Harry's Pov

I gulped before I stepped into the forest. The coolness making me shiver. As I entered and the dark canopy closed over me it made me gulp and I was beyond glad I knew the lumos spell. Though a flash light would work, the magic of Hogwarts would make it go hay wire, meaning that it would more than likely blow up the battery so it was better that I didn't try it at Hogwarts.

My heart beat against my rib cage, making me clench with the slight fear that had gripped me as soon as I entered. I had no idea as of yet why I was so scared, but the uneasiness that had settled at the bottom of my stomach told me that in less time than I had previously thought I would know why. These spiders were small and I weren't scared of them so what was it? The question kept running through my mind, more questions tagging on to the end of it, but I had no answers, yet I knew that eventually I would find out, so I carried on with my trek through the forest.

I felt a prickle on the back of my neck as if someone was watching me the deeper I travelled, but I ignored it. I needed to do this for Hagrid. Hagrid would never get out of Azkaban prison if I didn't do this and I knew about dementors and they sounded awful. Hagrid was innocent he didn't deserve to be around those beasts everyday. My defence book had taught me all about the awful creatures, and I had no wish for any of my friends to remain around them.

I walked on following the spiders closely, eyes tracked to their every movement, picking up every twitch of their thin legs in the dim light from my wand. . I looked at the moon and saw it was a crescent so there was no way werewolves could be in the forest and I tried thinking of all the good animals that I knew resided in here to reassure myself. Unicorns. The centaurs weren't too bad, and neither were the pixies. There weren't many others I could think of, but I didn't let it bother me.

Hagrid had told me of a fair few that I hadn't met. I had seen the unicorns and those beautiful animals were pure and wouldn't harm me. The centaurs weren't that bad. Firenze for example had saved me when I needed it. I knew Fairies lived in this forest and that too reassured me. The creatures ran through my head with every step that I took against the hard ground. There was no room for many more thoughts, but being distracted seemed to be good, so I didn't banish the thoughts in favour of something else.

I remember some of the tips Hagrid had given me the last time we had gone in the forest and I ran through them in my mind. These would come in useful I was sure. Hagrid knew the forest so much better than I did. He had been working in it for Merlin knows how long. These thoughts mixed with the ones of the animals, making me slightly dizzy at the whirlpool creating chaos and havoc within my head, but I shook them away. I needed to do this, for Hagrid.

Tip one: Don't leave the path.

The spiders steered off the path, skittering across the dried and crunchy leaves underfoot, and I took a deep breath before I followed them. Hagrid had told me not to, and this thought mixed with the others, even though I had believed there were no room for other thoughts. Don't leave the path. A voice in my head muttered.

'This is for Hagrid.' I replied.

' Would Hagrid want you dying for him?'

' He's worth it.'

' This is a death trap. It's not safe.'

' Leave me alone.'

I realised after that. Having a conversation with yourself is not what is considered normal within our society. I shook my head. What was with all these useless thoughts?

' Don't leave the path. Hagrid wouldn't want you to.'

But Hagrid wasn't there at that moment, and this was all for his benefit. I had to be brave. I gulped as I followed on. He had said that it was one of the main rules as the forest was huge and getting lost in it was not a good idea. I knew that if I did get lost, with my broom I would eventually find a way out, but it wasn't worth it, it would be a waste of time, and even if that did occur, I would have to find a clearing to escape from, and while I did, I could be hunted and killed by a wide variety of animals.

Tip two: Stay clear of all the animals unless they are unicorns.

I wondered whether Hagrid would count these spiders as animals but then I thought about it and I knew he would. Hagrid loved animals however these spiders were tiny but the one in the memory had been humongous. It was ironic that the animal I was searching for was the reason Hagrid was in Azkaban and had been expelled fifty years ago. I had a hatred towards spiders even though they didn't scare me.

Tip three: Stay clear of openings as they normally hold the most dangerous of animals.

This was obvious. The clearings seemed to be the best place for animals to live, and a strong and dangerous animal would fight for it, and win, so it was obvious that they would hide and live there. I followed the spiders into a giant opening. Suddenly I was rushed off my feet and picked up. I looked down and saw that whatever was holding me had an extra six legs to the ones it was holding me with and I knew then it had to be a spider. However it was a spider so big that it could carry me.

'Pretty big then.' A voice in my head said, but I shook it away.

I managed to get a quick look and saw that I was in a deep dark hollow and spiders were falling from the ceiling. A lot of the spiders were humongous sizes but there were a few of a reasonable size, even if they were bigger than average house spiders that could be found anywhere else in Britain. I gulped, as it carried me on forwards, seemingly to a set point.

" ARAGOG THERE IS A BOY!" The spider carrying me cried.

I saw the legs first. I had though they thick, long tree roots however when they started twitching I realised how wrong I had been. It hadn't been tree roots it was one leg of a ginormous spider. Its other legs twitched too. It raised his head and I saw eight massive eyes blink in unison focusing on me. However by the creamy coloured film over it I realised it was blind.

" Is it Hagrid?" He croaked.

" He's a stranger."

" Kill him I was sleeping." The spider groaned.

" I am a friend of Hagrid." I yelled.

Aragog paused. All that could be heard was the clicking of his pincers as he debated about what I had said. His blind eyes focused on exactly where I was as he had heard from where I had been shouting. Every other spider was staring at me and it made me feel terribly uncomfortable. So many eyes were focussed on me that it made the hairs on the back of my neck prickle.

" Hagrid has never sent another man to our Hollow before." Aragog said slowly.

I was terrified but I tried to calm myself down. I took a deep breath before speaking again. There was no way I was going to let them know how scared I was. I knew how much trouble Hagrid had gotten me into however I still wanted to help. He trusted this spider, and maybe if it was so fond of him as he was with it then it might let me go, if only for Hagrid's sake.

" Hagrids in trouble. Something is petrifying the students up at the school and they took Hagrid believing it was him." I shouted.

He froze again. When I said petrifying, a shudder ran through the spiders there. I could feel the one carrying me shudder. What had made them have such a reaction? What was so terrifying to them that flesh eating spiders were scared of it? Whatever it was it could be nothing good.

" But that was years ago. I remember it well." He said after a moment.

" Its happening again." I cried.

" Now? Many years later?"

" Yes do you know what's petrifying the students?"

" We do not speak its name."

It reminded me of an animal version of Voldemort. Most were too scared to speak their name and people shuddered at the mention of it. What was so bad that it could petrify the students? Why were they so scared of it? Nothing good could come of this creature I knew, and obviously it had already proved that to us, by endangering so many of the students.

" So you never came from the secret chamber?" I asked carefully hoping not to anger the spider which I had worked out to be an acromantula. If I angered it my life would be over sooner than I could scream Georges name in fright.

" Me! Never! I was given to Hagrid in an egg from a traveller from a far away land. I never saw any part of the castle except the cupboard in which Hagrid had raised me. He fed me scraps from the table and protected me from being killed and set me free. He even got me a wife and see how our family has grown through Hagrid's kindness."

" The girl who was killed do you knew where she was found?" I asked. I had no idea why but it seemed like it might be important information. It may help me find the entrance to the chamber. I had no idea but it seemed important and the information surely couldn't hurt.

" A girls bathroom."

" Thank you I will be going." I said trying to keep my voice steady even thought my heart was racing. I knew it would never be that would eat my flesh and it had the chance now and no one knew I was here except Hagrid who was miles away and couldn't help.

" Going? I think not. My sons and daughters don't harm Hagrid on my command however I cannot deny them fresh meat when it wonders so willingly into our hollow. Goodbye friend of Hagrids."

" Please! If I don't leave Hagrid will never be back!"

" He will eventually be set free. They will realise he is not to blame without your help. Goodbye."

The spiders closed in on me and I gasped. I needed to escape. I took the broom from my pocket and enlarged it thankful that it hadn't fallen out so I didn't have to waste time summoning it. I jumped onto the broom and zoomed into the air. I had nearly come without my broom, and I was beyond glad that I hadn't left it behind otherwise I would more than likely have been acromantula food.

Aragog's children gave a cry of madness. They followed me moving at a very fast pace and it was then that I realised how desperately I needed to get them off my trail if they carried on following me, there was a high chance of them being set free into the grounds and eating people that wandered around after hours. They could have hidden and eaten passers by in the day time as well, so I knew I needed to get them off my trail. This was not easy considering I had to made sure not to hit trees.

I flew around the forest seeing creatures beyond creatures and for some reason a car that seemed rather sentinent. I flew around the forest and gasped when my foot was grazed by a spider. I flew higher. I needed to loose the spiders. Otherwise they would come out of the forest and of that I was sure. They would feast upon other students and just the thought made me sick.

It was two hours before I had lost all of the spiders. I flew back to Hagrids and was sick in the pumpkin patch. I had never really been scared of spiders before but now I was terrified of them. I continued to be sick for a while before I walked back into Hagrids. The clock on the wall said it was eleven at night and that surprised me. It had seemed to take much longer. I had arrived at Hagrids at quarter past seven and left at quarter to eight to go into the forest. Had I only been in there three hours and fifteen minutes. Each second in their had made it feel like an hour.

I collapsed into one of Hagrid's chairs and breathed a sigh of relief. I stroked Fangs head as he slobbered on my clothes, but I didn't mind. I sat there, waiting for my racing heart to slow. At half eleven I felt a lot better so I got my broom and invisibility cloak and I flew underneath the cloak into the castle. I flew past the teachers who looked up at the sudden breeze but saw nothing. I had to wait near the portrait hole for five minutes before Snape stopped pacing near there. When he was out of ear shot I whispered the password to the sleepy fat lady who swung open to admit me not even opening her eyes. I flew in and then took the cloak off in the empty common room. I collapsed into the chair and then decided to go and shower. I took the broom and cloak into Georges dorm and slipped it under the bed where I had been keeping it and into Georges trunk. I then slipped back out.

" Harry." Fred said.

I turned around. He was looking at me strangely. Maybe it was the fact that I was pale and slightly shaky as well as covered in mud. I ran a hand through my hair slightly, before answering.

" What?"

" Where have you been?"

" Library."

" Oh." He said, looking as if he didn't believe me in the slightest.

" Yeah."

" Someone stole your diary." He said nonchalantly.

" What?!"

" Your diary was gone when we got here. Most of yours and Georges things were all over the floor." He said as if it wasn't really of that much importance.

" Did no one see who did it?"

" No."

" It must have been..."

" A gryffindor as no one else knows the password." He finished for me.

" Yeah."

" You whiff a bit."

" Thanks Fred I was about to go for a shower."

" Go on then before you stink out the dorm." He said jokingly.

" Fine then."

I left the dorm and got a towel before going into the shower and closing and locking the door behind me. I took my clothes off and stepped into the shower scrubbing myself clean. I felt filthy after what I had been through in the past couple of hours. When I was done I dried off and got into the pyjamas I had brought down with me. I changed into them and instantly felt more clean. I dried my hair best as I could and went back up to the dorms. Fred was now asleep. I slipped in beside George and he curled around me. I sighed a smile on my face as I snuggled deeper. I felt comfortable and my aching body had started to relax. I wanted to sleep however my brain wouldn't shut down. I kept running over Aragog's words in my mind. It had triggered something and I needed to know what.

Clue one: Spiders flee before it.

Clue two: Something Slytherin alone would be able to control.

Clue three: Petrifies.

Clue four: Killed a girl in a bathroom.

Clue five: Seemed to kill in a similar way to petrifying.

It was then that I understood why it sounded familiar.

Myrtle haunted a girls bathroom and she had said she had died fifty years ago in that bathroom. Did that mean the entrance to the chamber was in Myrtles bathroom? It made sense. Who would have expected Salazar Slytherin would hide a secret chamber entrance in a girls bathroom.

It all fit and now all I had to work out was what the creature was. What could it be?
