Family
He had known it would be hard to wrap his head around it. That after so long, he finally had what he had been longing for for such a long time, even though it was unbelievably domestic.
He was a father again. A real, proper, human father. A husband with a wife and now a child. He was doing what he always thought was impossible. He was living the one adventure he never dared believing he could ever have and, truthfully, he was loving every minute of it.
He looked at the little girl who was fast asleep in his arms. Her eyes were closed, hiding away the big hazel eyes she had inherited from her mother. Oh, he knew he was going to spoil her rotten, just as he had always spoiled Rose (It was pathetic how he, even with Donna Noble's stubbornness, gave into her).
"Hello," he whispered, careful not to wake her up. "I'm your daddy. I helped make you, but that's a story for when you're much, much older. Maybe your mum will tell you, while I'm busy scaring away your boyfriends... Actually, let's never mention boyfriends again. Maybe when you're forty, or fifty, you can start dating." He smiled. " You know, you're going to be an amazing and brilliant and beautiful and... well, I could keep going, but frankly it would take all night and you'll wake up and be cranky, because I won't stop talking. Nevertheless, I know you'll be just as incredible as your mum and I'll tell you all about our adventures through time and space, where I, the responsible, intelligent, mature and dashingly handsome Time Lord, had to save the incredibly jeopardy friendly companion, who kept wandering off and would always get into trouble. You'll be amazed at how often that happened."
"But sometimes the completely irresponsible and childish Time Lord would get into trouble, leaving it to the beautiful, smart and fantastic companion to save him," Rose's voice came from the doorway. "If you're done feeding our daughter lies, you should go to bed."
The Doctor chuckled and placed their daughter in her crib, stroking her little cheek with his finger, still marvelling at this beautiful child he and Rose had created.
He turned around to leave the room, smiling at Rose and pulled her into a tight hug. "I love you," he said, kissing her gently.
"Love you too, Doctor, but please, get some sleep before you get your sonic screwdriver and scare the living daylights out of all the boys in the neighbourhood.
He grinned and kissed her again, before turning towards their daughter. "Goodnight," he whispered, before turning out the lights, ready to face the rest of his life.
