Hey guys, sorry for the long wait, especially after the cliffhanger XD I'm so sorry; I got caught up in a lot of drama. (I mean show drama.) So, without further delay, the next chapter.

Chapter Eleven: Friend or foe

"Hmm? Oh what happened?" Marie looked up from her paperwork as the door to her hotel swung open to reveal Tsubaki half carrying Black*Star across the threshold. Tsubaki shook her head, her black ponytail swaying with the movement,

"Black*Star got drunk. We didn't know that butterbeer was alcoholic."

Marie rolled her eyes, "you kids. This is work, not holiday." Tsubaki suspected that Marie had some butterbeer, for her to be so laid back.
Though, they all felt pretty useless. They were sat there waiting for Soul and Maka to find the kishin, and even then they may not be needed to destroy it. So there was no real harm in doing a little sightseeing.

-Soul & Maka's POV-

You could hear the twigs popping as clear as thunder as the four stood in the clearing. Maka was holding Soul, who was still in scythe form as she stared in shock at Hagrid and the young boy who she assumed was the Kishin egg.

Finally, she recovered and said in a small voice "and who's this?"

The small boy with white hair stepped forward, "m-my name's Shiku." he said quietly, with a small smile on his lips.

"I found 'im all by himself in the fores', see." Hagrid said wringing his hands, "I jus' couldn' leave 'im."

Maka hesitated, she could feel Soul itching to destroy the boy but she couldn't. She couldn't bring herself to believe that this was the Kishin egg causing mayhem and death all over the school. It seemed impossible, she wanted to think that her soul detect had made a mistake. And yet she knew it couldn't.

"What are you doing Maka, don't you remember-'it's not shape or form that matters, it's the soul that counts.'" Soul yelled from his scythe form. Maka tightened her grip on the weapon but couldn't bring herself to move forward.

"Hagrid...how long ago did you find Shiku?" Maka said quietly, her teeth gritted. Hagrid shrugged,

"since aroun' September, when I was returnin' from...buisness. Why?"

Since September, when Maka and Soul had first arrived. That meant that the Kishin egg had been wandering around the forest for at least the summer, which was when it appeared on Lord Death's radar. That made sense. What didn't is how Hagrid couldn't see how dangerous the kishin egg was.

"Hagrid, I don't think you quite understand...what Shiku is." when she spoke it was in a slow, gentle tone. She didn't want to hurt Hagrid, or scare him by telling him everything-he was a nice guy. She didn't want him hurt. Certainly not from a person he clearly trusted.
"Sure I do,'e's a wizard. I've seen it." Hagrid was so certain he was doing the right thing that Maka bit her lip as she hesitated to tell him the truth. Soul seemed to have no issue however,

"Hagrid, that's no wizard! That's a kishin egg, a disaster just waiting to happen! He's the one causing all the trouble at the castle!" the scythe yelled, Hagrid frowned at it, only now realizing what the scythe was. If he thought it was odd, he decided not to comment,

"Codswallop-he wouldn' hur' a fly."

"A-actually..." Maka tried to intervene,

"He jus' needs a little help controlling his power is all." Hagrid cut across, Maka looked at her scythe, Soul's image had appeared in the blade. She could see he was starting to falter too, maybe Hagrid was right. The boy wasn't a full blown Kishin yet, though he was well on the way, maybe there was a small chance that his soul could turn to light. It was only then that Maka realized she needed to tell Stein. That was the perfect solution right then, Stein could make the ultimate descision.

Maka dropped Soul in the haste of her descision, he immeadiately shifted back into human form, an angry expression on his features. "Maka-what was that for?!" he yelled in frustration at his meister, rubbing his head where it was thrown againt the ground.

"You stay here-I need to find Professor Stein." Maka garbled, before she turned on her boot heel and started to run off into the forest. She didn't get further than the edge of the clearing before she turned back. "Wrong way." she muttered, setting off in the opposite direction.
The three boys watched this differently, Soul mostly in shock, Hagrid in confusion and Shiku in somewhat humour.

As Maka crashed off, Hagrid started to follow her, Shiku caught the edge of his giant brown coat. "Wait...where are you going?" he frowned, his pale eyebrows creasing. Hagrid turned, and bent down and ruffled Shiku's pearly curls.

"I've jus' gotta make sure she doesn' run inter any trouble. Ya know how the centaurs are actin'" with that, Hagrid stood back up and started to follow Maka, Soul looked in their direction for a second, then snapped his attention back to Shiku.

"How are the centaurs acting?" he demanded, the coldness he showed to the smaller boy would be obvious to anyone.

"Well," as the boy spoke, he fiddled with the hem of his crumpled white shirt, "they're getting restless and stressed. They're not as welcoming to people in their forest as they've been in the past. Hagrid says that the ministry are restricting their territory."

"Why would they do that?"

"They say that the centaurs are 'half-breeds' so they're not as important as humans. Isn't that terrible?" Shiku looked up at Soul with pale grey eyes, Soul blinked his own blood coloured ones. It confused him how a kishin egg would feel that way. He then half turned away from the boy.

"So...kid, how did you end up here?" he said casually, acting as though he was trying to make conversation when really with the information Shiku held they could seek out another powerful witch.

The boy stayed silent so long that Soul turned back to him and saw that he was staring into space. Soul nudged Shiku, "hey, you okay?"
Shiku shook his head slowly, "I-I..." he stammered, Soul noticed the smaller boy's hair had gotten darker by a few shades. "Do you want to take me back there?" Shiku murmured, his voice soft, it was Soul's turn to shake his head-

"That's not it at all!" he said, unfortunately Shiku didn't appear to hear him. His hands were clenched at his sides and as he yelled up at Soul, watery tears were at the corners of his eyes.

"You're lying!" the boy was yelling now, Soul stepped back in shock from the sudden change.

Abruptly a change underwent Shiku, his hair darkened into a shade of ebony, his teeth lengthened into fangs as he cried at Soul. Shadows spewed from Shiku's very skin, and Soul raised an arm in front of his face to protect himself, if the boy had been an angel like Hagrid claimed, then he had made a very quick decent into a devil.

"Calm down-I'm not going to take you back-I don't even know where you came from!" Soul yelled, closing his eyes against the onslaught of shadows spewing from Shiku. He felt himself sliding backwards, and soon hit a tree trunk. "STOP!" he cried in desperation.

For a while it didn't, then bit by bit the shadows slowly decreased. Cautiously, Soul peered up from behind his orange jacket to see Shiku on his knees, looking down. His hair was back to normal, there would've been no evidence that the outburst had happened at all, apart from the trees being stripped bare of bark. Golden sap was oozing out of one, dropping onto the patchy grass.

"K-kid?" Soul called out, taking a half-step forwards, a sniffling could be heard. Soul's mind was whirring from the event that just happened. That was the Kishin egg's power it appeared, Soul figured that powers like that counted as a weapon, well the surroundings showed that.
Soul eventually crept up to the kid and put an arm round Shiku's shoulders, he shook him slightly, "not a cool question, but are you okay?" not surprisingly Shiku shook his head.

"I-I'm sorry," a small voice came from the huddle of curls, Soul blinked-was it apologising? "I don't mean to, I swear...I just I can't control my temper...or fear...or any emotion really." Shiku raised his head to meet Soul's, his eyes were red with tears.

There was an awkward moment during which Soul tried to decide what to do. His first instinct was to comfort the boy, yet every bone in him was yelling at him to destroy the Kishin egg whilst it was vulnerable.

He really hoped that Maka found Stein soon.

-Maka's POV-

Maka burst through the last branches, they grasped at her blazer and gloves, yet she didn't stop. She could see Stein's tell-tale grey hair in the distance, he was talking to a couple of students. She could hear Hagrid thumping through the undergrowth behind her, but there was only one thing on her mind-find Stein.

She glanced back to see if Hagrid was near her, yet found herself with a face full of sponge. She was buffeted backwards, her feet tangled and she stumbled but didn't fall.

"Oh, Miss Albarn there you are!" Umbridge cried, Harry, Ron and Hermione were behind her, looking uncomfortable.

"Oh, I was just looking for Professor Stein." Maka said politely, trying to skirt around the pink woman.

"What's the problem dear? I'm sure I could help." Umbridge looked beyond Maka to the forest, thankfully Hermione intervened.
"But Professor, I think I heard something over there."

"Yeah, something with black wings." Ron caught on, starting off in that direction, Harry blinked,

"I didn't see anything." Harry declared, both Hermione and Ron glared at him, his green eyes were blank for a moment before he suddenly understood, "b-but I'm pretty sure there's something over there."

"Maybe you should stay with these three." Maka nodded at her, before she dodged around her and started running to Stein. He had noticed her now and was calmly walking towards her, a hint of a smile of his face.

She skidded to a halt in front of him, bringing specks of mud flying, her chest heaving from the run and the adrenaline.

"You found the Kishin egg then." Stein smirked, Maka nodded, the action causing her pigtails to wiggle.

"But-but it's just a kid. He doesn't seem dangerous at all-"

"It's not the shape or form-"

"-that matters, it's the soul-I know. His soul's not entirely Kishin, there may be a chance to save it." the girl explained, Stein barely had time to reply before Hagrid had caught up, the two were so engrossed in their conversation that they hardly noticed him.

"Maka, we can't convert every Kishin to our side. We were lucky with Crona. What if you get hurt?"

"We can't kill him!"

"Yer no' planning to kill Shiku, are you?" Hagrid interupted, looking at the two dismayingly. Maka cried "no" and Stein simply said "yes."

"Please Professor, Hagrid's been taking care of him."

Stein turned to Hagrid at this, "so you've been feeding him human souls? Judging by the look on your face I'd take that as a no. But he's been getting them from somewhere." he brought a hand to his face as he thought, as Stein's eyes fixated onto the ground, Maka's green eyes caught Hagrid's dark ones.

She desperately sent him a look saying that she wasn't going to let Shiku die, whatever the cost, but if he got her message he didn't show a reaction. Someone coughed behind them.

"The sickness!" Stein suddenly exclaimed, Hagrid turned to him,

"Wha' the ruddy hell are you talking abou'?!" he demanded, Stein wound his screw in a turn or two more, the coughing intensified behind them.

"The sickness that has been overcoming students, that's caused by the Kishin. He must be taking their soul's indirectly and that's why they've been dying. We have to see Dumbledore about this, to see how far this egg's going to become a Kishin."

"And if he's not at all close, we can keep him?" Maka asked hopefully, Stein shrugged in response and her heart leaped. It was absurd, but seeing a boy so small become a Kishin was heartbreaking, to the point she couldn't stand even to think about it.

"'e's a boy, not a puppy." Hagrid told her and she smiled sheepishly.

-Time Lapse-

Maka creaked open the heavy entrance hall door, Soul hadn't come to the common room yet and she was starting to get worried. What if Shiku was stronger than he looked? What if he was dangerous?

"I wouldn't sneak out if I were you." A drawling voice called behind her, she jumped and spun to see Draco Malfoy leaning against one of the hourglasses, his grey eyes fixated on her. "Good little girls shouldn't go out past curfew."

"Who said I was a good girl?" Maka snapped, the wind from the door blowing her skirt and hair, Malfoy smirked.

"I bet it's your first time disobeying the rules, isn't it, Maka?" he elongated her name in a way that made her wince, yet it was her turn to smirk.

"No. Where I come from, rules are more like guidlines." her hands were on her hips, Malfoy raised a pale eyebrow.

"And where do you come from?"

"Mars." Maka focused herself on keeping a straight face and was soon rewarded by Malfoy looking annoyed, before he took a step forward and closed the door. Maka narrowed her eyes.

"I'm giving you a warning, mainly because you're a little cute. Go to bed, little Maka-or I'm going to have to give you a detention." he crossed his arms as he blocked her way out.

"You can't do that!" Maka snapped, Malfoy put a pale finger to his lips.

"You ought to be quiet, else a Professor will hear. And yes I can, I'm a prefect." the light from the chandelier caught the badge, Maka gritted her teeth.

"Just let me through!" her paitence broke and she made a dash for the door, Draco chuckled as he side stepped and opened the door smoothly. Maka realized too late that she was going to fast and felt herself slip on the marble step, heading face first to the ground.
She closed her eyes, but soon opened them quickly as she hit something soft. When she looked up her heart skipped a beat, it was Soul. His arms wrapped around her waist as he steadied her and he snarled up at Draco.

"You better not have done what I think you did." he growled, Malfoy narrowed his eyes but didn't reply, "because if you did, that's not cool. You don't want to know what I do to uncool people."

Maka would have enjoyed seeing Malfoy wet his pants and run for cover, unfortunately that wasn't his style. Instead he stalked off, muttering something about' hearing' and his 'father.'

Maka planted a kiss on Soul and he grinned down at her.

"Where've you been?" she whispered, as she entertwined her fingers in his, he led her up the stairs.

"Hangin' with Shiku. Kid's not bad-just don't get his temper up. He kind of..." Soul made a hand gesture as they walked through the quiet entrance hall, Maka nodded understandingly, "what did Stein say?"

"Depending on how close he is to becoming a Kishin, we may be able to take Shiku back to Death City."

"And what are the other's doing in the common room?"

"Homework mostly. I think Harry had another detention with Dumbridge."

They made small conversation as they headed up to the tower, about what they missed about Death City mainly. Their classes, their missions, their apartment. Maka even found herself missing her dad-just a tiny bit.

As they entered the common room they discovered it to be mostly empty. It normally was, apart from the usual crowd-Harry, Ron and Hermione. They were huddled tightly around the fire, whispering, from where they were standing they could only hear-"it's okay their firend's of ours."

Maka and Soul shared a glance, before they leaned over the backs of the armchair.

"Cool." Soul breathed, for there was a human head engulfed in the flames of the fire, this was what the trio had been talking to.

"I'm Maka, and this is Soul."

"Nice to meet you, I am Sirius Black; Harry's godfather."

-Shiku's POV-

Fang snored as he layed over Shiku's lap, or considering the boy's size, his whole body. Shiku smiled as he watched Hagrid sleeping in his giant bed. He scratched Fang behind his ears as he thought. Soul had seemed nice enough, like a big brother. It would be great to have a big brother.

And yet, as he meet more and more people at Hogwarts he got more and more scared. He could barely control his powers when he was alone, but now he was terrified he was going to hurt someone he cared about.

It would be even worse than before.

A slight cliffhanger, but if you have an awesome memory, the Sirius scene is in the book, so that'll come in later (slightly edited of course). Hope you guys enjoyed it nonetheless, if so-drop a review, if not-drop a review. I like reading feedback, whether it's good or bad so don't be afraid to flame me. :) Now onto my notes:

-I will probably re-upload chapter ten, I don't know if that notifies you or not. It's just that the spaces didn't come in so it's harder to read in my view.

-FunFact: The name of the Kishin is a merge of the Japanese words Shiro and Kuro, which means white and black. I hinted at angels and devils, and that was my initial idea for it, so I thought merging those words would be good. :33 PLEASE tell me what you think of him so far, he's my first OC that I'm proud of, and I want you all to love him as much as I do!

-In Maka and Malfoy's conversation, I put two references from various things in. I don't know what I'll give you if you could pick both of them out. A hug? Virtual cupcakes? Random Homestuck gifs I have off the internet?

-Soul acted a little yandere, huh? What did you guys think?

~~Reviews~~

XxXTinamoiXxX: Fortunately your review came through as I was still writing it, so I could put it in for you. :33 Hope I did a good job; there will probably be more because I enjoy writing it.

TheAwesomePandaChan: Thank you so much~! Kid, Patty and Liz may have a couple of cameos in it, but I don't think they'll be coming to Hogwarts in this one, unfortunately.

As always guys, thank you for your support, keep being awesome, and if you have time you can stop by my tumblr (TurnUpsAndBowties) or my quotev account (TurnTups)

See ya~! \(^0^)/
