Chapter 10: my time has come.
The tryout for the lacrosse team finished just a few minutes ago. The coach was ready to say the players that made it into the team and to send home the ones who fail. The tension could be felt in the air, even the people in the grandstands were nervous about the results.
"Alright, listen up everybody. Right here in my hand, I have the list of the players that made it, and among the ones who made it, there's also some of them that made it straight to first line and positions were already chosen for some of them. And finally, something I didn't want to do today, but I might have ended up doing anyway, I already choose the new captain of the lacrosse team of this year" said the coach with a serious tone. Scott was really confident about him, Stiles and maybe even Isaac getting in the first line. But what he wasn't expecting was that maybe he would become captain or co-captain so soon in this timeline. Jackson on his side was confident that he would become captain.
"do you think we made it?" asked Stiles a little nervous. Isaac rolled his eyes.
"are you kidding me? With the plays you made and some of your results you must be at least one of the ones that made it first line, I should be the one freaking out here" said Isaac in a harsh tone but still just barely above a whisper. Scott could see the reaction of Emily and Cora to Isaac words since both have improved hearing they could listen to everything they are saying.
"Oh, I'm sorry if I can't stop myself from feeling..." said Stiles louder than he pretended, so, he got the attention of the rest of the players and the coach.
"BILINSKI!" yelled the coach getting Isaac and Stiles attention.
"yes, coach?" said Stiles a little nervous.
"shut up!" at the words of the coach everyone started to laugh, even Isaac was laughing at Stiles. Scott only stays in his position with a little smile on his face.
"could we get back to the names of the people who made it?" said Jackson with a serious and demanding tone, he was obviously a little irritated. Scott and Stiles rolled their eyes.
"Alright, the people I call will be the ones who made it to the team. If your name is not called, then you can go home and cry to your mother" said the coach with a little scowl. Some of the players slightly laugh at the coach words.
"Jackson! You made it. Danny!, you are on the team. Both of you made it first line" said the coach after calling two of the best players.
"that was obvious" said Jackson with a confident smile while the coach continues saying names.
"great job Danny, you deserve to be first line" said Scott with a gentle smile. Danny smiled at him.
"thanks and I hope you also made it to first line, you deserve it" said Danny to Scott and both shake hands. Jackson saw this and he gave Danny a look. Danny only sighs and give an apologetic look to Scott before moving slightly away from him.
"that Jackson is definitely a douche" said a short girl behind Scott. Scott only smiled at the comment of the girl.
"McCall! Good job. Bilinski! Barely made it. Lahey! Not so bad. McCall and Bilinski made it to first line. Lahey, I want to see how you do in the practices and during the first matches, but for now, you made it to first line" said coach. The 3 boys light up immediately and they started to smile and pat each other in congratulations while the coach continues calling people.
"god, that was so close" said Stiles with a smile. While hugging Scott.
"I can't believe I made it" said Isaac very excited, once Stiles release Scott, Isaac also hugged him. From the bleachers, they could hear Boyd and Erica congratulating the 3 boys.
"this is great. Now we only need to consolidate our positions in the team. And by the way, Isaac, if you want, you can come to our practices with Derek and Laura, it will take a while to get used to it, but once you do, trust me when I tell you that you will improve a lot" said Scott while patting Isaac's shoulder, Isaac seemed very happy and thanked Scott for the support.
"and finally. I can't believe that I'm about to say this. Greenberg! You made it first line. For the love of god, don't make me regret this" said the coach with a tired expression and looking up at the sky.
"YES!" everyone turns around to see a young girl jumping with excitement. Scott only smiled at the sight of her and how when she wanted to run and hug the coach, he just raises his hand to stop her, of course, she didn't stop smiling and clapping her hands.
It was funny, Scott remembered that in his previous life, Greenberg was the only woman in the team before Kira made it, but she was often treated like a boy, she was like the little and annoying brother that everyone likes but still they messed with him. Everyone in the lacrosse team would often refer to her as he, despite the fact that she was clearly a woman, also, she would use the men change room despite coach constant insistence that she needed to use the women change room, at the end he gave up, and since no one acted like Greenberg was a girl but they saw her more as a little brother, no one had any problem with that. Something that no one knew during their time in Beacon Hills High School was that Greenberg was the daughter of Coach Finstock. Of course, he didn't know about this until a few years after Greenberg graduated from high school. However, Greenberg always knew that she was coach Finstock daughter, which was the reason why she always was so happy and willing to do things for him and give him gifts, despite coach constant words of hate towards her, it also was the reason why she entered the lacrosse team in the first place, since she wasn't that good, but she wanted to spend some time with her father. The story says that coach Finstock had a relationship that didn't end up well, his ex-cheated on him with another man with the last name Greenberg (the reason why the coach constantly says that he hates Greenberg) but neither of them knew that she was pregnant with the coach's daughter. Also, something that they never knew was that Greenberg was a supernatural creature, she was a kind of bird, with claws and wings, the coach knew this since Greenberg told him when she entered high school, for that reason coach knew about supernatural creatures even before Scott and his friends, but since he made a promise to Greenberg to not tell anyone, he tried to keep himself away from any kind of contact with supernatural creatures other than Greenberg who he was actually trying to protect. Despite his promise to Greenberg about keeping her secret and get away from the supernatural, he still helped Scott and his friends a few times, but he never told them that he knew the truth. Finally, Greenberg died in the future just a few months after she married a blonde werewolf woman that she met in college, by this point the coach already knew that she was his daughter and he was the one who gives her to her werewolf future wife. The coach was devastated when he received the news that his only daughter and her wife were killed just a little time after they married, and that's how he ended up helping Scott and his friends to fight the war in the future. Coach would never admit to anyone, but he really wanted to see his daughter one more time, and when coach told Scott that he should enter the lacrosse team again, it had a hidden message, the message was to make everything better, not only for the team but also for the coach and his daughter.
"hey Greenberg, congratulations" said Scott with a smile while raising his hand to give five to her. When Greenberg notice what Scott wanted, she smiled and give him five.
"thanks Scott, you did an amazing job in the tryouts. You were literally the best player" said the girl with a big smile while moving in her spot. Scott only smiled at Greenberg excitement.
"thanks for the compliment. But, if you don't mind me asking, when will you tell him?" asked Scott in a soft and low voice while getting closer to her so no one will hear them.
"tell what to who?" asked she a little confused and nervous.
"to the coach, that... you know, you are his daughter" said Scott as low as possible, speaking to Greenberg hear. She tenses up immediately.
"what? I don't know what you are talking about, pf... like if that was possible" said Greenberg completely nervous and not even looking at Scott.
"don't worry, your secret is safe with me. Just tell him when you are ready, but not too late, a lot of things can happen and you don't want to regret not telling him" said Scott in a soft and tender voice. Greenberg lifts her head and saw the reassuring smile on Scott's face, she also smiled and nodded her head.
"thank you" said the girl barely above a whisper, but her smile was really big and show perfectly her emotions.
"McCall! stop flirting with Greenberg and come here, both of you" said the coach irritated. Greenberg started to laugh and Scott only smiled giving her a signal so both would walk to the rest. Somehow Scott knew that Greenberg was happy to see her father's reaction to a boy talking to her so closely, even if that wasn't the coach intention, still make her happy.
"dude, Cora, and Emily will kill you. And kill Greenberg, not necessarily in that order" said Stiles while giving a side hug to Scott and looking at him with a wide grin.
"now, every person I didn't call, means that they didn't make it, you can go to cry to your mother, or you can start to prepare yourself from now and take the tryouts again next year. If you weren't called, then get your asses out of the field" surprisingly, despite some people cursing for failing, more than half of the people giving the tryouts failed and had to go home.
"wow, we are less than I expected" said Stiles out loud.
"you can say that again, Bilinski. This year just a few freshman students were good at playing, the rest are students of higher grades that didn't make it last year. If I have to be honest, I would say that we are lacking good players, even among the ones in junior and senior year, there are just a few that can be considered good players. For that same reason, I decided to choose a freshman year student as captain, or should I say, co-captain..." at the coach words, everyone seemed surprised, but no one was more surprised than Jackson who was smiling at first and then is expression was of utter shock.
"this year some promising students made it to first line, that's why I decided that two freshman year students were exactly what the team needed to keep it fresh. Now, Jackson Whittemore and Scott McCall, you are from now on, the new co-captains of the lacrosse team" the announce of coach Finstock surprised almost everyone, Scott knew that this was coming, but he couldn't accept it, not yet at least. Jackson on his side was furious.
"coach, I ask for a second opinion, it's impossible that I have to share the captain title with that loser" said Jackson with a scowl and hard tone of voice. Scott only rolled his eyes and walked next to the coach.
"Jackson, I'm the coach, you are the player, in this team, I'm the one in charge. maybe you just receive the title of co-captain, but that doesn't mean that you can take decisions without consulting me first. in other words, Jackson, I don't need a second opinion, and that so-called loser had even a better final score than you" said the coach at first with a little smile, that in seconds change to a scowl and a serious tone of voice. Jackson on his side couldn't believe the coach words, it was impossible that Scott would have beat him in the score.
"coach" said Scott with a calm voice.
"yes, McCall" said the coach.
"I reject the title of co-captain" said Scott as calm as possible. After hearing Scott words, the coach started to laugh out loud thinking that Scott was joking. No one else was laughing, and actually, both Isaac and Stiles were looking at Scott with confusion and disbelief.
"dude, what the hell are you doing?" asked Stiles getting next to Scott. Scott only gives him a reassuring smile before getting serious again and watching the coach.
"hahaha... oh, you are serious" said the coach after a few seconds, he now has a scowl since he didn't understand why a freshman year would reject the position of captain, even if it was co-captain.
"what are you doing McCall? I don't need your pity" said Jackson standing in front of Scott and watching him with murderous eyes.
"I'm not doing this for you, or because I pity you. I'm doing this to win, for the team" said Scott in a serious tone getting irritated.
"wait, wait... McCall, I'm not following you" said the coach with confusion and giving Scott a sign for him to explain.
"I want to win in the future lacrosse matches, and for that, we need a good captain and someone who knows how to play" said Scott with a calm but serious voice.
"I know, that's why I choose you and Jackson to be co-captains because both are the top players in the team, even better than some of the junior and senior players" said the coach with a smile.
"it might be like that, but being a good player is not the same as being a good leader. Right now I might be a good player. But I don't have experience in a real match, and I don't know enough about the team and real plays to be a captain or even a co-captain. Jackson on the other hand already has experience in competitive matches and real lacrosse matches, he has played with some of the players that are standing right here, and he was one of the best players and the reason why the middle school lacrosse team won the championship last year. I'm not saying that I don't want to be captain because I do want that, but I'm not prepared, not yet" Scott was calm and serious during his whole speech, some of the players were actually really impressed by Scott words. The coach was very serious watching Scott.
"I'll be honest with you McCall, you might be a top player, but that doesn't mean that you can take or reject the titles and positions that I give you at your will. On the other hand, if you are able to earn more experience during this year and you improve your game even more, then I might offer you the title of co-captain or even captain next year, of course, you must show some results during the future matches for me to even consider on offering you the position again" said coach with a serious expression but a calm voice.
"thanks, coach" said Scott with a smile.
"what about you Jackson? Will you also reject the captain position? Or you will take the title. consider that if you do a really good job this year and you improve your game until you beat McCall in a 1 vs 1, you might keep your captain title for 2 years maybe even 3. can you do that, Jackson?" asked the coach knowing that a little of competition would be good to improve the players game.
Jackson looked at Scott with a serious expression and then at the coach.
"I accept to be captain, and you can be absolutely sure coach that we'll win the championship this year" said Jackson with confidence. Coach smiled since things would get interesting.
"perfect. Now, McCall and Whittemore aren't the only ones who need to improve their game on the field. Tomorrow we'll meet again for some practice and to start to give you your positions. that's all, you can go" said coach starting to leave. A lot of students started to go away.
"you will pay" said Jackson in a menacing tone that didn't affect Scott. Then Jackson took off followed by Danny who only gives Scott and apologetic smile.
"that jackass should be more thankful to you for rejecting the title of captain. On the other hand, what the hell man? Did you really reject the captain position?" said Stiles at first a little irritated and then with obvious confusion in his expression and tone.
"I already said why I don't want to be a co-captain or captain, for now, maybe next year or the year next to that, I'm not really that worried" said Scott with a smile. But he was lying, kind of. The real reason why he rejected the position of co-captain was because he didn't want to deal with Jackson more than necessary, originally Scott was co-captain with Jackson just a few days after he became a werewolf, and even if that event is supposed to happen in a year and a few more months, he didn't want to change the timeline too much. Plus, this time he needed to keep Jackson in Beacon Hills and that would mean to spend even more time with him. In his previous timeline, Scott and Jackson put their differences apart for the greater good, but Jackson from this timeline was still a complete douche and that won't change for a while.
"Scott, your speech was absolutely awesome, after listening to your words I'm 100% sure that you should have been the captain instead of jackass. it's a shame that you rejected the title, but I'm sure that you will make it next year" said a pretty excited Greenberg with a huge smile. Scott smiled at her.
"thanks, I'll do my best" said Scott to the girl. Greenberg had a wide grin and raise her hand to give five to Scott, Scott notices this and he gives five to Greenberg.
"oh my god, I'm so happy for you guys" said Erica while giggling and running straight to Isaac to hug him, then she hugs Scott and finally Stiles hugging him the longest. Her smile never leaving her face.
"Yeah, I'm also happy for us" said Stiles a little uncomfortable at the hug of Erica, he looked at Scott like wanting an answer to her weird behavior but Scott only rolled his eyes while Greenberg smiled at watching the scene.
"good job, you did great" said Boyd with a thin smile and a calm tone of voice while patting Isaac back.
"thanks, I barely did it but I made it" said Isaac with a huge grin.
"it's so great that everything is okay" said Greenberg with a pleased smile. Erica finally lets Stiles go and walk next to Scott who was next to Greenberg.
"Scott, I think I need to warn you, you should run" Scott was confused by the words of Erica until she points to Emily and Cora who didn't seem to be that happy. Then the realization hit him, he was talking rather close to Greenberg and both girls can be really jealous and overprotective, especially Emily since she is more open about her feeling towards Scott.
"mm... Greenberg, you should run, run and hid, fly if necessary but you need to go to a place where they can't find you" said Scott with a little of panic in his voice. Greenberg seemed confused at first, so she only looked at Scott like he was weird.
"we can hear you, don't think you two can escape so easily" said Emily while walking pretty fast in their direction. Cora only followed and didn't say anything but the scowl on her face said everything that Scott needed to know, both were very angry at him and he didn't do anything.
"oh" said Greenberg starting to panic as well. Just when she was about to run, Emily got next to Scott and growl to Greenberg stopping her from moving.
"so, who is she? And why were you flirting with her?" asked Emily, Cora finally get behind her cousin.
"wait, he didn't flirt with me... we didn't flirt with each other" said Greenberg with total confidence. Sadly for her, even though she wasn't lying, her heartbeat was slightly irregular since she was scared of Emily and Cora who was still in silence.
"yeah, right, because I've never heard that before" said Emily giving a glare to Greenberg that made her flinch, while Scott keeps his ground.
"Oh, man, you are in so much trouble" said Stiles to Scott with a big smirk.
"you will also be in trouble if you don't shut up" said Emily with a menacing tone and a deep growl coming from her throat. She was barely keeping control of herself.
"Emily, Cora, let me introduce you to Riley Greenberg, lacrosse player and team member. Highly optimistic and smiles a lot. we share a few classes. She is a good girl. Not so much of good students but at least she tries. Also, the coach hates her because of her last name" said Scott with a calm and tender voice. Scott's voice was able to relax Cora and Emily a little.
"wow, you know way more about me than I know about you" said Greenberg with surprise in her voice. Scott only smiled at her earning a glare and growl for the 2 girls in front of him.
"why do you know so much about her? Do you like her?" asked Cora this time. She sounded a little angry.
"I do like her but not in the way you think. I like her the same way I like Isaac, Erica, and Boyd, as a friend. But not the same way I like Stiles, as a best friend, and especially not in the same way I like you 2" said Scott with a little smile.
"that's so sweet, I also like you as a friend" said the girl with a goofy smile. Cora and Emily give an irritated look to Scott but then nod their heads.
"fine, I believe you" said Cora walking away. Scott sigh at the sight of this. Emily on her side inspects Greenberg face a few seconds before she looked at Scott.
"let's go eat something" said the girl with a smile directed to Scott. She was jealous indeed, but she knew that Scott was saying the truth. Also helped the fact that Scott put Emily in the same place that Cora when he referred to people he likes.
"Let's go" said Scott with a smile, then Emily walked next to him and both head to Scott house where they were supposed to go to study today. Before he was gone, Scott waves his hand to Greenberg as a way to say goodbye, Greenberg smiled at him and also wave her hand.
"Hey, Scott! wait for me" said Stiles running to catch up with Scott and Emily. The rest also followed except for Greenberg that went the other way around.
A year and a few months later.-
It's been a long way until this day, the day that Scott originally became a werewolf. During the past year and a few months, Scott and his friends have had a good time while he still trained and prepared himself for the days to come. Scott was able to help Derek to consolidate a relationship of friendship and trust with Boyd, Erica and Isaac, being the last one the one who always prefer Scott but still his the one who helps Derek the most. Thanks to Scott, Derek, and Laura, Isaac improve his physical abilities by practicing lacrosse with them and with a little of training on self-defense. Boyd became more confident, still being quiet and calm, but now he would fight if necessary and is almost never alone. Erica became closer to the hale girls, especially Cora, although she still is sick, she had been taken care and protected by her new friends, now she smiles more often. Emily and Cora still are into Scott, but he hasn't "choose" any of them, despite the fact that he as being clear about him liking Cora, he still is pretty close to Emily, who tease Scott constantly but no longer try aggressive moves on him. Cora on her side also tease Scott and flirt with him, she also is more open about her feeling, but that doesn't mean that she won't be mean to him sometimes. On the side of Jackson, Lydia, and Danny, things have been pretty "good" depending who you ask. Jackson and Danny still are best friends, but since Danny talks a lot with both Stiles and Scott, Jackson has been getting very pissed off with the "losers" like Jackson calls them, on the other hand, he as improve a lot in lacrosse and he has used his anger to improve in other areas with the objective of beating Scott in everything. Danny on his side don't like Jackson's attitude, but he knows that Jackson has had some hard times and also know that Jackson is not so bad, so he continues by his side. Lydia on her side, speaks more often with Scott, she has realized that Scott is a good person and a great "friend" to talk to and made her laugh, although she wouldn't say it out loud, she also has got slightly interested in Stiles, she would sometimes cheer him up during the lacrosse matches (to Jackson annoyance) and give him subtle signals of interest but since Stiles still can't put himself together and neither do the things like Lydia wanted, she keeps playing hard with him. The Hale family has dealed with the werewolves that keep coming to Beacon Hills. Coach and Greenberg still have their typical interactions, and despite she still hasn't told the coach the truth about her, they are seen together more often. Scott and Stiles still get in troubles a lot, Stiles still doesn't know about the supernatural, but Scott promised him that this day he would tell him everything.
"hurry up Scott, we need to get to the Hale house" said Stiles with an expression of excitement. Right now they where in the forest.
"wow, you seem more excited than me" said Scott with a wide smile. Today was an important day for him since this is the day he must become a werewolf, Scott decided to head to the Hale house and finally ask Talia for "the bite". This is also the day he was supposed to tell Stiles his secret (the one about the Hale family being werewolves and him knowing it, apart from other supernatural things, but nothing related to him "coming from the future") that's the reason why Scott thought that the best way to let Stiles enter in this new world was by showing him the bite and the moment he turned into a werewolf.
"of course i'm excited Scott, today is the day I'll be finally able to know what you were hiding from me. Also, today I'll understand what the hell you always talk with the Hales and all the weird things you have been doing during the last few years" said Stiles.
"like recruiting friends for Derek?" asked Scott with a playful smile.
"exactly" said Stiles with a serious expression.
"you know, you shouldn't be so excited about being in the forest, don't you remember what you told me last month?" asked Scott with a thin smile while giving Stiles an amusing look.
"you mean, the think about the increase in weird animal attack, and how most of them happened in the forest or near the forest. No, I don't remember telling you that at all" said Stiles with a sarcastic tone. Scott only rolled his eyes but keep smiling.
"you could have said yes" said Scott trying to reprimand his friend for the unnecessary use of a sarcastic comment.
"I could, but that wouldn't be fun, don't you think? Now, about the animal attacks, I honestly don't believe they are actually that, I mean, come on, we have had some weird "animal attacks" in the past, but they are always too odd, some of them seem to be too smart, like the location, always in a place where is hard to see them, never in places that have any sort of surveillance and the easiest to find are the ones in the forest that tend to be in the open, while the ones that happen near the area, tend to be in places where is hard to find the bodies, that doesn't say animal to me at all. Also, the people killed, usually people who are alone in a place, not even nearly close to other people or people that it will be hard to realize that they are dead, with the occasional kill of a person inside the city and no one even saw the animal or the attack itself. I tell you, dude, we have some kind of killer in Beacon Hills" said Stiles with a serious expression while still walking. Scott could notice that Stiles was still thinking about the attacks, this was always his thing, he was the one who always figures things out.
A month ago, a group of werewolves came to Beacon Hills, but they didn't use the same patterns that the previous packs that came to attack. This particular pack started to kill people in the zone, this catches the Hales attention since then the Hales have been trying to trace this pack, only being able to fight them a few times, and never found their Alpha.
"if you believe that there's a killer, then, why are you so calm?" asked Scott with an eyebrow raised and a little smirk.
"I don't see you freaking out either. To be honest, this is some of the most exciting things that have happened to this city in a while, plus, if we encounter a killer, I'll let you deal with him" said Stiles with a little smirk and pointing a finger at Scott.
"you will let me deal with a killer, that's a good friend" said Scott in a tone of disbelief but with a little of teasing.
"Oh, common Scott, you have been training to defend yourself for years, also, look at you, you are only 16 and you already have big arms and can probably kick the shit out of most adults, your body scream fighter. Me, I have improved a lot, but I'm still a pale and thin person with barely any strength, do you know what I will be able to do if I face danger? Run, Scott, the only thing I would be able to do is to run, lacrosse style" said Stiles making Scott chuckle for the answer his best friend give him. Scott only walks next to Stiles and pat his back.
"let's go runner" said Scott playfully making Stiles smile as well.
Both boys walked for a few more minutes when suddenly they hear a woman voice.
"what was that?" asked Stiles looking at their surroundings. Scott on his side was completely alert in case of danger.
Out of nowhere, a body came flying and fall just in front of both boys. Stiles immediately gasp at the sight of a very wound and bloody Laura Hale. Scott get down to inspect the body, Laura was severely injured and had a big slash on her chest, Scott immediately thought that the attack was aimed at her throat.
"s... sc... ott" said Laura barely breathing and forcing her eyes to open. Scott takes her hand and give her a reassuring smile.
"Shhh, there's no need to talk, you are safe now" said Scott while tenderly caress her hand and her face.
"r... r... ru... n" said Laura before she passes out. Suddenly both boys hear a growl, and once Scott lifts his head, a big and monstrous wolf with glowing red eyes was a few meters away from him, this obviously was an Alpha werewolf and looked very similar to Peter when he was an Alpha.
"oh my god! what the hell is that!?" said Stiles really scared and stumbling while stepping back. The werewolf growl at the movement. Scott takes Laura bridal style very carefully and give her to Stiles who looked at him with surprise and confusion.
"Stiles, take Laura with you, and go straight to the Hale house, tell them what happened, whatever you do, don't look back" said Scott with a serious expression while facing the Alpha.
"Wh... what? Are you insane? What could you possibly do against that?" asked Stiles in disbelief of the words of his friend, Scott only smiled a little not even looking at Stiles.
"I'm going to distract him, I can fight him, remember, but you, you can run, you need to run, and make sure that Laura is safe. Now, go Stiles, GO!" said Scott in a more serious tone and preparing himself to lunge against the Alpha, Stiles at the beginning hesitate, but once Scott raises his voice to tell him to go, Stiles only nod his head and started to run while carrying Laura.
The werewolf growl at the sight of Stiles running away with his prey, but before he could chase them, Scott start running to attack him, the Alpha took that as a challenge and he runs against Scott, ready to slash his throat. Just when the distance was enough, Scott quickly rolled to the side, take out his knife, and cut the Alpha left arm. The monstrous Alpha looked at his arm and growl to Scott before he lunges against the boy again. Scott tried to continue the process of evading and slash the Alpha. This was the situation for a while.
A few minutes later, Hale house.-
It was a quiet day in the Hale property. Cora and Emily were doing some homework, for some odd reason, Scott said to them that this particular day it wasn't necessary for none of them to go study at his house like usual, so they reluctantly nod their heads and now they are trying to understand some of the assignments. Derek his on the couch reading some old book that his mother gave him like always he has a serious expression. Matthew is working on some of his weapons and preparing himself to try to trace the new pack in Beacon Hills, again. Talia and Peter are sitting close to Matthew so the 3 of them can talk about how to find this new pack and deal with them.
"a month, it's been a month and we still can't find them, this is unbelievable" said Peter with an irritated tone, he was already losing his patience. He has been the one in charge of tracing the pack and is the one who looks for them more often, especially since he has more free time than the rest.
"the Alpha of this pack must be smarter than the ones we have dealt before, it's like he and his pack members just appear and disappear any moment they want to" said Matthew with a serious expression while inspecting his guns.
"you're right, but the Alpha hasn't shown himself yet, of course, he can't be hidden forever, especially since we were able to deal with 4 of his Betas. For now, the only thing we can do is be patient, careful and continue trying to track them down" said Talia with a serious expression. She wasn't enjoying the situation, but she couldn't do anything about it, plus, she knew that the moment they get too frustrated, will be the moment they will make a mistake and the enemy will take advantage of that.
The room stayed quiet for a moment until the werewolves in the family (everyone but Matthew) started to hear some heavy footsteps, erratic breathing, and a crazy heartbeat, close to one barely working.
"HELP! Derek! Cora! Laura is dying!" they heard the scream of Stiles. Everyone tenses up at his words and immediately they head out of the house.
Once outside, what they saw made them pale in fear. Stiles was barely walking anymore, carrying a fainted Laura full of wounds with a big slash on her chest and his heartbeat almost gone. Talia immediately went to see her daughter. Once the hales get close enough, Stiles fall on his knees and put the body of Laura on the floor, he was trying to recover his breathing while the Hales were around him.
"what happened?" asked Talia the best she could, but she was sick worry for her daughter. Matthew immediately started to inspect Laura's injuries. While Derek, Peter, Cora, and Emily had an angry face and were looking at Stiles.
"we... we... coming here... Scott stayed back..." said Stiles between breaths, Pointing at the forest.
"Stiles! Recover your breath quickly and talk" demanded Derek getting irritated, his sister was injured and Scott might be in danger. Stiles only give him a glare.
"shut... up" said Stiles trying to sound angry.
"Stiles, take a deep breath, and then, tell. Us. Everything" said Cora with a death glare and a menacing tone. Stiles nods his head and take that deep breath.
"okay... Scott and I were heading here... then, out of nowhere, Laura fall on our feet... a big, and I mean very big, monstrous... wolf? I don't even know what that thing was... Scott told me to take Laura here... he stayed to distract that thing" said Stiles with a tone of fear and regret. After hearing her words, Emily growl and in just a flash, she takes Stiles by his shirt and knocks him down to the ground.
"you left him alone! alone with the monster who did that to my cousin! I'm going to KILL YOU!" said Emily while violently moving Stiles body against the ground. She was losing control and her eyes glow blue, Stiles didn't even care that since he was already feeling guilty. Cora and Derek were now trying to take Emily away from Stiles.
"you think that I wanted that! to left my best friend ALONE! to let him face that monster, well I didn't! okay, he might be dead now, DEAD! and there's nothing I can do about" Stiles started to yell to Emily for everyone's surprise, his voice was raised but also cracking.
"why did you left him behind?"Emily's eyes started to get wet, and her voice softened. She didn't want to imagine something bad happening to Scott, but seeing the state of her cousin, things didn't seem to very good for the boy.
"I don't know... I just... sniff... I just didn't know what to do... and... and he told me to bring Laura here, he told me to go..." Stiles' voice was weak and he was about to break. Talia on his side understand what happened, Scott gives Stiles an Alpha command. Since a long time, and even though Scott was human, Talia would see Scott giving Alpha commands in a certain situation of danger or when he was emotional. For Stiles, it must have been more difficult, since Stiles his Scott best friend, he is somehow part of Scott pack, so it would be even more difficult for him to resist Scott's order.
"Emily leave Stiles alone" said Derek in a tender voice while carefully taking Emily away. Cora was looking at the forest with a hand on his mouth and trying to suppress the tears, but still, some fall from her face.
"let's take Laura inside to treat her, then we decide what to do about Scott" everyone nodded and started to head inside. Except for Cora and Stiles who still was on the ground trying to suppress the need for crying.
"I left him..." said the boy barely above a whisper.
"you didn't have a choice... Scott knows that... it was the three of you dead, or you and my sister safe... I think he trusts we will help him..." said Cora while wiping the tears from her eyes. Stiles didn't look at her, and she didn't look at him, they couldn't look at anyone in the eyes at that moment. After a few seconds, Cora helps Stiles to get on his feet and both headed inside the house without looking at each other.
"what do you think?" asked Talia while her daughter was now on the couch and Matthew inspecting her.
"Luckily she can heal, her wounds are healing slower than ever, but still faster than a normal human. I can keep her alive and make sure that she starts to heal properly. To be honest, even with her healing abilities, if the boy didn't bring her in time, she probably would have died" said Matthew with a serious tone. Talia's blood was burning, the enemy Alpha dared to touch her daughter, this definitely wasn't something that she could forgive.
"what do we do now?" asked Derek with a scowl and an angry tone.
"we find him and kill him. No one messes with our family" said Peter with a harsh tone while looking at Laura. He might not show it, but he cared for his family, and even if Laura wasn't his favorite since she always has some kind of argument with him about how to deal with things, he still cared for his niece.
"Matthew take care of Laura and make sure that Emily, Cora, and Stiles stay here. Derek and Peter, come with me" said the woman with a strong tone. While Matthew, Derek, and Peter nodded their heads. Emily, as well as Cora and Stiles that just entered the house when Talia started to give orders, looked at the woman with surprised and ready to protest.
"mom! I won't stay here if Scott is out there facing an Alpha" said Cora with a scowl and a decisive tone, no longer caring about Stiles knowing about them.
"well, too bad, you will still be in here, I can't be out worrying about you being safe if I will deal with an Alpha" said Talia without a minute of hesitation.
"no, not happening, my best friend is out there, I have to go back" said Stiles with a serious expression.
"there's no way I'm staying here" said Emily walking next to Cora.
"me neither, I'll go whether you like it or not" the three teenagers already made their minds, sadly for them, also did Talia who now was irritated.
"OBEY!" order Talia to the teenagers, showing them her red glowing eyes and her fangs. The 3 of them flinch at the sight and looked away, even Stiles but it was due to fear.
"you are not allowed to leave this house" said Talia before heading out followed by Peter and Derek.
"I'll make sure he is safe" said Derek with a soft tone before he went out.
Meanwhile in the forest.-
Scott falls hard to the ground. He has been facing the Alpha for a while and was able to keep himself from being hurt at the same time that he was able to injure the monster. Of course, Scott wasn't so naive like to think he could win, he was definitely skilled enough to deal with a werewolf, but an Alpha was different, the Alpha would eventually hurt Scott no matter how good Scott was at dodging his attacks.
"I wish I could heal" said Scott while trying to get up, he was feeling pain from the fall and the hit. It wasn't so bad but still, hurt a lot.
The alpha was walking on Scott direction when he started to change. Scott stood up and in front of him a man with several cuts on his body was standing and looking at Scott with a conflicted expression.
"a human... a human who is able to keep up with an Alpha... I don't know if I should be surprised by this or if I should have expected this after seeing how close you are with the Hale family" said the man in a calm but still menacing tone.
"you should go for surprised. Most people get surprised and it's always fun to see their reactions" said Scott in a playful tone. The Alpha didn't move or change his expression.
"you are really weird, did you know that? Most people would be afraid to death of me, even hunters would have a hard time to calm themselves before being ready to fight me... but you... your heartbeat is steady, not one change, or at least not a change produced by fear or nervousness, you are just there, smiling and ready to fight... I don't like it" said the Alpha still in a calm expression but this time with a tone of deep thinking.
"what can I say to you? I've seen a lot in my life, you don't scare me" said Scott with a calm tone, Scott take his knife and lunge against the Alpha again, but this time a Beta jump at Scott from the side, Scott barely dodge it, but still receive a scratch on his right arm.
"tch... don't get so cocky you stupid teenager" said the yellow eyes Beta who attacked Scott. Then, 2 more werewolves appear from behind some trees, a girl with yellow eyes and another man with blue eyes.
"so this is your pack" said Scott to the Alpha while looking at the Betas.
"the ones who are still alive, thanks to the Hales" said the Alpha with a scowl and a tone of irritation.
"you shouldn't have come to Beacon Hills and start to kill innocent people" said Scott with a serious expression.
"what I do or stop doing is not your business. On the other hand, I was about to get some revenge for the death of some of my Betas when you interrupt me, and that deserves some punishment" said the Alpha with glowing red eyes. The Betas get the signal and started to attack Scott.
Scott tried to dodge every attack the best he could, but it wasn't enough, he was facing 3 werewolves and he still could handle them to some extent. Scott hit one in the face with his elbow making him stumble back, then he cut the face of the one on his right and then punch him on the face, the last one received a kick from Scott, but then Scott was tackled down by one of the Betas. The werewolf over Scott started to attack him with his claws, Scott tried to defend himself by using his arms as a shield.
"leave him alone" the voice came to Scott ears and suddenly the werewolf over him was flying against a tree. Derek quickly helps Scott to get on his feet.
"thanks" said Scott with a smile. Derek also smiled at him and then saw Scott's arms full of wounds.
"HALES!" said the Alpha with a menacing tone.
"so you are the Alpha who hurt my daughter. You will pay for that" said Talia with anger and showing her glowing eyes and big fangs.
"you killed my Betas! you will die!" said the Alpha before turning into a monstrous wolf, while Talia turns into a big black wolf and both started to fight.
"you damned Hales you will pay for what you did to my brother" said the female werewolf before lunging against Derek. Derek with a serious expression prepared himself to fight. Peter was already fighting against the werewolf with blue eyes. Scott was on his feet looking at the situation. When he felt danger and evade as quick as possible.
"I'm still not done with you" said the werewolf that was sent flying by Derek. He looked pissed off and tried to attack Scott again.
To say that the fight wasn't one-sided would be a lie. Peter and Derek completely overwhelmed their opponents, they block and dodge every attack countering with one of their own, after just a few minutes, their opponents were on their knees barely breathing. The big difference was that Peter completely killed his opponent by slashing his throat, while Derek only knocks his opponent out with a powerful blow using his knee. Scott on his side was able to stand his ground against the Beta even though Scott's arms were harm and he still felt the pain for the hit he received from the Alpha. The Beta that was fighting against Scott receive some cuts and a few stabs during the fight, only being able to scratch Scott a little, he was losing control of himself during the fight. Finally, the 2 Alphas fighting were about to finish, probably with the death of one of them.
"everything ends up here, you lost" said, Talia, while looking down her enemy. The enemy Alpha was on the ground, with serious injuries and losing a lot of blood, barely able to lift his head, he was clenching his teeth.
"you!... why can't I win against you? What makes you so special?" said the werewolf with hate reflected in his eyes. Talia only looked at him, not even feeling sorry for him, he tried to hurt her family, he deserved this and worst.
"she's really strong" said Scott with a little smile watching the scene between both Alphas. He was careless so he got distracted.
"Scott!" yell Derek, when Scott looked at his direction, he receives a big slash on his back, then stumbles forward and fall on his knees. Talia looked worried at Scott and then looked back at the Alpha with even more hate.
"shit" said Scott realizing his mistake. When the Beta was about to attack him again, Derek jump in front of him and hit the Beta hard on his face, knock him down instantly.
"are you okay? How could you let yourself get distracted?" asked Derek with a worried tone and a scowl on his face. Scott only smiled before he spits some blood that started to come out of his mouth.
"Scott!" Cora, Stiles, and Emily yell from the distance, they saw the last thing that happened and they were worried sick about the boy. At that moment that everyone looked at the direction of the teenagers, the Alpha looked at the hurt boy, he was the reason why everything went down, he was the reason why his plan was a waste, so he decided that if he was going to die, he would at least take the boy with him.
The Alpha uses the last of his remaining strength to lunge against the place where Derek and Scott are. Everything happened in slow motion, the screams of warning, the intent to stop the alpha, the panic in the face of the younger Hales and Stiles. Derek trying to protect Scott and failing. And finally, Scott being stab in his stomach by the Alpha hand.
"if I die, you're coming with me!" said the Alpha with anger reflected in his glowing red eyes. Scott couldn't say anything, right now his mouth was full of his own blood, the pain he was feeling was excruciating, and memories of the past (or the future) were filling his mind.
"Scott!" this was the third time someone called his name in the last few minutes, and this time was Talia's turn. She runs to him and pushes the Alpha to the ground just a few feet from them, then she started to inspect Scott injuries and Scott could notice the worry and panic on her face.
"NO! no... no, no, No! Scott, don't you dare to die on me, okay" said Stiles running to the side of his best friend, with tears slipping from his face. Now Stiles was just in front of Scott, grabbing Scott clothes and looking at the hole in his stomach. Scott only could smile at the sight of his best friend.
"oh, my god! Scott... Scott, please don't..." said Emily with a soft and cracking voice getting down to see Scott, she was already crying at the sight of Scott hurt body and all the blood on him. Cora was behind her, no words could get out of her mouth, she was using one of her hands to cover her mouth while the other was on her chest, tears didn't stop running down her face, she didn't even felt like breathing.
"s... sco... tt" Cora chocked to only say his name. Meanwhile, Scott only could smile at the sight of the Hale family that has been so close to him in the last few years and his best friend that was on his side.
