Disclaimer: This is the last chapter! It's short :(

Part of 18l wanted to do her best to try and escape from this place now that she knew she had such extraordinary powers. The other part was dominated by fear of the unknown. What if she failed and then Gero deactivated her? Deactivation was a pain worse than death. At least with death she would no longer be able to feel. Well, she decided that she would just sit here until further informed. Besides, there was something about Tao that had her riding on his words. She felt like he actually cared whether she was dead or alive. He made her feel like she had just an ounce of humanity left.

With him there, she still had something to hold onto- hope.

And it was that very hope that would see her though this hellish life she was being forced to live.

Well, that was her plan.

At least until she felt the rock underneath her quake as if a train had just crashed into it. A loud explosion sounded loudly shortly following the quaking. A scream was third in line to come up. It was one of the assistants!

"Sorry to disappoint you freaks, but we're leaving this shit hole!" 17 shrieked victoriously.

Without even having to think about what to do, her feet reacted before her mind could and led her out the cell door to the main room where all the chaos was breaking loose. Three assistants were laying on the ground in a pool of blood with holes ripped through their chests. Blood was spattered all over her brother's body. A grin was upon his face and for the first time in her entire life, 18 felt just a little scared of her brother.

"Chris!" 18 exclaimed. "What's going on?!"

"What's it look like, sis? We're breaking free of this place, what else?" 17 declared happily. Suddenly, he twisted around to find Tao behind him attempting to reach for the deactivation controller. "Oh, I don't think so!"

Right as 17 was about to grab onto Tao, 18 got in between the two of them. "Chris- no!" He stopped dead in his tracks.

"What the hell, sis? Have you lost your mind? He's one of them!" 17 argued.

"I know, Chris, but he's not like the rest of them!" 18 shot back in a panic. "Please, just trust me on this!"

Suddenly, Gero's voice sounded above the rest of them. "You insolent brats!"

Without warning, 18 felt her muscles stiffen up completely and she dropped to the floor stiffly. Pain surged through every part of her body. She wanted to cry out; scream, do anything, but she couldn't move. She couldn't turn her head to see her brother, but she was confident that he had been deactivated, too.

"Magnificent, wouldn't you say, Tao?" Gero smiled from ear to ear. "I have exactly what I wanted. Come to think of it, maybe 17 is even a bit more sadistic than 18. Good, good..."

"Yes, I would say so as well, sir," Tao agreed. "Would you like me to put them into their hibernation chambers until they are needed now?"

"Yes, yes, please go ahead and do so," Gero began to tend to the dead corpses by pushing them out of his laboratory.

18 could hear Tao lifting her brother up and putting him into something. Shortly after, she felt Tao grab her up in his arms and carry her. He placed her inside something new- an even smaller container than before. She wouldn't have been able to move in here even if she hadn't been deactivated. As he finished placing her inside of it, he looked into her ice blue eyes. She stared back into his eyes and seen graciousness in them.

"Thank you for sparing my life, my dear," He whispered to her. "I promise I will do everything in my power to set the two of you free. And remember, don't let Gero tell you that you have no humanity left in you... because, my dear, you do indeed have much humanity left within you."

She felt his lips press gently against her forehead before he pulled away and shut the door to her hibernation chamber. And after that, all was black.
