A/N

Many apologies for the months long vanishing act. First, GG turned out to be horrible, then I had to go through a personal tragedy around the New Year and then life happened and my muse sort of ditched me. I have now decided to complete it because of so many private messages that I got from my lovely readers who asked me to go through with what I have started. I too am one of those people who need to tie up all the loose ends to I had to finish it breathe easy.

If anyone is still reading it, I salute you for your patience and thank you for sticking around this long.

As always, I don't own anything.

Dan wanted to tell Jay that he is his father before he left for USA in February. Blair too wanted to get it done and over with but she had no idea how to go about it. She sought Jenny's help but she too could not come up with any ideas where Jay would not ask too many questions and would accept Dan as his dad without much fuss. Blair was on her own and she did not want Dan's help on this.

In the end, it all happened in such a calm manner that Blair was left wondering why was she worried in the first place. The day of New Year's Eve was bright and shiny and when Dan arrived at their home with groceries to cook them authentic Italian meal, feeling at ease in her house and commanding Jay's attention to help him with various tasks in the kitchen, Blair decided that it will be the day she will tell Jay. She wanted him to know that not everyone is allowed in their house like this, Dan is given that courtesy because he was his father. She was quiet and jittery throughout the meal and did not add more than two sentences to the conversation. Dan noticed that but he decided not to probe.

After the lunch, she stayed seated when Jay and Dan picked up the plates and Dan started washing them. Suddenly she went after him and asked him to come to the parlour, when he said that he will follow her after he is done stacking the dishes in the dish washer, she freaked out and ordered him to be in the parlour in next thirty seconds with Jay. Dan picked up Jay and was in the parlour in less than twenty-five seconds.

Blair kept looking outside the window and only turned back when Jay asked her to come and sit with them. She saw father and son, both sporting random curls on their foreheads with almost identical quizzical expressions on their faces looking at her wanting answers why they were summoned.

Blair turned back but chose a seat opposite the sofa Dan and Jay were sitting in. She cleared her throat and fixed her gaze on Jay, "Jay darling, do you know who Dan is and why is he visiting us today?"

Dan's heart leapt in to his throat. Despite wanting Jay to know he is the father, he was not ready for this conversation. He also thought that Blair would tell their son about him in privacy, not in front of him.

"He is Jenny's brother and he is here because his father has bundled him," Jay had an easy answer.

"What," a befuddled Blair who had vowed that she would not look at Dan during conversation turned towards Dan and asked, "Rufus bundled you?"

Dan too looked a little out of depth and then all of a sudden he started laughing. It turned out that when he came in, he said that Jenny went to Ibiza with Chuck for the New Year and his father 'abandoned' him for the day that is why he decided to cook them a meal. As 'abandoned' was not word Jay was familiar with, he thought Dan was being bundled a word that in Jay's estimation is closest to abandoned. Blair too laughed and looked at her son with affection.

She told Jay that Dan was most certainly not bundled but he was there to see him and would he like to know why Dan wanted to see him. Jay nodded his head and said that he would like to know that.

Blair was quiet for a few seconds looked between Dan and Jay, "Darling, I told you that your father lives in America, well Dan is your father and he lives in America but he is visiting London so he thought he should meet you and introduce him so that you would know that he is the dad who lives in America," she rambled on.

Jay looked at her and then at Dan and then looked back at her and asked, "But my father's name is Daniel and he is Dan and he is Jenny's brother."

Dan looked at Blair and raised his brows in question and mouthed the words, 'may I?' when blair nodded, he moved on the sofa and sat sideways so he was facing Jay. "Well, my name is Daniel but when I was little boy, my mom thought Daniel is too long a name for a small baby so everyone started calling me Dan and then it stayed. And yes, I am Jenny's brother but I am also your dad. I hope you are okay with that," Dan spoke very quietly.

Jay pondered over this information for a bit and asked Blair, "Mom, does this mean I am still friends with Jenny?" and when Blair smiled and told him that yes Jenny would still want him as her friend, he seemed okay.

Dan laughed at that reaction and so did Blair. She never thought that Jenny would indirectly rescue an awkward situation in such a manner. When Dan pointed out that now he knows that Dan is his dad, he should also know that that makes Jenny his aunt. Jay seemed to like that idea. He then asked Blair if he can take Dan up to his bedroom to show him his new rail set that his grandma has gotten him. Blair assented and told them to call her if they need anything. Surprisingly, she did not hear from then for next four hours and they only came down when she called them for evening supper.

As Jay had a full day, he was tired and as soon as he was done, Blair took him upstairs and bathed him. She brought him downstairs so that he can say good night to Dan and was fast asleep as soon as his head hit the pillow.

When Blair came down, she saw Dan coming out of the kitchen with two cups of coffee in his hand. "I made coffee and I hope it is okay with you because I wanted to talk and thank you for telling him that he is my … you know, … err, that I am his father."

"He already knew that Dan, the only difference is that now he has a face to go with the name, the rest is still the same and it is not like I have done you any favors, it's just something that was always there and now he knows." Blair was not looking at him and was trying to act unaffected.

"It is not the same Blair, and you know it," he looked at her and said quietly, "Now that he knows, he is gonna look at me differently. I am scared that he may not like me or would think that he is fine without me. I am even more afraid of what I might do."

When Blair looked at him with a perplexed expression, he said. "I am afraid that I may do something stupid or cruel like I did with you when I refused to believe you. I don't want to screw it up with Jay like I did it with you." When she did not say anything he beseeched her. "Please forgive me because I just cannot live with the shame of it. I was out there writing bitter stories about beautiful women always choosing rich men and being a slut and feeling sorry for myself while you were here, being responsible, raising our child all by yourself and not saying a bad word about me. I can never repay you for your continued kindness and for still giving me a chance and introducing me him as his father."

Blair did not say anything; she was lost in her thoughts. Soon after Jay was born, she imagined this scenario many a times. That Dan would come and beg her forgiveness and profess his love for her and they would ride into the sunset together. Now that he was sitting in front of her with a mug of coffee in his hands and an earnest expression on his face, she was wondering why she wanted this to happen so badly because now that it has happened, she is not sure if she wanted his apology. She was wondering why when it dawned on her that Dan only apologized for not believing her about her pregnancy and his fatherhood. He never apologized for not believing her when she told him that she loved him.

So startled was she with this revelation that she had to move away from this conversation. She plastered the fakest of smiles on her face and asked Dan if he would like to see some of Jay's baby photos.

Dan could not understand the sudden change but he was going to go along with anything that Blair suggested so he said yes to her offer of seeing Jay's photos. While Blair was upstairs taking the albums out, Dan was sitting on the sofa in the parlour wondering why life is so full of interruptions and complications and why did he – or Blair for that matter – did not profess their love when they should have to save themselves all this heartache!
