Chapter Eleven- The Fourth Champion
When Alice heard her name she froze. Her vision had indeed come true. Through out the hall there were mutters coming from each table. Jasper caught the fear in her eyes. He knew that she was scared. "Alice Potter," Professor Dumbledore called again.
"Go Ali, I'll see you after," Jasper told her.
She got up from the table and headed to the head table. She passed Remus who was staring at her with fear. Professor McGonagall gently patted Alice's shoulder. Alice went through the door where all of the other champions went through. Cedric looked up when he heard the door closed, as did Fleur and Victor. They thought that Alice was just the messenger. Behind them the door opened again. Several people ran in and down the stairs.
Remus and Professor McGonagall were among them. A shouting match began between the adults. "Did you put your name in the goblet of fire, Alice!"
"No, and before you ask, I didn't ask an older student to do it either."
"Well, of course, she is lying," Madam Maxine interjected.
"Ms. Potter must compete. That's the rule," Barty Crouch said.
"It takes a very powerful confundous to charm in order to confuse it. Too powerful for a fourteen year old to perform."
Igor Karkoroff turned towards Remus. "You seemed to have given this a bit a thought Lupin."
"It is my job as Defense teacher."
Professor McGonagall took that moment to interject. "There must be a way out of this, Albus."
"I'm afraid not, Minerva. The goblet of fire is a binding magical object," Professor Dumbledore replied.
Cedric and Alice walked back to their common rooms. Cedric turned off towards the kitchens as he we to his house common room. Alice headed to Gryffindor tower. Ten minutes later she finally reached the portrait of the fat lady. "Eclipse," she said to the fat lady.
The portrait swung open and she walked into the common room. The common room was filled with people. Jasper was the first to come up to her followed by Hermione and Harry. Ron was sulking in the far corner of the room. He was also enraged that Alice got picked. Hermione, Jasper, and Harry had worried looks on their faces. Alice knew that Jasper could feel her emotions. He knew that she was scared out of her mind.
At the bottom of the staircase they said goodnight to each other. The others remained in the common room. Eventually the common room began to empty. Hermione joined Alice in the dormitory before everyone else. After a few minutes the rest of the fourth year girls arrived. Alice sat on her bed with the red curtains closed.
Jasper could feel her terror even if he wasn't in the same room as her. He knew that he couldn't help her since they weren't close by. He was sitting on his own bed thinking only of her. Finally he fell asleep. His dreams were solely focused on her. The boys' dormitory was silent with the only sounds were the sounds of Ron snoring. They other boys were breathing silently.
Jasper met Alice in the common room the next morning. Together they went down to the Great hall for breakfast. "How are you feeling, Ali?"
"Still terrified. Don't you know?"
"Yes, I do. I felt your terror last night and I couldn't do anything about it then." Silently he sent her a wave of calm in hopes that it would help her terror.
"Thanks Jazz."
Together they walked the rest of the way to the Great Hall. A few minutes later they reached the hall. Very little amount of people was already in the Great Hall. Edward and Bella were sitting at the Hufflepuff table, while Emmett was sitting at the Gryffindor table. Even Rosalie was sitting at her house table. The other three champions haven't arrived yet. Jasper and Alice sat down next to Emmett. The look on his face was a sign a worry. The Great Hall doors opened again and in came Seth Clearwater. He had a completely different look than Emmett.
Jasper kept sending Alice a wave of calm in an attempt to ease her fears. He was careful as to not project any further than her. Their hands clasped together under the table. After a while he Great Hall's doors opened and the rest of the students arrived. Hermione, Ron, and Harry were among them. Jasper and Alice quickly let go of each other's hands. Their relationship was still a complete secret to the rest of the their group. How long would they be able to keep it a secret from their friends? Hermione, Ron, nor Harry could see how close Jasper and Alice were to each other.
The only people who could see it were Emmett Cullen and Fred. At the Ravenclaw table Rosalie, Jasper's sister was looking at Emmett. Fred on the other hand was looking for Angelina. She hasn't arrived in the Great Hall. It was clear that Fred liked Angelina and Emmett had a crush on Rosalie. Finally, the Gryffindor table filled up with the rest of the house. Seth clearly had excitement painted on his face. He couldn't wait for the first task to start.
Jasper and Alice got up from the table and left the hall. As soon as the doors closed they took hands again. They headed back up to the tower. He could feel how scared and nervous Alice was. He silently and quickly sent a wave a calm towards her. "Ali, you will be fine because you are a powerful witch."
"I know, but that doesn't mean I am still scared," she replied as they entered through the portrait hole.
They sat down on the red sofa in front of the fire. "Let's finish our homework to get your mind off of this tournament." Jasper's suggestion was interrupted by Harry and Hermione coming from the dorms up in the tower. Alice and Jasper both wandered why Ron wasn't with them.
Please Review. I had severe writer's block, but I finally was able to finish this chapter. The question still stands, whom do you want to be impersonated by Barty Crouch Jr.
