Book One: Fire Chapter Eleven ~A New Beggining~

Kailì was a person of faith and goodwill. He always believed that the Avatar would return to the world, even if it had been one hundred years. The young man also believed that his new friend, the High Priestess, had some type of power within her. Whether it be bending, spiritual or downright love, he trusted that she was a good person.

How in the hell she got mixed up with the jerk tied beside him was beyond his comprehension.

"You know, I can't believe Daiyu considers you to be her best friend. Either she's just to nice for her own good or she didn't have anyone else to talk to during her years in the palace, I do not know. But you are unbelievable!" Kailì growled at the banished prince who in return rolled his eyes and snarled.

"I just love how a peasent talks to me like he knows who I am. How Daiyu deals with you, that is something I want to know."

"She doesn't think of me as a peasent. In her eyes we're equals. Hell, she even saved my life from Fire Nation murderers like you. Tell me have you ever saved a life? Or do you just take them?"

Zuko growled dangerously low and the two turned to the boy who barked with bitter laughter. It was the water tribe boy that had lamely fought Zuko when this mess started.

"Oh man, Kailì! That was a good one. I got to remember that one."

"Sokka!" The girl, Katara, scolded, her voice taking a playful tone. Sokka laughed harder with the saddened irony and Kailì shook his head with a small smile. He didn't know what he said was funny. What made them stop was the big burst of light.

"Men! Ready yourselves to fire! Zhao commanded and Kailì gulped.

'Any ideas, Daichi?'

'Not a clue.'

And when the doors opened, all spirits broke loose.

The sages shot plumes of fire at who everyone expected was Aang and Daiyu. Despite his better judgement, Zuko roared for her to get away, knowing he was to late. Kailì cursed loudly and prayed for a miracle. His wish came true. Because when the fire disspersed, there wasn't Avatar Aang and Priestess Daiyu. There standing before them was Avatar Roku and Priestess Qiuyue.

They nodded at each other and jumped in the air, landing in a swift and fluid motion, arms outstretched towards the guards. Blowing them away, the two firebending masters began to destroy the temple, the fire melting the chains that bound the group of teens. Zuko, torn between staying to confront Daiyu and capture the Avatar, knew it was too risky and took off, jumping out the window to only hope she was okay. What he would tell his uncle, he did not know.

Back inside the melting temple, Kailì caught Daiyu, who was hosting Priestess Qiuyue's spirit. Just as Aang hosted Roku's. Daiyu groaned and looked up at her friend. She then smiled weakly.

"Do you think I made the Fire Lord mad?"

Kailì chuckled and picked her up bridal style while nodding. Saying that she could stand, he gently placed her on her feet and she grinned.

"Good! That's my main goal in life at the moment."

Aang looked around, directing everyone to the window. Almost at the same time Daiyu and Aang called on their respective animal buddies. The group jumped and landed, getting away in just a knick of time.

Daichi flew next to Appa for a while, the teens just wanting to relish in fresh air. Finally, Daiyu sighed and snuggled close to Daichi in contentment. Daichi turned so that they were still on Appa's side, just facing in a diffrent direction. That's when the Avatar's group noticed.

"YOUR RIDING A DRAGON?!" They cried and Daiyu and Kailì errupted into laughter. Daichi chuckled, knowing the sardonic irony of it all.

Sokka just stared, a little terrified at the thought that he was a few feet away from a dragon in the air. Not to forget, the girl who seemed to own the dragon was the same one who attacked his village! One day he would wake up from this twisted dream and tell his Gran-Gran that he thought the cold was finally getting to him.

"It's okay! Daichi would never hurt you."

'Unless they hurt you, Little One.'

Daiyu smiled warmly and stroked Daichi's back.

"Right. Unless they hurt me."

Kailì chuckled and looked around at the diffrent faces.

"Oh! I think introductions are in order. We might have gotten off on the wrong foot since I uh... helped Zuky attack your village, but it was pure buisness! Nothing against water tribal people!" Daiyu rambled and Aang face palmed with a sad smile.

"Relax! We're not gonna do anything." Katara giggled and Daiyu smiled shyly.

"R-right. My name's Daiyu. I'm Aang's big sister in a way. And this is Kailì."

Kailì waved and everyone loosened up. Daichi growled deep and Daiyu laughed.

"Oh, sorry!" Was she talking to the dragon?! Appearently so because she gave a closed eyed smile and gestured to the purple dragon. "...And this big fellow is Daichi." Katara bowed the best way she could from sitting on Appa.

"It's nice to meet all of you. I'm Katara and this is my idiotic brother Sokka. Be warned: He has no brains!"

The girls laughed at Sokka's struggle of thought computing and Aang chuckled with Kailì.

"Thanks for helping me, you two. It means a lot. Really." Aang thanked and Kailì and Daiyu nodded.

"So…what happens now Aang?" Daiyu asked and Aang knew what she was implying.

Was he going to force her to help him with this comet issue? Aang looked up at the sky and sighed. "Well the new plan is the old plan. Avatar Roku says I need to learn the elements by summers end. So Katara and I are going to continue to the North Pole like we always planned to master water bending. That's a start at least. What about you?"

Daiyu ignored the question because she looked at Katara with diffrent eyes.

"Your a waterbender! Maybe you can teach Kailì some new things. He's been wanting to learn for a long time!"

Kailì tried pathetically to shush his friend but she evaded his hands quite easily. Katara looked at Kailì and smiled. Aang did as well. "You could always come to the North Pole with us! We have plenty of room on Appa." Aang, the overly happy camper, cheered. But this time Daiyu was with him.

"That's a great idea! You could go and learn water bending and when we take you back home, those Fire Nation soldiers wouldn't be looking to recruit you anymore! It's perfect! They'd think you'd be long gone!" Daiyu yelled excitedly and Kailì looked around. Anyone could tell he wanted to go, but he didn't want to leave the one who saved him.

"Are you sure?" He asked holding her hand and Daiyu nodded.

"Don't worry, Daichi will protect me. Besides, Im heading back into the Fire Nation to start searching for firebending scrolls now that I'm a bender. Dont ask, I'll explain later." She said quickly and Kaili frowned. "You have fun, okay?" Daiyu then kissed Kailì on the cheek and he smiled softly. Aang smiled too. He knew his kind big sister was still there somewhere.

"Okay." Kailì hugged Daiyu and thanked her and told Daichi to try that weird telepathy stuff whenever he felt like it. With the help of Aang and Sokka, Kailì boarded Appa, and the gang was off. Daiyu kept waving untill they were a dot in the horizon.

Scanning the area, she watched Avatar Roku's temple collapse from the heat. Rubbing Daichi's back, she asked if he was ready to journey off and he groaned his agreement. Looking down towards the ocean, she saw Zuko's ship and she saw two figures standing on the deck. Winking and waving at the two, her and Daichi were off towards the royal library of the Fire Nation.

Zuko saw Daiyu smile and wink at him goodbye with his telescope. He couldn't believe his friend was on a dragon!

Iroh watched the beast and his child fly away with a chuckle. What she did today, according to Zuko, was against everything she wanted. But for a moment she forgot about herself and did what she was suppose to do. Help the Avatar. Now if she will continue to do good, that was a diffrent bargain all together.

Although, he was sure she would find her way.
