Emily's POV, Tuesday
I had Art and P.E. first today, so I didn't see Alfie until nutrition.
"Art was crappy today because Bianca was chastising me for whatever reason, and we had very little time to do actual artwork because a very sensitive kid had a tantrum and knocked down all the clay glazes. And then in P.E. we ran all day, as usual. So how was your day so far?" I told him, getting more and more frustrated with every word.
"Not as exciting as yours."
My eyes widened as I remembered.
"We have a huge math test today." I scrambled and got out my math notes, hoping against hope that I would still understand them.
"Do you want to read my notes? I'm pretty sure they don't have doodles all over them. "
He handed them to me and I was shocked at how neat and understandable they were.
"Wow, dude. What's wrong with you? You have perfect notes."
"Thanks," he said, snorting.
I started reading them and was getting the topics better than I had when the teacher taught it. By the end of the brunch, I was feeling very confident about the test.
"Thanks, Alfie." I said.
"Anytime."
Lunch
I sat down next to him and asked why he was so nervous.
"Oh, nothing," he replied. I took a bite of this barbecue wrap thing from the cafeteria and juice spilled all over my shirt.
"Well, that's great. At least I'm not dressed up." Good thing I actually never dress up for school.
The people around the table were all guffawing and chuckling, but Alfie just handed me a napkin. Hmm, that was kind of strange. I cleaned myself up and resumed eating.
After the mediocre lunch I sat and talked with all my friends. Alfie tapped my shoulder.
"Hey, do you wanna get out of here for a while?" This was unlike him. He usually was quite the social butterfly.
"Uh, OK. Sure." I slid out of my chair and followed him to the back of the cafeteria.
"What's up?" I asked. Alfie shifted his weight.
"Um, do you want to-um, go out with me?" He asked. He looked into my eyes, and I hoped they conveyed happiness.
"Really? I mean, yeah, I'd love to, totally." I could see the relief in his eyes.
"Cool! I'll call you and we can set up and stuff." I beamed. We walked back to the table. They all looked like they knew what had happened. Was it really that obvious?
