Chapter Ten

June 10th, Year XXX9

Location: United States

Place: Pomona, Texas

Guinevere woke up before dawn. She carefully got out of bed and sat before her lap top, the machine came to life in an instant and quickly wrote an email to her twin sister about her first day of experience with Heero. Happily going into details of how it feels of having a Father and how much she is loving every minute of it.

She ended her email with - I hope you feel the same way with Mother, she is truly a lovely person.

Closing the page and make certain that there was no trace of the email before shutting off the lap top. 'Time to start the day.'

She planned on making a big breakfast before they hit the road to go fishing at the lakes. 'Pancake, eggs, bacon, fruit bowl and coffee...'

Prepping her ingredients before bed and hoping to wake up before Heero but when she entered the kitchen, she gasped in surprise to find him awake and behind the stove. Heero looked up, he smiled at her.

"Good morning, Princess." Heero greeted, "I assume you wanted to make breakfast but I got to it first. Pancakes, eggs, bacon, fruit bowl and coffee?"

Gwen slightly pouted at her Father. "Aw, Dad, I wanted to make them."

"Sorry." Heero chuckled. "I added chocolate chip in yours."

"Yay!" Gwen cheered, she hurried and set the table. Pouring coffee for her Father and orange juice for her, "So, where are we going fishing?"

"Lake Buchanan, two hour drive from here." Heero answered her as he flipped the pancakes expertly from the skillet to the plate with ease, Gwen wanted to clap but she giggled instead. "You still like that, no matter how many times I've done so since you were a baby."

"It's fun watching you, Dad." Gwen replied. "When are we leaving?"

"After breakfast, our stuff is already in the truck and ready to go." Heero came around the island and set the plate of steaming hot pancakes in front of his daughter. "I took the liberty and pack for you, I've planned this trip since you left for camp."

"Thanks Dad." Gwen helped herself with the pancakes. "Going fishing is going to be fun. I fished at the camp with the girls too, we didn't get much and all the fish were tiny..."

Heero smiled, "You won't be disappointed at the lake we are going to."

Gwen smiled, "I can't wait."

Suddenly, the phone rang and Heero stood up to answer it. "Hello? Yes, she's awake."

"It's for you Princess, its Lana."

Gwen chewed her food quickly before swallowing as she got up and took the phone from Heero, "Thanks Dad."

"Hi Lana."

'Hey Gwen, morning." Lana cheerfully greeted. "Opps, I shouldn't call out your name so loudly. You Dad might hear it…'

Gwen quickly glanced at Heero but he was busy reading the newspaper while drinking his coffee, she sighed in relief. "It's ok, what's up?"

'Listen, I know you're leaving town today, my Dad told me but I need to know when you will be back so that; Janice, you and I could go shopping.' Lana said without taking a breather.

"I'm not sure, let me ask." Gwen covered the mouth piece with her free hand and turned to Heero. "Dad, Lana wants to know when we are coming back because she wants to go shopping."

Heero looked away from his newspaper and looked at Gwen with a smile. "Saturday."

"Ok, listen Lana, we're coming on Sat-!" Gwen's eyes widen and turned to look at Heero in shock. "Saturday?"

'Eh? Saturday? That's a whole week!' Lana sounded frantic over the phone. 'Janice and I will be so bored without you!'

Gwen couldn't find the words but bit her lower lip a little and took a deep breathe. "I guess if you can wait until Saturday to go shopping, Lana but I'll understand if -!"

'No, Janice and I will wait for you.' Lana declared, 'Your our friend too and it's not just to keep our promise to Rhea, we like you a lot.'

This confession touched Gwen so much, she wanted to cry. "Thank you, Lana. I appreciate it very much."

'Be careful of how you talk, girl!' Lana gasped over the phone. 'You don't want to sound too proper!'

"You're right, sorry." Gwen sighed, she almost revert back to her proper self. "I'll see you Saturday."

'Ok, see you girlfriend! Have fun with your Dad!' Lana cheered and then hanged up.

Gwen place the phone back into its cradle on the wall. "The girls will wait to go shopping after I come back."

"That's nice dear, you have some good friend's right there." Heero gave her a smile.

"Dad, beside Uncle Duo. Don't you have other friends you talk to?" Gwen asked, she wanted to know how open her Father would be with her and then remember. "Beside Uncle Trowa too."

Heero paused for a minute and thought about it, he nodded his head before answering. "I have two other friends, they live overseas but you don't remember them since the last time they saw you is when you were born."

'Here we go…' Gwen thought, "Really? What are their names?"

Heero didn't even pause. "Quatre and Wufei…"

'Whoa! He didn't avoid the question!' Gwen was shocked inside but she didn't show it on her face. "Hmm… How come they never visit?"

"They're busy people and it's hard for them to get away, they have their own families to take care of." Heero gently smile. "Someday, I'll take you to meet them personally."

Gwen sat back down in her chair. "Sound's great, Dad. I'll remember that promise."

Heero was about to return his attention back into his newspaper when Gwen opened her mouth to ask another question. "Dad, what was my Mom like?"

This shocked Heero so much he almost dropped his mug of coffee. "What?"

"My Mom?" Gwen repeated. "You never talked about her, I want to know."

Not sure what to say, Heero put down his coffee and paper on the table. He eyed his daughter carefully, her eyes matching his but her face is so much like her Mother. For the first time in Heero's life, he was stumped. 'I expected this…'

"Your Mom, she's -!" Heero began to say but interrupted by the phone. Standing up, he picked up the phone before it could ring for the third time. "Hello? Duo?"

"Yeah, we're about to leave in about an hour."

Heero leaned against the wall, "Did you check the air compressor? Check that first, you might need to replace it. Ok, no problem."

"Don't be stupid, get that stuff taken care of before Hilde drives it or find yourself in the dog house for a week. Alright, see you in a week."

After hanging up, Heero look at his daughter. "Rhea…"

"Let's get moving, Dad. We want to avoid traffic." Gwen stood up with her empty place and glass. "I can't wait to go fishing!"

Heero grinned. "Then let's get out of here."

An hour later, they are cruising through the highway and it gave Gwen a great view of Texas. Massive and vast, "So pretty!"

"I haven't taken you this far out of Texas since you were little." Heero said, "I told you that I have a surprise for you, didn't I?"

Gwen's eyes lit up excitedly, "You said that yesterday, what is it?"

"We're going camping during our stay at the lake; we can walk the trails, hike, canoeing and do some biking around the area."

"There's also a rodeo at Houston, we are going to go see it before the end of the week. Is that alright with you?"

Gwen couldn't contain herself, she hugged her Father and kissed his cheek. "That sound amazingly wonderful!"

Heero blinked, he gave his daughter a side stare. "Amazingly wonderful?"

Gwen hit herself mentally, she giggled nervously at Heero. "My friend from London, she got some influence from her."

"A very proper new friend." Heero nodded his head. "That's good, sweetheart."

Gwen let out a relief and quite sigh. "I'm going to take a nap, Dad."

"Ok, we're about forty minutes away now." Heero said, he watched every side mirrors and check all cars that are driving behind him. 'Never know when they'll show up…'

An hour later, Heero found the perfect spot to set up camp. He unloaded the truck, set up the tent on the truck since he knew that his little girl would prefer it than sleep on the ground which he doesn't mind, and took the liberty to gather woods for their fire before waking her up.

"Aw, Dad! I could have help you!" Gwen pouted so cutely, Heero pinched her cheeks.

"It's alright, you looked tired from all your excitement from camp still." Heero ruffled her dark blonde hair. "Let's walk around a bit before we start finishing for dinner, hmm?"

"Ok!" Gwen took the lead along the shore, it was rocky but not too dangerous.

"There's a beach close to here and a waterfall, we can walk there." Heero kept up with her pace, after 10 years, he hasn't lost his agility nor he planned to. Secretly, every night, he trained to keep himself in shape and touch up on his skills. "The locals here are friendly and it's popular during this time."

"Dad, is it safe to swim in the water?" Gwen asked as she jumped from rock to rock.

"Yeah, it's safe." Heero answered.

"Nice, I want to go swimming when we get back." Gwen summersault on the next rock and landed perfectly, "Ta-da!"

"Very nice, Princess." Heero praised her.

Gwen giggled, she learned from Rhea during camp and it was a success. After a while the trail turned into more even ground and it lead to the port, a few good handful of tourist enjoying their stroll and a couple of open shops. To Gwen's amazement and pleasure, there is an ice cream parlor close by.

"Dad, can we go buy some ice cream?" Gwen pointed at the store. "Dairy Queen is just right there."

"Sure, why not." Heero couldn't turn her down from that tiny request.

"I'll race you!" Gwen smirked. "Go!"

She bolted.

Heero smirked, "That was cheating!"

Gwen giggled as she run and took noticed right away that Heero is beside her. 'His fast!'

"Not fast enough, Princess…" Heero taunt as he passes her, "I won't lose."

"No fair!" Gwen increase her speed but to no avail, her Father won by a good three minutes as he leaned against the doorway of the shop. "Just wait, I'll beat you someday."

Heero smirked as he opened the door. "We will see…"

As they sat outside on one of the tables, Gwen realized that despite Heero's age, he didn't look it at all. 'Dad's so handsome…'

Thinking about Relena, she smiled. 'Mom doesn't either and both of them at almost in their 30s.'

Suddenly, she heard giggles and whispers all around her. Gwen allowed her eyes to wonder and found female spectators eyeing Heero.

"Look, his so handsome…" One said.

"I know, the girl must be his sister." The other said. "What a nice brother…"

"You can tell that they're related, they have that same beautiful eyes." A girl from another table admired Heero appreciatively, "I wonder if his single…"

"I want to talk to him." Another girl said.

"Do it, maybe he will play with us for a while." Her friend encourage her. "It would be so much fun."

Gwen raised an eyebrow but when she look at Heero, she smiled. He doesn't seem to pay any of the comments any mind nor reacting to them either. Standing up, Gwen threw away her empty cup and for just the heck of it, she look at Heero. "Dad, I'm ready to go."

With that said, everyone around who heard her perfectly gasped. Gwen held back a laugh. 'Mission complete.'

Heero stood leisurely, "Don't you want anything else, sweetheart?"

"I want to buy some souvenirs for the girls, Daddy." Gwen answered.

"Alright, let's go." Heero threw his own empty cup, "Where do you want to go first?"

"The Gift shop, it's over there." Gwen pointed out the shop across the way.

"No way, that's his daughter?" One of the female said in shock.

"The girl is about what 9 – 10 years old maybe?" Another said. "No way!"

"He can't be old enough to be that girls Dad." A third girl eyed the Father and Daughter walking away. "Oh my god."

'Serves you ladies right for checking out my Father…' Gwen thought huffily. 'Dad belongs to our Mother.'

"You purposely crushed those girls dream of asking me out just now." Heero teased, "I thank you, Princess."

Gwen gasped dramatically, "Daddy, you caught me!"

Heero laughed, "Did you really think I didn't notice?"

"No, I knew you did." Gwen smile, "That was the purpose."

"When did you become such naughty girl?" Heero put his arm around his daughter and squeezed her. "I think you also picked up another habit during camp."

"Maybe." Gwen giggled.

It was two hours later when they returned to their camp site. Heero investigate his truck and belongings, making sure none was touched during their absence and found nothing. Gwen changed into her bathing suit and excitedly ran toward the water while Heero got the fire going.

'So nice, this will be my first time actually going camping!' Gwen excitedly thought as she swam around near the shore. 'And with Dad no less!'

"Rhea! I'm going to fish this way so don't come near here! The fish won't bite if you get too close!" Heero instructed.

"Ok!" Gwen answered. 'But he believes that I'm Rhea…'

'I wish to tell him the truth but it would mean he will send me back to Mother. Though that is the plan, for them to meet again but then, it would mean that my time with him will be cut short…'

Gwen dunked under the water and screamed. 'Oh Rhea, I'm sure you are also feeling the same way as I do!'

'I want to spend more time with Father as much as I can before our time is up…'

In the meantime, Heero watched his little girl enjoying her swim. 'She's growing up so fast.'

'Though she didn't ask me again about Relena…'

Heero found himself in a dilemma, he is not sure where to start or how to explain to his daughter about the whole situation of why her parents need to be separated. 'And then there's that explanation, her twin sister…'

'Guinevere.'

He sighed, he missed his little Queen just as much as he miss Relena. 'Damn those bastards, hurry up and come out…'

'I want my family back…'
