Harvey woke up as the sun filtered through the drapes. He immediately noticed Donna was no longer next to him, and took a second to rethink about the night before. He replayed the whole night in his mind, savoring every moment again. It was perfect, and he had never felt so fulfilled after sleeping with someone. But Donna wasn't just someone. He straightened up in bed, and looked at the nightstand clock; it read 7:30 am. He listened carefully, hoping he'd find Donna still here. It worried him that she wasn't here; he thought they should talk about it before heading to work. Talk about it! he thought to himself, who am I? He got up from bed to find a mug of coffee on the desk, with a note. It read:
Headed to work. Didn't want to interrupt your beauty sleep. There's a suit in the wardrobe; shower and put it on. There's a key under the mat, just lock the door when you leave.
He smiled as he read her note. She was ever the organizer, never letting a detail slip out. The coffee was still warm; he must've just missed her. He quickly drank it and hopped in the shower, noticing that he'll be using one of her shampoo. He loved the idea of smelling her through the day, however disturbing that might be. He put on the suit she had, and called Ray to meet him at Donna's. He thought about what it must imply, but realized Ray is very loyal and knows how to mind his own business. Ten minutes later, Ray was here and Harvey got into the car. "Morning Ray" Harvey cheerfully greeted. "Good morning Mr. Specter" Ray respectfully answered. He noticed his boss was different from usually, his face more serene. Something must've finally happened between these two, Ray thought. "Beautiful day huh?" he continued. Harvey smiled and said: "Yes, great day". The rest of the ride was silent, as Harvey thought about how things were going to be now between him and Donna.
Donna walked in Pearson Specter like every morning and greeted the security man on the front desk. She saw the elevator about to close and shouted: "Hold it please!" The elevator's door opened again and Donna entered it to find Louis. "Good morning Donna" Louis greeted "Tough day yeah?" he continued, trying to hide his sadness. It took her a second to remember: Shit! Rachel's leaving today! She answered: "Yes tough day. But can be good too". Louis gave her a confusing look, waiting for an explanation. Donna noticed she had to justify her sentence: "I mean you can look at it like a day for new opportunities, new horizons…for Rachel I mean" she said, blushing a bit as Harvey popped in her head. Louis took a second before saying: "Hmm...positive attitude. I love it!" He then looked at Donna meticulously before asking her: "Donna…did you Yoga? You look stunning!" Donna smiled and said: "Yes, squeezed in a session early this morning" She walked to her cubicle and sat, reflecting on the situation between her and Harvey. She was worried; she wanted to maintain a professional relationship, but also needed to see a bit more, something that proved to her their night was about more than lust. She looked at the schedule lying before her eyes, and was a bit relieved to see he had a full day. She was having lunch with Rachel then dropping her off to the airport, so they would talk about it tonight, she thought. She texted Rachel: "Lunch today?" Rachel quickly replied: "Of course. Usual place"
As she put down her phone and started focusing on the stack of papers she had to go through, she heard the elevator sound announcing someone's arrival. She quickly glanced at the clock. 8:05, must be Harvey. She saw him walking alongside Mike towards her cubicle. She looked up and their eyes locked, conveying complicity and understanding. "Morning Donna" Harvey greeted her with a wide smile. "Morning Harvey, Mike" she returned the smile, praying the hotness she was feeling wasn't showing on her face. "Sleep well?" he asked, his signature smirk on his face. Donna played it cool and gave him the same answer she always uses: "How I sleep is none of your concern", as her lips curled up in a smile. Instead of replying by the usual: "Doesn't stop me from thinking about it", Harvey said: "Oh it is", leaving Donna blushing, her stomach suddenly attacked by butterflies. Mike noticed something was different, like a new level of flirting. They didn't avoid too much eye contact like they usually do; they were actually looking for each other's eyes. As they walked inside his office, Mike asked Harvey: "Am I hallucinating or do you smell like lavender?" Harvey shrugged: "What..it smells good" Harvey answered "How you holding up champ?" he continued, referring to Rachel's departure to law school. Mike was surprised and then sadly said: "Don't really wanna talk about it" Harvey nodded in understanding and continued: "I tell you what. Just finish the papers on this GM lawsuit and leave" Mike's eyes widened in disbelief before saying: "But you know I can finish these in half an hour". Harvey answered: "Exactly the point. I can manage the meetings alone" Mike couldn't believe Harvey was releasing him early and decided to comment: "Wow Harvey, you've gone so soft. What happened this weekend?" he asked suggestively. Harvey's thoughts went back to his night at Donna's as he looked at her through the glass. "I don't know… Must be those goddamn magic leafs Louis picked!" he answered. Mike laughed and thanked Harvey, leaving him to finish his work. As he walked by Donna's cubicle, he stopped and stared at her, before asking: "What did you do to him?" He left without waiting for the answer. Donna smiled knowingly, happy to see her effect on him. The next couple of hours passed very quickly, as they both had a lot of work to do. A bit before lunch break, Harvey called Donna through the intercom. She walked in his office, feeling his eyes checking her out. "Stop undressing me in your mind" she teased. He smiled and replied: "Can't. Unless you let me undress you now…" She giggled and said: "Oh no" He put his hand in his pocket and took her apartment key out, handing it to her. She took it and looked around, checking to see if someone was looking, before hiding it in her bra. Harvey's heart stopped a little as she mischievously smiled at him. "You're going to kill me, aren't you?" She nodded in agreement, as he let out a laugh. "Listen, what time is my meeting with Edward Gate? And is he still married? Have to know if I should ask about the wife" he continued. Donna answered him before heading back to her desk, a bit disappointed. She expected something more, like suggesting plans for later.
Donna joined Rachel at their usual spot near the firm. She hugged her friend and they sat, as Donna asked if Mike was going to join them. Rachel said he might be running late. After Donna asked Rachel about how she was feeling, Rachel noticed Donna was hiding something. She was anxious, constantly playing with the napkin and moving her finger. "Donn, do you have something to tell me?" Rachel asked, worried. Donna's gaze met with hers, and Rachel understood directly something had happened: "Oh my god yes! What is it?" she asked excited. Donna told her everything that happened that night. Rachel couldn't believe what she was hearing. It finally happened. "Donnaaa! this is amazing!" she said, tearing up. Donna choked as she saw her friend's eyes filled with tears: "Raach! don't cry please" . "I'm just so happy for you" she said, wiping a tear that got away. "Don't be" Donna said. "I mean we don't really know yet what this…is. Except for the dirtier flirting, I haven't seen changes yet". Rachel nodded and said: "But it's what you want, no? Maintaining a professional relationship?". Donna thought about her friend's words and shrugged: "Yeah I guess. Hey don't tell Mike yet ok? Just so we know what this is" Rachel smiled and said: "Sure"
When Donna came back to the office, she saw Harvey wasn't there yet. The lunch meeting must be running late she thought. She continued working and decided to leave him a note on his desk, notifying him of her going to the airport. As she was leaving his office, she bumped into him, as he grabbed her by the waist to prevent her from falling. Her hands rested on his arms "Going somewhere?" he asked with a grin. He was still holding her by the waist, and she knew she had to stop him, but she liked it, felt safe. She looked him in the eyes and said: "Airport, Rachel leaving". "Oh, right" he answered. "Will you come back after that?" he asked. Donna was confused by the way he asked that question. "Euhm, yeah. I mean there's still work, so yeah" she answered hesitantly. "Okay" he replied. "Okay" she mirrored. They stood in silence, still holding each other like the moment they hit one another was frozen in time. She noticed his eyes trailing to her lips, and suddenly started feeling hotter. "No Harvey" she whispered. At that moment Jessica walked in and eyed them suspiciously "Everything okay here?" she asked, making Donna jump. "Yes, I just bumped into him and was about to fall so this happened" she explained, faking an annoyed tone. "Really? Seems to be you've been standing like this for minutes" Jessica insisted with a devilish grin. Donna saw a bit of panic in Harvey's eyes. She quickly recovered: "You see? He just can't seem to let me go" she joked. "Who could?" he asked half jokingly half serious. Donna decided to leave and excused herself "I'll be back from the airport soon", leaving Jessica and Harvey.
At the airport, Rachel stood between Donna Mike and Louis, trying to delay the goodbyes. A sad silence was filling the air, and Rachel broke it by saying: "Harvey texted me by the way". Everyone looked at her with disbelief, and Donna asked surprised: "He did?" Rachel nodded and showed Donna Harvey's text. It read:
Good luck Rachel. You're an outstanding paralegal and will soon be an excellent lawyer. Take care. –Harvey
Rachel then scrolled down, showing her the rest of the conversation:
Thank you very much Harvey. Take care of Donna and Mike – Rachel
Don't worry about Mike, he's a tough guy. As for Donna, always – Harvey
Donna couldn't believe what she was reading, this was indeed very sweet. "You're bonding behind my back!" she joked. Rachel laughed as she put her cell phone back in her purse. Goodbyes were now in order. Louis hugged Rachel, fighting tears in his eyes: "This is the only time I'm ever using my verb on someone else. Let them get Litt up by you Rachel Zane" . Rachel squeezed him and thanked him. Donna was next. She hugged her friend and said: "I'm gonna miss you so much Rach! Kick their asses alright? We can still have our girl nights on Skype, I'm not getting wasted alone" Rachel laughed as tears streamed down her face "Of course, what kind of girlfriend will let her girlfriend get drunk alone!?" she sniffed. "Love you Don" she said. "Love you too Rach" Louis and Donna looked at each other and decided to leave Mike and Rachel alone. "Mike, do you want us to wait for you outside?" Donna asked tenderly. "No it's okay. I'll leave on my own, thanks" Donna patted his shoulder and left with Louis back to Pearson Specter.
Donna didn't think she would be that emotional after her friend left. She sat at her desk, her emotions taking over. Tears were starting to form in her eyes. Harvey saw her through the glass and quickly walked up to her desk without thinking twice. He entered her cubicle and sat on the desk. "Are you okay? he asked worried. Donna kept shuffling through the papers on her desk: "Yeah I'm fine". He put his hand on hers, stopping them from moving and lifted her chin with his other hand "Hey Donna, look at me" he whispered tenderly. As soon as their eyes locked, tears started streaming down her face. He wanted to hug her, console her and tell her he's here. He couldn't at work, she wouldn't want it. He wiped a tear off her face and said: "It's okay Donna, you'll see her soon" he reassured her. "I know I know, I don't why I'm being that sentimental. It's stupid" "No it's not. She's your friend, it is understandable" Harvey replied. "Now stop crying or it'll be harder for you not to hold you in my arms" he confessed. She smiled at him and thanked him. He put a lock of hair behind her ear and said: "Listen, why don't we go out tonight. Have dinner somewhere nice". Donna was surprised by his suggestion and said: "Euhm okay" She had a million questions and he could see that on her face. "Be ready at 8, I'll pick you up. Wear something nice, I got us a reservation at a nice place" he said, walking back to his office. He stopped and turned saying: "Oh and Donna. It's a date". He winked at her his signature wink, making her grin widely.
When she walked out of her building, Harvey wasn't sure he was still breathing. She looked absolutely stunning, wearing a strapless black dress. "You look…breathtaking" he managed to say. She smiled and said: "You look great yourself. Lamborghini I see, are you trying to win me over?" she teased, referring to the car "Is it working?" he flirted back. "Oh you're going to have to do much better than that" she answered. He opened the door for her and the whole ride was a guess game for Donna to find the restaurant they were going to. When they arrived at the doors of le Bernadin, Donna couldn't believe her eyes. "What?! How did you manage to get a reservation here?" she asked. "I pulled some strings" he answered proudly. Le Bernadin is one of the most renowned seafood restaurants in the world. "You like seafood right?" he asked. "No" she answered, making his jaw drop. "I love it" she shot back, sending a wave of relief down his body. He walked in with her on her arm, and they were directed to a very cozy section of the dining room.
The dinner went on very smoothly, the usual intimacy between them showing. The food and the wine were excellent, and the topics varied between memories from their past at the DA office, family stories and Donna's funny love conquests that usually ended in a guy stalking her. Work wasn't mentioned at all, as if they didn't even work together. He couldn't not look at her, her lips on the wine glass perfectly sipping it, her tongue as it swipe some of the dressing left on her lip. Halfway through the dinner, she put her hand on his, sending shivers down his spine. She looked at him in the eyes, their body now leaning towards each other. "Thank you Harvey" she whispered. He smiled and said: "It's the least I can do. And listen Donna, I know we didn't talk about it this morning, but I want you to know that I'm in this. I want this, I'm not fooling around" When she didn't reply he continued, now squeezing her hand. "I'm committed to this and I believe we can make it work. Things can stay professionally flirty at the office, and if you wanna tell people we can tell people and if you don't then we won't. I'm not sure how this goes, but we'll figure it out okay?" She didn't say anything but leaned in, kissing him softly. The kiss took him by surprise, and it was soft, tender. "I'll take that as a yes" he said grinning, and kissed her again. "You taste like cherry" he noted. Donna couldn't believe she was actually on a date with Harvey, that she just kissed him in public, that all of this is real. By the time they finished dinner, they were both very tired; they hadn't got much sleep the night before. In the car, Harvey suggested: "Will you stay over tonight?" "Do you think I'm that easy Harvey?!" she asked, scaring him with her reaction. "Euhm no sorry I…"he mumbled. "I'm kidding Harv, of course I'll stay over. Let me just get things from home". Harvey grinned and said: "You love to torture me don't you?". When they got to his apartment, they both changed into comfortable clothes. Harvey wore sweatpants, keeping his upper body bare. Donna was in a t-shirt only, his. He stared at her said: "You know, you have got to stop stealing my t-shirts" as he walked towards her. "Yeah? Why don't you come and take what's yours?"she teased inviting his mouth on hers. They kissed deeply, and she sat on the bed, and he followed her, lying on top of her. He kissed her mouth and neck, his hands sliding up and down her legs. Her hands caressed his torso and went up to shuffle tenderly in his hair. That movement seemed to relax Harvey, and his hands started settling on her waist. He fell asleep at once, holding her by the waist, his face buried in her neck. She smiled and kept caressing his hair, before she soon followed him in deep sleep.
Ok so this was about the day after and their first date. Let me know what you think. If the reviews are positive, I might add chapters of particular events. Their first fight, when people at work find out about them, the first time they exchange I love yous and things like that. I would love some suggestions if you have any. Thanks for reading!
