Chapter 11.
"Showdown"
Well here's the final chapter of the story, enjoy y'all.
After arriving in Vancouver, Simon got another text from his friend Harold that said that Ian was staying in a hotel in town and that now would be a good opportunity to get evidence on him.
So after getting a rental car and driving to the hotel, everybody got out and went inside and asked the clerk what room Ian was in, the clerk told them and they went to Ian's room, stopping just around the corner from the door, "Now what?" whispered Theodore, "What's the plan?", "Don't worry," said Simon, "I'm one step ahead.", Simon then set his phone to record audio and set it around the corner from Ian's room.
Presently, voices could be heard on the other side of the door, "Compadre, why don't we just take the chopper to Tijuana like we agreed?" said a Hispanic voice, "Because, Ernesto," said the other voice that was assumed to belong to Ian "I have a score to settle with those filthy chipmunks, with them out of the way, we get off scot free.".
Having gotten all the information that they needed, everybody started to head out the door when Alvin yelled at the top of his voice, "Hey Ian?", he then turned to the rest of the group, "Everybody, RUN!" he shouted which they all did whole-heartedly.
One they got out to the car, they were all confused as to why Alvin blew their cover, "What was that for?" asked Toby, Alvin meanwhile, was not paying attention, "Simon, you work the gas, Eleanor, You got the brake and I'll take the wheel." he said, "Alvin, what are you doing?" Claire asked, "Just get in!" Alvin barked.
Everybody got in and, with Alvin, Simon and Eleanor driving, they took off like a shot for a nearby airfield with Ian in hot pursuit and Ernesto firing an AKMS assault rifle at them, "Will somebody please explain to me what is going on?" Claire asked, impatiently, Alvin leaned over and whispered to Claire what the plan was.
Once they got to the airfield they all jumped out and ran to a UH-1 Huey helicopter parked on the helipad and got in and took off, Ian and his friend also got into their own chopper and took off after them, with Ernesto firing an M60 machine gun at them, none of the bullets hit anybody, and he eventually ran out of ammunition, "Bring them down!" shouted Ian, so Ernesto pulled out an RPG-7 rocket launcher and fired it at the Huey, it missed hitting the chopper directly but managed to graze one of the tail wings, causing the Huey to spin out of control towards the ground.
While Claire and Toby fought to regain control over the stricken chopper, the craft banked sideways, causing Brittany to almost fall out if it wasn't for Alvin's quick thinking, he ran over to grab her paws but was starting to slip himself, "Brittany?" he said "If we never make it out of this, I...I just want to let you know...", "Know what Alvin?" asked Brittany, "I just want to let you know that...I love you, Brittany.", Brittany was so shocked that she almost let go of Alvin but he managed to haul her back inside the helicopter and she threw her arms around him.
Around that time, Toby managed to regain control of the Huey and they continued on their way.
By now everybody was extremely perplexed, "Alvin," Simon shouted "The idea is to get Ian, not the other way around!", "Being one step ahead isn't a plan, Si," said Alvin, "now, being two or three steps ahead, that's what I call a plan.".
Alvin then looked down at his phone "Hammer two-four, lock on two bogies on our six." he said to the phone, now it was Claire's part in the plan, "Ian Hawke and Ernesto Sánchez," she said sternly over the Huey's radio "You're engaged in unauthorized combat against United States army personnel.", "No no no, I'm not!" Ian shouted back, "You engaged me first!", "Repeat," Claire said again, even firmer "You're engaged in unauthorized combat against United States army personnel...", Alvin then snatched the radio from Claire "Inside American airspace." he said, finishing Claire's sentence, because in the pursuit, Ian had accidentally crossed the border into the United States and was now considered a hostile threat.
All Ian was able to get out of his mouth was "Oh s-" before an F-15 fighter plane swooped in and fired a missile at the pursuing chopper, blowing it up completely.
With the threat out of the way, they managed to land the helicopter in Seattle Washington where a court granted them a re-trial hearing, the chipmunks presented their evidence and it was determined that they were innocent.
They had their names cleared, had all charges dropped, and were allowed to return home, and Claire was acquitted of her actions that day.
After the trial, as they were all in the parking lot, Jeanette came up to Simon, "Uhh...umm, Simon?" she stammered, "about what happened at the uh...at the tank..." she said, Simon looked confused at first, but then he remembered what she was talking about.
Afterwards, Simon approached Alvin, "Alvin, I would just like to say that I...I'm sorry," he said, "I never should've doubted you." he finished, "That's okay, Si." said Alvin, "remember what I told Theo when we were in prison?" He said, " 'There's a plan in everything'," he said slinging his rifle over his shoulder and putting his other arm around Brittany's shoulder, "And I love it when a plan comes together." he said with a big grin.
