Recap:
Tsunade looked up, staring at the team in front of her as well as the council,"Well, team Kakashi, you have your assignment. The first thing you must do is somehow track down the scroll used to send Natsumi to this 'London, England' place she is in and bring her back here."The Godaime hokage ordered, the team in their presence went to work immediately, separating to their respective homes to prepare for the missions first part. Retrieving the scroll.
Natsumi POV
Once I had sent the scroll, hoping that it had made it to the intended destination, I looked back up, hearing the sound of footsteps outside the doorway in the hall. I heard the door click as it was opened, and my eyes narrowed. It would only click if they had to unlock it first. Figures they wouldn't actually trust me with anything, huffing quietly, I watched as the butler and Earl both entered. Both were still eerily interested in what I had to tell them, and I had already divulged that there were some questions that might involve classified intel, which meant they wouldn't be getting those answers at least.
"You told us both that you would divulge the information concerning your ranking system." The Earl prompted immediately, and I somewhat had to commend him for being so persistent about the subject, as trivial as this would be to experienced shinobi.
"We have two systems actually. One to rank the place a shinobi is capable, and another to rank criminals and jutsu class power."
Sebastian perked up at this,"Criminals?"
I almost laughed at both their eager expressions, almost,"Yes, Criminals. Do you want to hear that system first?" They both nodded, one more subdued than the other, trying and failing to mask their interest on the subject.
"As you already know, there are such things as Missing Ninja, or Rogue Shinobi, or missing nin. There are also your general class thieves, bandits, cartel leaders, drug lords, etcetera etcetera. The lowest ranking for these classes is a D rank, and these are usually treated casually as the majority of these are genin rogue nin who've just left their village or civilian criminals. The rankings themselves go up to S. S ranked criminals are either international criminals such as mass murderers, or they are higher leveled shinobi who have gone rogue. These nin and any with this ranking are always dangerous, and are generally either marked for execution-"
Ciel and Sebastian's faces morphed with slight shock, although the latter not nearly as much as his master's.
"Or they are posted as wanted dead or alive, every criminal S rank to around C rank and some D ranks have bounties on their heads, shinobi or not. A ranks are less dangerous than S, and B less dangerous than A, and so on so forth. S-C ranks are generally reserved for either high class criminals or rogue shinobi."
Sebastian looked at me, contemplative as he stared me down,"I see, and what of this shinobi ranking system?"
I flipped into that immediately, needing no further prompting as I could see Ciel's confused gaze,"The lowest ranking you can be in that system is a genin, these, unless you've either never taken a test to pass on to the next level, are the starting shinobi, they are still technically learning and are assigned to a jonin level ninja to be their mentor and sensei until they reach Chunin level. Chunins are the second level for a shinobi, the test has 3 phases, a written test, survival and retrieval, and then finally combat. All tests have a combat phase to them, and some more often than not have varying degrees of extreme to minor survival phases."
Ciel stared at me,"What's the highest class? And which class are you sorted in?"
I smirked,"ANBU is the highest ranking you can achieve as a shinobi. It is also the most selective. I am a member of the ANBU." I answered smoothly, both their mouths dropped in shock, before Sebastian recovered and decided to ask a question.
"What did you do to get into the ANBU, how many phases of testing did you go through?"
"...around 4 phases. And to get into the ANBU, I had to first show I could survive in extreme conditions, blizzards, dessert, icy cold or scalding hot, I had to face it for the survival phase. Next was espionage, I had to gather a certain amount of intelligence, which I am not going to disclose as it was an actual mission that I later realized was old and very classified, once finished with that, we went into combat, facing off against first each other, then grouping into two to four man teams and facing one of the chosen instructors who were already ANBU. Lastly was interrogation. I went through physical, mental, and emotional torture whilst a proctor, specifically Ibiki Morino, tried his hardest to get information out of me that I had gained from back in the espionage phase…...it lasted over a month."
Their jaws dropped, I held no such positive reaction to this, no satisfaction or contentment from their surprised expressions at my ability to endure such tortures. That piece of the test had been hell, but it had helped prepare me in case of capture so I wouldn't disclose classified information or village secrets, the ANBU test was no secret if you knew who to ask about it, so I wasn't causing any type of betrayal by giving out such information, I knew most of the other ANBU tests for the other ninja villages as well after all, most went with the same as Konoha, Kiri had been about the only test I had encountered in my gathering of information that had actually involved anything more violent than the normal tests.
"I...believe I have satisfied my curiosity for now, I may ask you more questions later." Ciel stated after a long pause.
"I have one for you then, Phantomhive-san." I murmured lowly, beginning to lean forward towards them.
"And that is?" He prompted.
"Why was the door locked to this room? I am of no threat to you if you are of no threat to me, so why feel the need to seemingly lock me away and supposedly block me off from coming out of the room of my own accord?" I asked flatly, gaze hard as my ruby gaze locked with royal blue. Ciel legitimately paled, eyes widening. I knew the gaze I held was intimidating, and at the moment I was thoroughly offended by the thought they thought me a threat to either of them as soon as I had healed myself. Sebastian immediately came to the boy's defense, as I suppose might've been expected of him as the bluenette's butler.
"We meant no disrespect or offense by such an action, we were merely being cautious of both our own and your safety, the door was locked so that no harm could come to you whilst you slept." He smoothly defended, interjecting the stunned and slightly scared Earl. I narrowed my eyes at them both.
"You are meaning offense in that statement alone by underestimating my abilities. I have faced death several times during my life, and have adapted to suit such threats. I am a light sleeper in such cases and can sense when someone is too close to my prone frame. It also disrespects my abilities that you believe still so weak as to be overpowered by such an encounter." I hissed out, both lowered their gaze after a pause, one dipping his head and the other lowering himself into an apologetic bow.
"Our sincerest apologies then for offending and disrespecting you." They said finally, somewhat in sinc, although one more reluctant than the other.
Hello everyone! This will probably be the last chapter that I will do of this story unless I decide to (again) change what I write for NaNoWriMo. Or if I decide to stop and remove the NaNoWriMo account I have in favor of doing this again as a hobby in my freetime for fun instead to meet certain word counts.
