The next morning we had the day off. It was a Saturday and a slow one at that. I laid in the living room still sore from the injuries, while Gibbs worked in the basement. Hearing a car pull into the drive way, I lifted my head to see Vance walk in.
Seeing me, he crouched down and called me over. "Hey Luna." Trotting over to him, I head butted him in the chest. I may be part human, but I was also part canine. I needed and wanted attention. I was still pissed off at Gibbs, there for I have gotten none today. "How you feeling? hmm?" His hands ran over my cuts, causing me to yelp, a frown formed on his brows. "Why are you not stitched up?" Giving me a gentle pat on the neck, he headed for the basement. I followed. We found Gibbs working on what looked like a boat. "Another boat?" Gibbs ignored him. "You planning another trip?"
"Not anytime soon." Gibbs replied.
He nodded, glancing at me, he turned back to Gibbs. "Why is she not stitched up? Her wound is open."
Gibbs eyes landed on me, then back to his boat. "She won't let me go near her. Either she growls or tries to take a bite of me."
Vance raised a brow. "Any reason for that change in behavior?"
"I may have forced her to leave my side last night." He glanced at Vance, guilt swimming in his eyes. "With force."
Vance shook his head. "You are going to have to gain that trust back Gibbs. If that trust is gone, then she will not be good for the team."
"I know Leon. I know."
Watching him work on the boat, he finally spoke up once more. "Miss. Sciuto with be weeks cleaning up the damage from the virus. Kevin, he was helpful, but he's still looking at serious time."
Gibbs hummed. "Well I will bet you didn't come all the way down here to just tell me that, Leon."
Vance pulled the file from behind his back, pulling a paper and placing it on the boats beam. "Look familiar? Sergei Mishnev. International mercenary. Funded by Oligarchs. Long list of offenses." I growled at hearing the mans name. "She sure does."
Gibbs scoffed. "Well she nearly teared him apart that night. Besides the only one that matters is he killed two pilots and a petty officer."
"Not if you consider his friendship with Ari Haswari." Vance said. "See his deal with Kevin may have just been a plan to get back at us."
I was totally confused. 'Who the hell was Ari?'
"His plan backfired." Gibbs replied.
"No, Gibbs." Vance stated. "Our intel says Sergei survived." Both Gibbs and I were taken back by that.
"What?" Gibbs took his glasses off, looking at me he shook his head. "How? I hit him. He went down. Luna attacked him. Nearly ripped his spine out."
"He got up." Vance growled. "No body was recovered. And wherever he is now, knowing all this, there's a good chance he'll be gunning for us."
Gibbs grabbed the picture, stabbing it into a nail on the wall. "Not if we find him first."
Vance took in a deep breath, giving him a stiff nod. "Lets get to work." With a small grin, he jogged back up the stairs. "And get her fixed up."
Gibbs exhaled deeply, crouching down he called me over. "Come." I lowered my head, but made no move towards him. "Luna come." Seeing him sit on the floor, he held his hand out. "Please?" Dropping to my stomach, I turned my face away from him. "I am sorry. Sorry I kicked you. I ordered you away. I am sorry, but I didn't want anything to happen to you." Hearing a resigned sigh, I looked over at him. His eyes showed nothing, but fatigued and regret. Slowly standing, I walked over to him. Leaning forward, I gently licked his cheek and placed my head on his shoulder. "I really am sorry."
'I know.' Pulling back, I looked into his eyes. 'But do that again and we will have a real problem.'
Gibbs smiled softly. "From now on you stay with me."
'Deal.'
After he stitched me up, he picked me up, carried me into the bathroom and placed me into the tub. Gibbs grabbed the water head and allowed the warm water cascade over my body. The blood, dirt and grime falling out of my fur. His hands ran all over my body, making sure he missed no spot, but careful of my newly stitches. Grabbing the shampoo, he squirted it over my head and back. I growled happily at the nice massage I was getting. Racking his fingers into the fur of my neck, he removed Sergei's blood from my muzzle. I could see his eyes darkening at the sight of the blood.
"We will get him. Of that I am completely sure." He mumbled.
Giving him a lick, I shook myself, wetting him in the process. 'I know we will.'
"Damnit Luna!" Gibbs yelled, grabbing the towel from the floor he wiped his face. "That was not funny."
"Just a little boss."
We both looked up to see Tony and the others at the door way. Gibbs turned on the water, rising the soap off me. "What are you all doing here?"
"Well it is Saturday."
Gibbs tossed them a look. "So it is."
"Well we were going to grill some meat and wanted to know is you'd like to join us?" Tim asked.
Shutting the water off, he quickly closed the curtain, just as I shook myself dry. Letting me out, he kneeled beside me, running the towel over my body. "In other words, Tony's grill failed again and you want to use mine." The guilty look on their face was all he needed. "Go ahead, but Tony is not allowed to use it."
"Aw, come on boss." Tony whined, following the others out to the back yard.
"I mean it!" Gibbs yelled out after them. Grabbing my face in his hands, he sighed. "When did my agents become such teenagers." Giving me a kiss on the head, he draped the towel over the curtain rail. "Come on."
The day went nice and calm. Gibbs and the team spent the afternoon cooking, drinking and eating. I laid in the grass, soaking up the sun. Of course that was short lived, as the sound of a howling wolf caught my attention. Jumping to my feet, I listened closely. They howled once more, it was close.
"Since when do we have wolves so close?" Tim asked, a slight shiver in his tone.
Gibbs frowned. "I don't know. It's not normal."
"Probably curious of Luna." Ziva mumbled.
I took a few steps towards the woods, stopping as I heard them once more. Casting a look at my team, I bolted into the trees. I heard Gibbs shout for me, but I had to find them. I knew that howl. I knew who that was. Jumping over logs, dodging plants and trees, I reached the middle. Panting hard, I tossed my head back and howled. Running off into the direction the response came from. Slowing down to a trot, I frowned at finding no one. No scent. No prints. Nothing. With a huff, I turned to head back, only to have a black shadow knock me to my side.
Growling and snapping, I stood looking for the attacker. I froze. "Midnight?"
Midnight chuckled, coming over to me and head butted my neck. "Long time no see."
"Where have you been?" I still couldn't believe he was here again. "I thought the hunters had gotten to you all."
"No, but they were close." With a heavy sigh, he sat down beside me. "I am sorry for just up and leaving that way. But they caught us off guard. We barely got out of there intact, Ty took a bullet to the shoulder."
I whimpered. "Is he okay?"
He shook his head. "We heal the moment the wound is made, but if the bullet is still in there-"
"We heal over the wound." I mumbled. "So he is dying."
Midnight nodded. "The wound reopened yesterday and will not close."
"Where is he?"
"Just a few miles deeper in the woods."
I smirked at the idea popping into my nutty head. "Can he walk?"
Midnight frown. "Yes, why?"
"Bring him to Gibbs house. They can help with the bullet." I yelped.
"Are you insane? They will shoot us the second they see us." The alpha growled.
I resisted rolling my eyes. "It's your only option, unless your okay with him dying." Without another word, he ran off. Not sure if he was going to Ty or leaving, I sat still for a few minutes. Just as I was going to give up, I spotted Midnight, Ty and Amy his mate. Ty was being supported up between the two wolves. "Hey Ty, how you feeling?"
The yellow wolf scoffed. "Like I've been shot."
"Yeah, I know that feeling." Leading them to the edge of the woods, I stopped. "Give me a moment, we can't just pop out." Walking out I gave a loud bark.
"Well, look who is back." Tim said.
Tony scoffed. "Must have smelt the meat all cooked."
Gibbs glanced at me with a raised brow. "You are not getting any."
Ziva laughed, making her way towards me. "Don't listen to him. Come on Luna." Kneeling in front of me, I took a few steps back. She frowned, holding her hand out. "Hey, whats wrong?" She stepped forward once more, she petted me once, before I then stepped back. "Luna?"
"Ziva? What's wrong?" Gibbs called.
"I don't know!" Her eyes were focused on me, trying to figure out what I wanted.
'I hate not able to talk!' Trotting into the woods, I stood before the others. Ty was laying on the forest floor, his breathing labor and coming in fast pants. Giving a loud howl, I wagged my tail in seeing Ziva follow. She stopped frozen, staring at the three wolves behind me. 'Don't harm her.' I warn the others.
Ziva didn't know what she was suppose to do. Taking a step back, she frowned at the sight of the yellow wolf. He laid on the ground, covered in blood and breathing in huffs. "Gibbs! You better come here!" Slowly she walked to the fallen wolf, quickly finding the reason for his pain. Taking off her top blouse, she placed it over the wound. "Gibbs!"
I moved to stand between the wolves and my team. They might not mean to harm them, but one whimper or growl from Ty could trigger their attack. Gibbs, Tony and Tim appeared quickly, all stunned at the sight.
Gibbs shook his head, putting his gun away. "What's wrong with it?"
"Bullet wound on the shoulder blade." Ziva explained.
Tony looked at it closely. The bleeding wouldn't stop and the wolf looked good as dead. "He is badly shaped boss. Think it's best to end his suffering."
"Tony!" Ziva snapped.
Gibbs nodded. "No he is right, that animal is suffering." Pulling his gun out, he aim for his head. "Ziva move." Just as Ziva moved, I stood between the gun and Ty. "Luna, out the way!" Looking up at him and whimpering, I stepped over Ty, covering his body with mine. Gibbs sighed, before lowering the weapon. "Fine. But if we can't help him, he will be put down. Understand?" Luna woofed, getting out of the way, so they could help him. "Alright, Tim clear the table back there. Ziva, I need water, towels, alcohol, knife, tweezers, thread and needle." Gibbs ordered, as he walked around the wolf, stopping at it's head. "Tony, help me carry him back to the house."
We followed them as they carried Ty to the picnic table. Tim had cleared everything off the table. He came over to me, placing my plate with meat in front of me. I laughed as he placed a larger bowl in front of Amy and Midnight. Walking over to the table, I stood on my hind legs, placing my front paws in the front on the edge of the table. Gibbs had wrapped rope around Ty's mouth, and was currently feeling around the wound for the bullet. He then pour water into the wound, cleaning out the dirt from it. He proceeded to pour alcohol, causing Ty to growl and thrash. It took all of Tim and Tony's strength to hold him down. I winced as I saw the tweezers dig into the hole, Ty cried, clawing at the table trying to get away. Leaning forward, I gave him a few licks over his face and head, trying to give him some comfort. Letting my head rest of his, he relax a tad bit. Once the bullet was out, Gibbs quickly cleaned it out once more and stitched him up. Not that, that was necessary, but he didn't need to know that. The team stood back, watching as Midnight and Amy rushed to inspect the wolf. At one point Midnight trotted over to Gibbs, head butted his hand as a thank you. Once Ty regained a bit of his strength, he jumped off the table. Casting one look at the team, he and Amy bolted off into the woods, stopping at the edge for Midnight.
"Thank you." Midnight said.
I shrugged. "It's the least I can do. Will you be staying around here?"
He chuckled. "Might stick around for a while." With a sly smirk, he ran off.
"That was…eventful." Tony mumbled.
Gibbs called me over to him. "No more wolves." Giving him a lick on the cheek, I focused on eating my food.
Tim chuckled. "You have to admit, she is one of a kind."
"Yeah, she is." Gibbs whispered.
