Chapter 10: Elemental my dear Flonne

~[Netherworld: Over Lord Castle]~

Returning to the Castle in high spirits Flonne and Etna stepped through the gateway unaware of what was about to greet them."where the hell have you two been!" Laharl demanded from his way word vassals the girls hadn't expected Laharl to be awake at such an hour. "Flonne's friends wanted to meet us in the training fields they had something really imported to tell Flonne about." Laharls mood darkened further if that was even potable. "Not only did your stupid Prinnies wake me up with a false alarm about intruders I find the two of you missing and now angels were in my netherworld AGAIN!." He shouted at the pair emphasizing the word again. "Yeah, yeah prince is in a bad mood." Etna said, waving her hand dismissively at the blue haired boy. With a huff Laharl turned on his heels to leave only to stop and look back and his vassals. "So what did those two want this time?" He demanded. "Vincent and Sakura have been working hard, they only want help Laharl." Flonne scolded the young Overlord. "Yeah so!" Laharl snapped, clearly not caring about the twins attempts to help their friend. "So they figured out what happened when Flonne couldn't heal your foot." Etna said hands on her hips. "Flonne's angelic power is becoming like our Mana so now we need to get her a mentor to teach her Netherworld magic." The red haired demon explained impatiently to the being bratty overlord. "Who's we?" Laharl demanded Etna scuffed at this unsurprising by the princes selfishness. "Fine I'll help her then." Etna offered. "Come on Flonne." Etna said as she dragged the ex angel towards the Dark Assembly.

As Etna set out to help Flonne find a suitable mentor nether knew back in Celestia the truth of what lead to the need of such a tutor was about to be revealed to two young angel trainees.

~[Celestia:Seraphic Sanctuary-Sacred Altar-]~

"Welcome Angel Trainees." the Seraph greeted as Trance lead the twins into the Sanctuary. "I understand your reasons for wishing to help Flonne. The angelic leader stated "However, I cannot condone your actions" the tings gulped were they going to be dismissed as angel trainees or worse? Seeing the alarm rising in their faces Lamington reassured them. "You are both facing discipline for what you have done, however, I believe mineral labor well suffice" he says. The tension in the room lifted significantly.

"I am sure you both have many questions." Lamington correctly surmises. "Yes, master Lamington" Vincent conforms. The seraph nodes "very well" he reply's. "why did you send Flonne to the netherworld master Lamington." Sakura asks despite to know why she lost her best friend.

And so Seraph Lamington tells the twins how two years ago King Krichevoskoy unexpectedly passed away and his son and only hair lay in a poison induced sleep. Of the plotting and blood shed by ambushes demons vying for the title of Overlord.

The angelic teens were shocked. And Flonne called them her friends? Lamington spoke of the dangers the strife and turmoil in the netherworld posed to not only Celestia but the human world as well.

He explained how their two worlds weren't always at odds and of his wish to reunite them in the spirit of peace and friendship. The tins couldn't believe their ears.

"And so I dispatched Flonne to awaken Prince Laharl from his deep sleep." he tells them. "I knew it would take his strength to restore order to the chaos spreading across the netherworld." he says.

"But why Flonne?" they ask their leader. "I knew Flonne was the only one who could complete this task. Her strength and devotion to love would be needed to temper King Laharl and show him the right path, the path to kindness." Lamington stats. They were in awe. Master Lamington had complete faith in Flonne. "Perhaps you have seen for your self's Flonnes belief that even Demons are capable of kindness is true?" he asks the pair. "Yes master Lamington we have." They confirm.

"You should know I never intended thing to transpire as they did" Lamington explains"archangel

Vulcanus conspired with Earths military to attack the netherworld and wipe out the demons." he continued. "Unfortunately, in the insuring battle Flonne by no fault of her own bright harm to the angelic warriors of Celestia and that is why she was banished." Seraph Lamington said with regret in his voice.

And now they knew what had happened and why Flonne was banished as a fallen angel. Having told the story of Flonnes ordeal it was now time to deal with the situation at hand.

"I have been told you've been travelling to the netherworld to help Flonne." the seraph stats. "Yes, master Lamington. Flonne told us about a problem she had had with her angelic magic we discovered that she was losing her magic after becoming a fallen angel. We went back to the netherworld to tell Flonne what we found in one of our mother's books." the twins explained.

"Hmm, I see this is not entirely unexpected as an angel trainee Flonne possessed less energy than a fully fledged angel and so the transformation would naturally take a shorter amount of time to transmute her angelic energies into that of a demons. You say this Etna intends to help Flonne learn Netherworld elemental magic?" the Seraph asked. "Yes, master Lamington they confirmed. He gave an approving nod. "I'm sure Flonne will in time overcome the trails of mastering Netherworld magic." He stats. This was good news for the twins.

"I and glad you have been able to assist Flonne however, I must now forbid you from journeying to the netherworld again." The twins knew what this would mean. Why master Lamington they asked. "The netherworld is a far to dangerous place for angel trainees at this time many a demon would no doubt attempt to do harm to you if they discovered you. I believe in time when tensions are not so high you'll be able to return there for a short time to see Flonne again."...

~[Netherworld: The Overlords castle]~

Dragging Flonne all the way to the doors of the Dark Assembly Etna came to a stop iron front of the Blue haired girl in front of said doors. "Hey Pleinair," Etna said with small wave. "Is the dark assembly available? Flonne here needs to find a mentor to teach her elemental magic." she explained to the dark secretary.

"If you're here to become a pupil you don't necessary need to go in front of the assembly." Pleinair informed the pair. "There are listings for privet tutors you can look though Miss Etna." she tells the pair. "Great lead the way." Etna replied. "This way than Pleinair." said, gesturing for the pair to follow her. The Blue haired girl lead the pair though the door and into the dark assembly. Etna still dragging a reluctant Flonne by the arm telling the Fallen Angel this was for her own good.

Though she had visited the Dark Assembly many times with Laharl and Etna during their adventure Flonne still felt uneasy about the place. Maybe it was the powerful demons serving as senators that made her nervous. thankfully, they wouldn't need to see the Assembly, Pleinair was able to help them herself bringing them list of available the list was far more extensive than Etna would have thought listing every demons from every "class" capable of elemental magic.

Etna thought it would be best to limit the search to Mage and Rune Knights even than the last was multiple pages long.

"Hey, here's one Flonne." Etna said reading the page aloud. " Aether a galaxy Mage with the Years of experience teaching generations of Mages the craft of elemental magics. Is willing to teach none elemental class students, seeking to expand their skills and abilities proud to say she is yet to not sussed with any apprentice she has taken on. Please be before warned lady Aether is know for her strict teaching methods and well push you to all you are capable of and more only serous apprentices should apply."

"What'da think Flonne?" the red haired demon asked after finishing the placement. "Umm..." Flonne stammered unsure what to say let along think.

A woman entered the room, she was an older Galaxy Mage as the plasment said she was dressed in stranded Mage robes. "Afternoon I am Aether I have been told you're seeking a mentor to teach you in the ways. of elemental magic" The woman said. "Right Flonne here needs to learn netherworld magic and you came highly remaindered." Etna said, greeting the Mage Aether glanced in Flonnes direction "Ah yes the Fallen Angel trainee" she said with a hint of distaste.

The older Mage adjusted her oval glasses looking Flonne over as if not just scrutinizing her appearance. "Hmm, that instability could be a problem."The Mage stats matter of factually. "It's temporary." Etna informed the old Mage, "its its because Flonnes not a fully fledged fallen angel yet." The red haired demon explains. "I see, well it's not so bad she won't be able to learn." Aether Informs the pair

"First things first lets see if your worth teaching." the Galaxy summoned a candle with strange "mystic" marking carved into it she placed the candle on the table in front of Flonne. "Now shall we see if you can light this candle by magic." she says to her prospective pupil.

Flonne looked at the candle unsure what to do. Etna was equity confused how did she exact Flonne to light a candle with magic if she's never uses fire type magic before. "But miss Aether" Flonne began. "yes, yes you've never used this kind of magic before." the older woman said, anticipating the question no doubt hear it a hundred times before. "Simply be still and heed my instruction I shall guide you." she advised the fallen angel. Etna didn't care for the woman's tone, but reminded silent.

"Sit up straight." the Mage said instructed. Flonne did so feeling as if she was a school child being soldered by her teacher.

"Now focus on the candle and clear your mind." Aether said now standing directly behind Flonne. Etna was sure she heard the woman say 'shouldn't be difficult' under her breath, but couldn't be sure. "Now relax your entire body breath in and slowly out" Aether instructed "focus on the candles wick and gather the energy into your body." Flonne could feel her body growing warm as the magical energies within her built up. "Good now focus that heat onto the wick." the fallen angel was instructed by her potable future teacher the candle remained unlit Flonne began to strain from the effect "you must relax." the woman said sternly, "Tension hinders the flow you are but the passive conductor!" Flonne was nervous she did the best she could to relax her muscles. "Better now reach out with your finger focus your power to the tip." the power within her surge in response "good." the Mage said "now reach out with your mind touch the wick with your power."

The tip of the wick began to glow with a small burning ember it's working Flonne thought in her excitement she lost focus on the candle the wick went out with a small poof of smoke a disproving 'hmm' from her potential teacher reached the ex angel's ear. "Well, you'll need to learn discipline." she noted. "However, for a first attempt it was better than most." The old Mage said. "So you'll teach Flonne then?" Etna asked. "Agreed" Aether said

And so Flonne with some help from Etna had found a demon to teach her elemental magic

Might I sagest while we're at it I also teach her "support" magic as while my master insisted I took instructions from a powerful cleric who owed him a favor you can use healing spells too the red haired demon asked yes I have masted clerical magic as while the Mage informed the pair.

"Well Flonne looks like you've got a lot to lean huh?" Etna stated glad she was able to help out her friend. "I'll do my best Etna!" Flonne said excitedly.

"Now then, shall we build on your success and try again?" Flonnes new mentor 'Suggested.' "But it want out Flonne." said confused "Yes,yes but now you have confidence sop it'll be easier next time" Aether explained.

Unfortunately the next attempt was a complete disaster Flonne used a little to much 'enthusiasm' causing a misfire the small explosion obliterated the candle leaving a scorch mark on the table. "I think that was a little too much oomph Flonne." Etna said matter of factually.

The old Mage summed a new candle "perhaps with a little less 'feeling' this time?" she said, placing the new candle in front not her pupil. The lesson was interrupted by a commotion in the corridor.

"Lady Etna Lady Etna!" called a Prinny moving as fast as his peg legs would let it. "What is it now?" the demon girl said with an exasperated sigh. "A urgent message just arrived, though the dimensional gateway from Celestia the over dood is really angry after he read it Dood!"

"From Celestia!?" Etna and Flonne said in unison. "Think its from your friends Flonne?" the demon girl asked. "It must be unless its from master Lamington" Flonne said just as confused as Etna. "Why would he be sending you something?" Etna asked. Without answering Flonne was up from her chair and heading to the Castles 'Shop' area.

Seeing Laharl Flonne made a b line to the blue haired demon. "Laharl its not nice to read other peoples mail!" she scolded the young Overlord. "Well then they shouldn't be using my castle's gateway as their own personal post office!" Laharl fumed tossing the message to the Flonne before walking away. "You tell them next time I find one I'll burn it." he threatened.

"What's it say?" Etna asked, looking over the ex angel's shoulder. She was curious to why the angelic pair used the dimensional passage this time.

Flonne read the message her expressing turning to one of shock. "Something wrong Flonne?" Etna asked. "Yes Vincent and Sakura got caught by the celestial host" Flonne told the red haired demon. "Well, that sucks" Etna remarked "They in trouble?" the red haired girl asked with a mix of curiosity and concern. "No, they say master trance toke them to speak with master Lamington and he explained what happened when we traveled to Celestia and what master vulcanus did." Flonne said summarizing the letters contents.

Flonne's face fell as she continued to read her friends message. "What's with the long face? You said they weren't gonna be punished." Etna asked, noticing the saddened expression on the ex angel's face.

"Master Lamington has forbidden them from traveling to the netherworld" again Flonne explained ."oh." Etna said.

To be Continued!

Author Notes

Yup a shameless self plug of one of my future fan fictions for an Etna intro this chapter lolz.

And thus ends chapter ten! I wish I could have thought of a better end to this chapter, but I kinda just got stuck and couldn't think of a better way to wrap it up. This chapter ended up longer than I thought it would, I didn't think it would be more than 3 pages long.

I'd like to thank Robert Asprin's MYTH series for serving as the template of Flonnes first candle lighting excise I was soo stuck on what to do with Flonnes first lesson until I thought of the book. So credit goes to Robert Asprin Another Fine MYTH.

Ahem Chapter 11 Probably won't be posted until the last week of April possibly the last day of the month same as this and the precise chapter before it. With the long overdue arrival of spring, I'll soon be helping the family ALOT over the coming months. Somehow I'll try to keep my writing going, hoping to avoid burning the candle at both ends but yeah... Between helping the family and my own obligations. Time to sit and write maybe few and far between. (Hoping it's not, I'd rather not break my momentum) So well see how things go in April and go from there. If I can't meet the April or any other month's deadline, I'll of course let you all know in an "Update" notice posted as a chapter.
