Chapter 11
When the owls and the cats reached the end of the road they were standing in front of a house. Soren looked around. There was a lot of weird stuff littering the lawn, didn't seem promising if they wanted to find someone inside.
He turned back to the others. Digger gave a shrug. Soren sighed and flapped over to the door. He knocked. A rather large frog opened the door. "Movie characters." Gylfie whispered.
Soren was inclined to agree. Movie characters looked exactly like they did in their movies. Unless they were from a book first and the book had a different title. It was how the owls were spared looking like their movie counterparts. When they were cartoons, or in this case puppets, it was rather telling.
"Hello there. I'm Kermit the frog." He greeted.
"I'm Soren. This is Gylfie, Twilight, and Digger. We. . ."
"Thanks for including us." Jayfeather snarled.
"Oh. Right." Soren was so used to only introducing himself and the band, he'd forgotten about the others. He took a deep breath, there were a lot of characters to introduce. "They're Firestar, Tigerstar, Jayfeather, Hollyleaf, Lionblaze, Scourge, and my brother Kludd." Soren spoke quickly.
"Okay. . ." Kermit was still clearly trying to catch up.
Soren didn't stop talking though. "We were wondering if you had any gas?"
"That's why you're here?" Kermit asked. Soren nodded. "Oh. . ." He seemed disappointed about that.
"Something else you were hoping for?" Digger asked.
"Well yes. See we preform here, but we haven't had an audience. . ."
Twilight cut off Kermit's explanation. "You preform?!" He asked excitedly. "What do you do?!"
"Well, singing, dancing. . ."
"Yes! We'd love to be the audience!" Twilight accepted.
"We would?" Kludd all but groaned.
"Oh yeah!" Twilight insisted.
If Kermit was skeptical about this, and Digger suspected he was, he kept it to himself for the sake of having an audience.
"Well that's great, come on in," Kermit ushered them in.
Sure enough, the house was definitely set up for them to preform. The biggest part was the stage and seats for the audience. The owls, being light and small sat on the headrests while the cats took the actual seats.
A few moments later the muppets were set up and staring.
"It's time to play the music, it's time to light the lights."
Lionblaze swung his head back and forth slowly to the rhythm.
"You just had to encourage them didn't you?" an old man next to Twilight asked.
"Careful, or I'll be making some songs of my own, and believe me they're insulting," Twilight countered.
The old man turned to one next to him, and both of them turned back to Twilight.
"It's time to get things started on the most sensational, inspirational. . ."
In the end, Twilight, Statler, and Waldorf missed the entire show by insulting each other. Not that Statler and Waldorf minded, they were winning and it was making Twilight quite flustered. In fact it eventually caught Kludd's attention and he got a good laugh at his killer's expense.
"So did you like it?" Kermit asked after the show.
He was dragging some gas over for them.
"Yeah, it was great," Soren assured him.
"It was a little short. . ." Lionblaze said.
He sounded legitimately disappointed.
"Oh it's usually longer," Kermit told him. "It's just we didn't have a guest today so-"
"You guys have guests?" Lionblaze asked eagerly. "Can I be one?"
"What?" Jayfeather hissed. "Lionblaze you can't even sing."
"They do things other than sing," Lionblaze pointed out.
"Yeah we do," Kermit agreed. He ran back behind the curtain. "Hey guys, get ready for another! We've got a guest!"
This was greeted with much cheering. Jayfeather looked put out meanwhile.
"Great, now we have to sit through that again. And," he turned towards Statler and Waldorf, "Don't say that remark I know you're thinking. Even if it's true."
"Oh come on Jayfeather, they're not that bad," Firestar insisted.
While he and Jayfeather argued how good the muppets were Lionblaze turned to the other cats and tried to get them to help him figure out what to do. Jayfeather had a point after all, his skill set was exactly for the muppets.
Twilight took a step forward, whether that was to help Lionblaze or Firestar no one knew, and no one found out. Gylfie held out a wing. True, it was too tiny to stop him, but he was used to stopping when he felt her wing so he did and looked down.
"Twilight, we should really get the gas back to the car." She added in a lower tone, "And if we leave now we can ditch the cats."
Twilight seemed to think that over. Then he nodded slowly.
"You're leaving?" Statler asked.
"Can we come with you?" Waldorf added.
"Yes," Kludd answered instantly.
At the same time Twilight said, "No."
The two glared at each other. So did Soren.
"Guys!" he hissed under his breath. He turned back to the men. "You can if you want, but I'm not sure you'll find it an improvement."
"This is the muppets, any place is an improvement," Waldorf countered.
"Besides, I don't think you can get that back on your own," Statler pointed out.
He gestured to the gas and the owls all turned to it. They had to admit he had a point. Last time they'd had to push the gas on wheels, and they'd still had help from the cats.
"Oh yeah," they all chorused.
(Sorry this is a subpar chapter. It's mostly a transition chapter I'll admit I wasn't very invested in.)
