Chapter 11: R

Okay for one: I am so sorry for not keeping my little promise I said like 2 weeks ago! I said I would update my stories for the whole week, but instead I didn't do that at all! And I'm so sorry!

Two: I think my New Year's resolution has gone out the window. I have no time to actually sit at a computer and update so I am constantly trying my hardest to write! I love writing, but there is so much going on that I can't even sit down to type.

So I sincerely apologize for not updating any of my chapters for so long. Sorry guys!

But you know what? Here is another chapter for the week. I will try my very best to get in more updates. I promise I will do my very, very best!

Disclaimer: I don't own anything but my own story.

Pepper stood very still. She had her arms straight down her side and her hands clenched very tightly. She kept her eyes trained on her mom, making no eye contact to the gun mindlessly resting by Janice's thigh. "Janice." Pepper said quietly.

Her mother stared back, not a single smile hinting on her face. "Patricia." Janice looked down at the gun and spun to look at the many computer monitors behind her. "I'm guessing you're here to stop me? Or maybe escape?" The computer monitors illuminated many scenes of the house and the city.

Pepper remained silent. Her eyes continued to stray on the gun in her mother's hand. She was wary of the violence that had happen for some time now. Her mother was capable of anything. And Pepper knew that any breath could be her last.

"I am your mother, Patricia. I have done things, many things. I've also killed many people: Tony's mother, your father, some FBI, some CIA, some secret service. I know what to do, and I know what I have to do." Janice turned on again, looking Pepper straight in the eyes. "And I know Tony is not right for you."

Pepper resisted the urge to shake her head, and roll her eyes. "You don't know him the way I do, Janice. You only judge him because of what Howard did to you!"

Janice's eyes suddenly darkened. Her mouth twitched in annoyance or anger. "You do know what Howard did right? Do you have any idea what he did to me?"

Pepper instantly noticed that the gun had risen to Janice's waist; the barrel was pointed at Pepper's stomach. If she was shot, it would definitely be fatal.

So playing her cards right, she answered, "I only know that he dumped you to have Maria. Who is Tony's mother." She waited a beat. "That you killed." Pepper added.

Janice smiled. "He promised to be with me for the rest of my life, Patricia. He said that no woman meant the same to him. And when Maria came along? Those promises, those lies, went out the window." Pepper felt an itch. That didn't explain why her mother attacked and killed her father. It didn't explain her psychotic behavior.

"I killed your father because he was Howard's most trusted friend. Tony is Howard's son. The FBI, CIA, and Secret Service? They were Howard's friends and protectors for any of his international meetings. Each person had a connection to Howard." Janice said with a sneer. The gun was now held out, directly hovering in front of Pepper's chest.

Pepper remained as calm as possible. "So revenge. That's what this is all about?" When Janice smiled, Pepper moved onto the next question. "So why me? Why is the gun inches from my chest mother?" It was the first time she used that term, but it didn't mean that she meant it.

Janice's calm composure shifted into place, replacing the anger and resentment beneath. "You 'love' Tony. And well, Tony's father is Howards, and you're dating the very boy whose father is the man that I fell in love with." Pepper felt a lump coming up her throat.

So instead of making any snarky remark, she just had to get straight to the point. "So you're going to kill me?"

"I am going to have to kill you." Janice replied.

Tony was really in disbelief. Janice had no right to use his old house as her spy ground. So Pepper was inside her mother's house, and even worse, it was the house that was supposed to have been forgotten. And now? He had to go back to the very house he chose to forget.

"I have to remember everything that ever happened, huh mom?" He said. And with that small comment, he made his way to his armor. As the cargo door opened to reveal his red and gold suit, Tony was starting to rethink the possibility that Janice was actually in the very building she murdered his mother. The suit opened up, sensing that its pilot has come closer to it.

Tony left a quick message for Rhodey, should he come to the armory while he was away. Tony stepped into his suit and instantly shot into the air. His armor used mind sensors to quickly get the destination that the pilot wanted to go to.

"Yeah, I know. We have to go there again." Tony said. He was instantly soaring through the Manhattan skies and towards the rural rich houses that he used to live in.

Tony looked down at the streets and watched the cars zoom by the roads. It was hard to believe that this world had to have the worst people. Innocent lives could be changed within minutes because of one death, because of one shooting, or because of one kidnap. Tony knew he had to stop Janice.

While he was in the armory, Tony had time to piece together Janice's plot. He figured out that each person she murdered had connections to his father. His mother was his father's wife, and Virgil was his father's best friend and only trusted friend. Janice wanted revenge, and it seemed that she would kill anyone until his father was the last she killed.

But he also realized that Pepper was in danger. She was dating him, so even being Janice's daughter; her connection to Tony would mean that she was in the line of fire. Tony still couldn't wrap his mind around the fact that Janice would actually murder her own daughter because of revenge.

With a shake of his head, Tony urged his Mark 2 armor to continue forward with a faster speed. "Computer, give me visual map reference for Pepper Potts position." He said. When the red blinker continued to glow at the very spot, Tony felt his spirits rise. Maybe this is it. He could get her back.

Pepper dove behind the desk as another bullet ricocheted off the wall beside her. "Janice! Stop!" She shouted. Pepper readjusted her position and peeked from her hiding spot. She saw her mother sweeping the gun back and forth each corner and potential hiding spots.

"Sweetheart, I just want to make this quick. It'll be over before you know it." Janice said with a smile. She flicked a strand of her rich auburn hair out of her eyes. Her dark grey eyes swiveled faster than her gun, taking in her surroundings.

Pepper leaned her back against the desk, knowing that her mother would find her eventually. She had to have seen her dive under it. It seemed impossible that she wouldn't have seen him. "Patricia, come on out sweetheart. The faster you do this, the faster I can move on to my next target." Janice slowed down her pace and began moving on the balls of her feet. She was trying to listen for Pepper.

"Who would that be?" Pepper half shouted. Janice swiveled in the direction of the desk, her gun raised and a smirk rising on her features.

"I believe you know who I am talking about, honey. Killing you would draw him here, and then I'll just kill two birds with one stone."

Pepper choked back her disbelief. "You want to kill Tony. You're kidding right? You are psychotic! All because Howard decided to marry Maria 25 years ago!" And before she knew it, two pairs of legs came into view before her. She held her breath, waiting for anything to happen.

Without hesitation, Pepper lashed out with her legs, swiping her legs out to catch her mother's. Janice obviously didn't see it coming because she let out a yelp as she fell to the floor.

Scrambling out, Pepper jumped on top of Janice, holding back her arms to prevent the gun from pointing at her. "Get off!" Janice shouted. Pepper yelled out when she felt her mother's knee contact with her back.

Pepper leaned in, putting all her strength into her upper body to push her mother's arms to the floor. But she didn't know every technique that her mother knew as a secret service agent. Her mother dropped the gun, twisted her wrist and pushed against the downward force.

Instantly, Janice came free and kicked out. Her foot made contact with Pepper's stomach, completely pushing off her daughter from her own body. Janice frantically searched for the gun that had tumbled out of her hands. "I shouldn't have dropped it." She cursed. Janice looked back to see Pepper getting to her feet.

"AH!" Pepper screamed and threw herself on her mother once more. But what she didn't see was that she had pushed her mother right next to her gun. And with another punch to the face, Pepper was sprawled out on the floor again.

Janice rose to her feet, gun out in front of her. "Sorry, sweetheart, I really wished you would've cooperated with me better."

Pepper wiped the small trickle of blood from her split lip. "You didn't even care about me, mom. You're about ready to kill me, and for what?"

Janice's smile wavered. It was almost as though she was starting to consider the stupidity of her actions. But she still raised the gun and pointed it at her daughter's head. "I'm sorry." She said.

But even before she could pull the trigger a loud boom and a flash of red and gold threw her off her feet. "Attention psychotic lady! You're toast."

Whoo! This story is starting to come to an end? Maybe? Either way I hope you guys like this chapter! It has a bit more description and details including some action for you! Thanks for reading and putting up with this story!
