Chapter 11: Announcements
Her throat went dry when she saw him, and in the most unlikely of places as well. There were many times in which Kagome had told herself that she would be fine meeting Kurama, he was a thing in the past, and the things that she would or might say if they were to meet again. However seeing him now, left her stumped, speechless as to what to say. Yuuichi Hitokiri her new co-worker was the one to draw her attention away as the media's attention look between her and Kurama and now to Yuuichi. Questions flew as they questioned her on who he was and their past together, some of them however recognized him, and were quick to provide a name as it seem to struck Kagome in her heart every time she hears his name.
Kagome smiled at the media, diverting their attention away as she mentioned more hints of the collaboration with Yuuichi, and the hours that they were putting in together. The questions rose again as she put on a façade for the media and everyone gathered there, but inside, she was shaking mixed in so much emotion that she was unsure of how to react. In her mind as the media was dispersing, Kagome remained by Yuuichi's side well aware that Kurama's eyes were trained onto her and it made her shudder. Seemingly noticing her shiver, Yuuichi had shown his concern for her, placing an arm around her waist as he asked if she was cold and perhaps his jacket. It was not the chill that feared Kagome, instead it was the thought of talking to Kurama after so many months and years that she was afraid of her own reaction.
When she had first met Yuuichi, Kagome had thought the name resembled closely to that of Shuichi and it more than often made her feel somewhat scared and almost fearful of the bad memories that it might recall. Though it proved her otherwise once she had meet the other, he was a friendly person with outrageous cream tea color hair that was stylishly cut and styled to suit his image, and was a more fun person with quite a reputation of his own that many warned her against him. And he put her at ease despite of his many reputations and many rumors about him flying about in their writing scene. And somehow they were both in sync with many ideas when they came together to brainstorm of what was to come, which was rather rare seeing as how many other writers there are out there wanting to have total control over the whole story. He was in a way a good distraction for her mind, especially with how it would lapse back into thinking of her past relationship.
She had only recently thought that she was finally over Kurama, and how her life was on track, and better than what she had originally expected as well. However seeing him now, everything came undone and she was left broken hearted by the betrayal. If she was to talk to him now, she do not know of how her reaction would be or even how if she would be able to reaction at all without breaking down. Kurama saw how she was avoiding him, always seeking out others or even to stick so annoyingly close to the male co-worker. Enough was enough after he had reached his limit, watching her flit about before of his eyes, but never towards him. It was like dangling a juicy rabbit before of him, and he was unable to feast on it.
He saw her with Yuuichi as always and stalked towards them as casually as he could, looking as composed as he could be. Kurama saw that Kagome had already taken note of him and seemed ready to bolt, there was fear in her eyes, and she was ready to bolt. However before she could do anything he reached them and his eyes were fixed on her despite of how he was introducing himself to the other male, and then it was Kagome's turn. His eyes almost softened, hurt, jealousy, possessiveness all returning to him. She was finally back to
"Hello Kagome," he whispered, taking a few more steps closer to her, trying his best to resist holding her against him or to feel her lips again.
She was not replying him, and that other male, Yuuichi was starting to look between then suspiciously. He whispered into Kagome's ears if she wanted to get away from him, but instead she looked away in his direction and whispered back something too low for Kurama to hear.
"I'm sorry but we're needed else where," Kagome mentioned in a strained strangled voice as Yuuichi took that as the cue to lead her away with a questioning look at the other, but one that spoke of his own concern as well.
"Can we perhaps talk after this party?" he asked smoothly too smoothly for her liking, and it annoyed her how cool he was playing it at the moment, always the image of calm and charm.
Kagome did not reply, a pained looked in her eyes as she glared at him heatedly before turning away from him as Yuuichi followed by her side too closely. Kurama swore under his breath, he was that close to talking to her again, perhaps iron things out so that they could have another fresh start. He drank himself silly in the bar despite knowing that it will not make him drunk with the amount of alcohol within it. He had perhaps broken a few glasses here and there when he thought of Kagome again and had accidentally held the glass to tightly to cause it to break under his grip.
He however never kept his attention away from Kagome, watching her with such concentration that it scared a few people away. It was more than enough and the time was starting to get late as he saw some people already leaving the party. Kurama stalked back up to Kagome, this time he was not going to let her say no to what he had to request, he just had to talk to her after waiting for so long. She was as always avoiding him, and as soon as she found out he was coming towards her like a charging bull. She hated putting Yuuichi in a position and had continuously used him as a shield despite of his telling her that he wanted to help her, it still made her feel bad. Again Yuuichi was by her side, helping her as he smiled and be her pillar of support.
