Chapter 10 Small Revelations
Like clockwork an alarm blares at 6:00 am waking the youngest Berry from sleep. Ryan groans and turns off the alarm. The brunette stretches as he sits up. The geeky boy pulls on a pair of basketball shorts and running shoes. He goes downstairs to the kitchen where grabs a water bottle before heading downstairs deciding to have his daily run on the treadmill.
An hour later Ryan emerges from the basement, and goes to take a shower. Once out of the shower the brunette dresses in an usual combination for him.
He was used to wearing dress pants, button ups, and argyle sweaters. Unfortunately for him those options were dirty, Ryan had forgot to wash his clothes. So the brunette dressed in a pair of dark tan chinos, a plain white t-shirt, and a pair of white slip on vans.
Ryan looked at himself in the mirror and sighed. He felt slightly naked with out his argyle sweaters. The brunette checked the time, he only had 15 minutes to get to school. Ryan cut his loses and grabbed a gray cardigan from his closet, quickly tucking in his shirt as he grabbed his keys. He rushed down the stairs and grabbed the insulated lunch bag Hilary was holding out for him. Ryan rushed out a thank you and a goodbye as he hurried out of the house.
Ryan made it to school with five minutes to spare. He quickly made his way to his locker. The brunette buttoned his sweater, swapped lunch for his messenger bag making sure everything he needed was in there, and ran a few fingers through his curly mane so it didn't look as disheveled.
By the time Ryan made it to first period everyone else was already in their seats. The brunette spotted the only unoccupied seat, which was in the back by Quinn. The brunette took his seat just as the late bell rung.
Quinn leaned closer to the boy next to her. "Running late are we?"
"I couldn't find anything to wear." Ryan whispered back.
The blonde turns her head so she can get a good look at the brunette. She runs her eyes up and down his frame. She could definitely tell he wasn't wearing his usual get up but Quinn would be lying if she said that she didn't appreciate what Ryan was wearing. The outfit suited him and wasn't baggy like his other clothes were. His t-shirt and cardigan combination hugged his torso nicely highlighting the muscles Quinn knew was there.
The blonde clicks her tongue before responding. "I don't know. I think I like this outfit more than the others. It really shows off your assets." Quinn sends a wink Ryan's way.
"Thank you Quinn but it'll be ruined by lunch, I'll wouldn't be surprised if I got slushied going to next period." The brunette said glumly.
"That's where you're wrong . While you were at home doing a fashion show I was here making it very clear that the slushy attacks were stopping. You wouldn't believe who was also on the same page as me."
Ryan lets Quinn's words soak in. He didn't think the blonde would stop the slushies. Sure they were friends now but that didn't change the fact that he was more or less the school loser and Quinn was..well Quinn was Quinn. No matter the reasoning Ryan appreciated the action.
"Thank you Quinn."
Quinn nods in acknowledgment. "Don't you wanna know who supported my statement also."
Ryan rolls his eyes and smiles. "Sure, who was it?"
"Santana."
The brunette eye's grow wide at this. Sure they had come to a tentative truce last night but Ryan didn't think it would carry over to the next day.
The head cheerleader giggles at Ryan's comical reaction. "I thought the same thing."
"Ms. Fabray, Mr. Berry, do you have something you want to share with class?" Mrs. Winston asked from the front of the classroom interrupting the two teens conversation.
Quinn sits up straight, Ryan following suit. "No, sorry Mrs. Winston."
The English teacher nods, "Please pay attention from now on."
The two nods in understanding. Mrs. Winston turns back to the chalkboard and continues the lesson.
Ryan was on his way to third period when Santana and Brittany fell into step with him.
"Sup Berry."
"Santana, hi Brittany."
The bubbly blonde smiles, "Hey Ryan."
"So I was thinking we should practice at the lunch."
The geeky boy was slightly stunned that the Latina wanted to practice at lunch but decided not to look at gift horse in the mouth.
"Sounds good to me."
"See you in the auditorium then Berry." With that Santana turns down the hall, Brittany in tow. The blondes waves goodbye, and Ryan returns it before entering his classroom.
~Lunch In The Auditorium~
Ryan and Santana were sitting on the edge of the stage, their lunches by their side. They had perfected the blocking for their duet and rehearsed the song before deciding that they had made good progress. The performance was fairly simple since the song would be stripped down to show emotion.
Ryan took a bite of vegan lettuce wrap as Santana produced a salad and a grayish drink in a blender bottle from her book bag.
"What is that?" Ryan nodded towards the bottle a slight grimace on his face.
"Death in a bottle. Coach makes us drink one of these will every meal. It takes like shit."
"How horrible. Do you want a bottle of water? I have an extra one."
Ryan hands a bottle of water to Santana who graciously accepts the offering.
"You know your too nice Berry."
The brunette male shrugs in response.
"So what's up with you and Q?"
Ryan chokes on his food. He takes a huge gulp of water after clearing his air passages. "W-What do you mean? We're friends."
"Mhmm, sure."
"What is that supposed to mean?"
Santana rolls her eyes slightly annoyed. "It means that I see pass your "friendship". I know you Quinn have only been friends for a couple of days but she never shuts up about you. You know after the first time you guys hung out Quinn called me and Brittany to tell us all about it. She doesn't really like people and you guys have spent more time together than Finn has spent with Quinn including when they were dating. Plus this morning when she banned the slushy attacks and made sure to put extra emphasis that you were off limits." The Latina shrugs nonchalantly. "I'm not trying to play matchmaker or anything but if you like her don't be afraid to pursue her."
The bell rings signaling the ending of lunch. Santana gathers her belonging and leaves Ryan sitting on the edge of the stage clearly taking in everything she said.
Was Santana telling the truth? Even if Quinn did like me in a more romantic way, did I like her in that way? Who am I kidding of course I like Quinn. The girl was gorgeous every way, who wouldn't like Quinn. Should I go for it? That was the true question.
Ryan shakes his head clear his head. He had things to think about but right now wasn't the time for it, lest he be late for class. Ryan gathers his belongings and exits the auditorium.
