"Where the hell can she be?" Tate asked, as he sat on the curb, and ran his hands threw his floppy blonde hair.
"She probably just went off again; you know how curious she can be." Violet sat down next to Tate and put her arm around his shoulders.
"It will be fine, you know Addie…she's probably just trying to pull a prank on us."
"I don't know Violet; I have a bad feeling about this. If Addie was pulling a prank she would have done it by now." Tate pulled his phone out of his jacket pocket and checked the time. "It's been ten minutes already…"
Violet sighed, and looked down the block; it was quiet and dark and there weren't that many people walking around, or going trick or treating anymore.
"Do you think she went home?"
"No" Tate shook his head slowly. "No she wouldn't do that… she would have told me."
"Well call your mom, maybe she knows something." Violet stood up and looked up and down the block again. "No one's outside besides us. I don't see anyone else."
"I'm not calling my mom Vi, not like she would know anything anyways. She's probably shitfaced by now." Tate stood up, and looked up and down the block as well. Violet was right, no one else was there besides them.
"Okay…well let's walk up and down this block again, if we don't find her we can go to the police and file a missing persons report." Violet took her witches hat off, and began to walk down the dark, empty street.
"Hey, don't you go anywhere without me. I don't need to lose you too!" Tate practically yelled out. He was frustrated, and tired. Violet didn't blame him for how he was acting. Tate was always an unstable mess; he didn't know how to handle certain types of situations but he was trying to remain calm, he was doing the best he could do, and Violet was proud of him.
"Tate, everything will be alright. I promise you."
"You can't promise me that Vi, I know you're trying to keep the positivity going around. But it's not here, and it won't be here until I have Addie right in front of me. I'm sorry; I just have a horrible feeling."
"I understand…" Violet stood on the sidewalk, staring at Tate; she was worried and nervous just as much as he was, but she was trying her best not to show it.
"Let's just look up and down the block, maybe we can ring a couple door bells and see if anyone saw her."
"Yeah, we can do that." Tate said, he took Violet's cold little hand, and they began to search the block.
"Thanks for your help." Violet said to an elderly lady, who was willing to help her and Tate if she knew any information, but she didn't have any trick or treaters come to her house at all. Her door bell didn't even ring once, she claimed.
"Nothing. This is ridiculous, how is it that no one saw her! Really? Someone must have seen her!" Violet walked down the steps of the elderly ladies home, and made her way back towards Tate who stood by the curb.
"I guess all we have now, is to go to the cops. What time is it anyways?" Violet asked, Tate's back was toward her, and he was as still as stone.
"The cops won't even do anything to help until a 24 hour mark of Addie being gone, they won't help us." Tate's voice was cold and harsh. He mumbled something under his breath as he dug through his jacket pocket to pull out his phone again.
"It's ten- thirty."
"Wow, already? Tate we have to go to the cops, it's the only other option we have. They might be willing to help since its Halloween. There's always weird shit that happens on Halloween, they have to help…it is their job." Violet walked closer to Tate and tried to pull him into a comforting hug, but he rejected it, brushing Violet's touch off of him.
"I know you're trying to comfort me, but don't do it. If you want to go to the cops Violet, go ahead. Yeah it's their job to help; they're supposed to protect people. But do you really think they're going to do it? Half of them won't even care." There was still a tone of harshness in Tate's voice, and it started to scare Violet a little bit.
"I know you're pissed Tate. I know you're hurt, angry, confused and god knows what else. But we have no other options. We can't just go around the city looking for Addie. We have no leads, she doesn't have a phone. We have nothing. We need to go to someone who has more authority than us, someone who knows how to do this kind of thing. We can't do it on our own." Violet spoke with courage, and gained a back bone to stand up against her boyfriend. Tate was being ridiculous, immature; and Violet knew that because of this, he wasn't seeing straight. Tate wasn't seeing what had to be done, and if he couldn't, Violet was going to do what was right.
Tate looked at Violet with his eyebrows raised, his almost black eyes staring into Violet's honey brown ones. He looked frightening with his skeleton face in the dark night, almost like a killer, but Violet knew he wouldn't do anything to her. Tate wouldn't be able to forgive himself if he hurt Violet in any way.
"Go. Go to the cops Violet." Tate spoke so softly she almost didn't hear him.
"And what are you going to do?" Violet was having enough of Tate's attitude today. He had every right to be upset about his sister missing, but it didn't mean he had to be immature about it.
"Look for her. What else would I do?" Tate furrowed his eyebrows, and shook his blonde hair out of his face.
"Just go Violet. Go to the cops you're right. But I need to look for her too."
"Alright, alright. I'll call you when I get there okay?" Violet squeezed Tate's hand, and kissed him on the cheek.
"Violet? Just promise me you won't go missing too." Tate let go of his girlfriend's hand.
"Don't worry I won't. Everything is going to be alright. Just try not to think the worst, please? I hate seeing you like this." Violet kissed Tate and smiled at him, she felt kind of guilty for leaving him alone. But Tate was right, maybe finding Addie would go faster if he had a head start looking, and then the police joining in later; regardless, they did need professional help, and Violet knew that they would find Addie, she couldn't have gotten that far.
