Tricks of the mind

Angela ran through the Jeffersonian as Hodgins tried his best to follow. He knew she had thought of something he just had no idea what.

"Angie." He called as she ran through the building, almost hitting her office door as she arrived. "What is it?"

"The key. Whoever did this, they had access to the Jeffersonian."

"Yeah." Hodgins stated.

"Yeah, so how would anyone get access to the forensic anthropology unit at the Jeffersonian? At that time of night?"

"Security is so much better since the shooting."

"Yeah, Brennan was shot by a security guard." Hodgins stated as Angela nodded.

"Yes, he had access to the department. He had a pass to get in and out of here unquestioned." She paused as her cell phone rang. "Bren? Hi." Angela smiled as the voice of her best friend filtered through the air. "You're on speaker, Hodgie is with me."

"Cam remembers having an office."

"That's great." Hodgins smiled.

"She also thinks Arastoo tried to kill her." Brennan continues. "Booth went to see Cam earlier."

"Not great." Angela sighed.

"No, really not great."

Arastoo stared out into the night, he felt sick. The stars seemed to be taunting him, he had no idea why Cam would think he could ever hurt her.

"You know she doesn't really think you did anything wrong." He looked up to see the older English man sit next to him.

"What are you doing here?"

"Michael was left in my care when Jack and Angela went back to work. I am staying with Sweets for the moment while my place in New York is being dealt with. I merely suggested he stay with the boy while I came to find you."

"I didn't hurt her."

"But once, you lied once. About your accent, your grasp of the English language. You led people to believe Farsi was your first language."

"It is." He sighed. "She knows why I did that."

"Yes but in her addled mind she mixed things up. Rationally she knows you didn't touch her." Arastoo frowned. "Her brain is mixing things up. Go back to the hospital. Loitering around the Diner isn't going to help."

"I."

"Do you love her?"

"Do you really have to ask?" Gordon smiled slightly.

"Go." Arastoo closed his eyes for a moment before running away from the doorstep of the closed Diner. "Still got it." Gordon mumbled to himself. "Yes, I've still got it."

Angela paced her office, her shoes long forgotten. Hodgins sat on the battered patchwork sofa in the corner.

"We have entrance passes. In order to gain entry whoever did this had a pass or another way to turn the alarm off." Angela paced some more. Her husband smiled slighty.

"Yeah."

"So? What if the police only checked the passes of people who work here? What about visitors? Like Booth."

"You aren't?"

"No! Of course not but how difficult is it to get a pass? To sneak past security? They barely looked at me when I got here."

"You are very recognisable, Angie." He smiled at her as she finally sat next to him on the battered sofa.

"Honey."

"I'm serious. They asked me for my pass when I got here. They knew where you were. That's how I knew to go straight to Cam's office."

"Arastoo did not do this."

"Someone walked in here. Half strangled her and pushed her over the balcony. Someone who walked in here unchecked. If it was someone from Cam's past." Hodgins continued.

"Who is to say it's someone related to her work as a coroner?" Angela rested her head back against the sofa. "Before you I had some pretty awful boyfriends. So did Brenn. Why do you think I wanted her and Booth to get together?"

"So your thinking an ex of Cam's?"

"Before Arastoo she barely dated." Angela sighed. "Michelle's father is dead. Booth, James from the archeology department."

"James could get here unchecked." Hodgins paused. "He didn't seem like the nicest guy. I'll talk to security."

"No." Angela got to her feet. "Booth. We talk to him first." Her husband nodded before getting to his feet and following her out into the night.
