"One, two, three, four, I declare a thumb war!" I frantically pressed both of my thumbs together wiggling them and slamming them against each other. "Come on, lefty!" I cheered on my left thumb as it was taking the lead. "DAMN IT!" I glared at my right thumb. "You cheated."

"Miss Greengrass?" I heard a smooth voice pierce the air, leaving me frozen in place.

"Uhm…I was just, uh…" I swung my legs off from the top of the couch and turned my body right-side up. I was currently bored out of my mind in one of the side rooms, waiting for the rest of the Task Force to leave, so that L and I could "communicate with no interruptions" as the raven haired genius put it himself. Now, how else would one entertain themselves while being locked in a completely bland and boring room like this with nothing to do? Thumb wrestle with themselves, obviously…It's not weird.

"What you do in your personal time is none of my concern." He quickly changed the subject. "Ella Greengrass. That is your full name?"

"Yes." I smoothed my hair down and tried to control my two rosebushes of embarrassment on my cheeks as he took a seat on one of the loveseats across from me, bringing his knees up, as I expected him to.

"How old are you?"

"Almost 19."

After several questions he just stopped talking, leaving the conversation at an awkward silence. After about 30 seconds of silence I cut in.

"…So, can I join the Task Force?" I asked him, hopeful. I would finally get to spend time in L! All of the fanfictions that I wrote on my computer would come true! Just as long as he says…

"Yes, I thought we already established that when you walked in." He said as he grabbed a macaroon from the tray full of sweets.

"Then, what were all of those questions for?" I asked him, baffled.

"Does one truly need an alternative motive to get to know another?" He asked me. Oh, I get it. There was an alternative motive behind his "interview". He was probably testing to see if I was Kira.

"So, now that you got your little interview, do you trust me?" I asked smugly. What could I have said to make him think I'm Kira? Most of the questions he asked weren't even related to the case.

"No. I do not trust you." I almost choked on my own spit. "Which is why you'll be living here under my supervision."

On the outside I kept a poker face, simply nodding, but on the inside I was dancing on the back of a unicorn in a field of flowers and rainbow flavored candy. Of course I was a bit discouraged at the fact that L didn't trust me, but we could fix that with time.

I leaned forward and grabbed a chocolate covered strawberry off of the table, earning a blank expression from L.

"That was mine." He mumbled.

"Well, now it's mine." I sent a small smile toward him as I popped the strawberry into my mouth and chewed. If he expected me to live here, in Sugar Wonderland, then he should have expected me eat some of the sugary goodness.

"Ella, do you have any family?" L randomly asked as he stared me down. What? Why would he want to know about my family? A small pang of sadness filled my heart as I remembered the faces of my parents and my nine year old brother. I remembered when he said something vulgar to his friends, which caused my parents to scold him and ask where he got that from. He looked at me and smiled, resulting in my being grounded for two weeks.

"Not anymore." I mumbled staring down at the floor. It was true. My parents had disowned me right after I turned 18, because I had a bad streak. Of course, now, they talked to me as if nothing ever happened, but it still hurt inside because they wouldn't take me back.

I briefly wondered if I would ever see them again. If this Death Note world that I'm in is in fact a dream, I hoped I would wake up eventually. I saw L give a small nod on his head, staring the bowl of strawberries down.

I took this time to actually study L. He looked a bit different in person rather than in the pages of a manga or on my computer screen. His hair looked less dragon ball-z like and more, realistic. I could actually see each strand as it stuck up in random places. The bags under his eyes looked more like…bags, instead of like eyeliner. That was when I decided to ask the most asked question by any Death Note fan out there.

"Ryuzaki, do you ever sleep?" I stared at his blueish bags.

"Occasionally. "

"That's not healthy." I said to him.

"I'm aware. But, if I'm to go further in any investigation I must work as much as possible."

"But, you're not working now." I raised my eyebrow. I wanted to know if he was talking to me only to get farther into the investigation, or if he was just talking to me.

"Actually, I am." I said, staring right at me. Yup, just as I thought.

"Okay." I reached for the remote and turned on the TV, flipping through the channels until I saw Pokemon. L seemed to study me for a few more moments before turning to his laptop and endlessly typing away. After what seemed like hours of ash yelling "PIKACHU, I CHOOSE YOU!" I started to get tired. I led my heavy lids take over and curled into myself on the couch, the last sounds I heard were 'Pika…Pika…CHUUUUUU'
