Chapter 11: Junkyard Match and Sora Revealed Part 1

The match of the junk yard was only moments away and both teams were ready to go. While waiting for the gym to be set up, Sora went to change into her uniform. Once she was done, she walked out and noticed two figures. She turned around to see Kuroo, who had his usual annoying grin on his face and Kenma, expressionless as expected. Sora didn't know how to feel about the situation. Of course, she was excited to see her two friends, since it had been a while since she had last seen them. On the other hand, she was angry that they didn't tell her they attended Nekoma, even though both knew she went to Karasuno. Not once did they mention that fact.

"Yo, Sora." Kuroo greeted.

She looked at the boy and sighed.

"Care to explain something to me?" she asked irritably.

Kuroo grinned. "About...?"

"About why you didn't tell me you attend Nekoma!" she nearly yelled.

"You never asked."

"You're right about that, but you could have at least mentioned who you were playing in your text last night!" Sora shouted.

"I thought you would catch on." Kuroo smirked.

Sora sighed again and looked at Kenma, who flinched.

"Kuroo told me not to say anything." Kenma muttered.

"That doesn't mean you listen!"

"Demo, he said he'll take my games if I didn't."

Sora rubbed the back of her head.

"Aww, don't be like that. Aren't you glad to see us?" Kuroo hummed.

Sora looked at the two boys and smiled.

"Of course I am. I'm just surprised that we are seeing each other like this after so long."

Kuroo grinned and rubbed the back of his head. "You're right about that. But I'm glad you're here playing volleyball."

Sora smiled. "Yeah, so am I."

Both boys smiled at her. Suddenly, someone called Kuroo and Kenma to hurry and come to the gym.

"Looks like it's time." Kuro grinned.

Sora smirked. "Un, don't make it easy for us. You too, Kenma."

The small teenager looked at her and nodded. "Wakata."

As the two boys walked away, Sora quickly ran back to her team. After both teams warmed up, they all lined up to begin the match.

"We now begin the practice match between Nekoma High School versus Karasuno High School!" the referee announced.

"Let's play!"

Everyone took their assigned positions. Sora began to observe both teams. She could tell that Nekoma was more experienced and prepared for the match than her team was. She had confidence in them, though she was slightly worried. She knew this match wasn't going to be easy, especially since she watched Kuroo and Kenma practice before. As much as she didn't want to admit it, she knew they were going to be the most difficult to handle. She looked at her teammates and grinned.

Well, we have some trouble makers as well.

The whistle blew and the match began with Karasuno unleashing their quick attack, securing the first point. The Nekoma team was taken aback. Takeda-sensei and Ukai-san both smirked. Sora chuckled. The match continued and Karasuno took the next point, but Sora noticed something about their libero.

"Their libero is trouble." Nishinoya commented.

Sugawara looked confused and was about to ask. Before he had the chance, he had to leave and get back to his position.

"He's right." Sora stated.

"What do you mean?" Sugawara asked.

"That libero…When Asahi-san's spike hit, he was already prepared to receive it. Usually, a libero has to observe an opponent to determine the rotation of the spike and a defensive strategy. This libero, on the other hand, was already prepared." Sora explained.

She took out a notebook and began to take notes.

"I feel that this is going be a troublesome team."

Ukai looked at the girl and then back at the match.

As the match continued Karasuno gained the lead. Nekoma took the first time-out, leaving the team down 07-10. Sora looked over at the other team and knew they had an ace up their sleeve. She glanced at the coach, who had a mischievous grin on his face. She didn't like it, but it reminded her of someone. She shrugged it off and went back to her position. The match resumed, and what Sora feared came true. Nekoma had figured her team out. Though they were behind in points, they were taking them back step by step. Sora looked at Kenma, who was congratulated by his team for making a good play.

"So you're the mastermind, Kenma."

The Nekoma setter felt a slight chill run down his back.

"What's wrong Kenma?" his teammate asked.

"I feel like someone is staring at me."

"Huh?! Who is it?!" the tall male shouted as he began shooting glares, but stopped when he saw Sora staring. He began to blush and backed away slowly.

"Another female manager?!" the boy yelled.

"That's not their manager, Yamamoto. She's a player." Kuroo explained.

"Eh, are you serious?!" Yamato shouted.

"She been observing us the whole time." Nekoma's libero stated.

"That's impressive, to have a girl on the team," the tall, tan male said.

"Sora isn't just any regular player. Hopefully, she will be given the chance to show her skills." Kuroo spoke.

The match started again, with Nekoma taking the lead with a score of 24-22. If Karasuno missed this point, her team would lose the set.

"Kageyama. I'll slam the next one. Give me a toss," Hinata proclaimed.

"It's their set point. If you miss, we'll lose the set."

"I know. I'll score."

But sadly, Hinata was stopped. Ending the first set at 22-25. Karasuno gathered to prepare for the next point. Hinata was disappointed that he was blocked.

"Hey, we can't afford to get discouraged! We'll take back the next set." Kageyama declared.

"There's no such thing as an unstoppable spike. Don't think otherwise." Ukai declared.

"You'll score next time, Hinata." Tanaka reassured.

"Wham!" Nishinoya yelled.

Hinata looked at his team.

"Yes."

Sora smiled and looked at the Nekoma team. She clenched her hands into fists. Ukai looked at the girl. He knew that she wanted to be a support for her team, but he was still unsure about putting her in a match full of males. Yes, she was one of the most skilled players on the team, but playing against males is another issue. But…

"What wrong?" Takeda asked.

Ukai snapped out of his trance. "Ah, it's nothing,"

The next set began, and Hinata continued to get stopped. Ukai decided to stop Tsukishima from switching in. The tall male glanced at him dubiously.

"You're wondering why I don't switch Hinata out, aren't you?"

Tsukishima straightened up. "Not really."

"If this were an official tournament, I might. But this is my chance to find a solution. But if Hinata starts to lose his will to fight, it might be better to let him sit this one out."

"Do you really believe that?" Sora questioned.

Ukai turned his attention towards her.

"If it was any other player, I would agree with you. But from what I've seen, Hinata isn't the type to give up."

Ukai looked at the girl and then back at the match. Hinata got stopped again, but he was surprised to see that Hinata looked actually… excited. Everyone in the room felt that aura coming from him.

Sora smiled. "His will to fight only grows when he meets an obstacle to overcome. He will never give up and he'll keep striving to get better."

Ukai looked at her. Her eyes were filled with amazement, but you could see the fire in her eyes as well. The match continued, Karasuno was down 5 to 7. The match proceeded and Hinata was still getting blocked, but this next play surprised everyone. Hinata had his eyes opened. Though he missed the ball, everyone was still shocked.

"That toss... Did Hinata just…" Sugawara trailed off.

"Un, he did!" Sora said excitedly.

"He saw it." Yamaguchi said.

"He trusted Kageyama with the ball all this time! All he ever did was give it a full swing…"

Ukai immediately called a time out.

Kageyama walked over to the small middle blocker, who tensed up.

"It's not that I didn't trust your toss, umm… I wonder." Hinata explained.

Kageyama gave a confused expression. "What are you panicking about?" he replied calmly.

"Kageyama. Give Hinata a softer toss than normally. Not the usual direct delivery." Ukai said.

"An indirect delivery?" Kageyama questioned.

"With an indirect delivery, it will allow Hinata to see the toss easier." Sora explained.

"Ah, that way you can aim the ball directly into Hinata's hand. Do you think you can do it?"

Kageyama nodded and everyone went to take their positions.

"Sora." Ukai called.

"Hai."

"Get ready to go in."

Sora looked at the coach with a confused expression. "Eh?"
