Chapter 11: The Two Kitsunes

Meanwhile, back in the forest, Shadow just woke up from a dream. The kitsune looked around and growled. The dream was Sonic dying from her energy being drained. He felt that he should head back to the base.

"Amy," he said. "I have to check on something but I'll be back. Can you take care of yourself?"

Amy nodded. The male kitsune smiled and ran off. It got to the base an hour later and looked around for the two robots. Where are they? he thought. It looked around and finally saw them. Eclipse looked at the kitsune; he didn't expect it to return.

"S...Shadow. What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be with your mate?" The Black Arms robot asked.

"I am here for Sonic," he said.

"The spirit is currently resting in her emerald. She's pretty pissed off at you."

"I would imagine so," he said. "But out of speculation, I'm taking her with me."

"Why?" Eclipse asked. "Have you forgotten our plan?"

"I'm done with the plan."

"Is that so? And why is that?"

"That's none of your business."

Eclipse watched the kitsune take the emerald with it, and looked at Metal Sonic. "Take this," he said, holding a serum out to the robotic hedgehog. "It will turn you into an organic copy of Sonic. You will go spy on the two kistunes."

Metal Sonic nodded and followed the kitsune. He looked at the serum and drank it. In seconds, he could feel himself transform. His metallic shell was shed off and replaced by skin and fur. The wires in his body became internal flesh organs. With his transformation complete, he looked like his counterpart.

Metal Sonic smiled and nodded. "I love it," he told Eclipse. "Is this form permanent?"

"No," he said. "It will only last three hours before it wears off."

The organic hedgehog frowned. "Very well," he said. "I'll be back in three hours. See if you can find a way to make it permanent."

Eclipse nodded, and Metal left. The organic hedgehog looked at himself and decided to come up with a new name. He noticed that his eyes were red with black sclera. He thought that he would go with a name that struck fear in his enemies hearts. Metal chuckled. He would now be called Shard. He left to follow the kitsune. Shard saw it walk back to its den. It licked its mate and lay down. Shard saw the kitsune place the Emerald down next to him.

The kitsune saw the emerald and smiled. "Sonic?" It said.

The spirit appeared to Shadow and smiled. Then she frowned, and began to yell at it. Shadow flinched at the sharpness of her voice.

"How dare you take another mate!" She yelled. Amy whimpered and went outside as Sonic continued to yell at him. "We love each other! Why would you take another lover if you love me also?"

Shadow looked away, ashamed. "I'm sorry," it told Sonic. "I love you, but I love Amy as well...and we're expecting."

Sonic's jaw dropped that Amy was impregnated by Shadow. "What?" She yelled, furious.

"That's what I said," he told her.

The spirit growled at the kitsune. "How could you? Why are you doing this to me, Shadow? Do you love her more now, is that it?"

The kitsune looked away. He couldn't answer without sounding like a fool.

"I'm sorry, Sonic."

Sonic stared at the black kitsune for an explanation. It sighed and told her. "It happened a few weeks ago. I was hunting in this form when I saw her. After that, it just...happened."

The spirit sighed and spoke. "I can't believe you would do this," she said.

"I'm sorry," it told her. "Are we still a couple?"

Sonic sighed as she answered. "You're very lucky that I'm in a forgiving mood," she said. Shadow sighed in relief. "Just don't double cross me again!" she scolded.

The spirit vanished into the emerald and Amy walked back inside the den. She lay down next to her mate and whimpered. Shadow nuzzled her. "She doesn't mind," he told her.

The female kitsune nodded and licked her mate. He licked her back.

"I'm going to give birth soon," she said. "Only a few more days."

He nuzzled his kitsune mate in joy.

"I can't wait to see our kids," Shadow said.

Amy smiled. "What do you think it will be?" she said. "Will it be male or female?"

"Male, most likely. But it depends."

"You're just saying that," she joked.

Shadow chuckled and nuzzled her as well.
