Chapter 11
"A table for two," He flashes a small smirk at me as he asks the smart waiter, "Please"
Date? A DATE? Psh, he's really enjoying himself, isn't he?
I cross my arms and tap my foot in annoyance; notcibaly.
Not only that, he decides to take me to some high street restaurant that is fancy and posh.
This makes me feel so out of place, I never go to places like this.
Besides...
I glance around at the many tables for two.
This place is for couples. And just because Kuso decided to put on a little act for my Mom – which did in fact save my ass – BUT that's besides the point because it doesn't mean we're a couple and nor should we act like one in public.
I glare at him as we are led to a small table for two, Dan sits opposite me as the waiter lays out the menus.
God, just look at that dam smirk.
This is all going perfectly.
I mean, I bet a guy has never taken her to eat some real dinner. I mean she's gotta be impressed!
I know, how smooth can a guy be?
She's gonna love it, I just know it. But then again, she ain't normal.
Whatever, she can't keep up her little 'hard - to - get' game.
All I see is her glaring at me, like it's hella hard to keep that intense glare.
"You're allowed to smile you know." I remark casually as I open the menu and scan to see what I fancy today.
"Why did you take me here?" She asks.
I drop the menu down a little, to face her, "Don't you like it?"
"Well...I just feel..." She admits reluctantly as she looks around, "Uncomfortable..."
"Besides," She tries to sound a little confident but I can tell she's nervous, "This place is for couples."
"Well," I smile, "We are on a date, right?"
"Not a real date." Runo says bluntly.
"Go say that to your Mom." I whisper victoriously to her.
She looks away with a 'Hmph.' and picks up her menu to occupy herself.
Dan wins.
"Anyway, is that why you don't like it here?" I ask curiously as I lean closer to her.
"Hm?" She doesn't spare a glance; whilst observing the menu.
"You said you were uncomfortable right?" I say, "Is it cos you never been to a place like this?"
"You said you were uncomfortable right?" He reminds, "Is it cos you never been to a place like this?"
He says proudily, as though I should be impressed. I just continue reading down the menu;
'ROYAL OSSETRA CAVIAR
Maine Sea Urchin, White Truffle, "Sablé" and Sicilian Pistachio'
What even is that? It's like another language - Literally:
MOULARD DUCK "FOIE GRAS EN TERRINE"
Celery Branch, Pecans, Honey-Poached Cranberries and Black Winter Truffles
Honey-poached Cranberries?
No thanks.
"Devil's Gulch Ranch Rabbit Sirloin?" I cringe, "Confit Grapefruit, French Laundry Garden Fennel, Baby Red Beets and Piedmont Hazelnuts"
"Dan," I sigh and lay down the menu, "What even is this?"
"It's real 5 star quality food." He claims.
"To be honest," I start, "I'm good with a Burger and chips."
"Wow, classy." He says sarcastically.
The waiter comes over, "Are you ready to order?"
"Yes," Dan starts,
"I'd like the Royal Ossetra Caviar and the Sweet Butter-Poached Main Lobster Tail, oh and for later the Alpaco Mousse au Chocolat."
He smoothly lists, what sounds like the whole menus; I'm stunned that he didn't stutter in his sentence at all.
"And for you Madame?" The waiter asks me.
"Well, I-" I desperately look over the menu.
"For my love, could you get the Elysian Fields Farm Lamb Rib-Eye." Dan says with a smirk.
Well, I understood Lamb.
The waiter then takes the menu and hurries away.
"How do you even pronounce the name so fluently?" I ask, "And why don't they just say it's Lamb instead of writing a whole paragraph for the name of the dish?"
"Heh, I have this a lot when the I go out for dinners. It's normal," He shrugs, "But I noticed you never been to a place like this."
This only reminds me of how different Dan and I are.
"So, why are you uncomfortable?" Dan pries, "Is it because everyone around is posh and classy?"
"Well...yeah, just look." I glance around.
"Forget about them," He tells me, "Just pretend you're just with me."
I look him dead straight in the eye,
"Like that's any better."
She looks at me with a deadly cold gaze,
"Like that's any better."
Ouch.
But I still don't get it.
"But don't you like it?" I frown in question, "Most girls would feel over the moon going to a place like this - not to mention with Dan Kuso."
"Yeah, but, Dan," She looks at me seriously, sincerely, "I don't need to be taken to fancy restaurants or be bought expensive gifts to make me happy."
I stare at the wonderous girl for a moment.
"So they don't make you happy?" I squint at the weirdness of that, "Not at all?"
"No you doofus!" She snaps and then takes a breath, "I'm not won over by superficial things. Sure they're nice and all, but I don't need this to be happy."
I process - I'm at a lost for words.
"No you doofus!" I say in annoyance then take a deep breath to compose myself, "I'm not won over by superficial things. Sure they're nice and all, but I don't need this to be happy."
Which is true, I have friends, family and shelter. I don't need to live an extravagant life.
He stares at me in realization, maybe finally he's understanding...
"Oh yeah-No...I still don't get it."
