Eleven

Jessie's POV

Josh didn't believe me and that hurt. We spent the rest of half term avoiding each other because we were to annoyed with the other. Everyone now knew the reason behind why mum had abused me. Some, like Josh, believed her. That was Tyler, Lily, Carmen, Johnny, Megan and Jody. The others all believed me and Charlie. That was Blake, Elektra, Tee, Harry, Holly and Floss. I felt bad about that because Holly and Lily were on opposite sides and it was causing tension between all of us.

"it just doesn't make sense," I said as I sat on the field with Blake, Elektra, Tee and Charlie in lunch at school. "he's so willing to believe her but not his sister even though we went through it together. If she was depressed she would have had mood swings. She was in a state of permanent anger." I said. Charlie looked over at Josh who was sat with Tyler, Carmen, Megan and Johnny.

"Yeah but he's always been willing to believe others. He's very forgiving," Charlie said. I hit my cousin lightly.

"I know that but still," I said my voice trailing off. It just didn't make sense to me.

"grrr," Tee growled and we all turned to look at her. "Sorry. Maths homework and I can't do it," she said exasperated. I walked over to her and looked at what it was.

"oh that's easy," I said and quickly explained it to her. She smiled at me.

"thanks," she said. She then looked over at Josh. "how do you two cope with not killing each other in all your lessons?" she asked.

I shrugged. "Physics is fine because I sit with Blake, geography is an issue as we are partners and maths is bearable as we don't ever work in pairs we just sit next to each other," I said. I shook my head. "And guess what we have last?" I said.

"geography," everyone said. I nodded and got up as the bell went.

"well best not go kill my brother," I said. "See you all at the end of school for rehearsals." I walked into the school building and to our geography class. I sat down in my seat and a few seconds later Josh sat down next to me.

"Come on Jessie, you have to talk to me at some point. We are in the same group for the trip to Snowdon at the beginning of next year. We're going to have to work together," he said. I ignored him, forming a barrier between us with my hair. He sighed. He'd been trying to persuade me to talk to him for the past two days in geography. "What if I said I'll never talk to mum again?" he said.

"it's not that. It's the fact you believe her. You have marks on your back Josh where she hurt you. I have marks all over me. Yet you are willing to believe it was because of depression," I hissed angrily. I turned my attention back to the projector screen and started copying down the work on the board. I heard Josh sigh behind me and his pen writing down the titles. I closed my eyes briefly, regretting talking to him so harshly. I looked over my shoulder at him. "Josh," I said. He raised an eyebrow but looked up at me. "Sorry." I said before turning back to my work. There was no reply but I hadn't been expecting one.

Our final lesson of the day ended and we both hurried out the classroom and towards the school rehearsal. Alex joined us on the way. I smiled at her but she just glared back. I shrugged and ran ahead to join Rick who I had just spotted. I interlocked my arm with his. He looked at me and smiled. I kissed him gently on the lip. "I love you," I whispered before walking through the drama door with him.

"I love you too," he said. We climbed onto the stage and I saw Megan watching us. Rick tensed up a bit when he saw Megan. I frowned. Something was going on. Miss Gooden came in.

"good you are all here. Now let's see. Cinderella where are you," miss Gooden said. Next to me Tee raised her hand. "oh there you are. Now we are going to do the scene with your fairy godmother and going to the ball so Jessie you're needed too." She said. We both stood up. "oh and Rick. Who is the driver," she said. I smirked at that. Rick was playing the dog who changed into her driver because of my magic. Rick pulled a face but joined us.

Tee sat down at the front of the stage and Rick and I headed offstage. She started sobbing. "it's not fair," she said. That was my cue to fly in but for rehearsal I was just walking.

"What's not fair honey?" I asked lightly. She spun round.

"who are you?" she asked.

"I'm your fairy godmother Cinderella. Now let's see if we can't put a smile on your face. What's not fair?" I asked again.

"it's my sister's they have stopped me from going to a ball. And I really wanted to go," Tee said. I smiled.

"That can easily be arranged," I sang. I hurried about on stage picking up things I needed. We were using a toy dog which I put on stage. I then began to sing and skip around stage. I heard my cousin cracking up in the audience as well as most of the remaining kids. There was going to be a burst of light and smoke and a carriage and Rick would appear from the trapdoor. I then walked over to Tee. "And this is for you. Now hurry along but be back by twelve because that's when the magic wears off. And I'll sort out the chores." I said. Tee hugged me and she and Rick ran offstage while I turned to the audience.

"So Cinderella is off to the royal ball to find a suitable person to dance with. Will she find her dream husband or will it all go to terrible ends? Well I must dash. Things to do," I said and the scene ended.

Miss Gooden cheered. "Well done you three. You've been practising." She said. I went to join Charlie in the audience as she worked through the next few scenes with the extras and Tee and Blake. Josh and Alex were a couple in the ballroom scenes. At that moment in time Rick was talking to Alex and Megan was with Josh and they were waiting to go on.

Charlie tapped me. I looked at him and he started mouthing my awful singing. I hit him lightly to get him to stop taking the mick. He froze suddenly. I frowned but turned to look at what he was seeing. In the far corner of the stage Rick was kissing Alex. My face fell. "no!" I said, a little louder than intended as everyone turned to look at me. "I mean no. They should be on the thrust so that they can be seen more," I said referring to Tee and Blake. Miss Gooden smiled at my suggestion. "Urm, I need to go outside quickly. I'll be back in a bit," I said to her before running out the theatre. Rick couldn't follow me as he was meant to be acting but Charlie ran after me. I slumped outside the wall and started crying.

Charlie placed a hand on my shoulder. "he didn't even stop it Charlie. He just let it carry on," I said through my tears. Charlie didn't answer but he squeezed my shoulder in comfort.
