Chapter Eleven: Push through it! The Security Pursuit Deck!

Neo-Domino - Security Storage Warehouse

The workday had ended and the employees were beginning to leave, yet one individual was heading deeper into the building. Yet he didn't attract too much attention, dressed in the blue overalls of those in his line of work while carrying a small satchel that contained the tools of his trade. Entering one of the restricted sections, made possible by a pass card that stated his name as Taro Daimon, an electrical engineer who had the necessary clearance, he checked to make sure he was alone, before entering one of the storage rooms, where Yusei waited.

Neo-Domino - Daimon Island

The Night Before

"This. This is unreal." Saiga moaned while slumped in his seat, struggling to digest the story that Yusei had spent the last half-hour giving him.

"It's real, and now you know the whole story." Yusei stated, looking out the window to where the Duel Stadium resided.

"For this to be true, that would mean that, Jack Atlus…" Saiga began, finding difficulty getting the words out.

"…that he was born in the Satellite? Yes, he was." Yusei finished the question for him before confirming it.

"There's no way they wouldn't know about it. There's simply no way."

"That's what I've suspected for some time now. Which means he's getting protection from high up that ladder, most likely the top of it."

"Godwin?" Saiga asked, though he already had an idea as to the answer he'd get.

"That's the most likely explanation."

Saiga remained slumped in his seat for some time, running a hand through his hair as he processed everything. Finally, he spoke up again.

"So that's why you're after Jack so badly? You want to get a card back?"

"There's quite a bit more to it than that." Yusei countered. "You already know I come in two sizes, but you haven't seen the other one."

"Just what are you saying?"

"Take a look." Yusei had taken off his right glove to show his hand, a blue hand with white claws. "If you've seen that last match Jack had against Enjo, then you've seen this before. That card is, quite literally, a part of me."

"Yeah, that one featured on the newsfeeds." Saiga put the pieces together, finally getting an idea as to what was driving Yusei so much. He rubbed his temples for a while, before standing up again to face Yusei. "It's late now, but everything's been prepared. Wait until morning before you head out."

"Alright then."

Neo-Domino - Security Storage Warehouse

Now that night had fallen again, it was time for Yusei to move. Reaching into his satchel, he pulled out the tracking device he'd been provided with, that would tell him the precise location of his D-Wheel the moment he was in range.

Pressing an ear against the door, he couldn't hear anything and slowly slid the door open, the lights dim though still possible to see, and nothing in sight. Edging out of his hiding place, he then slowly walked along the empty hallways following the map in his head, always keeping an ear out for anything that might head his way.

After much walking, Yusei finally reached his target. This door not only needed his pass card but a seven-digit code, one he had courtesy of Saiga.

'Okay. Six, two, five, one, six, nine, three.' Yusei mentally recited even as he input the numbers, a slight beep telling him that the code was correct.

Now inside the main storage room, he discarded the overalls and cap he'd been wearing and looked at the tracker he'd been given. There was a soft beeping emanating from it that told him that he was closer to his D-Wheel. Following the signal sent him past crates and crates that contained other confiscated items, the beeping became louder with shorter intervals before it emitted a long unbroken beep, informing Yusei that his D-Wheel was less than a few metres away.

Jumping up onto one of the crates, Yusei tried to peer in to see for himself, though the dim lighting made that difficult at best.

"There you are!" A series of powerful lights trained onto Yusei, forcing him to shield his eyes for a moment until they could adjust. Once they had, he managed to see a row of Security Officers moving to surround him, with one other heavy-browed man that he'd seen before.

"You sure kept everyone guessing as to just where you were, and what you were up to." He spoke up, "Almost can't believe you'd be stupid enough to actually try and break into a Security Storage Warehouse!" His tone was mocking as he spoke.

"This D-Wheel is mine! And I'm taking it back!" Yusei countered, bringing his arm down.

"Wrong! Everything here is the legal property of the Neo-Domino Public Security Maintenance Bureau! And, for the record, the lives of Monsters like yourself belong to this City!" This bought him a harsh glare from Yusei that he chose to dismiss. "I'll be throwing your arse back to the Detention Island! Haul him off!" He commanded the squad that already had their weapons trained on Yusei, or they would have if Yusei hadn't already dropped into the crate and out of their sight.

"Humph. Give it up, Monster! There's nowhere for you to hide!" He called out as he leapt down to reach the crate that Yusei had leapt into, but halted when he heard something. The sound of an engine powering up and being revved hard.

He barely leapt out of the way in time to avoid debris from the shattered side striking him as Yusei charged out and tore across the room to make his escape.

'That's the easy part dealt with,' Yusei thought as he slipped out the doors before they were able to seal him in. 'Now for getting out of here.'

Which was easier said than done, the short narrow hallways made it so that he couldn't build up much speed before having to slam on the brakes to make each turn. Eventually though, he managed to reach the main stairway and work his way down, the harsh bouncing making steering his D-Wheel difficult, though not impossible.

'There it is.' Yusei sighted the front doors, and charged forwards to make his escape.

Which was when another obstacle presented itself, metal barricades were being lowered fast to cut off his way out, and he quickly determined that he wouldn't make it in time. Darting his eyes to the sides, some luck presented itself, one of them appeared to have jammed. Shifting his course, he raced to the unguarded window, bracing himself for what he was going to do.

Hunkering down, Yusei opened the taps all the way, the surge in acceleration sent him right into the window! Which thankfully for him, shattered on impact, sending him out where he raced onto the road, the one that would take him towards the Duel Stadium.

A minute or two passed, and Yusei was taking the time to recover from his actions, looking in a compartment within reach, grateful that his Riding Duel deck was there. Slotting it into the Deck Holder that was on his wrist, the sound of the auto-shuffle coming as sweet music to him. For the first time in a long while, his goal was within reach.

So hearing the sound of his Duel Disk activating came as a shock to him, stating that an Imposed Activation of Speed World was occurring. Looking behind, he saw a Security Officer racing to catch up with him.

"Hey, Monster!" He recognised that voice. "Thought you could escape huh!? Well I, Ushio will be hauling your arse back one way or another! You see, you're now locked in a Riding Duel with me, and once you lose, you're mine!" His laughter started low and deep, then quickly rose in both pitch and volume.

'Well,' Yusei began to think, 'If you're that desperate to leave it to Luck of the Draw, then fine.' "I accept the challenge then!" He brought out his opening hand, setting them into place as Ushio did likewise.

"Duel!" They called out the start of their Riding Duel.

Turn 1 - Yusei

Yusei - Ushio

4000 - LP - 4000

0 - SPC - 0

5 - Hand - 5

"I'll begin this Duel! Draw! I summon Dragunity - Tribul in defence position!" A small winged man with small feather-shaped shuriken-esque weapons took its place, turning a shade of blue to signify its battle position. (ATK 500, DEF 300, Lv1)

"I'll now activate its monster effect! When summoned to the field, I can take one level three or below dragon-type monster from my deck and send it to my cemetery!" One card came out of his deck which he then deposited in his cemetery, before taking another card from his hand. "I set one card face-down! Turn end!"

Turn 2 - Ushio

Yusei - Ushio

4000 - LP - 4000

1 - SPC - 1

4 - Hand - 5

"My turn then! Draw! And I summon Chase Squad in attack position!" Ushio's monster was a mechanical aerial thing who's flashing lights screamed 'Security'. (ATK 1400, DEF 600, Lv3)

"Chase Squad! Annihilate that piece of trash monster!" Complying with the order, a beam of blue energy tore into Yusei's defender monster that never stood a chance. "And now comes Chase Squad's monster effect that hits you for 500 damage by destroying your defender monster!" Chase Squad fired an electrical bolt towards Yusei which cut his life points. (Yusei LP = (4000-500) = 3500)

"I'll set two cards face-down now, and end my turn at that!"

Turn 3 - Yusei

Yusei - Ushio

3500 - LP - 4000

2 - SPC - 2

4 - Hand - 3

"My turn! Draw!" Yusei added his new card as Ushio pressed a button on his D-Wheel.

"Not so fast, monster! My Permanent Trap activates! Full Throttle!" One of his set cards came into view now. "This trap activates once Speed World's effect applies, and now that it has, I gain one additional Speed Counter during each and every standby phase that passes while this trap remains active!" Yusei could only watch as Ushio's Speed Counters began to creep ahead of his. (Ushio SPC 2 - 3)

"That, is one seriously overpowered card there." Yusei growled.

"Yes, it is." Ushio chuckled. "Just one of the benefits enjoyed by those in the Public Security Maintenance Bureau's Security Forces. You see, cards such as this have brutal restrictions on their use. But for those like me, these otherwise banned cards can be utilised to their full potential!" He laughed almost manically once he'd finished speaking.

'Still won't help you though.' "Trap Card open! Angel Lift! This allows me to special summon a level two or below monster from my cemetery in attack position! After which I equip this card to it! Be reborn! Dragunity - Tribul!" His monster returned to join his side. "And again, I send a level or below dragon-type monster from my deck to my cemetery!"

"Heh! Won't matter! I'll take you down!" Ushio taunted.

"Wishful thinking, Dragunity - Partizan! Attack position!" A small purple dragon in gold armour with a massive blade set on its head emerged on Yusei's field. (ATK 1200, DEF 800, Lv2)

"And through its monster effect, I special summon Dragunity - Primus Pilus from my hand by equipping Partizan to it!" This new monster was another humanoid being dressed with a bird head helmet, Dragunity - Partizan forming the whip that it now held. (ATK 2200, DEF 1600, Lv5)

"And while a monster equipped with Dragunity - Partizan is treated as a Tuner monster, I'm not going to Synchro summon just yet! Instead, I attack Chase Squad with Dragunity - Primus Pilus!" His monster followed the command by launching its whip at Ushio's monster, enveloping it before slamming it into the highway they were racing along. (Ushio LP = 4000 - (2200-1400) = 3200)

"And now Dragunity - Tribul attacks you directly!" Ushio had to brace himself as feather shurikens were flung at him. (Ushio LP = (3200-500) = 2700)

"I'll set two cards face-down, turn end!"

Turn 4 - Ushio

Yusei - Ushio

3500 - LP - 2700

3 - SPC - 5

1 - Hand - 3

"You're beginning to get on my nerves now, draw!" Ushio's annoyance was short-lived when he looked at the card he drew. "I summon Gate Blocker in defence position!" A massive stone slab with a single eye turned to a blue shade as it appeared in front of Yusei. (ATK 100, DEF 2000, Lv4)

"What the Hell?" Yusei wondered what this new monster was.

"I'll set one more card face-down, turn end!" Ushio was smiling as he finished his turn, which had Yusei unnerved.

Turn 5 - Yusei

Yusei - Ushio

3500 - LP - 2700

3 - SPC - 7

1 - Hand - 2

"Draw!" Yusei drew his card, when something worrying caught his attention.

"Hey, monster! Your Speed Counters didn't increase did they!?" Ushio question him mockingly. "That would be on account of the monster effect of Gate Blocker! You see, while this beast is on my field, the opposing player is unable to gain Speed Counters through the effect of Speed World!" His manic laughter returned once he'd finished explaining his card's broken effect.

'So not only does he double his Speed Counter gain, he shuts off mine.' Though Yusei's thoughts only escaped as an annoyed growl while checking his hand for options.

"I summon Dragunity - Militum in attack position!" He announced the beginning of his counterattack. (ATK 1700, DEF 1200, Lv4)

"Dragunity - Militum's monster effect activates! Once per turn, I can un-equip and equipped Dragunity monster and special summon it! Return to Monster Zone, Dragunity - Partizan!" Primus Pilus lost its whip with the equipped monster returning to the Monster Card Zone.

"And I now tune Dragunity - Militum with Dragunity - Partizan!" Two rings, four stars. "Bearing the spirits of the fallen, the lone knight charges on! Synchro summon! Come forth! Dragunity Knight - Gae Bulg!" His Synchro monster took its place by Yusei's side, ready for battle.

"Can't let you do that." Ushio chuckled cruelly. "Counter-Trap open! Discord Counter!"

"What!?"

"This trap activates the moment you perform a Synchro summon, sending your Synchro monster right back to the Extra Deck, before special summoning the material monsters used to your field!" Yusei's monster vanished as Militum and Partizan returned with blue shading to show their being in defence. "In addition, you are forbidden from summoning any monsters to your field until the end phase of your next turn! Haha! Haha! That's the power of authority for you!"

'Just how many broken cards does he have!?' Yusei thought while Ushio laughed, near-hysterically. 'But I'm not completely without alternatives here.'

"I attack Gate Blocker with Dragunity - Primus Pilus!" His monster charged at Ushio's defender monster, using its fists to shatter it. 'There, without that, I can start gaining Speed Counters again.'

"Trap card open! Broken Blocker! When a defender monster I control whose defence is greater than its attack is destroyed, I can special summon up to two more copies of the same monster from my deck in face-up defence position!" Now Yusei had two of those stone slabs barring his path.

"I switch Dragunity - Militum to defence position. Turn end." Yusei stated, having no other options open to him at this time.

Turn 6 - Ushio

Yusei - Ushio

3500 - LP - 2700

3 - SPC - 9

1 - Hand - 2

"My turn again. Draw!" Permanent Trap open! Call of Living Dead! I'll use this to bring back Chase Squad from my cemetery!" His monster came back while a dark chuckle came from him. "I'll now summon the Tuner monster, Trapart in attack position!" His newest monster came in the form of two identical doll-like things spinning on opposing sides of the same disc. (ATK 600, DEF 600, Lv2)

"I'll now tune one of my Gate Blockers with Trapart now!" Two rings, four stars! "Behold! This is the power of authority! Synchro summon! Goyo Guardian!" This monster heavily resembled a Kabuki actor wielding a Jutte held by a long rope. (ATK 2800, DEF 2000, Lv6)

"What!?" Yusei cried out, seeing it's very high attack and defence for its level.

"Just one more card permitted by those in Security." Ushio explained. "Now! Goyo Guardian! Attack his only attacker monster! Goyo Lariat!" His monster's weapon was spun hard, before firing into Primus Pilus. (Yusei LP = 3500 - (2800-2200) = 2900)

Yet his monster wasn't destroyed. Instead, Goyo Guardian had wrapped the rope around it and dragged it over to Ushio's field. "You see the power of authority, monster!?" Ushio's laughter came back yet again, pissing off Yusei to no end. "When Goyo Guardian's attack is successful, I can choose to take control of the monster it attacked instead of destroying it! Now I'll attack that Partizan with Chase Squad! So take some more damage now!"

Yusei growled his frustrations as his life points dropped below that of Ushio's. (Yusei LP = (2900-500) = 2400)

I'll set one card face-down now. Turn end!"

Turn 7 - Yusei

Yusei - Ushio

2400 - LP - 2700

3 - SPC - 11

1 - Hand - 1

"Draw! I set one card face-down. Turn end." This was something he could ill-afford and he knew it. 'If I can't turn things around soon, it'll be over.' Mental worry crept in, and not unnoticed.

Turn 8 - Ushio

Yusei - Ushio

2400 - LP - 2700

3 - SPC - 12

1 - Hand - 1

"Draw! Speed Spell - Sonic Buster, activate!" Ushio cried out in glee since from his perspective, he already had the Duel won. "When my Speed Counters are at four or above, I take half the attack power of one of my monsters, like Goyo Guardian, and deal that as damage to you!" A beam of white energy poured into his Goyo Guardian's chest before being expelled right into Yusei, who actually swerved slightly under the impact force. (Yusei LP = 2400 - (2800/2) = 1000) Yusei SPC 3 - 2

"And here's more! I switch Dragunity - Primus Pilus into attack position, and then attack with Goyo Guardian and Chase Squad!" Yusei remaining defender monsters were destroyed and taken control of as his life points fell critically low. (Yusei LP = (1000-500) = 500)

"And I'll be taking control of Dragunity - Militum as per Goyo Guardian's effect!" True to his word, Yusei's Militum was now on Ushio's field. "This will finish it! Dragunity - Primus Pilus! Direct attack!" Defeating Yusei with his own monster would be a very satisfying end for Ushio, who relished the moment with unbridled, malicious joy!

"Trap card open! Boosting Resurrection!" Yusei revealed the set card he had on his field. "This allows me to special summon a level four or below monster from my cemetery in attack position, by equipping it with this card! In addition that monster gains 100 additional attack and defence points while its level is increased by one! Return, Dragunity - Black-Spear!" A black and silver dragon with a large spear below its eyes, though above its mouth emerged from Yusei's cemetery. (ATK 1000 - 1100, DEF 1000 - 1100, Lv3 - 4)

"And now its effect activates! Once per turn, I can release a dragon-type Dragunity monster to special summon a level four or below wing-beast monster from my cemetery! So I release Dragunity - Black-Spear to special summon Dragunity - Tribul in defence position!" His first monster returned to shield him from harm.

"Fine then! I'll just attack that thing again then!" Yusei's own Primus Pilus charged in to wipe out his defender monster, leaving his field open again, though thankfully Ushio had used up all his attacks now. "Trap card open! Final Countdown!" He revealed his final tactic to securing his victory.

"Once activated, I am unable to play any more Magic or Trap cards, but I can set one card each turn through its effect, and then during the main phase one of my turn, send this card and all cards set through its effect to my cemetery to inflict damage to you!" He laughed again. "With two cards, I inflict 500 damage to you! And that's all I need to win! First card! Set! Turn end!"

Turn 9 - Yusei

Yusei - Ushio

500 - LP - 2700

3 - SPC - 12

1 - Hand - 0

'I'd best make this next turn work then, because on way or another, it's going to be my last one here.' Yusei mentally vowed to turn things around, eyes closed as the slowly slipped, before whipping out the card that would make, or break things for him here. He took one look at it an whispered. "Here it is."

"Speed Spell - Accel Draw! Activate!" Yusei called out as he played the card he'd just drawn.

"Wait a minute there!" Ushio interrupted. "That Speed Spell requires that you have 12 Speed Counters to activate it! You don't have enough to meet the requirements!"

"Is that so?" Yusei asked, in his own mocking tone. "Take another look."

"What?" Ushio looked at the duel data he had. "Wait a minute!? Twelve Speed Counters as well!? But how!?" The news being a complete shock to him.

"You should have paid more attention to that last turn! You would have seen what I played earlier!"

"What are you…" Ushio stopped when he saw new data revealing what Yusei had in his cemetery, specifically, "Slip-Slip Stream!?" He screeched out in horror, realising what had happened.

"That's right. It's a trap that can be activated when the opposing player activates a Speed Spell while your own Speed Counters are lower than theirs. On the following Standby Phase, it makes your Speed Counters equal to your opponents! And because of that, I draw two cards through Accel Draw's effect!" Yusei added his new cards and looked them over, a clear path to victory revealed.

"I summon Dragunity - Aklys in attack position!" (ATK 1000, DEF 800, Lv2)

"Then I activate the effect of Aklys to special summon Dragunity Arms - Laevatein from my hand, to which Aklys is equipped to!" Now his large, orange-armoured black dragon emerged while Aklys became its sword. (ATK 2600, DEF 1200, Lv8)

"Permanent Trap, Dragon's Rage! Activate!" Yusei revealed the last set card on his field. "Through this trap's effect, my dragon-type monsters all gain the Pierce effect!"

"Don't tell me he's gonna…" Ushio growled out, as he worked out what Yusei was planning to do.

"I activate a Speed Spell - Speed Energy! Activated when my Speed Counters are at two or above, it gives one monster I control 200 attack points for each Speed Counter I have! My Speed Counters are at twelve!" Laevatein glowed with energy, roaring into the sky as it filled with new power. (Dragunity Arms - Laevatein ATK = 2600 + 12(200) = 5000)

"5000 attack points!?" Ushio cried out and a mixture of shock and fear.

"And every single one of them is going straight into that Gate Blocker!" On command Laevatein charged at Ushio's stone wall, slamming its sword down on it hard, cleaving it in two! "And with Dragon's Rage's effect! The difference in Laevatein's attack power and Gate Blocker's defence power is taken out of your life points!" (Ushio LP = 2700 - (5000-2000) = 0)

Even before the Solid State Holograms had faded, Yusei charged through the disintegrating Gate Blocker leaving Ushio to slow to a halt while his Pursuit D-Wheel billowed out smoke. Within seconds, he was too far away from Ushio to be seen clearly, and then not at all.

"It doesn't really matter though." Ushio cruelly chuckled to himself. "After all with Imposed Speed World, your location was clear to Headquarters. You'll be caught again, soon enough!" He laughed like a madman, screaming his crazed joy into the sky with no-one to hear him.

Neo-Domino - Daimon Island

Some Time Later

His destination was within sight. The Duel Stadium.

'It won't be long now, Jack.' Yusei vowed. 'Not long before I beat you down and drag you back to face your dues.'

Once he was closer, he began to circle the Stadium, looking for a means of entry. Slowly making his way, he kept a sharp eye out for any means of getting in. He went close to halfway around its outer perimeter before a possible entry point presented itself. Stopping his D-Wheel, he stepped off and approached it.

'A basic keypad lock? Looks easy enough to break.' Yusei pondered as he looked it over bit by bit, determining what he would need to secure the access code for it.

It was most likely that very concentration that prevent him from seeing what was happening right behind him. At least, until the lights were fired on and facing him. Yusei noted his own ill luck as he shielded his eyes while they adjusted to the bright lights, this being the second time in as many hours that he had several spotlights on him, and not for a good reason.

'Change form, knock them bastards out, grab my D-Wheel, then get outta here for now.' Yusei mentally prepared his course of action, getting ready to move the moment he could see clearly again.

"You might wish to desist from any attempt to escape here! It will do you no good!" A deep voice called out to him from the rows of Security Officers.

As Yusei's eyes adjusted, he could see someone walking towards him as the lights slowly dimmed, making it easier to see who was approaching. He'd seen him before, if only on a TV Screen, never up close. Blue-grey suit, long silvery hair. The Director of the Neo-Domino Public Security Maintenance Bureau.

Rex Godwin.

"And so you're under no illusion, any harm comes to me, and they kill you." Rex smiled as he spoke, a smile filled with power, confidence, and absolute superiority.

"What does the Director want with me?" Slight contempt in Yusei's tone, that Godwin chose to ignore.

"More than you could imagine." He had lowered his voice, making sure only he and Yusei could hear him speak. "But are you not curious? As to why Jack is here? Why he has your card? And what your role is in all of this? Co-operate, and those questions will receive answers. Refuse, well, there's no need for me to explain that." While Godwin's tone had been calm and measured on the surface, Yusei had detected a threatening undercurrent of coldness in it.

Taking a minute to think it through, weighing up the pros and cons of each option, he finally, grudgingly, made a decision.

"Tell me."

Author's Note: Godwin has personally intervened to compel Yusei to co-operate with him! Godwin, who knows how to use both the Carrot and the Stick to keep people on side! So just what will he be able to offer - or more likely, discretely threaten - Yusei with? Find out in future chapters!
