CHAPTER 11 - A LITTLE STORY
DAVE'S POV
Wow ok, I thought Mindy remembering things was suppose to be a good thing but when I brought up seeing Night Bitch she seemed downright hostile. Did she not like Night Bitch for some reason, I don't remember Mindy ever really knowing her that well.
"What? don't you like her or something?" I asked jokingly.
"Fuck Dave I don't really know her, it's just certain things are popping in my head that's all" Mindy replied still clearly annoyed.
"Ok ok you just seemed irritated that's all" I argued.
"Well I'm not" She answered.
Mindy stormed off out of the kitchen and went and sat on the sofa. I didn't particularly want to go sit with her due to the fact Chris was still near by on his laptop but in the end I couldn't avoid him forever so I sat on the other side of the seating area on one of the chairs.
"So what's the plan for this evening?" I asked Mindy
"Shh" She simply replied.
Mindy was engrossed in the news on the TV. It seemed another family was hit last night, this time it was four brothers who originated from Hong Kong they were gunned down in the street as they left the opera. The police have apparently linked it to a spree of killings recently.
"Looks like the numbers keep rising, the Matsamuni brothers knew my dad back in the day" Chris said aloud.
"So they were a crime family?" I asked him.
"Well I don't think they hung with my dad just to socialise do you?" Chris sarcastically replied.
I didn't answer him I just continued to watch the news as Mindy spoke.
"There won't be any big players left this rate if Mastema keeps going" She claimed.
"Well that's not such a bad thing is it?" I asked a little confused.
"It's a really bad thing" Chris interrupted. "The more competition Mastema gets rid of the more power he has, fuck, don't you know anything"
I was about to jump up a give Chris a smack in the face when I caught Mindy give me a quick glance as if to say 'don't rise to it'
"Anyway" Chris continued "I take it you saw Mastema's latest post online?"
"What?" Mindy asked.
"Mastema posted another video" Chris repeated.
"Why the fuck didn't you say something earlier?" Mindy argued her voice starting to get louder.
"I didn't know I was supposed to tell you everything I thought you guy's were the professionals here" Chris replied.
"Show us" I ordered Chris.
He loaded the video and we watched Chris's laptop and waited for it to start.
The scene this time was in some sort of library or study, it was all very elegant and stylish. There was an old leather chair in the centre and an open fire glowing brightly to the side. Mastema entered the frame again wearing a suit with his face covered by a black mask which only exposed his eyes. He gently sat in the chair as if he was about to read a story or something.
"Welcome friends. In a time not so long ago and in a land not so far away there once lived two little heroes, Kick Ass and Hit Girl. Night after night they would go out and battle the monsters who caused trouble in the land and the people rejoiced and praised them as their saviours. As time went by however more monsters even worse then before came to the land in search of the two heroes and the people started to suffer because there was nothing the two heroes could do to stop these new monsters. Eventually the ungrateful people of the land turned on the two little heroes blaming them for all their troubles. In the end the two heroes were defeated by the monsters and the sad thing was that no one in the land even cared…Just something to think about as the numbers keep rising"
The video ended and there was as short moment of silence before Chris spoke.
"Tells a good story doesn't he" Chris remarked.
"Well it wont be a happy ending for that cocksucker I promise you that" Mindy stated.
"He's just trying to get to us that's all" I replied.
"Damn, do you see how many people have seen this video, I wish I had gotten that sort of attention back when….." Chris cut himself off.
I think Chris knew he was starting to annoy both me and Mindy so he excused himself and went through to his room. Mindy turned and looked at me.
"We need to start thinking about how we can use Chris to draw Mastema out somehow" she said.
"Maybe if Chris was to let everyone know somehow online where he will be at a certain time it might tempt Mastema" I suggested.
"It's worth a try" Mindy replied.
As the night drew in both Mindy and I continued to plan our next move. We agreed we needed Chris somewhere which wouldn't put civilians in too much danger and eventually decided on a location in central park. We'd keep a close eye on Chris from a distance and just hope Mastema would be foolish enough to show himself, it was a long shot to be sure but it's all we had right now. As the time passed us by I think we both needed a break from it so I suggested we put on a movie.
"Anything but a chick flick and something with a little action in it" Mindy instructed me.
"Ok, we've got 'Aliens' on blu-ray what do think?" I asked.
"Perfect" Mindy replied smiling.
As we watched the movie in the dark I sneakily gave Mindy a quick glance, I couldn't help it she just kind of pulled my attention to her like that, yet as I did I noticed she was looking at me, she quickly turned her attention back to the movie when she realised I saw her but I definitely noticed it.
The movie soon ended and it was starting to get late, we both made ourselves some hot chocolate with marsh mellows before bed as it was Mindy's favourite.
"Just so you know I told Marty not to mention anything to Miranda, he thought we should bring her in on everything as she might be up for helping us but I decided against it but in the future if things get desperate its an option, what do you think?" I asked Mindy.
"I think we need to concentrate on the job at hand and not some amateur slut who you used to bang!" Mindy replied aggressively.
She stormed out of the kitchen and went straight to her room without finishing her hot chocolate. If I didn't know any better id say she was acting a little jealous but this is Mindy we're talking about she doesn't get jealous, does she?
