A/N: Sorry for not updating last week, I had band MPAs (and we got straight superiors)! Sorry for updating so late today, the internet was not working earlier.
I would like to give a shout out to A Lone Angel in a Trenchcoat for leaving some amazing reviews! Thank you so much!
Also a big thank you to everyone who has favorited, followed, and reviewed this story. It honestly means the world to me!
Disclaimer: I own none of the characters, places, or quotes. These belong to Eric Kripke and Suzanne Collins.
I took what would probably be my last shower. I was filled with pessimistic thoughts. Winning seemed impossible. I had an ally who was smart and skilled, and I also had skill. But there were other tributes who were skilled, tributes like Michael preparing for this his entire life. When it really comes down to it could I kill someone? Probably, but I wouldn't want to. I'd have to see how far I'd get. I would probably never see Sam again.
I sighed, and turned off the shower. I was now proficient with the shower controls, but that didn't matter anymore. I stepped out, and a blast of drying air hit me. I put on some underwear, and then jumped onto the bed. The blankets were no longer comfortable.
I was watching Sam on our television. He was being chased through a forest by a group - probably the careers. A girl was throwing knives at him, and a guy, Michael, began laughing as Sam tripped over a branch. Then another figure emerged, Jo. She was holding a bloody axe. "No," I whispered. "Sam." All I could do was watch. I couldn't do anything, I wasn't in the games. Sam was trying to get up, but Michael placed a firm foot on him. "Come on Sam. Please." I mumbled. Sam continued to struggle, but couldn't get free of his foot. Jo wiped the blood off her axe, and in one swift motion hurled it at Sammy. A canon went off.
Once awake, I shot straight up sweating and panting. My hands were shaking, and it was hard to control my breathing. I stood up shakily fumbling with my amulet. It gave me something to do. After a couple of minutes, I felt slightly better, and got dressed.
I walked to the dining area, and I was greeted by a very somber atmosphere. Charlie, with her long red hair pulled into a simple ponytail, gave a sad smile at me. She was picking at a bowl of assorted fruits. The stylists were also sitting at the table. Castiel also sat with them.
"Hello, Dean." He greeted.
The avoxes had set up a self-serve buffet line, so I walked up to it. I placed some bacon, eggs, and ham on the plate I took. I sat down next to Castiel. I began eating the food, but today I would not be marveling at the taste.
Something dawned on me. Jo and I didn't have a plan. Today we were going into the games, and we didn't have a plan.
I got up and asked, "Am I able to go visit another tribute?"
Charlie replied, "yes, but I don't see why you-"
"Thanks," I said cutting her off. I walked quickly to the elevator. Once inside, I pressed the 7 button. I was taken smoothly down to where Jo was. Once on her floor, the elevator stalled a little. It eventually opened up to Jo.
"Hi Dean." She said.
"We don't have a plan for today." I said.
"Oh huh you're right."
"How about we try to get what we can out of the Cornucopia. We'll try to stick together. When we're done, one of us will lead the way to go." I suggested.
"That sounds like a plan to me. Also, what will happen if we're the last two left alive?" She asked.
"We split up, and whoever succumbs to nature first?" I proposed.
"Or to an axe in the head." She said jokingly.
That statement reminded me of my dream last night. The image of Sam was still fresh in my mind.
"Oh... oh okay then." I stated.
She smiled and turned away. I rode the elevator back up to my floor.
Once I emerged, I was greeted by Gabriel.
"It's about time to go," he said.
I nodded. Charlie, Bobby, and Castiel were waiting besides Gabriel.
"Thank you," I told Charlie.
"You're welcome," she replied. "Just remember you'll do just fine."
I nodded then thanked Bobby. He just nodded.
I looked over to Castiel. "I think we should go."
"I believe we should go as well." Castiel responded.
"Alright then, let's go." Gabriel said motioning to the elevator. The elevator ascended.
"There is another level above our floor?" Castiel inquired.
"We're just going to the roof." Gabriel answered.
Once we got out of the elevator, we saw a hovercraft. There was no good way to describe it. Castiel and I boarded it. Gabriel instructed us that we would be meeting up with him later. On the hovercraft were all the other tributes. Castiel and I took the seats with the number twelve printed on. As soon as we were seated the hovercraft took flight.
Attendants went around injecting everyone with a needle.
"What is it?" I asked as I held out my arm.
"A tracker." She said injecting it. A drop of blood emerged from the minuscule wound.
It was completely silent. I cast a glance at Jo one or two times, but she was staring intently at the floor.
I didn't know we had landed until a door opened, and the tributes began silently filing out.
I hastily got up, and got off the hovercraft. Castiel and I were ushered into a room away from the other tributes. We were met by Gabriel who handed us two identical uniforms.
"Dean, your amulet is allowed in the games. It's your token." Gabriel told me.
The token is what we get to bring into the games to represent our distict. I hadn't even thought about that. "Okay, thank you," I told him.
I got dressed in a curtained off section. At least we have some privacy. The pants were simple black trousers with six pockets. The shirt was a light gray fabric with a red 12 painted on the back. The outfit also included a light jacket. If you want to stay warm you'll have to build yourself a fire, I thought.
Once fully dressed I emerged.
Gabriel asked, "Is there any last request?"
"Could I get a glass of water?" I asked.
"Sure." He replied. An avox brought out a glass.
"Thank you," I said. I gulped down the liquid.
"Castiel's already gone up. Are you ready?" Gabriel inquired.
"Sure." I quaked.
As I got in the tube to go into the arena I wished that my hands would stop shaking.
A/N: Thank you for reading this chapter! I hope you enjoyed! There should be no problem updating next Sunday. Have a wonderful week!
