Authors Note: So it's time for excuses for why it took forever. Anyway, I work at Subway. We had like three people quit last month. So that hindered my writing because I had to pick up hours. Then this stupid twofer Tuesday thing happened this month and I got butt fucked with customers. So there's that. And I have some emotional crap going on so yeah. Also I didn't really like how his turned out or how it was turning out. So I kept trying to rework it but alas. But I give you the best I could do. So sorry in advance.

Hiccup looked at the houses he passed from the passenger seat of his dad's SUV. It was thanksgiving and they were on their way over to his Uncle's house. Hiccup rested his head against the window and let out a sigh. He really didn't want to go over there after the fight he and Scott got into. He wondered if Scott told his dad what happened. Probably not. He hasn't heard anything about it. Hiccup's mind wandered back to that dram he had last week. It baffled him. Did he really choke himself in his sleep? Luckily it didn't leave any noticeable marks so he dodged a bullet there. He didn't want to have to explain that to his dad. Finally the vehicle came to a stop in a driveway. Hiccup opened his door and climbed out of the car. He and his dad then walked up to the door and rang the doorbell. A few seconds later Hiccup's Aunt opened the door.
"Henry! Jerry! Its good to see you," she said pulling them both into a hug. She then looked at Hiccup and smiled. "Welcome back Henry. Its good to see you."
Hiccup smiled back. "Thanks Aunt Kathy," he said taking a step inside. They then walked into the living room to see everyone sitting on the couch watching the football game. He noticed Scott giving him a dirty look as he ventured further into the room.
"Ah. Good to see you Henry," his uncle said returning his attention to the television.
"You too Uncle Stuart," Hiccup sad as he took a seat on the couch. He could still feel the look Scott was giving him. Hiccup turned his attention to the TV. Hiccup didn't know anything about football. It never captured his attention. It was the Denver Broncos vs the Green Bay Packers, he knew that at least. His dad took a seat next to his uncle and the two began chatting about the game and what he missed. After a few minutes his uncle spoke up.
"So Henry. Where have you been?"
It was only a matter of time before this question was came up. Hiccup tuned to look at his uncle. Hiccup scratched the back of his head and let out a nervous sigh. "Uh well you see, I left and joined the Army," he said as he looked to the floor.
The whole room grew silent. Hiccup could tell his dad was smiling under his beard. "You were in the Army?" His uncle finally said.
"Well I still am. I go back in about two and a half weeks," Hiccup said as he looked back up.
"Go back where though?" His aunt asked him.
Hiccup let out a sight. "Well back to Afghanistan to finish deployment there. I still have about another five or six months there," they all then look at Hiccup like he's grown a second head. He notices that Scott looks the most surprised.
"So wait you've been to Afghanistan? Where we are fighting a war and everyone hates us?" His uncle asked looking surprised.
"Well they don't all hate us. Some are actually quite nice. Hell we fight along side the Afghan Military," Hiccup explained.
Finally Scott decided to chime in. "But CNN says..."
"CNN doesn't know what the fuck they're talking about," Hiccup said interrupting his cousin. The whole room fell silent. The only sound was the football game on the television. Hiccup then released a sigh. "But it is still pretty hellish over there. You can be thrown into a firefight at any second. And those take a lot out of you."
The room was still silent. "So you've been in one, right?" Scott said breaking the silence. Hiccup just nodded in response. "So, have you killed anyone?" Hiccup then just lunged forward and punched Scott square in the face. "What the hell!" Scott yelled holding his face while everyone just stared at Hiccup. He wore and angry scowl on his face.
"Why the hell would you ask someone that!" Hiccup yelled at his cousin.
"It was a question! There's no need to punch me!" He yelled back.
"Yeah a question that you're not supposed to ask!" There was a short silence. Hiccup finally calmed down and sat down on the couch. "Can we not talk about the military?" Hiccup asked to no one specifically, sound slightly desperate. With that said everyone turned their attention back to something else. Hiccup looked at the television, vaguely paying attention enough to know Denver scored a touchdown. Everyone in the living room began to cheer when the player crossed into the end zone.
After about a half hour, everyone was called to the table for dinner. Everyone took their seats and began to dig in. Not much was said except for the standard "hey can you pass the stuffing" or the occasional yell at the TV over a bad call by the referees. Everyone migrated back to the living room. And took a seat on the couch after dinner. As Hiccup sat there, He couldn't help but think how foreign this felt to him. Three weeks ago he was eating meals out of a vacuum sealed bag and now hes sitting on a comfy couch after a large properly cooked meal. Something he took for granted on more than one occasion. It felt nice. Hiccup smiled at the thought as he sunk further into the couch and closed his eyes.
He didn't know how long he was asleep, but soon after closing his eyes his dad shook him awake. "Henry. Wake up. Its time to go," he said as he turned back to look at the others. "Well it was fun. Thanks for having us," Stoick said with a smile.
"Thanks for coming. It was good seeing you both," Kathy said with a smile.
Hiccup just waved in response, still waking up from his little nap. The two then walked out of the house and got in the SUV to go home.
When they finally got home Hiccup walked into the living room and took a seat on the couch. His dad followed closely behind and sat in his recliner. "So uh, that was nice. You know, to see the family," Stoick began trying to start a conversation with his son. Hiccup just shrugged in response. "I never knew you had that in you though."
Hiccup turned his gaze to his dad and gave him a confused look. "What?"
Stoick let out a small chuckle. "You know, when you clocked Scott right in the jaw."
Hiccup chuckled at the thought as well. "Yeah. I guess. You just don't say that stuff." Hiccup turned so he was fully facing his dad.
"So, how long until you go back?"
"About a week," Hiccup said as his gaze dropped to the floor.
His dad gave him a confused look. "I thought you said you'd be here for about a month?"
"Well I got a call from my sergeant last night." Hiccup let out a sigh before continuing. "Apparently our new squad member will be there early. So we have to go and get him all set up and ready."
"Oh. Well good luck then." Stoick then stood up and stretched. "Well you got a nap in. I didn't. So I'm going to get some sleep. Night Henry." He then walked out of the room and up the stairs.
"Night dad." Hiccup spent the next hour or so just looking out the window until getting up to go to bed.

Hiccup was now standing in the airport saying goodbye to everyone he came to see him off. "So son, be careful over there. Don't get hurt and keep your head down."
Hiccup just waved him off. "Yes dad. I know," he said rolling his eyes. He looked over and saw Scott standing there with his aunt and uncle. He walked up to Scott and held out his hand. "So uh, sorry about punching you Scott. No hard feelings right?"
Scott's scowl grew to a small smile. "Yeah. Sure cuz. Don't do anything stupid," he said as he shook Hiccup's hand.
Hiccup smiled. "That goes double for you." This felt like a small victory to him. Maybe there was a chance he and Scott could be on good terms. He then looked to his aunt and Uncle. "Goodbye you guys."
They both smiled in return and his aunt pulled him into a hug. "Please be careful Henry."
"I will don't worry," he said with a smile. He then felt a punch to his arm and turned to see Astrid.
"You better Skype me," she said as she pulled him into a hug.
Hiccup just laughed. "Don't worry. I will. I can't promise it will be often though."
"Whatever. A little bit will suffice." She smiled before whispering in his ear. "Just don't get shot again. Okay?"
A soft smile spread across Hiccup's face. "Okay." With that he broke the hug and grabbed his bag off the floor. He then began to walk towards his terminal. Hiccup decided to turn around and take on last look at everybody. He smiled as he continued on his way. It felt good to have something to finally come back to.
