Chapter 11: Watching Eyes
The white ceiling had never looked so dull and lifeless before, the colour calling for some sense of life. Elena sighed for what felt like the 20th time in the past five minutes. Everything had gone from bad to worse in a matter of days. Rubbing her face, she sat up against the headboard and looked at the time. 5:30 AM. Just another day for her to screw up things with her friend. What was she going to do? About Klaus? About Caroline? Looking beside her, she smiled slowly as she seen Damon in one of his deep sleeps. Stroking her fingers down his cheek, she leaned down and pressed a kiss to his forehead.
Slowly moving out of the bed, she slipped her robe on and moved out of the room as she closed the door behind her as quiet as she possibly could, not wanting to wake Damon from his slumber. Hearing someone moving about downstairs, she swallowed as she slowly descended the stairs, waiting to see the worse. Seeing Jenna, she sighed in relief and made her way over.
"Good morning Jenna." Elena murmured, moving to the fridge as she grabbed a bottle of water out.
"Bloody hell, did you wet the bed? You know it's REALLY early right?"
"I'm well aware, thank you." The brunette leaned against the counter.
"I don't know what's going on honey, but if you need to talk-"
"Jenna, I-I don't know what to do, I just don't know."
"Is this to do with the Damon and Caroline situation?" She questioned curiously.
"I know you're confused about all of that, but no, that's not it. Everything is just SO complicated."
"So, what's going on with you two then?" Jenna sipped at her coffee, raising an eyebrow.
"Me and Damon?" She inhaled, "I fell hard and I'm still falling."
"Do you love him?" She tilted her head.
"I-"
"Isn't love a BIT of a strong word?" Stefan questioned as he walked down the staircase.
Elena clenched her fists as Jenna looked between them two, sensing the friction and tension. Confusion swirled in her eyes as the brunette nodded at her to go upstairs. Not waiting for another word, Jenna moved upstairs past Stefan, leaving them two alone.
"Always eavesdrop on people's conversations?" Elena glared at him.
"Only those of interest." He smirked, licking his lips.
"Well, were NOT at any conflict of interest."
"I'm your ONLY interest."
"Pffft, been quite a while since that happened, SO long ago that I don't actually recall it."
"I can make you remember."
She gasped as he moved fast and had her pinned against the counter. Grinning, he stared down at her as he leaned in to kiss her, earning him a slap in the progress as her brown eyes filled with hate and anger.
"I'd rather not be reminded of such memories, memories that clouded my judgement for WAY too long."
"What we had-"
"Was sickening and NOTHING worth talking about, alright Stefan?"
"I'll compel you." He warned her.
"You can't, I've been drinking it since your little parlor trick, sending me across the lake. You snooze you lose pal, deal with it."
Moving past him, she made her way upstairs and up the hall to her room as she entered and slowly closed the door behind her. Sighing, she walked over to the bed, crawling onto it and jumped as Damon's arms twirled around her waist, pulling her close to him.
"Trying to piss off my asshat of a brother again I see." He muttered sleepily.
"Just setting things straight," She looked up at him, kissing his eyelids softly, "He pissed you off last night."
"Tell me something I don't know."
"Uhm, Klaus is an Original vampire? The vampire of all vampires?" She smiled innocently.
Damon sat up so quickly, that he caught Elena by surprise as she fell onto her back, looking up at him as he stared down at her, his eyes wide as questions and answers floated through his eyes, like some secret puzzle he was trying to figure out.
"He's an original? Like the originals that created our bloodline original?" Damon questioned.
"That kind of Original, yes."
"How do you know exactly?"
"Bonnie, I got Bonnie to see. Look Damon, I don't know what to do, I've been going crazy trying to think."
"We'll sort it, don't worry, alright?"
There was a knock on the door, drawing both Damon and Elena's attention as she moved over to it, pulling it open to see Jenna standing there with a bright smile. Sighing in relief, Elena tilted her head and looked at her, smiling.
"Wanna go shopping? We should go shopping? All US girls should go shopping."
"Uhm, sure Jenna, sounds good."
"Good, see you in a bit!" She skipped off down the hall.
"That was-"
"Weird," Damon finished, clearing his throat, "Your family, I'll never get use to them."
Damon stood at the end of the end of the pier, watching the trees and water blowing with the wind. Licking his lips, he looked down at his watch and took a breath. The girls had all left for shopping two hours ago, while Jeremy said he'd run out for groceries half an hour ago. He was left with Klaus and Stefan, he just didn't know where they were, more time for him to think anyway. Hearing footsteps, he frowned and turned on his heel to see Stefan and Klaus walking towards him.
"Can I help you two with something?" He raised an eyebrow, looking between them.
"Yeah, you sure could mate."
Klaus moved quickly behind Damon, jabbing an injection of vervain into his neck as he struggled to stay awake, soon becoming weak as he fell unconscious. Stefan smirked, licking his lips as he took the rope from behind his back and tied his feet and hands together.
"Looks like our work is done here." Stefan grinned.
"He should stay out for a while, buys us some time."
"It sure does."
They saluted eachother, one at each end of Damon as they threw him into the water, his body sinking straight down. Laughing, they walked down the pier and inside, not aware of watching eyes.
