Now that they were certain that the vampires knew about me Jack, Hiccup and Merida never let me out of their sight. Because of what happened I was excused from classes that week which meant I was to spend every free moment training. This is waht I did on Sunday with Merida because they boys had to work. It was actually pretty good she's a good teacher and it turned out we have a lot in common. She didn't really tell people this but she loved Shakespeare, Romeo and Juliet was her favourite. Not because of the romance but because of how Juliet went against her parents and followed her heart when she married Romeo. Teenage rebellion Shakespeare style she calls it. She also confessed that she would be lost without Jack and Hiccup but if I repeated that the vampires would be the least of my problems. We quickly became great friends.

The real trouble began on Monday. It was exactly eight years since my mother disappeared. I didn't know if I should say anything to others, I wasn't sure if they knew or not. I went into the kitchen to find Hiccup making pancakes; I couldn't see Jack or Merida so I guess they were at school or work.

"Hey looks like it's just you and me today". He said with a smile as he passed me plate with pancakes and strawberries, I smiled at him.

"That sounds fun". I said as I began to eat.

"Instead of hand to hand combat I'm going to show you how to use some of our weapons is that ok? Because hand to hand is more Jack and Merida's department"

"That sounds fun". I said sadly.

"Are you ok? I mean I get it this time last week you thought all this was the kind of stuff you find in fiction, but you doing great and we'll have you back on Friday night".

"No it's not that... Well it kind of is but that's not the reason I'm upset".

"Then what is. You don't have to tell me you know but if you do I've been told I'm a good listener".

"Today is the anniversary of my mom's disappearance". I explained as I tried and failed to hold back the tears.

"Oh man come here I had no idea I'm sorry". He said as he hugged me, which I gladly excepted not bother with the fact that I've only really known him a few days, but apparently I did for two years so it's ok.

"My mom's in prison". Hiccup said out of nowhere. I pulled away and looked at him to make sure he was serious.

"Really?" I asked, still not believing him a hundred percent.

"Drug dealing, she was sent there when I was twelfth. When I was fifteen my Aunt Ellie, whose Merida's mom and who adopted me and Jack after our dads died but I'm sure Merida told you that part".

I nodded and gestured for him to go on.

"Anyway she said that she had done it in high school, she had also gone to prison a few times before she met my dad .When she met with some friends from school they got her back on the stuff. I don't know what she took but it landed her in prison for the next twenty years so it must have been bad. She wrote a few times but I never wrote back after a while she stopped and I never visited her. My dad never got a chance to tell her about the family business. They had been divorced for about six years and my dad won custody of me because of her dodgy past".

"Why are you telling me this?" I asked him as I went back to my food.

"Because I want you to know that you can trust me and because I've never told anyone that before".

"You never told Jack or Merida?" I asked in disbelief, I mean how could they not know? .

"They don't know she wrote to me, I still have all her letters in a shoe box under my bed you know".

"What do they say".

"Just that she's sorry she won't be there to see me grow up and that she loves me. She never says anything about my dad. What bothers me most is that she never says that she's sorry for taking the drugs in the first place. She says sorry for everything else, not seeing me grow up, not being able to take my picture at Prom with my date, teaching me to drive, seeing my room empty when I go off to college, She says she's sorry she can't see all that but she never once said sorry for taking the drugs".

"I'm sure she is, maybe she didn't think you wouldn't believe her". I suggested.

"Maybe, can I ask what happened to your dad?"

"That's a long storey". I confessed hoping he would leave it at that.

"We have time and I told you my long storey". He said with a cocky grin which I assumed he picked up from Jack.

"My mom told me that he left the day after she told him she was pregnant. What happened was she told him and he was so happy, he grabbed her and swung her around and kissed her with all his might. He said he couldn't wait and he hoped I was a girl. My parents weren't married by the way. Anyway my mom was so happy because she was afraid he would leave her. The next day he went out. He said he wanted to stock up on food for when the weird cravings kicked in, she never saw him again. At first she thought something bad had happened but later she discovered his pass port was missing and he had emptied his bank account. My father had left her with no one that's why I have my mother's last name not my father's". I confessed. I had never told anyone that, not even Astrid knew the details.

"What was his name?".

"Tyler, Kevin Tyler".

"Well Rapunzel Rose sounds nicer then Rapunzel Tyler". He said with a smile.

"Thanks".

We finished eating and got dressed. Hiccup said to wear something lose and comfortable, so I word my white track suite bottoms and a bright pink vest. Hiccup wore baggy brown trousers and a dark green shirt. He took me down to the basement and pulled out a human shaped targets.

"If anyone asks, which they don't we say Merida uses them for actuary which she does so it's not a lie". He explained as he moved a training mat out of the way. When it was completely out of the way I saw there was a trap door under it.

"And this is where we keep my babies".

"Your babies, that weird don't you think?"

"Hey, everyone has something they love mine is the weapons I actually designed and made most of them".

"Really?"

"Oh yes and this one is what you're going to learn to use, we don't have time to teach you how to use all of them so you can have this one". He passed me a small gun that had two bright red capital Bs on the handle.

"What does BB stand for?" I asked him as I looked at it, if Hiccup really did build this thing he was better than people said.

"Blood Busters, that's what our parents called themselves when they hunted". He explained as he pulled out another weapon similar to the one he gave me and replaced the training mat over the closed trap door.

"Blood Busters, really?" I asked, not knowing if he was kidding or not.

"Hey in their defence it was the seventies almost the eighties that kind of thing was cool, I think".

"So is that what you guys call you selves?"

"No, we don't have a name yet" was all he said before he went and drew three large red dots on the target. One in the middle of the head, one on the crest right where the heart would be and one in the centre of the throat.

"Ok those are the three points that you need to hit if you want to kill a vampire. The head, crest and throat. If you shoot them there they can't regenerate and they crumble to dust".

"Never knew about the throat being a weak point". I said surprised.

"Ok before we start you need to know when you got out on patrol and you need to shoot a vampire you don't hesitate, you don't stop and think about it. True, there are some vampires that life of animals and are peaceful if they are and they see you're a hunter they will leave you alone. But if a vampire that lives off human sees you're a hunter they will attack and that is when you shoot. Is that clear?". He asked staring me down. I could see he took this very seriously.

"Crystal". I replied.

"Perfect "He said before turning around and shooting the target in the tree weak points he drew. To my surprise the gun made no sound, only a quite clicking sound as each bullet flew throw the air to its target. I suppose it was to prevent any unwanted attention.

"Lesson number one". He said smiling at me and all I could do was smile back.
