "Maybe we can finally feed Kagami the food she always loved." She said patronising Kagami. She replied by throwing a piece of light wood at her. She just wanted a break.
Hiyori smiled. "But at least there was a comic book store next door." She said showing where she was resting, it had several crumpled up papers, 2 papers with some detailed drawings on it (likely Minami and Yutaka), a couple of unused blank paper, 6 or 7 issues of The Amazing Spider-Man and 4 pencils.
"You raided the comic book store?" Konata asked. Hiyori nodded. "Any good manga?" Konata asked very seriously.
"It was all gone by time I got there." Hiyori told her.
"Damn." Konata grunted. She sat down next to what used to be the front desk. "Can I see one of those Spider-Man comics." Hiyori wasted no time handing her one. She opened it up and found she was in the jackpot; it was in Japanese, most of the pages were still in tact and it had Deadpool in this issue... Okay that would excite me, but anyway. Konata opened to a random page, she really didn't care, she was looking of the merc with the mouth, luckily she found a page with him in it.
The first thing she noticed was the text on the page. Deadpool was yelling some gibberish at Spidey. Spider-Man and Deadpool were following one of the X-Men villains, which seemed a little strange at first, but then again, the only reason Konata ever even read some Spider-Man was the Attack on Titan crossover with Marvel. Deadpool jumped onto Magneto's chest and teleported him to another place. At first Spidey was mad that Deadpool once again just took off, but that was ended when one of Magneto's henchman came in with a gun pointed at Spidey and said to him.
"Hands where I can see them." Came a low voice from behind her. At first, Konata didn't know what that was or why it happened, but someone was for real holding her at gunpoint. She turned her head slowly and found a dude at least 6'5'', 300 something pounds of pure muscle.
"Oh shit!" She said to herself attempting to get to her feet but was soon knocked down by the 6'5'' on top of her. Kagami and the others noticed the uninvited guest standing I top off Konata and she sprung to her feet. Most of the other girls who weren't asleep, jumped up to help the comrade in need. As they too joined the fight, from the windows came 3 other guys with rifles out, and if that weren't bad enough, 2 more guys came from the backdoor and within seconds they were surrounded. Konata realized too late what had just happened, they were ambushed by some bad crew guys.
"Keep your hands where I can see them!" He said kicking Konata away and into the center of the room with the rest of the ghosts. The low pitched voice coming from the guy in front of Konata sounded like Michael Clarke Duncan.
Konata was going to protest when Kagami butted in. "Why should we?" Without hesitation, one of the guys from the windows shot a round so close the her head that she heard the bullet nearly touch her head. Everyone was legitimately panicked, except for maybe Tsukasa, who was asleep on the floor. Though she was still asleep, the other two who were, found themselves in a bit of a predicament involving being held at gunpoint.
At first, everything seemed tense. At any given moment, one of more of the ghosts could wind up dead. Then a voice came from one of the intruders, a female voice. "Alright, which one of these idiots broke into our store?" She asked. Strangely the voice seemed very familiar.
Konata turned her head ever so slowly to see who was speaking to them like this. She saw a woman wearing a riot mask over her head and a police standard issue vest and equipment meant for dealing with riots. There was a name written on the name tape, but at the moment she could quite see what it said.
"What about you redhead." She said to Yutaka... how do I know that, because I'm the writer and who else in the team has red hair?
Yutaka tensed up. "Wha-wha-what?" She panicked. Konata wanted to do something but realized that there wasn't much to be done, earlier she had Minami, Yutaka and Patty as a distraction, but this time they were all in the same room as each other.
"Yeah you strawberry shortcake." Now she's making short jokes. Minami was close to shooting her as was Konata and Kagami, but none of them had a gun on them. But Konata did, her M9 was still holstered on her vest. "I bet you lead this bandit team into my little bakery." She accused. Why would she assume Yutaka was the leader? Konata thought to herself.
"Please I don't want trouble." Yutaka said so scared. "I just want to go home." She pleaded.
"Go home to where?" She interrogated.
Yutaka, almost on the verge of tears. "Somewhere safe." Konata knew she had to step in at some point.
"You know Yutaka, I've waited a long time to say this to you." She told her.
Konata was a little shocked that she knew her name. She immediately started thinking of ways to help, most of the involved shooting her way out, but nothing she could come up with in the next 10 to 15 seconds would work under any most circumstances. Konata was about to make her move, as was Minami, when the most random thing happened, she went up and... hugged her? Konata was more than just confused, as was anyone else fully conscience was.
"Holy crap I missed you little sis!" She said picking her up. Yutaka almost immediately understood the situation, but nobody else seemed to.
"Yui!" Yutaka said flinging her arms around her. The two cheered for each other like idiots and ask anyone could really do was stand there gawking at the stupidity of it.
"Holy crap. Hey guys, let these girls go." She told her crew. At first the order went right in one ear and out the other. They didn't know what just happened, Hell nobody really did. "Guys, drop the guns." Konata only now was actually catching on, no wonder she sounded familiar and why she isn't killing them right now, she spent years in the same house and have seen each other a lot. Yui Narumi.
"Oh I Get it now." Konata said no longer panicking. "Why don't you take off that mask Yui-nee-san." Konata said to her. At first none of the ghosts understood what was going on until Kagami caught on.
"Oh I Get it." She said to herself.
Yui took the riot helmet off. Her hair grew quite long since the last time anyone saw her, slightly longer than shoulder length. Still the same old glasses though. "Sorry if I scared you guys there." She said to them in a patronising manner. "I just missed scaring the crap outta Yutaka."
"Yui, what the Hell?" One of the guys in the rum said.
"Chill jean. I knew these girls." She told him. "You guys are welcome to come with us if you want." She told them. Konata didn't really know how to respond to that one.
"Uh..." Most everyone else in the room was processing this, Ayano was still in shock, Minami looked like she was nothing more than relieved. "Kay." Konata said to her cousin. "To where?" She asked.
"Back to our camp." Yui told her.
Tsukasa was just now waking up from her attempt at sleep, and she just missed a not so epic showdown with less than likely death. She sat up amongst the others. "What the Hell is going on?" She asked quietly rubbing her eyes.
Konata wondered to herself what else Tsukasa was capable of sleeping through. A nuclear bomb, probably slept through the ODIN strikes too.
Tokyo, Japan. 2 years ago.
Welcome to a long lost city known as Tokyo. Well, it's not lost and for the most part, mostly new, but ODIN made sure it was not much of a city anymore. The surrounding areas were all devoid of any form of life and what buildings were her, were nothing more than the hollow shells of their former selves, quite literally. What once was the land of the rising Sun was now also, like most of the world now, no-man's-land. Giant craters the size of football stadiums turned most of the urban side of this place into a parking lot.
Sojiro was determined, however, to get little Konata out of here, first he had to find her of course. No-man's-land was nothing more than rubble and bullet casings with some fire here and there. Really a post-apocalyptic sight to see. Konata was bound to turn up eventually.
"Let's see, her last known location was somewhere around..." he said to himself trying to read a map and drive a HUMVEE at the same time. "Here." He said looking up.
(Now I'm about to sneak a 'don't text and drive' message into the story.)
He was paying so little attention to the road that he unintentionally crashed the jeep into a slab of concrete. He impact was bad, but it could have been worse had it not been for seatbelts.
"Damnit." He said to himself. He opened the door of the armored vehicle and got out. "Alright, now to find Konata." He said to himself. He looked up to the sky and saw some F18's flying over head, probably not one of theirs. He needs to move, another wave of US guys could be here in a moment. "Konata." He said walking into the first knocked down building. "Konata." He still had no clue where to actually look. He stepped on some rubble that crumbled at his feet.
He pushed over a piece of floor that was now the wall and looked around some more. He continued down the path of destruction and figured he'd have to find some sign of her eventually. He was hoping that anyway. After a few moments of searching through the first building, he gave up and went to the next one across the street. He hurried across the rubble, crushed cars, and scorch marks of rockets and fires and what not. Until he reached the crumbled ruins of the next building. He looked around at the floor of the front room, MG turrents were at one point mounted here.
He continued down to the back of the room and opened the first door he saw and found more rubble. "Damnit. Am I ever going to find her?" He complained to himself. He kicked a few rocks around and finally decided to make his way up the former office building.
It was a lot easier to climb the floors when they were all on a horizontal plane and about 12 feet long. After a few floors, or rather seconds if ground considered at one point a floor, he started to notice some stuff lying around on the floor, Sniper Rifles and some revolution bodies. He knew he was getting close.
"Konata?" He said to no one. He saw a body lying on the floor next to a window, a body he recognized, luckily, not Konata. He got closer to her though. "Nanako." He said to her body. He slowly closed her eyes. "Rest well old friend." He said to her. He stood up really concerned now. "Konata!" He called out. No response. He then looked at a trail of blood from where she was laying. "Of shit." He said to himself again. He followed it until he reached where the rooftop once was and he saw her, lying next to a flaming ruins of a helicopter. "Konata!" He said rushing over to her side grabbing and holding her as gently as you would a kitten. "Konata, Konata can you hear me?"
Konata's head turned slowly. "D-d-dad?" She said weakly.
"It's alright Konata. I'm here." He said hugging her. "I'm here now." Sojiro was relieved to have found Konata alive and well... okay, alive. He quickly inspected her body for anything missing. Upon first inspection, just some bruises and cuts. Without taking an xray or doing a full medical exam, Konata was okay. All her limbs were intact and she was breathing with a steady heart rate, albeit it was a slow one. "Konata I need you to tell me, are you hurt anywhere?" Kinda stupid a question to ask, but stupid people do panicked things. Konata slowly turned her head back towards the ground and passed out. "Konata?" Sojiro asked. She must have dozed into unconsciousness. He stood up holding her body. "It's alright, were getting out of here." He said to her. Helicopters passed over head. "We're being out of here."
Tokyo sewers, Japan. Present day.
Earlier Yui said that she and her crew had a hideout somewhere in the underground of Tokyo. Now Konata understood she meant literally, underground. "Wow Yui, you lead us into a dump."
Kagami replied to Konata's statement. "Yeah, smells like a sewer in here."
Konata sighed. "Leave the stupid puns and jokes to Tsukasa." Kagami slapped Konata.
"Shut up." She told her.
A little more waking later and they finally came upon a small community of people. The ghosts only stood in amazement as they saw the small community of people living here in the sewers, tents, small huts, and campfires set up inside of metal bins with several or so crates. "Alright everyone, welcome to Rapture." Yui told them. "You're welcome to stay for a while." Yui told them. "We got some food if you're hungry over there."
As soon as the word food came from her mouth, Kagami, Tsukasa, Miyuki, and Minami went down towards where Yui was pointing. Konata didn't feel the need to eat as much as everyone else inevitably did and Yutaka was still here so she could continue to speak with Yui, Ayano wasn't moving yet because even she too was still a little bit in shock of seeing this place. Everyone else was just too tired to really care at the moment.
"Hey sis, where's a place where we can talk for a while?" Yutaka asked Yui.
"My tent. Come with me." She told her. Konata was about to follow Yui and Yutaka but then she realized, she honestly wanted to avoid conversion with anyone... besides Kagami and the others, mostly because she had a few people to trust and that was those people.
She turned to the other ghosts. "You guys want to walk around for a bit?" Konata asked.
"Yeah." Hiyori said. She started walking and so did Konata. Ayano and Misao went in their own direction for now. Patty on the other hand was zoning out and realized it a little late and followed Hiyori and Konata.
"So then Hiyori. How goes it with you?" Konata asked.
"Well I woke up and found that the building was falling on top of me. So there's that." She replied.
"Sorry didn't mean to." Konata apologized.
"It's alright." Hiyori said. After a moment or two of walking. "So how was your life?"
That was a topic Konata wanted to avoid. "Uh... eventful." She said hoping to dodge the question. "I have had some less than... preferable events happen in my life." Konata said hoping that was as far as it would go.
"Like what?" Hiyori asked.
Damnit. Konata thought to herself. "What about you?" She asked the girl with glasses.
"Me... Well I get stabbed a lot, and I think my whole family is dead." Hiyori said.
"Join the club." Konata said in response.
"At least Yui and Yutaka are all alive. Think of it that way." Hiyori attempted to comfort her.
"Yeah, I think it's too late to save some people." Konata said. "A little too late..." She said trailing off.
"Too late for who, your dad?" Hiyori asked carefully.
Konata sighed. "Yeah..." She said feeling a like depressed. For a moment they were just walking in absolute silence. It took a few more before Konata decided to speak up. "You know we've been walking in circles for about a few minutes." Saying to her.
"Yeah, I've noticed that." Hiyori said stopping along side Konata. Patty was paying very little attention to them and wound up running into the two.
"I'm sorry." She apologized.
"It's alright..." Konata said with her mind flowing elsewhere. Just then she felt hungry again. "Anyone else want something to eat?" She asked.
"Didn't your cousin say we can eat something?" Patty said.
"Yeah, come on let's go." Konata said to her.
...
A small sewer village and a notable amount of food stockpiled into some crates, mostly MRE's left by the military, but food nonetheless. The guy handing them the food were handing them out with the order one MRE only. This disappointed Kagami and the others as it had been God knows how long since anyone actually got to eat something, but at least they were eating.
The gang; Kagami, Tsukasa, Miyuki, and Minami, were all gathered around a medium sized wooden crate that acted as a food table for them to eat on and around. The crate read 'US ARMY A113' in green text in the side. Kagami and the others sat on smaller crates that also had text on it '갑옷 피어싱 권총 탄약' which basically translates to armour piercing handgun ammunition, however most the boxes were now filled with various crap.
Kagami was one of the first to dig in to her food, she plowed through her food without much hesitation, Tsukasa ate hers rather slowly, Miyuki was more or less playing with it... for some fucking reason, playing with it seemed like an excellent idea, Minami was eating it and savoring every bite of the food.
Kagami was the first to start feeling slightly bored with just sitting around. "Hey Miyuki, why you just playing with it like that?" Kagami asked Miyuki.
She was a little lost in thought. Kagami snapped her back into reality. "Huh? What?"
"Are you alright Miyuki?" Kagami asked her.
"Oh, yeah I'm fine." Miyuki said still unintentionally playing with her food. "I was just thinking..." She said trying not to pursue a conversation.
"Like what?" Kagami asked.
"Uhh. Nothing really..." Miyuki said.
Minami caught on quickly. "Yuki?"
"Yeah." She replied.
"He's fine Miyuki. There's no need to worry about him." Minami told her.
"Maybe..." Miyuki said to herself sadly. "I just hope mom can take good care of him without me there." She told herself.
Kagami was merely sitting back and waiting to see how this conversation would turn out. The real reason she had no real intention of jumping in yet was that they were talking about Miyuki's kid, she had no clue if getting involved in the conversation was a good idea, likely not. She observed Miyuki, she had that look of someone who didn't want to be bothered but at the same time it was the exact opposite of not wanting to be bothered, she also had the look of someone who needed someone to talk to. Kinda confusing.
"Hey Miyuki." Kagami decided to further a conversation. "You said your kid's name was Yuki, like you?"
Miyuki had again zoned out a bit then replied to Kagami's question. "Hmm. Oh, yes, Yukiteru. He's only 2, but I hope someday he'll grow up to be stronger than even I." Miyuki had a Hell of a way with words, the way she said that would have sent Konata's moe senses off the charts.
Kagami had a few more questions about Yuki but she felt like there would have been a better time to ask them. "Right. I think I'll go find Konata, make sure she isn't shooting Womp Rats or something." Kagami said in a joking kinda manner getting up away from the small chairs she sat on. She walked on by to go look for Konata.
Tsukasa was still busy eating her food when she decided to have her voice heard. "I think Kona-chan could use some help too." Tsukasa said to herself. She had no intention of getting up yet, she was still eating, but soon enough she too would follow after Kagami which just left Minami and Miyuki left at the table... err, crate.
"Maybe we should find something to do ourselves Miyuki." Minami said trying to get her attention.
"Yes, I suppose we should." She said actually eating the last of her food.
...
Konata had managed to snag a sandwich, not just any sandwich though, a sandwich with bacon. A Turkey, Cheese, Bacon and Mayo sub that was vacuum sealed in a bag and Konata was enjoying every bite of it. Patty was eating quite possibly the most American thing an American could eat, a corn dog that likely had bacon in it. Hiyori was eating a simple PBJ sandwich with grape jelly.
Konata came upon a tent that had Type 07 PLA urban camo texture on the outside, likely left by the Chinese when the war ended. Konata figured it was Yui and Yutaka based on the voices she heard coming from it. Konata felt a little curious as to what the two could be talking about, most likely about the events that occurred over the past few weeks. She felt like talking to her last remaining family alone. "Hey Patty, Hiyori, I'm going to go talk to Yui and Yutaka. See you guys around."
Hiyori sighed a little. "Alright, fine. See ya. Let's go Patty" She told her.
Konata then returned her attention to her cousins in the tent. She unzipped the front and basically disregarded all manners and just let herself in. She walked in to find the two simply talking like normal, nothing out out the ordinary except they obviously haven't noticed Konata yet. She decided to sit down on what she presumed to be a chair but was actually a small coffee table, at least nothing was on it like a switchblade or a piece of st ray metal, Hiyori told Konata earlier when she was getting a sandwich that she apparently was so busy looking for her favorite doujin writing pencil she unintentionally sat on a open switch blade... why a switch blade would left open on a chair i will never know.
She sat back and watched to see how long it would take for the two to actually notice her. She decided to listen to their conversation, seems rude but what Hell else are you going to do 6 feet away from someone. The conversation so far sounds like something regarding a person, Yui was the middle of talking when she decided to listen in.
"...I just don't think Maverick is that stupid."
"I'm sure he's fine Yui, he fell off a building but i think he's fine."
"Don't be sarcastic. Mom never liked you being sarcastic, you always found the worst things to be funny sometimes."
"I didn't say him falling through a few floors of concrete was funny, I just said he's probably fine. If he was able to survive Korea, then he's bound to have survived that fall."
"I just wish he would stop trying to be a hero, this is like the third time he's left the team and nearly gotten himself killed."
"Maybe he thought he found something."
"Like a group of Revolution following us around, not likely."
Konata's interest was fully peaked by Yui's last statement for one main reason, a seemingly rogue team of Revolution soldiers had jumped them in the titan and if this Maverick guy had known something about him, then it was good enough for her to want to know what she knew.
"Yui, maybe you should believe him."
"Why?"
"Because remember the building we knocked down, the Titan. In there we found a rogue team of Revolution, they attacked Konata for something called a Prototype."
"You don't think that Konata-"
Yui was cut off by the sounds of another person attempting to get in. Minami walked in, quite in a obnoxious kinda way. "Yutaka." She said.
"Hey Minami." Yutaka said her.
"Have You Ever tried knocking." Yui said sarcastically still completely oblivious to the otaku, Konata, still in the room.
"I'm sorry, I just wanted to see where Yutaka was." Minami said. Nobody noticed Miyuki was right behind her also looking for sometime to talk to.
"It's alright. Sit down, I think we'll have a great time." Yui told her gesturing to sit down next to Yutaka. It was then that she noticed the blue haired oddity in the room. "Holy crap Konata, when did you here?"
"Took long enough to notice." Konata observed. Yui and Yutaka both seemed a little aggravated that she was here, why?
"What exactly did you see?" Yui asked.
"You two talking about a Maverick or something." Konata said.
At first Yui looked deeply into her eyes as if she would kill her if she were lying to her. Then she realized she wasn't lying. "Okay then." Yui said her. "Then why you join us then." She said to her. Konata moved in a little closer. "So what brings you to my tent?" Yui asked.
"Was bored, figured his would something better do than just sitting around with Hiyori and Patty."
"The Doujin girl and the American huh?" Yui said. She then looked at Yutaka. "Those are the right ones, right?" Yutaka nodded. "Good, now, is there anything you want to know as background before you inevitably leave from boredom."
At least Yui knew she would. "What's the deal with being down here in the sewers?" Konata asked.
Yui sighed. "Okay. Now i got to tell this story again." Yui sighed. "Well out all started a few months after ODIN impacted. We; my husband and several other officers and city councilman were all hiding together in a old hospital. That for overrun by the Cornalles a few weeks later. We began to run from them. All across Saitama was nothing but The Lost, The Los Cornalles-"
"There's no the, Los is Spanish for the, It's the just Los Cornalles." Miyuki interrupted. Figured the only girl smart enough to defuse a Nuclear Warhead at the age of 4 would know some Spanish.
"Right..." Yui said. "Anyway, Cornalles, Deckers, Rollerz, you name 'em, they were looking us. We found a place in Shizouka, it had about a hundred people or living in fear hiding in basements. Long story short, we managed to establish a perimeter around a high school and formed a bit of a community. It ask downhill when The Lost came in a wiped out our little village, most of us made it, others, like our old town mayor, killed. We retreated to a university outside of the city we were in."
"Yeah, what's so exceptional about this story?" Konata asked obnoxiously.
"It always happened." Yutaka said. She had heard the story before Konata when she here alone with Yui.
"Several of our leaders later and I'm here. I more or less took the position of Rapture mayor after Kiyotaka died in a random explosion at Tokyo University." She said referencing to now dead husband. "I figured all our problems came from being above ground so i decided move us down under into the sewers and founded Rapture where the last 40 or so of us have been hiding." She explained.
"Wonderful idea Yui... if people messing your shit everyday on land was bad, now you have to deal with Rats eating your food and getting real sick." Konata said sarcastically.
Yui groaned. "Like it or not, I've been in command longer than anyone else has." Yui said. "4 months."
"4 months leading these guys?" Konata asked.
"Yup, 4 months, 11 days, 13 hours, 37 minutes and uhh..." Yui, now looking at her watch. "58 seconds. But who's counting?"
Evidently you are. Konata thought herself. "So why are you in this dump?" Konata asked.
"Well, we never could seem to win on the surface, so underground seemed like a good idea at the time." She explained.
Konata was beginning to run out of things to ask her. So she asked the most obvious question. "Hey Yui, what happened to you after the Revolution, dad and i thought you were dead after that IED explosion." Konata asked. "I heard Yutaka spent the whole night crying when she heard you bit the dust."
Yui looked a little surprised at first, but then figured it was a valid enough question. "Well, after the IED went off, I spent a few days in critical condition in the ICU. Of course after the ODIN rods fell, I figured I was good enough shape to leave." She explained.
She was going to explain more when someone new joined the conversation. This time it was a male that no one knew at moment. A tall individual with short brown, black camo uniform with an American flag patch in his arm and a tactical vest with a name written on the name tape. 'Richards.'
"Yui, who the Hell are these kids?" He asked with a tired low pitched voice.
"Maverick, I see you made out alive." Yui said her.
"Thanks, now who are these idiots?" He asked.
"A better question is, why did run off?" Yui asked him.
"Why you think. I told you before, something doesn't seem right with the fact that every time we set up a base for longer than a few weeks and try to rebuild something comes in and ruins it." He said to her.
"It's just a coincidence."
"I don't think so, explain the Revolution crew I saw a few hours ago."
"I'm certain there's a rational decision for this other than someone is out to get us." Yui tried to talk some sense into him.
Maverick quickly lost interest in Yui and took note of Minami. They both instantly recognized each other. "Oh wonderful, you." He said her.
"You tried to kill us." Minami said.
"No that wasn't trying, if i had been trying, you'd be dead. By the way I have my machete back now." Maverick said holding his hand out.
Minami simply backed up closer Yutaka. "No.
"Come on Iwazaki. That ain't a toy." He said her.
Within seconds Minami freaked out and reached for her shotgun and readied it. Everyone in the tent freaking out putting their hands up in panic except Maverick. "How do know name." Minami asked.
"Same reason I know Miyuki and Yui." Maverick told her.
Miyuki also panicked a little more. "Why do you know me?" She said shocked.
"Relax and give me a moment Yui explain myself Iwazaki." He tried to get Minami lower her weapon. Slowly she did. "I knew both of your fathers back in the day. I knew Ryouhei and I knew Hideyoshi. We were all apart of the UN's Special Forces." He explained.
Minami was not sure if she could buy it, but he did manage to guess the name of not only her father but also Miyuki's, Hideyoshi Takara and Ryouhei Iwazaki were both long since been dead however. Minami began to slowly take in what said. Konata had just been sitting idly for a few minutes now and asked Maverick a question.
"What do you think the Revolution are trying to do?" Konata asked.
Maverick smiled. "So there are people who believe me?" He said. "I think they're after a secret military prototype for their own purposes. A few weeks ago a plane crashed somewhere outside Saitama and a few weeks before that, we intercepted a radio transmission about a device of some sort being transported to Yamaha Air Base to the east of us." Maverick explained. "I originally left the team to go look for the damn thing. Found these girls instead."
"Yeah, that happens sometimes I suppose." Konata said.
"So do you believe me?" He asked.
Konata was about to explain about what she was doing bit then Yui interrupted her before could even open her mouth. "Maverick, enough with forcing your conspiracy theories down someone else's throat."
"Sorry Yui. I just don't give a Fuck." Maverick said. Right as he said that screams coming from the outside were loud and fast. Simmering was going down.
"What the Hell?" Konata said.
"Konata, take you friends and leave." Yui told her getting her rifle of floor. Konata didn't know what to say. "Go now, get out of here before something bad happens." Yui commanded Konata. Miyuki, Minami and Yutaka took off running first chance they got. Konata just stood there.
"But-"
"Go Konata!" She told her. Konata wasted no time making a break for the exit. She got outside and found the whole area of the sewers were filling up with some form of gas. Konata unintentionally ran into Kagami.
"Kagami?"
"Konata, what the is going on?" Kagami asked.
"I don't know, we gotta get out here." Konata said to her.
"I know a way out." Kagami said.
"Then let's go." Konata said in response.
The two them went out to where they would inevitably be exit away from the gas that was filling the room. There she found Ayano and Misao already waiting for them. "Minami and others have already left." Ayano explained.
"What about my sister?" Kagami asked.
"With Minami." Ayano explained.
"Okay. Come on Konata." Kagami yelled at Kagami. She was about to follow her out until she heard gunfire coming from the direction of Yui. Now something bad was happening. "Konata?" Kagami asked.
Konata stood there watching the muzzle flash of rifles chiming from Yui's direction. She drew her M9 and cocked it. "Kagami you on ahead, I'm going go save some family." She said running off back to Yui.
"Konata wait! Damnit!" Kagami growled taking her rifle. "Konata wait up." She said chasing after her.
