"So what's the first thing you're going to teach me?" I ask Tris.

"Well I already taught you how to shoot a gun," she says, "now I'm going to teach you how to throw knives."

"What for?" I ask. It doesn't seem necessary, just for show. She shrugs and says, "You don't know when it can come in handy, besides I told you I'd give you Dauntless training."

I sigh in defeat and pick up a knife. It feels cool in my hands, and then I watch Tris demonstrate. She takes in a deep breath and concentrates on the middle of the target. Then, suddenly, there's a knife on the center of the target. I proceed to copy her. I stand on my ground, copy her hand movements, then throw at the target. It didn't hit the center, but it's on the target. She looks at me wide-eyed and says, "Great first try." I feel proud of myself and pick up some more knives. After a couple more tries, I hit the center. I hit the center a couple more times and finally win Tris' approval.

"Now, I'm going to actually teach you how to fight," Tris says. Finally! She shows me a couple techniques and tells me to practice on a punching bag. After a while, she comes up and tells me, "You don't have much muscle." I give her a glare.

She rolls her eyes and continues, "which means you're better off using your knees and elbows. You can put more power behind them. Don't worry, eventually you'll get more muscle." I shrug and continue hitting the bag. She sighs and puts her hand on my stomach. I freeze then. Then Tris says, "Never forget to keep tension here." I don't move until she walks away.

After I finish practicing, she tells me to wait and let her make sure no one's out there. I don't really see why anyone would be out this late instead of sleeping, but I agree. She returns and nods, saying the coast is clear. Tris takes my hand and leads me out. I don't understand why she needs to take my hand, but her hand feels nice to hold. I didn't notice before, but her hand is small, well her entire body is small. Suddenly, we end up in…the cafeteria? She looks at me and says, "I figured you would be hungry after all that training." I feel my stomach grumble, and I nod. She smiles. She tells me to wait at a table while she goes to get some food.

When Tris returns, she has something on a tray. The only thing I know that's on the tray is that it has bread on the top and bottom with…vegetables and something brown in the middle. She sets it down in front of me and laughs at my confused look. "It's a burger," she says. She sees my confused look, lets out a small laugh, and puts something red on top of the brown thing. As if reading my mind, she explains, "The brown thing is meat." I look at it one last time and bite into it. It's good. She laughs and says, "You're doing even worse than I did when I first came here." After I finish, she hands me something else brown. Without needing to look at my puzzled expression, she says, "It's cake." She puts takes a scoop of it and tells me to try it. I look at it and take a bite.

I finished the whole thing within a minute.

After I finish eating, she hands me my clothes to change. Since no one's here, I can go and change in the restroom. I finish changing, and she says, "Come back tomorrow, so you can practice some more." I nod and say, "See you tomorrow!"
