"Why is it taking so long?" Sam pushed her head further into her pillow and sighed. Dr McAllister had taken Lucy in for surgery what felt like hours ago. She just wanted her baby to be back in her arms. Upon hearing Jason snicker, she glared at him.
"Sam, it's only been 10 minutes" Jason smiled again when she let out another annoyed sigh. She always was the impatient type
"It feels like she's been in surgery forever. I just want my baby" Sam closed her eyes before the tears could spill, but Jason saw them welling up. He knew she was scared, hell he was scared too. He just found out he had a daughter, and he didn't want to lose her already.
Jason moved from his corner chair to sit on the bed next to Sam. He grabbed her hand and started rubbing circles along her wrist
"She's going to be okay, she's in good hands" Sam opened her eyes and looked directly at their joined hands. Before she could speak, there was a knock at the door and Mac Scorpio peaked his head in
"Ms McCall, may I speak with you for a moment?" Sam nodded as the police commissioner entered the room and stood at the foot of her bed.
"First, I would like to say how glad I am to see you awake and recovering. Due to the nature of the accident... well let's just say that you were extremely lucky."
Jason squeezed Sam's hand at the officer's comment. They both knew just how lucky she was. Every doctor that has been involved with the woman's care has made it abundantly clear that she should be dead. After a brief silence, the commissioner continued.
"Secondly, I would like to apologize on behalf of the entire police department for Lucky Spencer's behavior. As I am sure Jason has already told you, he will not be able to hide behind his badge on this one. The PCPD does not condone this type of behavior, and Officer Spencer is no longer employed by our department."
"Thank you" Sam nodded at the man in front of her as Jason spoke.
It was nice to know that Lucky wont be able to come after their daughter. Jason had already told her that, on the off chance that Lucky was released, there was a restraining order against him. He wasn't allowed anywhere near the hospital as long as Sam and Lucy were there. Once released, the former officer was not allowed any form of contact with the pair.
"There is one more reason for my visit" Mac glanced from Sam to Jason, and back again. She already knew what he was here for. They needed her statement about the accident and they needed to know if she was going to press charges against Elizabeth
"Commissioner, I know why you are here and I understand your need for certain information. However, my 2 month old is currently undergoing major surgery and I really haven't been focused on anything but her since I woke up less than 24 hours ago. If you wouldn't mind, I would appreciate a little bit of time in order to focus on my daughter as well as my own recovery before answering any questions regarding the accident"
Mac gave Sam a reassuring smile and nodded at the couple before him. He then reached into his pocket and handed his business card to Jason
"Of course, Ms McCall. As soon as you are ready, please give my office a call." With that, Mac excused himself as Patrick and Robin entered.
"How's our patient doing today?" Patrick flashed a light in Sam's eyes a few times while Robin assessed her leg, hip and shoulder.
"Tired, which shouldn't be possible since I slept for the last month" Jason smiled at Sam's annoyance.
"Your body is still healing, so that is totally normal. I want to do an X-ray of your leg to see how it's healing." Robin looked at Sam, who nodded in agreement
"As long as I like the looks of it, I'll let Jason spring you out of here in a day or two" At Patrick's words, Sam let out a sigh of relief
"Thank God!" Sam hated hospitals almost as much as Jason
"I'm hurt" Patrick held his hand against his heart and faked a pained expression on his face, which had Sam smiling
"Sorry Pat, nothing against you, just hate hospitals" The doctor gave a coy smirk
"You can put anything against me, anytime love" this earned him a swat from Robin, a death glare from Jason, and a genuine laugh from Sam. Holding his harm, he sighed in defeat
"Alright, now how bout that X-ray?" Sam looked to Jason, who got off the bed but didn't release her hand
"Don't worry, I'll wait right here for word about Lucy. I'm not going anywhere" Sam smiled at Jason and then told the doctors she was ready. Jason effortlessly scooped her into his arms and gently placed her into the wheel chair. Once they left the room, he returned to his chair and closed his eyes.
Feeling Sam in his arms again brought back memories. And if he was honest, he never wanted to let her go. The smile she gave him melted his heart. Her laugh gave him butterflies. Holding her put him at peace. He would do anything for her, and it kind of scared him. But he didn't care. He finally had her back and he wasn't going to let anyone take her from him ever again.
As Robin wheeled her through the halls, Sam was quiet. All she could think about was being in his strong arms again. She knew he was only doing all of this because of their daughter. She told him that Jake deserved both of his parents, and that he should make it work with Elizabeth for the sake of the child.
Now that it came out that Jake was Lucky's, Jason must be taking her advice when it came to Lucy instead. He was only staying close to her so that he could be close to his daughter. Unlike the nurse, though, Sam would never use her child to get a man's attention. Nor would she ever keep her child from its father. Knowing that his feelings only went as far as their daughter was going to make it hard being around him so much, but she would do it to make sure Lucy got the life that she deserved.
"Alright, are you ready?" Robin's voice interrupted Sam's thoughts. The two doctors were standing in front of her, waiting to help her out of the wheel chair.
"Yep. Let's get this show on the road" it took both Patrick and Robin to lift the small woman out of the chair and get her up on the X-ray table. She wished more than anything that Jason was with her.
He could lift her like she weighed no more than a feather. When she was in his arms, she felt like nothing could hurt her. Having the two doctors straining to lift her, made her feel the complete opposite of safe and secure, not to mention uncomfortable. Once the X-ray was done Sam got off the table herself, only using Robin for support and balance. Patrick then rolled the chair up behind her, and she took her seat. She was ready to get back to her room.
Jason had just started to doze off when he heard the sound of her voice outside the door. Not even a second later, and she was back in the room. He got up to help her back into bed, and he swore that he felt her meld into him as soon as she was in his arms. He didn't want to put her down, but he knew he had to. Once she was settled he sat beside her and grabbed her hand in his, not wanting to lose the contact.
"We'll let you know as soon as we have the results from your X-ray" Robin nudged Patrick out of the room, as he was too dense to notice what was going on. As soon as they were alone again, Sam yawned and rested her head against Jason's shoulder. Without thinking, he brought his legs up onto the bed and wrapped his arm around her. She barely shifted before placing her head on his chest. Listening to the steady beat of his heart, she yawned for a second time.
"Get some rest Sam. I'll wake you up if we get any news about Lucy." Sam nodded in agreement before her eyes drifted shut, sleep finally overcoming her. As soon as he felt her breathing even out, he placed a kiss on the top of her head.
"Sleep tight, my love"
Elizabeth was sitting on her couch, absently rubbing her growing stomach. She had just gotten off the phone with her lawyer who had informed her that there were no serious charges filed against her for the accident. Her lawyer made it very clear that it wasn't over just yet. As long as Sam was still in a coma, the police couldn't talk to her about what happened. They had, however, spoken with the other woman's brother and he had decided to leave the decision up to his sister. Until the time came that Sam woke up, her current charges of speeding and reckless driving were all she had to worry about.
She was pulled from her thoughts by the sound of her both Cameron and Jake laughing and playing in the backyard. Rising from the couch, she went to check on them as one let out an excited screech. Before she could make it a few steps, there was a knock at the door.
Turning around, she went to see who was there. Opening the door revealed a strange woman dressed in a suit. Elizabeth opened her mouth to speak, but the visitor beat her to it
"Elizabeth Webber?" The woman waited for an acknowledgement before holding out an envelope.
"You have been served" The stranger turned and left as soon as Elizabeth took the letter from her outstretched hand.
Quickly ripping open the envelope, she unfolded the piece of paper and nearly fainted. This couldn't be happening, it just couldn't. Looking back up, to address the woman who delivered the news, she saw the proof right in front of her. Slamming the door shut, she immediately called her lawyer back.
