Epilogue
Knocking occurred on the other side of a door.
A sixteen-year-old boy with short, black hair, brown eyes, and beefy arms walked toward the door, pulling his earbuds out. He wore a black shirt with an image of red fire on it, wore light brown cargo shorts, stocky black shoes. Twisting the knob, he opened the door, and was surprised to see who was knocking at his door.
"Sky?" He asked confusedly.
Sky waved awkwardly to him. "Hey, Keith, listen… can we talk?"
"Oh, sure…" He stepped outside of his house, and they both took a seat on his doorstep. "So, what do you want to talk about?"
"Keith," Sky sighed, "Our relationship has been great and everything, but I think it's just not working out."
"Not working out? What do you mean?"
"What I mean is, it started out great, wonderful even. It had this sort of spark to it, and it made everything about our relationship seem amazing."
"Okay, so what does that have to do with it not working out?"
"If a relationship is meant to work out, then the spark should never go out, it should always be there. Except, in recent months, I feel like the spark just went out. We went on all those dates the past few months, and every single one just didn't keep that spark lit, you know?"
Keith shrugged. "I thought they were all pretty great."
"Yeah, but that sort of thing has to be mutual. We both have to agree that the dates went well. They might've been fantastic for you, but for me, they just fizzled out, went bad." Sky replied, trying to find the right wording.
"Sky, what are you trying to say?" Keith narrowed his eyes seriously.
"I'm really sorry, Keith, but I think we need to break up." Sky apologized.
He frowned. "You want to break up?"
"Yes, and I mean not like 'take a break' break up, but 'break up' break up. See what I'm saying? Even if we take a break from each other, I just can't see us getting back together." Sky sighed again.
Keith was quiet for a moment. "It's because of that Dave dork, isn't it?"
"No, it's not because of Dave," Sky narrowed her eyes towards Keith, "and he's not a dork. He's my friend."
"No, I saw the show. You like him, don't you?" Keith stood up.
"A little, but so what if I do? At least, I chose to wait until we broke up before I started seeing Dave as something more than a friend." Sky stood up as well.
"You almost kissed the guy while we were dating!"
"But I didn't!"
"You still almost did!"
"Whatever, Keith! This shows just how much of a bad boyfriend you were. You're so hung up on something that almost happened, but didn't! I'm done, alright! I am done!"
"…Get out of here." Keith muttered.
"Excuse me?" Sky raised an eyebrow challengingly.
"I said get out of here! Don't ever come around here again!" Keith stomped back into his house.
"Fine by me! And you started it by calling my friend a dork!" She glared at the back of his head.
"No, you started it by almost kissing the guy, and having the nerve to come and break up with me after!"
"Gah! I never should've started dating you in the first place!"
"Same to you!"
"Fine!"
"Fine!" Keith slammed the front door shut.
Sky breathed heavily, venting her frustration. Once she calmed down after a moment, she turned her back to the house, and walked down the walkway, starting off on her trip down the sidewalk.
Soon, she arrived at where the helicopter was waiting. Chef sat in the pilot seat, and Dave and Jasmine stood waiting outside next to it.
"I did it. I broke up with him, now let's get back to the resort." Sky declared, marching up to them.
"How did it go?" Dave asked as they boarded the transport.
"Yeah, why do you look like an emu after its territory's been invaded?" Jasmine saw the look on Sky's face.
"It went worse than it should've gone. I tried to let him down gently, and he blows up at me. Technically, we both did, but he started the whole thing. Ugh, how did I manage to date him for so long?" Sky huffed as she settled into a seat.
Jasmine and Dave sat beside her. "I think you just got a glimpse of who he truly is." Jasmine ventured a guess.
Sky nodded, "Yeah, I did." She sighed miserably. "Thanks for convincing Chef to fly me over here, Jasmine."
"It was something you needed to do. I was happy to help."
Then Sky turned to Dave. "Thanks for coming for moral support, Dave."
Dave shrugged. "What are friends for, right?"
Jasmine smiled at the sight of the two friends, and put her hand next to her mouth. "Take us back, Chef! Our work here is done!"
Chef huffed, "Yeah, yeah… dumb kids and their dumb relationship problems…" He grumbled as he started up the helicopter, and began the flight back to the resort.
A few months later, it was the night of Christmas Eve. Sky finished putting on the same clothes she had put on the first time Christmas Eve came around, glanced thankfully at the snowflake decoration sitting on her desk, and walked over to her closet. Throwing her door open, she reached in, and pulled out her Christmas present for Dave, along with a few others for her other friends. Once she closed up her closet, and addressed all presents for their recipients, she scooped them all up and made her way down to the Christmas Eve party.
The party was in nearly the exact same swing as the first time. From Cody pestering Dawn with questions about his gifts to Topher talking with Jasmine, Shawn, and Sammy to even the littlest detail about Owen and Izzy singing '99 Marshmallows in a Bag'. Blaineley was also absent again. The only real differences were Dave and Ella were already present at the festivities, and Sugar's hair was still in the process of growing back. Sky still couldn't believe that Dave's baldness went to Sugar in the new timeline. Even Scarlett was there since she had gotten off easy for not actually endangering anyone's life.
When the elevator reached the main floor, Sky stepped out with her arms full of presents, and made her way towards the tree immediately to relieve herself of her load.
"Yo, Sky! Merry Christmas, sister!" Leshawna greeted her as she passed by.
"Merry Christmas, Leshawna!" Sky replied.
"Hehe, Sky comes bearing gifts! Merry Christmas, Sky!" Sam chuckled upon seeing the gifts in her arms.
"Hi, Sam! Merry Christmas! You too, Dakota!" Sky continued maneuvering around the party towards the tree.
"Yeah, sure, Merry Christmas to you too." Dakota waved absently as she passed by, focused on her phone. After a moment, her phone pinged, and she gripped it tighter than she already was. "Dang it! I'm out of Upset Pigs! I almost had that one. Stupid birds…"
"Just restart the level and try again, you'll get it this time." Sam encouraged her, peering at the screen from off to the side.
"Christmas… present… farkle…" Rodney stammered as Sky slipped past him.
"Merry Christmas, Rodney." Sky finally got to the tree, and bent down to slip the presents under the tree. After she arranged them, she glanced at the other wrapped packages underneath the tree as well. Thankfully, no box of snakes this time. She wasn't sure if she had prevented that particular detail in the timeline.
Standing up, she found Dave in his red shirt with the evergreen trees.
"Dave, Merry Christmas!" She greeted him, giving him a hug.
"Merry Christmas, Sky!" He hugged her back. They broke the hug, and Dave noticed something in the room. "Hey, check it out." Sky followed his glance.
Gwen sat with Trent, happily chatting away. Courtney walked by with a snack, and waved to Gwen as she did so. Heck, even Duncan shot her a finger pistol as he walked over to converse with Scott.
Dave smiled slightly. "I guess Gwen must've made amends with them."
"Yeah, I guess she did…" Sky smiled slightly as well. Gwen took her advice after all. After watching Gwen be happy for a moment, she took Dave's hand and they went to go join Ella, Lindsay, and the others in watching one of Ella's Christmas specials.
After the special ended, they went and had snacks, enjoying their company of each other. Dave said something that made Sky laugh so hard that she almost shot milk out of her nose. At the end of their snack, they noticed that it was nearing nine o' clock, so they figured they should go out and wait for Geoff to announce gift exchanges. As they entered the lobby, Sky couldn't help but notice a dark red wallet jutting out of Scott's back pocket. She opened her mouth to say something, but someone else beat her to the punch.
"We're waiting to see how long it takes until Alejandro notices we stole his wallet." Duncan whispered over to her with a grin.
She nodded in understanding, and kept quiet. Shortly after, Geoff made his announcement.
"Hey, yo, everybody? Dudes, you listening up?" Geoff called for everyone's attention. Everyone stopped what they were doing, and looked to him. "Alright, it's nine, and as the rest of you dudes know, except possibly for the new dudes, it's time for presents!"
Much more in the Christmas spirit this time around, Sky let out a whoop of enthusiasm, leading everyone else to start cheering and applauding as well.
"Yes, presents!" Owen cheered, grabbing Noah and pulling the sarcasm master in for a bone-crushing hug. Noah squeaked in pain.
"So, who wants to go first?" Geoff asked around.
Trent stepped forward. "I think I'll go."
"Alright, Trent, take it away bro!" Geoff stepped down from the stepstool, and picked it up to go put back in its proper place.
Sky watched intently as Trent made his way over to the tree, and reached under it. He pulled out a small, rectangular gift tied with an emerald green ribbon, and walked it over to Gwen.
"Here Gwen, Merry Christmas." He handed it over to the Goth girl.
Gwen seemed surprised by the gift. "Um, thanks…" She glanced up, and saw everyone watching expectantly. Uncomfortably, she tore open the wrapping paper and ribbon at a slow pace.
Sky found herself nearly itching to know what Trent had given her friend.
Gwen finished opening the wrapping paper, and dropped the shreds to the floor. In her hands, she held a brand new diary. It looked like her other one, but newer. It was as if her old diary was as good as new. She stared at it for a moment before she looked up at her gift giver.
The musician sheepishly scratched the back of his head. "You told me that you were running out of space in your diary, so I went out and bought a new one for you. I wasn't sure if you wanted a new one in a different color, so I just stuck with the colors I knew you liked."
"Trent," Gwen began to say, "This is a great present. Thank you." She emphasized the statement with a hug.
"You're welcome." He responded, letting everyone see his smile over her shoulder.
"Ch'yeah! Let's tear open those presents, peeps!" Geoff declared as the two friends broke their hug off.
That was the cue for everyone else. Everyone reached for their presents under the tree at the same time, and gathered up all the presents they were handing out before giving them to their assigned individuals. Bridgette got Geoff a wetsuit, Shawn got both Jasmine and Sammy books on surviving a zombie apocalypse, and Zoey got Mike a necklace that matched her flower hairclip but with blue colors. Once Sky had gotten all the other presents around to everyone else on her list, she approached Dave at long last with his.
"Merry Christmas, Dave." Sky smiled as she handed his present over.
"For me?" Dave questioned as he held the present in his arms. He ripped open the wrapping paper, and gasped at what he found underneath. "The Alpha Cleansing Kit?! How did you get this? It's like the most expensive and most effective array of cleaning supplies in the world!" He held up the kit to examine it further.
Sky blushed embarrassingly. "I knew that you liked to clean and stuff so I thought I would get you the best of the best. I saved up money the past few months doing odd jobs for everyone here, and Chris and Chef too."
"Sky, this is amazing! Thank you so much!" Dave thanked her, grinning widely. His eyes gained a spark. "Oh, I have something for you too." He set the kit down, and reached for a small present sitting on the table next to where they were standing.
The gymnast took the gift, and opened it up. Inside was a simple, purple necklace that had three letters: 'S', 'K', 'Y' strewn across the string and were surrounded by teal blue beads.
It was Dave's turn to blush as Sky picked the necklace out of its box. "I never beaded a necklace together like that before so I had to ask that one farm girl, Beth, for help with it. Do you like it?"
"Dave," Sky started, "It's beautiful."
"I know the colors don't exactly go with your shirt right now, so you can try it on later with something that matches better. All I needed to know was that you liked it." Dave replied, shrugging off the problem at hand.
"Yeah, I definitely like it." Sky lowered the necklace back into its box, and leaned over to kiss Dave on the cheek. "Thank you."
Dave's eyes went wide, and he slowly raised a hand to his cheek. Sky thought his behavior was a little weird, and was about to ask about it when he broke into the biggest grin he ever had. "Yes! My first kiss from a girl that wasn't my mom!" He shouted to the ceiling, drawing the attention of everyone surrounding them. His face went blank immediately after. "And I just embarrassed myself in front of the entire cast…"
Everyone returned to their original conversations, pretending that they didn't hear anything, and Sky covered her mouth with her hand to hide her giggles. She heard an excited shout as she finished giggling, and looked to her right to see Topher running around with a cellphone in hand.
"That was Chris! He said that he talked to the producers, and they're letting me audition to be the host of some Total Drama spinoff race! Something about a competitor turned host could really boost the idea. I could be a host!" He ran off as soon as he came, eagerly rushing over to the next nearest people to tell them the good news.
Harold, who had been gazing out the resort's windows, grinned as snow fell from the sky and clumped together on the ground. He turned to everyone else. "Hey, everybody! Looks like there's enough snow outside. You know what that means?"
Geoff heard the madly-skilled nerd, and broke into a wide grin. "Dudes, snowball fight!" He hollered around the lobby. Mostly everyone cheered, and darted off to their rooms to collect their winter wear. Those who didn't cheer shrugged, and went to go get their winter wear anyway.
Not ten minutes later, everyone was out in the plaza, having one big snowball fight. Some campers were hiding behind walls of snow, rising up to chuck snowballs occasionally, and others were running around like madmen, chucking snow at anyone that caught their sight.
"Come on, Team E-scope! Show no mercy!" Izzy commanded behind her team's wall.
"Let it be known that I'm only doing this because you threatened to shove snow down my pants." Noah remarked as he unenthusiastically contributed to the crossfire.
Owen chuckled, "Being on Team E-scope is so much fun! Group hug!" He spread out his arms for a hug.
"No." Eva responded flatly, rising up momentarily to throw a ball square between Tyler's eyes which knocked him down on his back.
"Woohoo! Go Mike!" Zoey cheered behind her wall alongside Cameron. Mike was out in the field, expertly dodging all projectiles coming his way with help of Svetlana's gymnastics.
Lightning cried out, "Sha-Lightning!" as he threw a volley of snow at all his opponents while running around the plaza.
Dakota giggled from behind a wall she was sharing with Sam, Staci, Dawn, and B. "I love these snowball fights. This one reminds me of last year's. I can't believe a person could have this much fun with snow!"
"Prepare to suffer," Max declared dramatically from behind another wall with a hand-crafted snowball launcher, "At the wrath of- ow! Hey, I wasn't done making my- ow! Cease fire- ow! Sidekick, protect me with your body- ow!" He exclaimed as everyone seemed to fire at him until he retreated, and then they all returned to firing at each other.
"So, could zombies handle this kind of weather?" Sammy asked Shawn as they fought alongside Jasmine.
"Nope, they're more warm-blooded. We would not want to be in a place like Egypt because of that." Shawn answered, throwing out a snowball.
"You're going down, Samey! You're not beating me in a snowball fight! Agh!" Amy was cut off by a snowball slamming into her face.
"That ought to shut her up." Jasmine wiped her gloved hands of snow while glaring at the mean twin. She gave Sammy a smile, getting a smile out of the twin in return.
Sky threw out a snowball, and ducked next to Dave. "Isn't this fun?"
"I don't really see what's fun about getting hit by frozen water, and it eventually getting into your pants and shoes." Dave answered.
"You're being too negative about this. Just enjoy it." Sky threw another snowball. "I'm going for another round. Wish me luck!" Gathering up snowballs in her arms, Sky ran out from behind shelter and started pelting anyone she ran by.
Watching Sky run and throw snowballs got through to Dave, he thought she looked hilarious how she ran and threw snow at the same time. He laughed loudly as she struck Sugar from behind.
The snowball fight continued late into Christmas Eve night, no one being true enemies throughout the game. It was pure-hearted fun for all who participated.
Inside the resort, and inside Sky's room, the magic snowflake decoration sat on the desk. It sparkled and shined a bit in the dark before it vanished in a snowy dust on an unnatural breeze, leaving no trace.
And that's the end. It always feels so good to finish another project. This takes one off my agenda, now to work on the others. Hope you enjoyed the story, and remember to review! Reviews are awesome!
