"Seriously?"

The "Mummy Resistance Crew", as Gilbert christened them, managed to get away from the city, Feliciano's insane driving getting them closer to Hamunaptra faster than if they stopped and looked for over ways of transportation.

They were supposed to meet up with a friend of Ludwig's and Feliciano's at a private runway. It was scheduled for construction but they were able to get special permission to use it. Their friend, a small Japanese man who introduced himself as Kiku Honda had a way for them to get to Hamunaptra quickly.

The reason for Lovina's ire was a certain American drooling over the Cessna 206 Kiku had parked on the runway.

With a huff Lovina climbed up into the lightweight plane and crawled onto one of the four seat in the back. The plane Kiku got for them was made for large families, and would fit Alfred, Antonio, Gilbert and her easily. At least she hoped so as she huddled down underneath the tarp covering the back two seats. Antonio had the nerve to order her to stay back and Goddammit he wasn't in charge of her!

Ludwig was given the job of organizing the rest of the Medjai and getting them to Hamunaptra as soon as possible. Feliciano was staying with the German man, a fact Lovina was hard pressed NOT to notice. She looked out the window with a frown as he clung tightly to Ludwig's back.

She wasn't stupid, she could tell that there was something happening between the two and the overprotective elder sibling in her reared its head. She had heard of Ludwig through the emails she sent her brother, but assumed he was just a friend. Lovina scoffed inwardly. She should have known better. Thinking back, Feliciano was acting like he did when they were younger and he had a crush on one of the local boys. The way he chattered and clung to Ludwig was reminiscent of that time.

"OKAY DUDES, LET'S GO!" Alfred's shout jerked Lovina from her thoughts as the American hopped into the pilot's seat. She rolled her eyes as Antonio and Gilbert clambered in and Alfred started the plane.

She took on last look back out the window and smiled slightly as her brother waved cheerily at the plane. For a moment his eyes caught hers and he gave her a quick wink as a knowing smile broke through his cheery mask before disappearing just as quickly.

'That little brat.' Lovina thought as she pulled back and leaned back against the seat carefully to avoid letting any of the men know she stowed away. One last, frightening thought ran through her head as Alfred guided the plane down the runway.

'Does he even know how to get to Hama whatever?!'

"What on earth is that?"

Arthur looked over at the Hungarian with a sullen scowl. He had meant to make the lumps of coal his cooking usually reduced good ingredients to but instead he came out with delicious scones piled whimsically on top of each other. He couldn't find any meat (apparently the household was vegetarian) and made do with a Asian stir fry he saw on the television once.

It looked absolutely scrumptious.

Arthur knew something was wrong when instead of a bubbling, burned, mess a delicious smell came from the stove top. Despite all his attempts at fixing the food it still came out looking wonderful.

Arthur looked on balefully as the Mummy ate his first meal in over a millennium.

'I hope you choke on your carrots.' he thought viciously as he speared a vegetable from his own plate.

After the disappointing dinner Arthur was ordered into the kitchen to clean up.

Arthur grumbled but gathered the dishes. He had a feeling the Imhotep liked watching him do menial work.

Arthur heard a noise and looked behind him to see Imhotep standing to the right of him. Arthur tensed, hand gripping the knife he was washing.

He could kill him. He could kill him right now and be DONE with the entire situation. The Mummy was so close, if he could just move fast enough...

Arthur relaxed his grip on the knife, letting it fall back into the dirty water. He couldn't do it. He couldn't kill that rotting bag of flesh even though he desperately wanted to. He glared defiantly at the man, no, the MONSTER in front of him as he waited for It to say something.

Imhotep bared his teeth in a disturbing grin. "We leave at dawn, when my power returns." He stopped to savor the paling of Arthur's face before turning away sharply, presumably to rest.

Arthur swallowed hard. He had to get out of here, who knows if the others will be able to save him or not? Arthur left the water running and peaked around the corner. No one was there. Taking his chance he ran for the door. He swung it open, hope rising in his chest, only to fall once more.

Imhotep was waiting for him with a sinister smile.

"You humans are too predictable."

Arthur shouted and fell back, he tried to shut the door but the Mummy was quicker, grabbing his hand and wrenching it behind is back. Arthur choked back spit as Imhotep pushed the arm further up and hissed into his ear.

"Try to escape again and I will cut off your feet, one toe at a time."

He pushed the blond to the ground harshly, pushing him back down with a hard with his foot.

Arthur grunted in pain as the foot dug into his lower back before lifting. He flipped over to see Imhotep walking away from him and pushed himself up.

'Running seems to be out of the picture then.' Arthur thought, wincing as he rubbed the tender flesh. He watched as the Mummy sat in the living room and entertained himself with one of the shows on the television Beni set up for him. Arthur noticed with trepidation that he did not seem to have much trouble understanding them. He felt his heart throb in his ears when he realized that the entire conversation he had with the creature was in English.

With dawning horror Arthur realized that the Mummy wasn't wasting its time.

It was learning.

Arthur barely got any sleep that night before he was ordered out of the house. He thought about escaping but he was watched by an annoying rat by the name of Beni.

He tensed beside Beni, the Hungarian was tossing a golden ring and catching it, enchanted by his new wealth.

The ring suddenly stopped mid-air before zooming away. It hit Imhotep's hand with a small smack as he caught the trinket.

A light shined behind his dark eyes as he bared his teeth in a ferocious grin.

Any hope Arthur had died in his chest as he felt the heavy magic gather again, ensnaring him and Beni within its grasp. Sand swirled around them, forcing the two men to shield their face as it rose in a whirlwind around Imhotep. The whirlwind reached out to the other two and dragged them inside and they were gone, Beni's red beret was the only sign they were there as it lay innocuously on the ground.

Arthur tried to breathe, panicking as it became harder for him to take in air. A dull roaring in his ear made his headache worse as he tried to reach out but was met with air.

He didn't know how long he stayed like that, stuck in cage that just. Kept. Spinning.

He was eternally grateful when the pressure suddenly stopped, throwing him onto soft, warm sand. He pushed himself up with a groan, shielding his face from the afternoon sun. A quick look around confirmed his suspicions.

They were back at Hamunaptra.

"Lovina you can come out now."

Lovina swatted the tarp away from her face and tried to wiggle out from under it as gracefully as she could. She knew she failed as her face grew hotter at the look Antonio gave her.

"What do you think you are doing here?"
Lovina avoided his stern gaze, picking at her hair with a huff.

"Aww, leave her alone, she just wants to help!" Gilbert cajoled the Spainard making him switch his glare from Lovina to him.

"Gilbert." His name was growled out. "If you knew she was here why didn't you tell me?"

"Because you'd act like a prick?" Lovina chimed in with a heated glare to Antonio. Before he could open his mouth Lovina interrupted him.

"Don't give me crap about danger. I already know, remember?" Lovina yanked down one of the shoulders of her shirt revealing a thin faded scar running from the top of her left shoulder across the top of her breast. Antonio flinched away and turned to glare out the window. Gilbert looked at him curiously, and eve Alfred chanced a glance back to see what was going on. Lovina pulled up her shirt as she finished, "Arthur is my friend and you can't stop me from helping him."

The rest of the ride was spent in silence.

"Hey! Look there!" Alfred called out. He had been quiet the entire ride, a complete opposite of his hyper antics before they boarded the plane. Lovina looked outside curiously, squinting through the bright sunlight but she could not see anything.

"There, a little to the side." Antonio's breath puffed against her ear. Lovina looked up at him in surprise, when did he move? Antonio smiled down at her as he pointed out the city Lovina only heard about from Arthur. "That's Hamunaptra."

"That's the city you left us for." Lovina murmured, her finger tangling tightly in her hair, looking at him sideways.

"Lovina…"

"Don't." Lovina avoided his eyes. Antonio stroked her hair once before settling down beside her, just as Alfred told them to get their seatbelts on so he could land the plane.

They got out of the plane after it landed, quickly following Alfred who decided to take the lead.

"Doesn't look like they made it yet!" Alfred peered around them, not seeing Imhotep or Arthur anywhere. 'Or they are already in the ruins.'

"No, they're already here."

Alfred followed Antonio's eyes to the wide open entrance to the tunnels and cursed, running a hand through already mussed hair.

"Now what?" Lovina asked, wincing slightly at how abrasive her words sounded. Annoyingly enough, Antonio patted her head with a stupid smile. She half expected him to start rambling about cute tomatoes like he did when she was younger. She crossed her arms and glared at him, though she didn't know what she wanted to accomplish as he continued to pet her hair.

"We should find that other book, right?" Gilbert butted in, propping an elbow on Antonio's shoulder, turning him away from Lovina.

"Yes, the Book of the Living." Antonio nodded. "Arthur said it was east; Gilbert, you and I will search for the book while Alfred can look for the ritual chamber-that's where he tried to summon back his lover, he there's a chance he might use it again." Antonio added and Alfred nodded in comprehension.

He moved past Antonio, leaving the group trailing behind him to the entrance the American's team discovered before he stopped suddenly turning to Antonio.

Rubbing a hand behind his head, Alfred let out a strained laugh. "So, uh, which way do I go?"

Antonio sighed and moved into the tunnels. A small click and light flooded the area.

"You need to go to the base of Anubis, and head north. Follow the path then take a left at the third fork." Antonio tossed the American a spare flashlight he fished from the supplies Kiku thoughtfully provided them.

Alfred nodded in thanks and gave a quick salute as he hurried down the tunnels.

Hang in there, Arthur. I'm coming to get you!
