Awkward Moment 11

We all sat in the living room, not a word coming out of our mouths. I glanced up from my book to look at all the others who were fiddling with any. They were obviously bored, and out of ideas. So I spoke up.

"Um, do you guys want to go to diagon alley?"

Lily's head turned to look at me, "Why?"

"It could be fun, we could run into some friends there." Al stated before I could open my mouth.

"Yeah, I wouldn't mind." Scorpius said, his gaze lingering on mine before looking over at Al and Lily.

Lily shrugged, "I don't know…"

I reached and put a hand on her shoulders, "He probably won't be there." I whispered as quietly as I could

Al managed to hear and his head shot up, "Who won't be there?"

Lily rolled her eyes, "No one you should be interested in."

Al scrunched his eyebrows suspiciously but dropped the subject in fear of Lily's wrath. He turned to look at me.

"Well then, what are we waiting for?"

I stood frozen by the fireplace as the boys returned from talking to the parents.

Scorpius smiled at us, "We can go."

Lily was the first one to grab a handful of floo powder, calling out, "Diagon Alley."

Al hurried after and took a handful, excited to finally leave the house.

After he disappeared into the flames, Scorpius gestured for me to go ahead. I smiled and reached out for the powder. I barely heard the words that left my mouth as I stepped into the fire which whisked me over to the alleyway.

I stumbled out of the fire, already on the lookout for Lily and Al. I spotted them talking to someone over to my right, but I stepped out of the way and waited for Scorpius to come out of the fire.

The moment his bright blond hair flashed into my view and his smiling face looked at me, I blushed and turned to go walk towards Al and Lily. I took a few steps and turned my head to see if he was following me, and he raised an eyebrow and instinctively reached out to push his glasses up his nose but instead hit his head. It felt weird to see him wearing contact lenses. I turned back around and hurried to join my dear cousins. Al was talking in an animated way, as Lily stood to the side looking to the ground, obviously uncomfortable. I knew immediately who they were.

As I approached them, I saw the twins standing side by side, their similarities striking me again. Both had baggy blond hair, grey eyes piercing at everyone. Both had grins plastered on their faces and even laughed in sync. If you didn't know them, you would never be able to tell which one was which. But not us. Ly was the Gryffindor, the casual talker, the social one, and he always had a gleam in his eye that always made me take one step back. Lorcan is the Ravenclaw. He is quite smart (not that Ly isn't) but he is social too, the difference being he's much more like his mother. He may be social and handsome, but his aloof aura made him almost seem unreachable to others. Also the fact that Ly has a charming beauty mark right under his eye, but you hardly notice it. Unless you're Lily.

We exchanged greetings and Scorpius shook hands with the two to-be-sixth years and they both flew back into their conversation with Al. I nudged Lily, sending her a questioning look, but she only shrugged and went back to examining her shoes. I turned back to pay attention to the conversation about some random creature the twins were going to see on their next escapade with their family, but every few seconds, Ly would shoot a glance at Lily. He tried to ask her a few questions, but she answered them in as few words as possible and turned away. I saw his face grow from a small concern to extreme worry within a few minutes. This is why I thought they had a thing for each other.

For at least ten minutes, I stood there awkwardly with Lily, not knowing what to say or do. I felt a tug at my sleeve and Lily's whisper in my ear,

"Can we go?"

I sighed and turned to the twins, "We're going to go ahead, alright? We want to go get some stuff."

Lily grabbed my hand, nodded politely, and practically dragged me away from them.

"Bye Lily!" I heard Ly's voice call out. Lily's hand squeezed mine even more, I could feel my bones crunching against her grip.

"Lily." She didn't turn, "Lily, please." Her shoulders shook ever so slightly, "Come on Lily, please just listen to me!"

Lily whipped around, her auburn curls bouncing around her face. Her brown eyes were shining and I could tell her jaw was clenched as hard as possible.

"What?" The way she said it seemed so much more like a statement then a question, but I couldn't help but feel my heart squeeze at the two oblivious people I knew. Between Lily's sobs that echoed through my mind and Ly's worried glances, I felt the urge to do something about it.

I smiled as an idea popped in mind, "Go to Flourish and Blotts, I forgot to say something to the boys."

Lily smirked for the first time, "Uh huh. See you, and don't have too much fun!" She turned around and flounced towards the book shop. I felt my cheeks flush ever so slightly at her comment, but I quickly hurried over to the boys. This better not fail.

As I approached them, Scorpius turned to look at me with a questioning gaze. I smiled and stopped to talk to the twins.

"Hey Ly, can you help me?" I said naturally (I hope).

Ly scrunched his eyebrows, "Huh? Why?" He looked behind me, "Where's Lily?"

I crossed my fingers behind my back, "I was thinking of buying your parents new book, but I don't remember what it was called."

"Oh, um it's called-" He started, a confused look on his face,

"Oh! Why don't you come and show me?" I exclaimed loudly. I winced inwardly at all their perplexed faces. I grabbed Ly's wrist and dragged him towards the shop. The three other boys stood frozen to the ground, but none of them followed us. A twinge of disappointment plucked at my heart, but I decided to ignore it. Lily was more important at the moment.

"Rose? You can let go of me, I'm not going to run away." Ly said from behind me. I turned to look at his face, an eyebrow arched in smug confusion.

I let go of his wrist, my arm falling back to my side, "Sorry."

"S'alright." A silence echoed between us, but I ignored it. I had to get around this crowd and to Lily before anything else.

"Uh, Rose?"

"Hmmm?"

"What's wrong with Lily?"

I turned my head slightly so his face could come into my view, "Uh, just some issues with someone."

Ly's eyes narrowed, "Who? A guy? Did something happen?"

I raised an eyebrow, my lips stretching into a smirk, "Hmm… Why are you so interested?"

Ly looked at me, "Um, because she's my best mate?"

I closed my eyes and turned back to look for the shop. I really hoped it wasn't just my brain misunderstanding platonic worrying.

"No, but really, is it a guy?" Ly asked once more as we reached the entrance of Flourish and Blotts.

I rotated my head to look at him in the eyes, "Yes. It's a guy."

He froze, his eyes widening. The blue that was once worried became cold, jealous I may even say. I turned back around and stepped into the shop.

The smell of books overwhelmed me and I slowly walked towards Lily, who was scanning the shelves with no particular interest. I heard the door creak open once again, knowing it was Ly without having to look behind me. I stopped by Lily and tapped her on the shoulder.

"Talk to him, alright?" I smiled and trotted over to a shelf a few meters away. Lily looked over at me, eyes wide open. When Ly shuffled to stand by her, she froze and turned to look at the books who were all of a sudden very interesting.

Ly talked for a moment, and Lily's head shot up to glare at me. 'You told him?' she mouthed at me. I shrugged, suppressing a smug smile that wanted to creep up my cheeks. I felt Lily's glare slowly fade, as I could distinctly hear her answering Ly.

For a few minutes, the two of them talked. Nothing else happened. When Ly smiled and laughed and Lily blushed, I felt myself smile.

"Being a matchmaker, huh?" Scorpius whispered, breath hitting my cheek.

My head whipped to the side to see Scorpius looking over my shoulder at the two 16 year olds who were talking. But my brain didn't care about them right now, all it was processing was the fact that Scorpius's face was barely a few centimeters away from mine. If I moved a little forward, my nose would be in his cheek.

When I didn't respond to his comment (too busy admiring his long eyelashes) he turned his head to face me. The space between us had been reduced even more. I felt my heart thump harder and faster as his eyes met mine.

Neither of us said anything, neither of us did anything. I simply stood there, admiring his face. I took in all his features, his almond eyes to his pale skin. You could almost say he was a vampire, but the rosy tint on his cheeks crossed that out.

After what felt like eternities, I decided to do something. I leaned it, my eyes fluttering shut. When our lips brushed, I paused, unsure if he was responding at all. I got my answer as he closed the tiny distance between us and our lips locked properly. I turned my body to face his and his hands fell on my waist. As I tilted my head to get more access, I raised both my hands so they could hold on to his shoulders. And at that moment, in that shop, it felt right. No matter who was looking or who was laughing, I was kissing Scorpius, and that was all that mattered.
