Authors note: Usually it takes a while for me to get in a groove of writing but I decided to start doing certain things I love a little every day, Writing, reading, and directing. I'm making more time for these things because the school year is dragging on and I feel like doing the things I love will make it go faster…I guess. Well onto the story then!
Kevin's eyes fluttered open after a short nap. He still wasn't allowed to visit Edd even though it had been two days. This aggravated him to no end. "Stupid Doctor with your stupid rules. I should be able to see Edd. It's my constitutional right! Right?" He muttered to himself under his breath flipping through channels on the hospital TV.
Finding nothing in particular he wanted to watch he just switched to a random channel for background noise. He had already tried to sneak out and find Double D two times and was caught in the act during both.
The jock sighed heavily and rubbed his eyes. It had been a big crash apparently. The man in the truck turned out fine which made Kevin relieved. There weren't very many injuries on him besides a few cracked ribs and a sprained ankle. Despite the sprain in his ankle he still tried to make it to Edd.
The doctor wouldn't tell him much about Edd's injuries. Every time Kevin brought it up He just shrugged him off saying "He's fine Kevin." The red head had started to believe it was a lie. Edd didn't have a helmet. Kevin knew he had to be something completely different than fine.
"Ugh!" His frustration got the better of him as e chucked the remote across the room hitting the wall. "Dammit, why won't they let me see him?"
3 hours later
Kevin was going to go insane.
'How much longer do they expect me to wait?' The nurse had given him a rubber ball to keep him busy. He threw it in the air and caught it midway. His parents had visited to see him, they didn't scold him, they were just glad he was alive. Nat, Nazz, and some football players also came by to see him. It made him wonder just how many people came for Edd.
It made Kevin think of Edd's parents. Did they visit him? Where were they when this was all happening?
He threw it one more time before the door creaked open and in walked the Doctor. Kevin read his name tag for the first time, not realizing it was there before. 'Doctor Robert Pence'
"Sooo, Doc. You've kept me here long enough." Kevin glared at Doctor Pence hoping to emphasize his annoyance.
"Yes, come on then. I must warn you he's a little… well, out of sorts. He doesn't seem to recognize a lot of things or people for that matter. Some friend came by earlier and he…"
"Yeah, yeah just let me see him!" Kevin kicked his legs over the bed ignoring the pain shoot through his left heel. The doctor rolled his eyes and helped him up so he didn't fall. Pence supported him while they walked out of the room and towards Edd's.
"Kevin. Like I said, he's a little out of sorts so try not to startle him." Kevin nodded solemnly and turned the knob slowly preparing himself for what he was going to see.
"Edd…?" Kevin stood in the door way in his pajamas that he had been wearing for the past two days. He found Edd at the window staring out into the parking lot and smiled. He looked so peaceful and happy. His hat was a bit off center but he didn't seem to mind, the bandage prevented it to be straight anyway.
Kevin looked at him longingly; he wished that he could scoop him up into his arms and just get out of this hospital.
"Hey… Edd?"
The boy turned around and instantly grew confused. "How do you know my name? Did the doctor tell you?" He made his way towards the jock, his bare feet thudding against the floor. He sat on the bad facing in Kevin's direction. His p.j's were freshly clean and Kevin glanced at the bracelet on his wrist that identified him as a patient.
Kevin's breath hitched in his throat. He was warned that Edd was a bit out of sorts but he didn't believe he would forget him. "Uhh… yeah, he sent me to come say hi… to be your friend." The jock decided to keep his true status to himself until Edd could remember.
A thought entered Kevin's mind as he sat down in one of the chairs beside Edd's bed, 'What if he never remembers?'
He shook it out of his mind as soon as it entered. "Really? He's been bringing a lot of people in today."
Kevin remembered Doctor Pence telling him some friends came by earlier, no doubt it was Ed and Eddy. "So what's your name?" Edd's voice sounded soft and curious. The red head smiled and looked at him thoughtfully.
"Kevin."
"Well what're you in for Kev…" He looked down at the wrap around Kevin's bare foot, "oh… I see."
"Car wreck... I'm lucky to still be here." 'And so are you.' Kevin thought the last bit in is head as he let out a small laugh at the way Edd blew a small strand of hair, that had escaped his hat, out of his face. "That's funny; doc said I was in here for the same thing. I don't even know what really happened."
'You don't remember a lot of things…' He didn't say this aloud but his heart grew heavy with wanting to share every detail with Edd. He knew it would take time for him to regain his memory. He just wasn't a patient person.
"Well it'll take some time I guess."
"But I have this feeling… Like we've met before…Like you're really important for some reason." A spark of hope hit Kevin as Edd knitted his eyebrows, thinking. Then the boy sighed, "Nope, nothin."
"We have."
Edd gave him a look of surprise, "Really? But you just said that Doctor Pe…"
"I know, but before… Before all this. We we're friends. Really good friends to be honest."
"It's funny. That's what the first two said."
An awkward silence followed. Kevin didn't know what he was going to do or how he was going to get his memory back but he made a silent pledge that he would find a cure for his amnesia.
"Kevin?"
"Yeah?"
"Am I losing my mind?"
The hatted boy looked away and back at the window. He nervously rubbed his hands together trying to avoid Kevin's green eyes that seemed to stare into him.
"No. Well not all of it. We'll get it back."
"But…"
Suddenly Kevin reached for Edd's wrist. His eyes were teary as he held onto Edd's confused gaze.
"I promise. Edd, we will get it back."
When Kevin finally left the small hospital room he found Doctor Pence waiting by the door to escort him back. "You're a bastard."
"It was for your own safety."
"You lied to me."
"If I had told you anything other than 'he's safe.' You would have gone into shock. You would guilt yourself and feel depressed. Don't forget you were in that accident too. I was keeping you safe by telling you he was fine."
"Fuck you."
The doctor just rolled his eyes and settled him into the hospital bed. "Wait… He will remember someday right?"
He stopped at the door. "I don't know Kevin. I guess we just have to hope for the best."
After chapter authors note: Well most of you had already guessed it :/ oh well! I was originally planning on putting Edd in a coma… that would've been sad though! I hope it's not too cliché though…
