Lifehouse - It is what it is

A knock on the door stirred the sleeping brunette from the large four posted bed, but not fully waking her. Numerous amounts of pillows along with a thick duvet surround her, creating a small comfortable, snugly, warm den.

Not waiting for an answer the raven haired butler proceeded to enter the room pushing a trolley filled with breakfast, tea and the newspaper. Stopping the trolley next to the nearby table he then proceeded to open the curtains and setting up the food . The suns ray's passed through the large clear window bringing warmth and light into the room.

"Good morning my lady," greeted the demon butler.

Stretching to wake up her sleeping muscles she mumbled her reply, "Good morning to you too Sebastian."

"Today we have French toast, poached eggs, cinnamon and raisin bagels with soft cheese and chamomile tea as well as a side of mix fruits," he said tying the white medical patch over her eye.

"Mmmm...sounds yummy. "

After dressing in a white sun dress and brown flats she sat down into one of chairs nearby to start indulging in the mouth watering food.

"What's the plan for today? French, German, Science, Maths, English Lit?" She inquired, eyes sparkling with the excitement of learning something new.

"No my lady, we finished studying those things long before Christmas. Haven't you noticed all you had done since then is learn to play violin and read books from the library. Today you'll be taught something different," the demon butler answered catching Bella's attention quickly.

"Different how..." Her eyes narrowed at the butler's playful smirk.

"Before we get into the details I...we have something for you. It may be a little late as a Christmas present, but considering the events that had transpired close to the date and the usual holiday postal service, we didn't receive it quickly enough," He explained and handing Bella the envelope he solemnly said, " Though it is also partly my fault for not being able to give it to you sooner, so I apologized my lady."

Bella looked at the envelop and Sebastian and back to the envelop again, wondering what 'it' is that made a demon butler feel sorry so much. Opening it and pulling out the contents, her eyes widened. Inside the envelop was certificates stating her achievements from high school and university.

"Congratulations Miss Swan, you have graduated high school with high honours and you have also graduated from the University of Cambridge with a degree in Modern and Medieval languages," Sebastian praised.

"Huh..?" Was all she could say. She wondered whether the papers were genuine. There was no way she could achieve that much in such a short time. Right?

"I can understand the high school part, but not the Modern and Medieval languages in... Cambridge?!" Bella exclaimed confused.

"Do you recall the lessons in French, Italian, Latin and German and some of its histories?"

She nodded.

"Well the test I gave you after finishing each section were all from the University itself. Call it an online course or in your case home schooling. Master figured that if you were studying them you might as well receive a certificate of some sort as an achievement in the end."

Her sight blurred from the oncoming tears, they cared. She never thought she could graduate college never mind one like Cambridge University, one of the best schools in the world and with that thought her happy mood soured because her family would never see her receiving such awards. They never had the chance, it was taken away before it was presented. Rubbing her eyes with the palm of her hands she looked down at the papers once again.

Seeing his lady's crestfallen expression Sebastian knew that she was having one of those moments where the loss of the people she loved was at the forefront of her mind. Fearing that his mistress will stay gloomy and sensing the dark aura from the young master, who is clearly getting upset because his mate is feeling down, he changed the topic before it got worse.

He pried the papers out of Bella's hand and put them back in the folder to be kept safe, "My lady, since we have been learning from textbooks all this time, the young master had suggested something more...hands on."

"Such as...,"Bella asked trailing off at the spark of mischief in the raven head's crimson eyes.

"Hand to hand combat. Now if you would change into more suitable clothes," He pointing to the jean shorts, boots and shirt on the bed, "I will be waiting for you in the backyard once you are done my lady," he informed her, pushing the trolley out of the room.

She glared at the closing door wondering what just happened and what the butler was planning. The spark in his crimson eyes told her that he was up to no good, let's not forget the fishy smile he's sporting.

Minutes later, fully dressed, she rushed off towards the back door, passing through empty hallways while tying her hair into a messy bun. One of the few things she had noticed during her tour yesterday was that there were no family portraits or any photos of their human days, landscapes or anything else for that matter and trust her when she said there was none, she had scoured the mansion search for it. She was really curious to see what he looked like when he was little, what did his parents, his friends look like. True she had heard short stories about them, but she wanted to put faces to the names of the great people who helped Ciel, though she could ask where they were or if they still existed, she just couldn't do it. She respects their privacy, if they didn't place where they could be seen there had to be a reason.

Stepping out in the open air she was meet with a pair of brown doe eyes. In front of her was a beautiful white mare.

"You have got to be kidding me, right?" She asked, approaching the horse warily.

"No. Today Isabella, is the day you will be learning how to ride a horse," came the rich baritone voice with the English accent she knew too well. Turning around she saw Ciel riding a stunning black stallion, contrasting beautifully with the white horse. He slowed to a gallop before coming to a stop where she stood.

There it was again, he said her name, not Miss Swan or my lady. Though she never liked anyone calling her by her full name before as it made her feel old, Ciel was an exception. The way he said it, with a purr, sent shivers down her spine. Each syllable pronounced so that she could feel the emotion behind it. Averting her eyes from his intense gaze, she looked at what he was wearing. She nearly tripped seeing how different he looked, more handsome, relaxed, he traded his usual black slacks and white button up shirt for jeans, a plaid shirt and converse, looking much more youthful.

"I...I had learned before," she stuttered, "but that was when I was five and... living with Reene," she muttered the last part to herself.

"Now if you are quite ready my lady," Sebastian said, pulling her closer to the horse.

"Does she have a name?" Bella asked petting the horse's snout.

"She's called Star, my lady."

"Star...It's a beautiful name for a lovely horse," Bella said as she petted the horse affectionately.

Carefully Sebastian lifted Bella onto the horse. She looked around and found no other horses apart from hers and Ciels.

"How about you Sebastian, aren't you going to teach me?"

"Horse riding? No. Master is taking it upon himself to teach you whilst I would teach you self defence, starting tomorrow."

"But..." She started, but was interrupted quickly by Sebastian who was itching to send the couple away as soon as possible.

"Now that everything is cleared out, I shall leave you both to finish some chores. Have a nice day Master, Miss Swan."

With that Sebastian bowed and left quietly, leaving the two lovebirds alone and so the lesson started with how to handle the reins, pushing the horse to a gallop and steering in the right direction.

As the hours went by little by little, Bella learned how to ride and at the same time enjoyed Ciel's company, even though she thought it was best to distance herself to him, it wasn't working out as she planned. No matter how hard she tried she could not stay away from him. She felt a pull towards him when he wasn't around. She wondered if it was a part of the contract, but something within her was telling her it was something else. His mere presence comforts her. He makes her feel safe, complete and wanted.

After Sebastian had closed the front door, he waited until the couple were out of hearing range before he walked towards the patio and called his accomplice for the day and within the next second there was a large silver haired hound in front of him, sitting wagging his tail waiting for his master's order.

"Isn't it a lovely day for a stroll?"

Woof!

"Now do you know what day is it?" He asked petting the enormous hound.

Pluto shook his head, ears flat and whining, not having a clue what day it was.

"Of course...you wouldn't know...This is why I don't like dogs," Sebastian sighed and shook his head, "If you must know, today is a day the mortals called Valentines day."

Pluto tilted his head to the side not following his master's thoughts.

"It means today is a great day to help the young master and his mate get together," He said looking at the silver furred hound in front of him.

Pluto wagged his tail, excited at the thought of helping his master and mistress get together.

When he first met her he found her scent quite calming and inviting. Spending more time with her he had learned that she has a heart of gold. She didn't hate him for what he was, a demon hound from the underworld. She looked past their outer shells and into their souls.

She is compassionate and caring. He knows that seeing her left eye covered like the young master's meant she was also bound by a contract, which means she would be gone when the contract has been fulfilled and it saddened him.

She had suffered enough. Looking into her eyes he could see pain, suffering and sadness within them, much like the young master's. So for the time she had left he made a vow that he would make sure it will be the best time she could have, furthermore he would do anything in his power to make those who caused her pain pay.

He was brought out of his thoughts by his master walking closer to him.

Sebastian whispered, "Now listen closely, I want you to..."

Looking at the beautiful brunette beside him, Ciel wondered what he had done to deserve an angel such as herself as a mate. From the moment he saw her walking out of the house in shorts and a t-shirt his imagination ran wild, creating various scenarios ending with very, very...

Snap out of Ciel! Get your head out of the gutter!

But what can he say, he's a man and Bella is a beautiful woman. Who in their right mind wouldn't think of that way if the woman he loves shows some skin.

Oh right...the disco ball vampire named Eddie.

Sometimes he wondered if Edward was batting for the other team, nevertheless he should thank him when he sees him, because of his cowardice and foolishness Ciel found Bella. His Bella.

My Bella...

He was suddenly brought out of his thoughts by Bella's panicked scream. Snapping his gaze towards his mate, he was just in time to catch her as she fell. Extending his senses he could faintly hear Pluto's retreating form.

"Are you ok?" He asked, checking Bella for any cuts, bruises, sprain or any other injuries.

Bella looked up to see worried blue eye.

Smiling at him to ease his worries, she replied, "I am fine. Pluto just suddenly dashed in front of Star and spooked her, but I think I would be walking back home because Star just ran towards the house."

Pulling her up to stand he held her close in fear of any more dangers that may pop up at any moment and at the same time enjoying her warm body close to him. Her fruity floral scent was the only thing keeping him grounded and not out there hunting the mutt who almost injured his mate.

That mutt...

Blood and heat pooled in her cheeks at their close proximity. Inhaling the soothing scent of leather, mixed spice and a hint of something she couldn't place she sighed in contentment leaning into Ciel's chest unaware of her actions.

So much for trying to stay away... She chastised herself after realising what she was doing.

Clearing her throat she stepped back already missing being encased in his safe, warm embrace.

"Shall we? I think there is a stream nearby," he asked offering his out stretched hand.

Ciel couldn't help but frown when she shook her head and denied his request politely. He didn't want to push her so instead he took the reins of his horse and directed her in the direction of the small stream.

Side by side they walked in silence. During their walk he would sneak glances at Bella who seemed to be deep in thought. He debated whether to ask her what was troubling her.

He was just about to open his mouth and speak, but was stopped when Bella smiled and dashed ahead.

"Ciel look how clear the water is!" She shouted in delight, "Oh look there are little fishes too!"

Passing through the last set of trees he was once again enchanted by Bella's beauty. There she was, sitting on a large rock with her feet dipped into the clear waters below, her shoes were discarded and carefully placed on a nearby tree trunk. Her hair was tied in a messy bun letting some wisps frame her face. A small yet soft ray of light passed through the canopy of trees illumining the spot she currently sat in, creating a glow over her figure. If it was his first time seeing her he would have thought there was an angel right in front of him.

She looked back at him with a smile that outshined the sun. Her doe eyes, that were once dull and void of emotion now shone like the finest and rarest jewel, framed by long thick lashes. Emotions of happiness, contentment, calm, wonder and delight danced through her chocolate eyes. He would do anything for her, just to see her smile and laugh.

He tied his horse to a nearby tree, discarding his shoes and socks and sitting beside her.

They sat in comfortable silence, occasionally talking about their happier childhood memories, while they enjoyed nature's melody of chirping birds, the swaying of leaves in the soft breeze and animal calls from the forest floor and the steady beating of their hearts.

Before they knew it the sky was painted with hues of oranges, yellows, light pinks and blues as the sun started to set.

"I think it's time we head back," Ciel said sitting up. As much as he wanted to spend more time with her it was getting late and chilly.

Looking up into the darkening sky she answered, "You're right, thank you for today."

Ciel stood up and held out his hand to help her up and she grasped it thankfully, pulling herself to a stand, slightly wobbled from numbed legs.

He caught her once again and looking down she avoided his gaze, but he wasn't having any of it. Using his thumb and index finger he tilted her head so she was looking at him.

Gazing into his blue eye she saw desire, adoration, devotion and...love?

Before she could register what was happening his soft, warm lips were on hers.

He's kissing me!

His kiss was soft and gentle, filled with all the emotions he was afraid to voice.

Everything she felt for him before intensified as soon as his lips touch hers, it was like a fire has been ignited within her. Seconds had passed before she surrendered to her feelings. Everything faded into the background and it was just him and her, nothing else. She threaded her slim fingers through his dark locks while he encased her in his toned arms, bringing her closer.

Deep down she knew it was wrong, but it felt so right. She had promised herself that she would distance herself from Ciel before her feelings, or his, became more than business. She didn't want to have history repeating itself all over again, but no matter how hard she fought her heart ached at the mere thought of distancing herself from Ciel. There was always the feeling of incompleteness whenever he was away.

Minutes later they broke apart gasping for air.

He brought up his hand and caressed her flushed cheeks, "Isabella, I..."

"I'm sorry," Bella interrupted quickly. Those two words were filled with so much pain, regret and sadness.

No...I can't….not Ciel...

She suddenly pushed Ciel back and turned towards the forest and a high pitch whistle came from her followed by a howl from a distance.

Sooner than he thought Pluto came running out of the forest, seeing his mistress' distress he quickly crouched down to her level.

Bella hopped on his back, grabbing a little of his fur for leverage and murmured for him to run. Ciel was left confused, stunned and alone by the stream.
