Potomac General – Evening
Alex wasn't very optimistic as she looked down at the tray of what was supposed to be meatloaf, mashed potatoes and gravy and broccoli. It looked like a lot of other things but definitely not like what she had checked off of her menu card earlier in the day. She was hungry but the sight of the mystery before her made her suddenly lose her appetite.
Hotch and Rossi strolled in her room smiling as if they had read her mind and then Rossi pulled a white bag from behind his back and placed it next to the tray.
"Bacon cheese burger, waffle fries and a slice of lemon cake."
"My knight in shining armor! Thank you!"
"You're looking better." Hotch piped in.
"Well, I feel better considering earlier, I don't even mind the nagging pain in my gut."
Alex began digging through the bag. Rossi noticed that she really was struggling with the pain and took over the job of placing the food in front of her and moving the hospital tray on to the side table next to her bed.
"I was just about to call you, Hotch."
"What's up?"
"I remembered something that happened while we were being held in the warehouse."
Alex picked up one of the fries and devoured it.
"What is it?"
"Kirkwood received a phone call while he and I were alone."
"From who?" Rossi asked.
"I heard him call them, 'Aunt Mabel.'"
"We'll need to check that out. We don't want any more surprises."
"Who ever this Aunt Mabel is, he was pretty pissed with her."
"Why?" Asked Hotch.
"Because she was calling from inside the FBI headquarters."
"We need to get the team together. This isn't over. Dave you call Cruz and have him to join us. I'll call everyone else."
"Do you think we're still in danger?"
"I don't know but we can't take any chances. I'm going to have an armed detail outside your door until we find this partner."
Home of Penelope Garcia –
"JJ, where is he? He should have been back three hours ago!"
"Calm down, Garcia, I'm sure there's a perfect explanation for it."
"JJ, I'm worried. Morgan is always on time. If he's going to be late he calls. He knows how I worry…"
"Come on, maybe his meeting with Hotch ran over. With those two stubborn alpha males they may be duking it out in the parking lot by now."
JJ checked her watch; she didn't want to admit to her friend that she was worried too. Morgan was crazy about Garcia and it would take an act of God to pry him from her side for more than an hour and only if he had no choice.
"I'll call Hotch to see if he's still there."
"Thanks, JJ."
Just then, JJ's phone rings. She grabs it from her purse and notices Hotch's name on the screen.
"Speak of the devil, it's Hotch.
"Hey Hotch."
"Hey, Rossi and I are at the hospital with Alex; she thinks Kirkwood may have a partner inside of the FBI. I need you and Garcia to meet us at the office. Now, JJ!"
"On our way."
Home of Mabel Henry –
Morgan slowly began to come to; his head pounding, arms and feet bound tightly he struggled to move and to make sense of what was going on. He didn't know how long he'd been lying on the basement floor… or why. He'd agreed to come in for a few minutes to keep a lonely old lady company, then, she'd told him stories about her life and offered him tea. He wanted to get back to Garcia… she would be worried if he didn't get back soon. He remembered his promise years ago, after the case in New York that he'd never make her worry again. They both knew he would never be able to keep that promise with what they did for a living. Still, she was expecting him back and now he was here, helpless, hurting and alone and no one was looking for him.
There was more to this old lady than he realized, for one thing she swung a mean teakettle. He was coming to realize that Mabel Henry was not as old or weak and helpless as she wanted him to believe.
The door opened above him and the light that shown through caused him to squint and adjust his eyes. It was her; briskly descending the stairs and with a new sense of youth, she grabbed a folding chair from the darkness of the room and sat in front of him as if she had all the time in the world.
"Agent Morgan, good to see you're awake. How's your head?"
He wanted to respond but the duct tape across his mouth kept him silent except for his moans of anger and questioning. She saw the flames in his eyes and she was glad she'd taken extra care with the duct tape. She could only imagine what he'd do to her if he could break free.
"You really should have had the tea. I mean, cause now things are just going to be hard."
Morgan increased his struggle against the bindings and the tape on his mouth.
"Here, let me help you."
Mabel helped Morgan to a sitting position and then suddenly snatched the tape from his mouth.
"Ahhh! What the hell!"
"Now, now, Agent…"
"What's happening? Why are you doing this, Mabel?"
"Call it family business."
"What are you talking about?"
"You Agent Morgan. You're my family business I told you about."
"I don't get it."
"You took my family and now I'm going to take yours."
"I don't understand…"
"Antoine and Andrew Kirkwood."
"What about them?"
"The little boys in the pictures upstairs?"
"Yeah, your sons."
"You killed them!"
"Mabel, let me go! You need help, let me help you!"
"You killed my boys! My family is gone because of you!"
"Mabel, Antoine and Andrew killed 24 women! They were psychopaths!"
"They were my sons! All I had! Now I'm all alone!"
"Mabel please don't do this. Let me go."
"I'm sorry, I can't do that. You took my family now I'm going to take yours. Then after I kill them I'm going to kill you."
"Mabel don't…"
"You seem to be quite fond of Ms. Garcia…Penelope is it? And then there's the young Dr. Reid. I think I'll kill them first."
"Your beef is with me not them. If you want to kill someone then kill me!"
Morgan began struggling more but to no avail. Mabel stood up and took one final look at the struggling agent on her basement floor. It was time, time to make him pay for his sins against her. She hadn't had a chance to be a mother to her boys. Maybe if she had, then things would have been different. She'd been forced to give them up and watch them grow up from afar; in someone else's arms and calling someone else mommy.
She replaced the duct tape over his mouth and headed out of the basement. His angry moans ignored she was determined to make him feel the pain that she felt; the pain of loss, regret and sorrow.
Revenge would make up for everything, her past sins, her bad choices, walking away from her precious innocent boys…everything.
