Percy POV
Yesterday was a long day. Even thinking back about it gave me a pain in my head. Why did that idiotic Roman have to be so stubborn and so arrogant? He was the major cause of all our problems but if he had changed at least we would have had another solider to fight in the war. His skills in battle were poor so he most likely would have fallen quickly and suffered much worse than what befell him. It's his own fault anyway. No one, whether they god, titan, giant or primordial insults the assassin without retribution. Firstly I would not allow it to happen but secondly they would never stop hunting the one who dishonours or disrespects them. They are brutal and merciless killers with unyielding nerve and they have become the greatest fighters this Universe has ever seen. Although I am second only to Chaos, even I could not take on a group of my assassins for they would destroy any enemy that stands against them. Their mere presence strikes fear at the heart of their enemies. They are clad in complete black even their faces are covered although they can see perfectly. Chaos once told me he removed any sense of mercy as they were sent after they worst of his enemies. He also filled them with a sixth sense to know exactly when an enemy is near which coupled with their speed makes them the most deadly enemy the universe has seen.
With me and the assassin training them, the Gods will be in the greatest shape they have been since the old days in original Greece. Their powers need strengthening and the combat skills are deplorable save maybe Artemis and Athena, although they are still not great. I can already foresee some of the arrogant and egotistical Gods, mainly Zeus and Ares, refuse our training and argue their skills are greater than anyone else's. Laying on my bed I thought of what way would be best to train and test the Gods. With Zeus and Ares though, I would deal with them if they started disrupting my training. The demigods however would be trained by the soldiers of my army which as some of the greatest warriors to have ever lived. They are not on the same level of the assassins, but their strength lies in how the fight as a group and their attitude of never stopping until the last man stands. They will stand defiant in the face of certain death rather than flee which makes them the most loyal fighters that can be found. They will turn the demigods from good fighters to skilled warriors that will crush their enemies. My soldiers will instil the secret of the abilities to the demigods. The secret of fighting as a unit without even thinking about it, the secret of fluid group fighting where each member knows how best to aid and help one another to defeat an army of considerable larger numbers than ours.
With all these thoughts parading around in my mind I decide it's time to clear my head and worry about them when it's time for training to start. I pull myself up off my bed and head to get showered. I quickly get dressed and decide to head for breakfast at the pavilion but it's still relatively early as the pavilion is empty. I quickly eat my breakfast of protein pancakes and fruit with a protein shake so I can endure the rigours this day will bring. I quickly look down at my bed and marvel at how skinny I used to be. I have put on considerable amounts of muscle since starting training with Chaos but not so much as to hinder my speed and movement. I am completely ripped with less than 0.5% body fat that any athlete on this planet would kill for. I decide to go for a quick run around the border of camp, which have been extended quite a bit over d years and even more with the arrival of the Romans. In total it was 8 miles which was a short distance compared to the training I have completed in my years of service to Chaos. As I run my senses are heightened with the morning fresh air which clears my mind and helps me to push harder. As I run past the forest I see many tree nymphs waving hello and some looking at me with wide eyes which makes me chuckle a bit. Eventually I round the creek and head back to the cabin area. Just as I arrive many demigods are starting to wake and head for breakfast. When they see me they stop and stare; some with awed eyes and some with terror in their eyes as if I was going to hurt them. "Don't worry I was just doing some running, you can all carry on training won't start until after breakfast" I explain before heading into my cabin to get another quick shower before going to the pavilion to announce the start of training.
As soon as I was ready I head for the pavilion and wait and the head table for the demigods to finish their breakfast. The demigods have seemed to heed my advice as they are all having a healthy breakfast that will strength their muscles throughout the day. After a quick chat with Chiron I decide it's time to gather everyone. I mentally call to Delta to come and as I look at the back of the pavilion every assassin is already there. Sometimes even their speed astonishes me although I can move at their speed with ease. I nod to Delta and the assassins who all acknowledge me in unison. I mentally call out to Alpha and the soldiers to come to the pavilion and within seconds they are standing alongside the assassins. I quickly nod to Chiron who stomps his hoof to call for attention. "Demigods your training will start in 15 minutes so I suggest you go grab your weapons and proceed to the arena and do not under any circumstance are you to be late" he finished as they all scurried off.
I look to the sky and call on Olympus to come down and within moments the pavilion is filled with flashes of white lights as every Olympian god arrives. Many of them, after seeing Delta's prowess with a sword, are excited at the chance of being trained by me and the assassins while others look like they would rather be anywhere else because they think they do not need training. Perfect so. I will push those idiots beyond the known limits of their endurances. They will feel pain and hurt like never before, but which will make them strong.
Poseidon steps forward towards me and we embrace in a warm hug. "Percy, Olympus is here and awaits eagerly your signal to start training. You are right that we have relied on our powers to much over the years and we are now eager to test out battle skills against your finest warriors." I thank my father and look over to the other gods and study their expressions and surprise surprise Ares and Zeus look like they think this will be a pathetic exercise for them. My father walks back to the Olympians and I step in front of Ares and stare him down. "Is there something you want to share God of War?" I ask. He does not respond but I see him visibly holding his tongue which must mean my father has warned all of the gods. That is good but I decide I should test Ares' resolve to see how he will act. "Come on now don't tell me the almighty God of War is doesn't want to voice his opinion?" I goad him.
Between clenched teeth Ares replies "Watch your mouth you pathetic worm before I crush you. If this training was not made mandatory by Poseidon I would not be here but I'll gladly crush you in training if it comes to it." He finishes his voice seething with anger and hatred. "Well then Ares take the first shot" I say as I step right in front of his face. I already know what will happen. He smiles evilly and before his arm even pulls back an assassin has moved and pins the god to the ground with a sword at his throat. The gods, even though they have seen this, are still astonished at how quick and graceful these assassins can move. I crouch down and look at him directly in the eyes "You see Ares before you even move your hand my assassin have you defeated and would have killed you only I told him to hold his strike." Standing up and looking at the other Olympians I continue "This is how you must learn to fight for each other. To strike any enemy that attempt to strike one of your family. You must strike without hesitation as any split second you hesitate you will be struck down. You must be merciless and relentless in your approach. Omicron leave the War God stand and return to your position"
My assassin is back in line before Ares can even stand. "Alright if they are no more objections please proceed to the Arena and prepare for training." I finish this staring into Zeus' eyes daring, begging him to challenge me so I could crush him. I still have never forgiven him for what he has done and although I have had my retribution I still itch to put a hurting on him once more. But it must wait I need every single warrior I can to help me win this war and protect my home. My soldiers are already at the arena and are training the demigods when I arrive. I walk to my commanding soldier to get a report. "Sir, these demigods have shown a lot more prowess in battle that I thought possible for them. Many of them are matching our soldiers for extended periods of time. It will not be long to get these demigods up to the level of the soldiers as all of them are showing incredible enthusiasm especially the tall blonde fighting tow soldiers just over there" I follow his gaze although I already know who he is talking about. Annabeth is a blur as she parrys and stabs at two of my soldiers easily holding her own. I feel immense pride watching her which also helps ease my worry about her in this war. I know she will handle herself but I still with not allow her to come to harm. "That's good commander keep putting them through their paces and report to me later if anything changers." "Yes Sir" he finishes before I walk to the assassins who are standing in the shadows waiting for my signal.
I turn to the gods who are standing in their battle armour. Hermes calls out "Well Percy where are your assassins? They are training with us are they not?" he asks. I look over to one of my favourite gods and reply "Why yes Hermes they certainly are. They are here already although you do not see them. I have devised this session to emulate the conditions of the battle that we will have to face. As the primordials we are facing are the personifications of darkness and nothingness they will literally make shroud themselves in darkness therefore you must rely on your senses other than sight to fight. You must open your minds and listen to what's going on around you. When I give the signal my assassins will strike. Remember what I told you. You must learn to fight as one or fall as many. If you out aside all your petty quarrels and fight as a unit, fight as a family you can overcome any obstacle."
I ever so slightly incline my head and before I can even blink every assassin has a a god pinned to the ground with a sword at their throats. I simply just shake my head. "I told you to open your mind and take in your surroundings. Listen to any slight movement. I simply inclined my head which signalled the attack, if you had focused you would have picked it up. Again!"
The assassins immediately retreat to the shadows awaiting my signal again. "Concentrate. Take in your surroundings and focus on every detail, every sound, every movement." There is deathly silence as even the demigods and soldiers in the other side of the arena turn to watch this play out. Every Olympian is in fighting stance and I can see them focusing on every minute thing happening around them. This time I will mentally signal the assassins which will truly test the Gods. NOW I mentally call out. Soft and swift as the shadows themselves the assassins strike. Many of the minor Olympians suffer the same fate as do many of the major Olympians. Artemis, Athena, Poseidon, Hades, Apollo and Zeus are able to intercept the assassin's strikes and push them back. "Good! You see when you focus and listen you can sense your enemy coming. You others that have fell you need to concentrate more. Again until every Olympian both major and minor and anticipate the assassin's strike and engage them in battle.
I step back and observe for a few more hours. The gods will train for extended periods while the demigods are in one hour intervals and they have finished their daily training for the day. Eventually each of the Gods can anticipate the assassins strikes and engage them in battle for a short period before being overwhelmed. I decide that this is enough for today. But they will need to be able to fight the assassins to the point where they can come close to defeating them.
"Alright that's enough. Olympians today has been a huge success. You can now anticipate the attacks of the deadliest killers in the entire universe. From here on though you will need to withstand their attack for significant periods of time and even to the point where you may overpower them. For now though, rest and we shall begin again tomorrow. Well done again." Many of the gods flash out clearly weary from their efforts, Poseidon comes over to say a quick goodbye before dissolving into a sea mist and retreating to Atlantis. I look to my assassins who stand and still and quiet as shadows. "Good work my brothers. Now we shall really test them. For now return to your cabin." They seem to dissolve into the shadows. I sit on a nearby log and think over the day. I was so impressed at how Annabeth had fought against not only one but two of my soldiers. I was so lost in my thoughts that I didn't even register the blade at my throat.
Once my instincts kicked in I dropped below the blade unsheathed my sword and got into a fighting stance to find Annabeth laughing at me. "What's this? The second most powerful person in all of existence can be snuck up on by a demigod?" she asks jokingly. I started to chuckle and go to kiss her. "I was just lost in my thoughts is all. But well done there are not many in this entire universe who would get a blade to my throat." I say as we both sit down on the log. "I was really impressed with you today how you fought and not only one but two soldiers"
She looked into my eyes before replying "Well I need to be able to fight and defeat the most deadly enemies if I want to save that which I love the most. You." I look deep in her eyes and get lost in the stormy greyness that I have always loved. "Annabeth, you must not worry about me. If you do you will be distracted which will give the enemy the chance to strike at you."
"Percy it's the same for you. By me training as hard as I can and becoming as good as I can you do not need to worry about me because you will become distracted also." I could not argue with her there. "Ok your right. But know this Annabeth I will move heaven and Earth, destroy and enemy and sacrifice myself in order to save you if it comes to it." She looked at me with tears in her eyes as I said this.
"I love you, Seaweed Brian"
"I love you too, Wise Girl"
We kissed and it was the second best kiss we ever had, second only to our first ever kiss in the lake all those years ago. We sit silently enjoying each other's company while looking at the stars. After a while I notice Annabeth has fallen asleep on my shoulder so I carry her to her cabin where I gently lay her on her bed and kiss her on the forehead to say goodnight. Before I leave I can't help but think of my dream where she dies and my heart shatters. No it will not happen. I turn around at the door to look back at my love once more. I will let none harm her I thought before heading to my cabin to get some well needed sleep.
