Two years later
Spencer heard a noise and his hand went straight to his belt, where his gun was. He turned on the light to find that a piece of tupperware had fallen off his kitchen counter. Spencer sighed and picked it up. The past 12 months was tough, but he had to remind himself that slow progress was still progress. He was excused from work for over a month so he could have therapy. He was forever grateful for the paid leave that Hotch had given him. When he came back to work, his therapy sessions were less frequent but just as important.
As he saw his friends come out of their cars, all dress up with their own wrapped parts of the dinner to eat, Spencer smiled. As he turned to the door, he noticed a quote he wrote on the wall near his couch. A quote that he used as a mantra that helped him mentally whenever he didn't want to bother Morgan over the phone. He breathed a deep breath a read it out loud.
""Everyone heals in their own time and in their own way. The path isn't always a straight line, and you don't need to go it alone. Zeke Thomas."
He smiled as the quote came into full meaning again.
Because he knew it was the truth.
