The next week was more work and, appearances. Lora went back to Kentucky a few days why Hunter was in LA for his movie premiere. Vince had the bunny car picked up the night before to get ready for the promotions for the charity for Maina. Superbowl Sunday came and Lora pulled on her jeans and an old Brett Favre Green Bay Jersey. She finally managed to go to the salon the day before and color her hair. Lora was getting a hefty WWE paycheck now and things were getting back to being more comfortable financially. She was even able to send Timmy's mother more money than usual. She pulled her hair up in her bun with her oversized glasses. She pulled on her tennis shoes and, heard a knock at the door.
"Hunter? What are you doing here? I was just about to call a taxi." Lora looked confused. "Come in it's freezing out there."
Hunter in his leather jacket walked in the small apartment. "Wow. This place is nice. You have a flair for decorating." He looked around and, back at her seriously. His silent stair always made her nervous. He loomed over just looking her over. "I've never seen you in regular clothes."
"Oh. Just an old jersey I had. It's too big on me. Looks like a dress." She fidgeted with it.
"Anyway, I thought I'd pick you up. I was in town getting some last minute things for the party. Some beer and juice for the girls. Vince took the car right?" Hunter looked serious and annoyed. Lora didn't know how to take his mood. She had never seen him like this.
"Yes. Are you ok?"
Hunter looked down at his phone and rubbed his chin. He pulled up a photo on his phone. "Is this you?" He handed her the phone. Looking back at herself on the screen was who she use to be. Wearing a beautiful derby hat and a floral sundress. Smiling and laughing with her friends.
Lora started to walk back into the living area looking at the photo. "It used to be."
Hunter walked over putting his hand on her shoulder taking his phone. "What do you mean use to be?"
"I'm not that woman anymore. I left her behind years ago. I don't even think I know her anymore." She sat on the couch fidgeting with her hands.
"You seemed happy. I saw a lot of social magazines and, your tv show." Hunter sat by her.
"Yes. I was. Other than my marriage. Like I said he was good to me. We just lost the passion for each other quickly. We were too young and, honestly, back then I was very vain and selfish. So was he. We feed off of each other's vanity. I guess you know now why I really know more about production than I let on before." Lora looked over at him.
"Why did you stop the show? It was good. You're a great celebrity reporter. I even saw you had done some commentary for OWV wrestling shows on the side."
She laughed, "I can't believe you saw that. Checking up on me, huh Hunter? Anyway, I tried to keep my career going after the divorce. But, helping Tim's mom got hard on me. Seeing their life woke me up. I realized that all the glam life wasn't important. Working with people with disabilities really changed me. I was so self-centered and all I cared about was my social status. My aunt used to take care of me as a kid. My parents worked a lot to provide for me and my brothers. Aunt Mildred was like my big older sister. When she got sick I felt like I needed to be there for her like she always was for me and my parents. She is a bad diabetic and, we almost lost her once. Tim is so good at helping too. He knows just what to do. He looked it up on that dang computer and taught himself to give her shots and, what to do if her sugar gets low. He taught his little sister too. He is so smart." Lora smiled knowing how proud she was of the boy.
"You did a lot of stuff. I saw mostly charity things. You seem to have been pretty involved." Hunter looked down at his phone.
"I had to stop doing the charity work and, the social scene too. I had to help her with Tim and Abby after she left her husband. Until she got her health under control, but she's doing good now. I miss that life sometimes. My ex did help me to get in the right circles to do the charity stuff and, on TV. I will never forget him for that. We are still friends. He even checks on Tim and takes him places all the time. He coaches the basketball team and, is the one who helped Tim with the bully situation. I just can't stand he still acts like a teenager himself. I liked going out and, meeting people back then. Being a reporter was fun. I love to perform. I guess now I just live vicariously through watching you and, helping the other talent." Lora let out a breath and Hunter got quiet again.
"I think you are still that woman, Lora. Just now from what you said, you're just more grounded. We all have to grow up. You're so full of life. I'm really glad we met. You're a great person." Hunter rubbed her shoulder.
"You are too, Hunter. Steph didn't know what she had. She was a lucky woman. I'm blessed to have such a great boss. And, honestly. I feel like you're becoming...my...best friend." Lora got up and grabbed her coat. "We better go. I'll help you get the party ready."
Hunter got up and took her hand pulling her back to him. "You see me as your friend?"
"Yes. I know you're just my boss. It's probably not ok that I see you that way. But, you're so good to me. No one has shown me as much kindness as you have outside of my family in a long time." Lora smiled and squeezing his hand.
Hunter pulled her into his arms and hugged her. "I'm glad. I feel the same way. Just because I'm your boss doesn't mean we can't be friends."
They headed to the party in Hunters Hummer SUV. She helped him get ready for everyone to arrive. Once everyone arrived Lora went and sat in the living room area playing with the girls and, chatting with the wives. Hunter just sat watching Lora.
Aurora got up and stood next to Lora. "Miss Lora, can I braid your hair? I'm learning. Grandma is teaching me."
"Sure sweety." Lora let her extremely long hair down and Hunter's full attention went to as her head swayed releasing her long brown locks. Shawn watching on saw his friends reaction. She removed her glasses and, looked up seeing Hunter looking at her intently. He had never seen her with her hair down and without her huge glasses on. Lora smiled sweetly and, went back to playing dolls with Murphy. Aurora braided her hair and Lora talked with Rebecca, Shawn's wife, about how they met.
"Miss Lora, you're pretty with your glasses off. You have nice eyes. They are blue like the sky." Aurora played with Lora's face.
"Thank you. You have nice eyes too pumpkin. I hate my glasses. I lost my contacts when I moved here. I need to get new ones. They are big, aren't they? Make me look like a bug. A big-eyed bug monster...a big…..TICKLE MONSTER!" Lora started tickling the girls. And the girls giggled and trying to wriggle away. Hunter smiled ear to ear seeing her with the girls.
During halftime, Hunter went into the kitchen to grab a beer. Shawn followed, "So buddy, you still going to deny you don't have a thing for your cute little assistant?"
"Shawn stop. We are just friends." Hunter shut the refrigerator door turning to Shawn with a scowl on his face.
"Don't give me that crap. You can't keep your eyes off her." Shawn grabbed a water from the counter.
"I don't know Shawn." Hunter sat at the island. "It's not like that. I just can't figure her out. She's so...different. We have a lot of fun together." Hunter started smiling again thinking about her laugh. "Something in me just wants to know more about her. She's great isn't she?"
"She is. Everyone at work speaks highly over her." Shawn smiled knowing Hunter was starting to have feelings for her.
"Anyway, we are just friends so stop trying to put that stuff in my head." Hunter got up to head back to watch the rest of the game.
"I didn't say a word," Shawn smirked knowing his best friend was trying to hide his real feelings.
