9 Months Later;
Steve couldn't help but smile when he walked into the living room to see his wife laying on the couch. The fact that she was on the couch wasn't what made him smile. It was how she was sitting. Her legs were up against the back and her head was hanging off the cushions. A book was in her hands and papers were spread across the coffee table. A bag of twizzlers were on the couch next to her with one hanging out of her mouth.
"What are you reading?" He asked and sat next to her.
"The big book of photography basics for beginners." She responded with a yawn.
"How did your day go?"
"Fine." Angel answered and swung her legs over to lay them across his lap. He immediately started rubbing her feet. "Boring."
Steve smiled at the young woman with pride. His wife was taking life a lot easier now. She had found a passion again he couldn't help but love her even more. Looking down at her ringing phone, she smiled at the picture of her father.
"Hey daddy."
"Hi sweetheart. Are you busy?"
"No. Whats up?"
"There's a situation. Can you and Steve meet us at HQ?"
She looked at Steve oddly when she hung up.
"Dad wants to meet us at HQ. Said there's some sort of situation."
"Well lets go."
Angel and Steve strolled into HQ 10 minutes later and Angel immediately gave her father a hug.
"Hey Richard. Been a while." She said to one of the men with her dad.
"Hey kid. How have you been?" He asked and shook hers and Steve's hands.
"Good. So whats up?"
"You remember my boss Bruce?" Andrew motioned to his superior.
"Sir." She nodded and watched as her father typed a few things into the computer. Dead bodies popped up on the screen and Angel grimaced.
"Each one of these men have been murdered. Execution style. And we have reason to believe they were killed by the order of..." Andrew said and anger hit Angel like a freight train when the next picture popped up.
"Keahi Konapiliahi."
"Each of these victims were testifying against him." Richard told them.
"Makes sense that he would be taking them out. His trial is coming up. No witnesses, no sentencing. He would walk a free man." Steve determined with a shake of his head.
"What do you need us to do?" Angel said, giving her father a stern look.
"Kekoa Konapiliahi is also slated to testify. But we've had trouble contacting the Marshals on duty. Granted the weather isn't the greatest up there but still." Bruce added.
"You need someone to retrieve him?"
"Five-O is the best. Plus this was your case. We wanted to give you first dibs." Andrew smiled to his daughter and son in law. Angel and Steve gave each other a look before she spoke.
"When do I leave?"
Steve's smile faded quickly and he gave her a frown.
"What do you mean 'I'"
"Three hours. Meet us at Hickam." Richard nodded and started to leave. "Oh and pack warm. North Dakota is cold this time of year."
Angel sighed as she packed a bag. Steve was not letting it go that she was going alone.
"Steve come on. I think I've heard enough."
"No. I don't think you have." He argued and folded his arms over his chest. "I don't want you going by yourself. What if you got hurt?"
"I'm a big girl Steve. I can take care of myself."
"Angel."
"Steve listen. I need you to stay and run things from here. And to help dad with any other problems they may have." She told him and wrapped her arms around his waist. Puckering out her bottom lip, she gave him her best pouty, puppy dog look.
"I'm not looking at you. I know what your doing."
"I'm not doing anything. I swear." She said sweetly and batted her eyes at him when he finally looked down. Rolling his eyes and giving a sigh, he hugged her in return.
"Fine. But if you get hurt I'm kicking your ass."
Angel laughed at her husband before he captured her in a passionate kiss. Twelve hours, approximately 3,600 miles, and three layoffs later Angel zipped her coat up against the bitter Rugby, North Dakota weather.
"Screw this. I'm going back to Hawaii." She mumbled as she followed Richard to a waiting vehicle.
"Cold yet?" He asked with a smirk and laughed when her middle finger was directed toward him.
"Why the hell would someone agree to live like this?"
"Kekoa didn't want to live in a big city. He requested a small place. Rugby has a couple thousand citizens. The last time I spoke to him, he was enjoying himself quite a bit. Even started going to college a couple towns over." Richard told her. She nodded in response and cowered into her coat while she waited for the heat from the car to warm her. A buzzing in her pocket stirred her from her frozen trance and she smiled when she read the message from Steve.
Hope you landed safely. Be safe. Call when you can.
She didn't get to reply as they had already arrived at a small house on the outskirts of town. It was a small home. Woods surrounded the yard behind it and Angel nodded in approval. If she was ever to leave the island, this would probably be the type of home she would want. Minus the freezing weather. They walked up the steps to find the door slightly open and bullet holes everywhere. Angel drew her gun immediately.
She crept into the house slowly, seeing bodies strewn across the floor. Blood splatter had dried to the walls and floor. The bodies were still slightly warm despite the frigid air so it hadn't been long since the attack. Richard tapped her on the shoulder and she nodded as they branched off to search the rest of the home. The bathroom and bedroom were clear and she was headed into the kitchen when a shadow overtook her.
Angel struggled against the figure but was starting to lose. Picking up a canister off the kitchen counter, she smashed her foot into the attackers and swung the canister at his head when she was loosened. He stumbled back and bit and she helped him to the ground by sending a kick to his face. The man landed with a thud and she retrieved her gun to point it at him quickly.
"Five-O. Don't move."
"Why the hell is Five-O all the way out here?' the man grumbled as he rubbed his chin. Angel shook her head and offered a hand to the fallen man. Kekoa accepted the help with a nod as he stood.
"Here saving your ass that's what." She answered with a shake of her head as she holstered her weapon.
"Sorry about that. Thought you were someone else."
"Its fine. You do the damage in there?" She asked and motioned to the living room.
"Yeah. They came in last night. Killed one of my handlers in town. Then came here. I managed to get out of the way but still caught a graze when they shot the place up." He told her and showed her his bandaged arm. "My brother hired them."
"That's what we figured. We have other witnesses, dead, back home."
"Damn. You had better be watching your back as well. He'll be coming for you." Kekoa warned her.
"He already tried taking me out once. Obviously it didn't work."
"That doesn't mean he wont try again." He argued.
"God you sound like my husband."
Kekoa stopped his next thought when she said husband.
"So you went through with it?"
"Been over a year now." She smiled as she thought of Steve. Then got back on track when Richard came in the room. "Get a bag ready. We need to get out of here."
"He alright?" Richard asked. Angel nodded and walked toward the dead bodies.
"He got lucky that's for sure." Richard stayed silent as she examined a body. "I just cant figure out how they found him though."
She looked through the pockets and smiled when she found a wallet. Opening it, she froze when a badge shined from her flashlight. U.S. Marshals. She remembered her father telling her only a handful of people knew Kekoa's location.
"We will have to look into that when we get back."
Angel slowly rose to her feet and turned to see a gun pointing in her direction.
"That is, if you even make it back."
