A/N: Sorry for the late update. Hope you like it though. One review stated that I should make this story M because of the content. Please give me your input. I assure you there will be no lemons or something too gory. The bad stuff had already been dealt with and over so the future chapters will not have such content, though there will still be intense drama in this series.
Chapter Eleven
Two bedrooms for each room. Three males and one female. All four stared blankly and wondered about the arrangements. Of course, nobody was going to share with Rin for she was a female, and it was indecent to do so if she were not a mistress, concubine, or wife. The problem with the sleeping arrangements lies among the three men.
Sesshomaru was adamant that he would not share a room with Inuyasha. Inuyasha, in return, said the same. Jaken was afraid of sleeping on the ground and voiced his concerns as such, which earned him a bruise on his head from Inuyasha and a glare from Sesshomaru.
"I don't mind sharing," Rin piped up, trying to be helpful. The three men stared at her incrediously. She looked at them innocently and wondered what was wrong.
"Are you crazy?/Insolent girl, do you have no decency?/That will not be a choice." The three men said in unison. Well, Inuyasha and Jaken yelled their statement out loud while Sesshomaru stated it in his normal monotone voice. Rin shrugged and sighed.
"I don't want to be alone either," Rin added, "I just- I just need someone there."
She lowered her head as if admitting it was something to be shameful of. She disliked the feeling of being weak and admitting it made her feel that way just as she felt weak when Naraku gave her punishments. She looked over at the men and saw Jaken's look of pity while Inuyasha and Sesshomaru needed to look away. Inuyasha and Sesshomaru had thought back to Rin's torture under Naraku's clutches, making them feel angry inside.
Rin had to look away herself for she could not take any looks of pity towards her. It's hard to heal for her when those pitying looks remind her of the torture she had to go through. Thankfully, the travels helped her to heal little by little even if it was only baby steps. Even though her nightmares are ever present, she no longer hid in fright for days on end.
She stared at Sesshomaru. As much as she wanted to, she couldn't hate or be angry at him for too long. It wasn't in her nature to do so, but it didn't mean she still did not fear him. For a while now, she concluded that she could never look at Sesshomaru the same.
She had always looked up to Sesshomaru, loved him for always protecting her and saving her on time. But the thought of him, the man who has always cared for her, sending her away to her doom, hurt her that much more. The flame that used to make Rin happy and hyper diminished, and Rin doesn't know if she would ever have that flame back.
"It is still indecent," Sesshomaru stated.
Rin frowned and nodded until she suddenly had an idea. Her smile widened as if her idea was able to solve the issue.
"I can sleep outside on the roof," Rin suggested in an innocent tone. Inuyasha and Sesshomaru stared at her with Inuyasha showing his disbelief while Sesshomaru showed nothing on his expression.
"No way, Rinny," Inuyasha told her, folding his arms against the idea.
"If someone was to sleep outside, it should be the half-breed and Jaken," Sesshomaru stated. Inuyasha turned and glared at his half-brother.
"Ha ha, Sesshomaru. It should be you and Jaken sleeping outside," Inuyasha argued back.
"I don't want to sleep outside," squeaked Jaken in the background.
"But I'm actually perfectly fine sleeping on the roof. I've done it tons of times, and it actually soothes me," Rin told them with a smile, "Don't worry about this Rin. I'll be fine."
"No," Sesshomaru simply stated.
Rin sighed and crossed her arms with her cheeks puffed in unhappiness. Sesshomaru's breath hitched to see his child-like Rin return. It had been a while Rin acted like this, and he felt incredibly satisfied to see that side of Rin again. He could feel his control slipping, but he held on. He couldn't let her get her way. What would happen if someone attacks her while she sleeps? No, he wasn't going to take that chance.
"If it is like that then I shall sleep outside with you," Sesshomaru stated. Jaws were dropped including Rin's.
"But Prin- I mean Sesshomaru, you can't!" Jaken shouted but Sesshomaru glared at him. Jaken gulped and quieted immediately.
"Do not call me, Sesshomaru. It's Mr. Sesshomaru, and you have no say what I do, Jaken," Sesshomaru ordered in a threatening tone. Jaken gulped once again and nodded.
Rin was confused now and wondered if she should call him Mr. Sesshomaru too. And of course, Rin, with a mind of her own, stated it out loud. Sesshomaru looked over to her before pulling her to him. Her body against his. Rin felt uncomfortable and was about to pull away, but Sesshomaru had a good grip on her waist for her not to.
"I gave you permission to call me, Sesshomaru, did I not?" Sesshomaru asked. Rin blushed and nodded. "Then do not call me anything else besides my name." Rin nodded again.
"C-could you... uh... l-let me... um... go now, Se-Sesshomaru?" Rin stuttered. Realizing she could feel his heat against her own, she couldn't stop her heart from speeding and hammering against her chest. She just hoped Sesshomaru didn't notice not only her heart but the heat pooling on her face.
Sesshomaru let her go and saw Rin's face redden. He felt his stomach churning and instantly laid the back of his hand against Rin's forehead. It was pretty warm, but he wasn't taking a chance of her getting sick.
"Are you ill, Rin? Your face is red," Sesshomaru told her.
Inuyasha looked over at Rin and tried to stifle a laugh. It was really weird to see that his brother was quite naive when it came to feelings of crushes and love. But then again, Inuyasha was like that as well before he met Kikyo. His laughter faltered when he had come to a realization; Rin had a crush on his brother. That was not a good sign. Sesshomaru had said countless times that there was no need for love and he had no care for it. Love was a weakness and Sesshomaru has no need for weaknesses. Inuyasha scowled at his brother's cold statement. For Rin to have fallen for Sesshomaru, Inuyasha could feel a tug at his heart from the thought of Rin getting hurt in the end by Sesshomaru. After all, Inuyasha knew what it felt like. It was rather one of the feelings he did not want anybody to endure, especially Rin. Sweet, innocent Rin did not need the pains and woes of a painful love. A lost love.
"Even if you do want to sleep outside, Rin, where will you sleep?" Inuyasha asked, though he kind of knew the answer because he had slept there plenty of times before when he traveled.
"Oh, simple! On the roof," Rin stated excitedly. It had been a while she slept on a roof of a house. One time, when Rin used to travel with Sesshomaru, they had went into a village. There were no inns there, so they slept on the roof of a kind and gentle citizen. It was a beautiful sight sleeping on there though. The stars shone so bright and beautiful that Rin somehow could feel their warmth.
"It would be cold tonight. I don't want you to get sick," Sesshomaru told her. Rin looked unpreturbed by the news.
"That is why I always bring an extra blanket just in case," Rin sang. Her eyes suddenly turned pleadingly at Sesshomaru. It was a long time he had seen her look at him with such eyes. He felt that hard thump of his heart against his chest again.
"Do as you like, but I will sleep on the roof with you," Sesshomaru stated. Rin's eyes widened and her right foot started fidgeting nervously.
"B- but Mr. Sesshomaru! You can't! It is beneath you to sleep on a dirty place such as the roof!" yelled Jaken. A glare had been given to Jaken by Sesshomaru which made Jaken instantly become quiet.
Inuyasha scoffed and spoke up.
"I'll sleep on the roof with Rin. Like Jaken said, it's beneath you," Inuyasha stated, walking towards Rin and laid his arm lazily on Rin's shoulder, making Rin blush in discomfort.
"I only carried an extra blanket for myself, but I can give it to you instead," Rin informed. She noticed Sesshomaru and Inuyasha were doing their usual glaring contest except this time it seemed more tense and serious like it was a life or death situation.
She never did like it when the Taisho brothers are like this. The animosity between them used to be only sibling rivalry after Rin became Sesshomaru's servant for a while, but the intensity of their animosity had gotten more heavier when they found her in Naraku's dungeon. She knew about Inuyasha blaming Sesshomaru for everything that happened to Rin, and she knew about Sesshomaru's dislike for Inuyasha because Rin was now Inuyasha's servant. Usually, Rin would do something about it, but Rin was no longer capable to take away the heavy tension between the brothers. She no longer had the drive to make those two work things out anymore with her own problems.
Her fight against her nightmares had taken quite a toll on her, and her fight with that small voice inside her head to give up life had created further problems with her health. One thing Rin knew very well about her problems is her health. She always felt like vomitting every time she awoke from her nightmares, and she actually did vomit at times when her nightmares got too intense for her. They never knew how sometimes she felt like hanging herself to end all the pain. But she didn't. She fought that thought every time she thought of Inu no Taisho, Izayoi, Jaken, Kaede, Totosai, Inuyasha, and even Sesshomaru. She couldn't do that to them, no matter how much in pain she is in because they were worth more than her own life.
She let out a sigh before holding one of Inuyasha's hand and the other holding Sesshomaru's hand. With all her courage, she looked directly to Sesshomaru's eyes and then averted her eyes to Inuyasha.
"Please, both of you. Don't fight over such a small matter. I can sleep on the roof alone," Rin stated with finality in her voice before letting their hands go.
"But Rin-" Inuyasha started to oppose but Rin glared at him. Though it didn't seem intimidating at all, it always fazed Inuyasha in some way. And of course, it automatically shut him up.
Rin looked over to Sesshomaru and crossed her arms.
"As for you, Sesshomaru, I don't know why you are making such a big deal out of this. Why do you even care?" Rin asked, her eyes staring at him with an intensity that only Rin could cause. Sesshomaru could feel the effects of her stare but showed none of what he is feeling.
"This Sesshomaru does not care, but you are my responsibility," he stated. Rin sighed and shook her head. For some reason, Sesshomaru could see the disappointment in her expression. What does it mean?
Rin was disappointed. As much as she did, she couldn't cope with Sesshomaru anymore. His disregard to anything except his own personal interests made Rin realize Sesshomaru was not the same person she knew since young. He's changed. She could no longer see the Sesshomaru she used to love. No more. She was way too tired to fight for him.
"I understand, Sesshomaru. But I have one favor from you, Sesshomaru. I hope you will grant it," Rin stated, her voice serious as her stare. She had to end this animosity.
"What is it?" Sesshomaru asked, "If I can grant it, I shall." But for some reason, he could feel some sort of discomfort at her tone as if he felt unsettled of what she may say next.
"During our travels, please get along with Inuyasha. You don't need to like each other, but the way you two are acting is making me feel regret in traveling," Rin stated truthfully.
Sesshomaru stared at her for a moment then to Inuyasha, who made a face of utter horror. He sighed and nodded. Rin smiled up at him before suddenly hugging him tightly. This feeling felt warm. It felt familiar. It felt... right. But it didn't last long, however, because Rin let go of him all too soon.
"But in exchange, I shall sleep on the roof with you," Sesshomaru stated. Rin gaped for a moment before letting out a child-like pout.
"Deal," she muttered, "but I only have an extra blanket for one person though."
Sesshomaru smirked and said, "It would be of no consequence. Jaken will give me his blanket in his room."
"What?" Jaken yelled, his eyes widening in surprise.
Sesshomaru turned to look at him with a glare and his lips were about to be upturned, but Jaken squawked in fear. Jaken had a horrible fear of Sesshomaru smiling. It was never good if he did because it meant unimaginable torture or death, which Jaken wanted to avoid.
"Yes, of course, Mr. Sesshomaru!"
"But Sesshomaru, it's going to be cold tonight. I could give you my extra blanket and Jaken could keep his," Rin stated, feeling bad for the mistreatment of the advisor. She always had a soft spot for Jaken no matter how annoying he is.
Jaken had tears in his eyes for such kindness he got from Rin.
"Oh, Rin. How could I ever repay you?" Jaken cried dramatically, hugging the giggling young woman.
Sesshomaru stared in dislike towards Jaken. Rin was comfortable with getting hugged by Jaken, and it made him, for some odd reason, unhappy. And since Jaken had the audacity to touch what belonged to him, he would make sure the little man would suffer quite a bit which meant Jaken would sleep in the cold all night. Also, he did not want Rin to get sick. It was his duty to keep her healthy and safe, and that was what he will do.
"Jaken," Sesshomaru called out to him coldly. Jaken let go of Rin immediately and turned his head slowly to the prince. He gulped at his expressionless face. Of course, Jaken knew that he would never get warm tonight.
"I change my mind. You can have my blanket, Mr. Sesshomaru," Jaken answered quickly. Poor Jaken.
