The Birth
(Bella's POV)
Three days have passed since Gwen came into our lives and she has become such a good friend to the whole family. Like Rosalie said, she became family in such a short day. She was such a kind young woman and it's really upsetting me that we have to say goodbye soon.
Gwen was so nice to Renesmee. She would let her touch her stomach and Renesmee would talk with Gwen. My baby girl would come home from school each day and tell Gwen all about her day. I could tell Gwen enjoyed hearing about it and would even talk and play with Renesmee for hours. I think it helped her concentrate away from the pain and think of more pleasant things. Renesmee had found a friendship with Gwen and it was going to horrible when she would find out that Gwen is going to die.
It's sad that Gwen chose to die than become a vampire, but it's her choice sadly and not mine. I don't have a say in it. I really wish I did because she would've been an excellent mother. Everyone was dreading that we'd have to say goodbye. Even as excited as Rosalie was, I knew part of her was slightly torn up that she'd have to give up a friend.
We tried to see if Gwen would change her mind with interacting with Renesmee but she's set on being with Matthew again. She trust us fully and wants us to raise her children. Edward told me that she loves the twins a lot, but she can't take care of them. She believes she wouldn't be strong enough to take care of them as a vampire, hurt them, or without feeling empty. Jasper says she's really depressed underneath all of this and just wants peace. It seems like this girl's had a ruff life and just wants to be free of all her troubles.
Currently we were all in the living room having a somewhat normal day. Renesmee had just returned home from school and was starting to talk to her friend and it was helping Gwen a lot. To be honest, she looked like she was going to burst any day now. Gwen was in extreme pain, as hard as she tried to hide it. I know what her pain feels like but it must have been multiplied with twins. There wasn't much time until she would give birth and when she would, it was going to be even more painful.
"What are you going to name them?" Renesmee asked as she placed a tiny hand on Gwen's enlarged stomach.
"I don't know. I love the names Lillian and Aidan, if there is a boy and a girl," Gwen said as she placed her hand on the stomach. "They were my parents names, plus Lillian after Rose."
"How about if it's a boy and a girl then Lillian Gwen and Aidan Matthew," Rosalie suggested, smiling brightly at her.
"After me?" Gwen said incredulously. "And Matt?"
"Of course, you are the reason we are getting these two beautiful children in our lives. The least we can do is name our children after the woman who sacrificed herself so they could live," Rosalie told her.
"Thank you," Gwen told Rose softly, touching her hand gently.
"What if there are two girls or two boys?" Renesmee questioned at the possibility.
"Well if there are two girls how about the second girl can be Melody Rose and if there is another boy Gregory Emmett," Gwen suggested. Rosalie couldn't help but smile hearing her name and Emmett's once again.
"I love the names, and I promise you Emmett and I will protect the twins with our lives," Rosalie told her, causing Gwen to smile widely.
"I know you will," Gwen said softly. "And I'm happy you're the ones who will raise them instead of me."
"Shh, don't beat yourself up about it. Gwen you'd be an excellent mom," Rosalie told her.
"Thank you Rose, but I don't know," She muttered, looking down at her hands.
"Here you go Gwen," Esme announced, coming into the room with a cup of donated human blood.
"Thank you," Gwen said. I noticed Jasper leave the room with Alice as Gwen began to drink the red liquid. Poor guy still has some trouble when it comes to human blood, but he's getting a lot better.
All of a sudden there was a large crack and we turn to Gwen whose face was twisted in pain. Her drink dropped to the floor and I caught it before it could fall and spill all over the carpet. Don't want any of the others going into a frenzy at the smell of the blood.
"It's time," I said as all the others come running in to check on Gwen.
"Gwen?" Renesmee asked shakily as she looked at Gwen falling to the floor. Emmett and Rosalie were able to catch her in time, but her body was beginning to twitch. "JACOB!" I screamed, grabbing Renesmee away and hiding her face away front he scene.
"Yeah?" Jacob comes darting into the room with wide eyes. He then looks at the ground and I could see now that he gets the picture.
"Take Renesmee out of the room," I instructed him, putting her into his arms.
"Momma I want to stay with you guys," Renesmee pleaded, tears brimming her eyes. "I want to make sure Gwen will be okay."
"No baby you shouldn't be around for this," Edward said to Renesmee gently trying to change her mind.
"But Daddy-"
"Renesmee please," Edward begged her. "Gwen wouldn't want you to see her like this and it's for your own good you don't."
"Fine." Nessie sighed as she buried her face into Jacob's neck.
"Come on Ness," Jake said softly as he then carried her quickly upstairs.
Emmett picked Gwen up in one swift move into Carlisle's office where Renesmee was delivered. Alice was taking Jasper out for hunting in case of the blood and Esme would be waiting outside with Emmett while Rosalie, Carlisle, Edward, and I helped deliver the twins.
"Ready Gwen?" I asked her. I hold her hand as the others go to deliver the babies.
"Alright, I just want to see Matt again," Gwen said breathlessly. She was in so much pain, I just wanted it to end for her.
"Here is goes," Rosalie announced shakily.
Gwen let out a piecing screen as Carlisle used the scapulae to open up her stomach. I cringed, looking away as they worked on getting the babies out.
"Gwen, just look at me okay. Everything is going to be just fine," I tell her as I focus on her trying to make sure she doesn't see them rip out the twins from her womb. Her eyes were locked with mine as I cupped her face, keeping her as calm as I could.
"I just want peace!" Gwen cried out, sobbing slightly. Her face was covered with sweat and exhaustion.
Soon the babies were lifted from Gwen's stomach and into Rosalie and Edward's arms. There cries then filled the silent night in the home. Edward held a little girl while Rosalie held a little boy, both covered with Gwen's blood.
"It's a girl and a boy," Carlisle announced softly, looking at Gwen.
"Lillian and Aidan," Rosalie told her.
"May I see them?" Gwen asked full of exhaustion. She didn't have much time left until her heart would stop beating.
Rosalie and Edward carefully place them in her arms and Gwen smiled, cuddling both babies on her chest. They held tight to her, crying for their mother.
"Lillian and Aidan...They look like Matt, so beautiful," she whispered, kissing each of their foreheads. "Take care of them. Tell them I love them, tell them it's not their fault."
"We will," Rosalie said tearfully even though no tears escaped her eyes.
With that she had one last breath and her eyes closed. Soon her heart made its last beat and the room was silent once again except for the cries of Lily and Aidan, who were now being cleaned off by Carlisle and Rose. The venom began to pool up in my eyes as I looked at Gwen's motionless body. I felt awful looking at her, this poor girl was dead.
"Love come on," Edward said as he led me out of the room away from Gwen's dead body. At least she was with Matthew now and at peace.
