I AM SO SORRY FOR NOT UPDATING IN SO LONG! My computer crashed so I've had to use a relative's (and activate Microsoft Office in my name so I could use it).
Anyways on to the eleventh chapter!

Chapter 11: Lights Out
The chamber was the size of football stadium, the walls were solid black stone with prison cells spread throughout them and lightning arching between one area to another. Spectral phantoms flew out of the cell doors signifying a massive prison break, probably all over the world. The floor was glass with countless revolving gears beneath it spinning at high-speed.
"Do you think all this is going to come back to bite us in the ass?" Dante asked motioning towards all the escaping prisoners.
Vergil paid none of it any mind. "Probably but I did my research, most of those demons will be going after each other or whichever demon locked them up in the first place." At this he grinned slightly. "It'll be a little hectic but at most we've spread some good chaos around."
Somehow the idea of imprisoned demons going after the ones who canned them seemed to amuse Dante, maybe because he's been in and out of so many jails, prisons, and facilities when he was younger, maybe it was karma. In the back of his mind he hoped Phineas had been able to escape, he was a little crazy but Dante liked him.
The door was about fifteen-feet wide and twelve feet high, covered to the brim in gears and locks. Dante stepped toward the gates readying the Eryx but Vergil stopped him.
"Dante, look at the gates then look at the walls." Vergil calmly said.
Taking his advice Dante looked at the gate again noticing streams of lightning connecting to the gears that glowed a feint blue color then to the rest of the wall. His noise picked up the feint smell of o-zone he hadn't noticed covering the gate.
'Punch the wall, instantly fried Nephilim.' He mentally cursed taking a step back. "Okay so you got any ideas?"
Vergil got down to one knee to examine the gears spinning beneath the glass surface. He reasoned the gears must have been connected to the doors as he noticed both all were spinning in conjunction with each other. "How good's your telekinesis?"
"Why?"
Pointing to the gears Vergil explained himself, "If you can telekinetically control the gears then you can make them move in reverse order and open the gate." He expected to see doubt in his brother's eyes but there was none.
Even though he'd only just discovered it recently Dante had begun to get a firm hold on using his telekinesis. All it was just picturing what he wanted to move then using his mind to do so. The gears were a bit of a challenge, whenever he tried to get a mental lock on them he felt them spin faster. Eventually he was able to make the gears stop and throw them in reverse.
"Keep going just like your cracking a safe." Vergil chimed in.
CLICK! CLICK! CLICK! CLICK!
"Not bad brother." Vergil smirked watching the gates open outwards towards a torch-lit stairwell.
An explosion caught their attention turning them to the left where a jet of flames erupted from one of the cells.
"Looks like someone's going out for some payback." Dante mused heading towards the stairs.
"After this day everyone's going to be going after someone." Vergil cryptically stated unnerving Dante somewhat.
The stairwell was dimly lit by torches that burned a mixture of green and blue bathing the boys in sea-colored light.
"So do you have any idea what to do after we get out of here?" Vergil calmly asked taking the lead. While he'd agreed to try things Dante's way that didn't mean he was going to start agreeing with everything he said or did.
"Well I was sort of thinking…opening up a business, a devil hunting business." He said unsure of how his brother would react. When he turned to him he could tell he had caught his brother's attention. "We turn it into a professional business that specializes in hunting demons, odd jobs, and detective work when it comes to the supernatural."
For some reason he was half-expecting his twin to laugh at his idea but it never came, Vergil only gave an impressed look. "That's actually not a bad idea. It's a good way to monitor demon activity, make money, and keep us from getting bored. And do you know the details of any of this?"
"Uh, I was planning on leaving that to you since you're the smart one." Dante lightly chuckled.
"…Fair enough. We'll work out all the specifics after we get out of here and regroup with the others." Vergil turned to continue forward with his brother's ideas being examined and developed in his head.
Inside Dante was glade his brother hadn't laughed or mocked his ideas, more so that he'd agreed. "I already got a name sorted out, its-" he stopped when his brother held out his hand for silence. He immediately went on guard.
A series of tremors spread through the stairwell making some dust fall off the walls and ceilings. Vergil cursed the situation realizing if they were attacked they wouldn't have any room to maneuver. Reaching out he sensed the manitcore had returned along with several other demons banging on the outside, looking for them. He searched for any hidden passages there might have been.
"Anything?" Dante asked keeping up with his brother's pace. He didn't like fighting in such an enclosed space but if he had to he would.
Vergil noticed a series of black patches right next him, shifting and turning like bubbles. The demons were getting closer leaving him no choice but to smash the wall down. He placed his hand against the wall and it shattered revealing a murky black portal. Dante didn't put up any argument about jumping through it.
On the other end they stepped into an office with a dirt-covered tiled floor. The entire office was in band condition and beyond that the rest of the building looked like it had been caught between a firestorm and a tornado. To both boys something about it seemed familiar. After walking a few floors up they found a broken window with a steel beam hanging out, Dante decided to use it to see if he could identify the structure.
From an early age he' had an excellent sense of balance that only grew when he was forced to start fighting for his life. Walking on the beam he was able to get a good look of the hellish landscape of the realm they'd fallen into.
"Those are all the same buildings that…oh shit." Dante whispered looking up and down.
"What is it? Where are we?" Vergil called as he walked back towards him. The expression on his face was a cross between anger and amusement.
"Silver Sacks Tower, from my guess it's falling into that red abyss along with everything else that was around it on earth."
'Why does the universe love irony so much?' Vergil questioned mentally.
RUMBLE! RUMBLE! RUMBLE!
"You said it looked like this place was falling into the abyss right? Well let's get to the top and see if we can find some way to get off it."
Walking up the crumbling structure Dante noticed how almost every floor had some form of Mundus in art form; sculptures, paintings, busts, and even holographic displays. "He really loved himself more than anything didn't he?" Dante mused.
"You have no idea Dante." Vergil answered with narrowed eyes. "In the time of Roman Mundus was worshiped as Pluto…"
"God of the underworld." Dante finished realizing how fitting it was.
"And gold and all the treasures beneath the earth but that wasn't enough." There was something in Vergil's voice that caught Dante's attention, not anger, just simple loathing.
"Hey," he said stopping his brother. "Being honest, remember?"
Vergil gave a heavy sigh at what he was about to say. "I never met Mundus personally but I knew more about him than any other life form expect for angels or himself. The reason why I was so eager to get your help Dante is because we were on a clock."
"What do you mean on a clock?" Dante asked confused.
"Angel kind hasn't been able to get much ground since Mundus took control of the human world. He ruled both Limbo and Earth with an iron fist. Now think about him, his biggest trait and ask yourself if that would be enough."
Dante thought the biggest personality trait he knew about Mundus was undoubtable his ego. 'He had everyone call him God…he had a God complex…' his eyes widened as the realization dawned on him. "Vergil…was he going to storm Heaven…and…kill God?" the idea sounded so ludicrous, even to him who'd seen all kinds of paranormal people and events.
The look in Vergil's eyes gave him all the answers he needed. "There's a reason why heresy's sin and why cults are hated so much. The shape of this place is shaped liked wings for a reason, in certain cultures wings represent transcendence."
RUMBLE! RUMBLE!
A beam of black light cut across the floor slicing the floor in two causing it to fall off into the abyss. Dreamrunners jumped out of the shadows raising their swords at the twins. Vergil swept his arm in a wide arc blowing all of them back. Dante fired Ebony and Ivory at all them, blowing pieces of theirs bodies off while Vergil rushed forward using a series of punches and his sheathed Yamato.
Dante blew the head off of one Dreamrunner then saw another trying to topple a steel beam on top of him. He threw the Aquila and watched as it cut through both the demon, the beam, and everything else he aimed the twin shurikens at.
Five Dreamrunners came at Vergil, all of them jumped back the moment Vergil's hand went to his sword. They disappeared into their portals but Vergil was ready.
"You're not getting away!" he shot a phantom sword at each portal, pulling the mask wearing demons back within his reach.
SWOSH!
In one quick slash all of them fell to the ground in pieces. The Greater Stygians fared no better as Vergil twirled his katana back and forth cutting them to ribbons. He stabbed Yamato into the ground and roared. A dark blue line drew itself cutting the floor in half. Vergil removed his sword then stomped on side over the line causing it to crumble and collapse sending all the demons on it helpless to their deaths.
RUMBLE!
The entire building began to shake more violently this time and tip over before fully changing position. The sound of lightning, tearing metal, and churning clouds started to rise from the bottom of Silver Sacks Tower and continue upward meaning only one thing; the building was going to disappear into the abyss.
Wasting no time Dante and Vergil made their way up the now vertical turned floors avoiding crashing objects. In moments they were standing on the very tip of the right wing of the building watching the race sink into the red abyssal storm like a whirlpool.
"Fuck you got any ideas?" Dante asked watching some plates of steel get sucked down.
Vergil's gaze was turned to a structure far-off; a crumbling office building that was miles away. 'It's a long shot but we've got no choice!' Easing up his shoulders he grabbed Dante's shoulder. "Hold on tight." Was all he said before launching a phantom sword toward the platform.
Dante never gave any thought to what being an arrow or bullet was like but after his brother used one of his swords to teleport them of miles he had an idea. And he hated it.
"Hey I warned you that time." Vergil joked watching Dante stumble a little after being teleported such a distance. He was use to it, his brother not so much.
"I think I liked you better when you were about to turn evil on me." He growled shaking his head.
CRACK!
A giant, furry palm grabbed each boy and nearly crushed all their bones before the body it was attached to took off. The sons of Sparda were caught completely off guard but recovered when they realized the manticore had been waiting for them. Vergil stabbed Yamato deeply into its arm while Dante blasting it with the Revenant over and over again. The demon howled in pain releasing both boys who landed on a sizable platform.
From above the manticore fired more blasts of dark light only for Vergil to reflect them. Dante pelted the beast with bullets which only seemed to annoy it even more. Raising its head back it roared causing a pillar to black light to erupt between the boys. They fell backward but continued their assault making the manticore carve up the platform even more. Having enough it raised its right claw and engulfed with darkened light then dive bombed Vergil.
Vergil drew Yamato and held it in a reverse grip, blue energy raising around his form. When the manitcore threw its claw at the white haired twin he slammed his katana into the ground causing razor sharp swords to erupt from the ground and skewer its right arm. It made a swipe with its left arm but received a flaming fist to its ride side, sending it crashing against a building.
Shaking its head it vanished in cloud of dark feathers then reappeared over the boys tucked in a ball.
"Move!" Vergil ordered jumping to another platform just as the impact made the previous one shatter into pieces.
It came rushing out of the smoke still tucked ball from. Dante stepped up slamming the Eryx together in a challenging manner.
BOOM!
The collision knocked both the Nephilim and demon off their balance but Dante was the first to recover. He got in about five or six good blows before the manitcore spun itself around suing its dark light enhanced wings to knock him back twenty feet. It slammed its fist into Dante's chest earning a cry of pain. It raised it scorpion tail to finish the job but instead felt a sharp pain shot up its back. Turning around it saw Vergil had ran Yamato threw its tail leaving it impaled to the ground.
"Quite a dangerous little tool huh? Let's see how you do without!" using his superhuman strength Vergil lifted the manitcore up with and spun it around then tossed it into a collection of buildings that promptly collapsed on top of it.
Bursting from the rumble the demon roared angrily then encased both its horns in darkened light. It flew towards Vergil hoping to impale him on its horns just like it did earlier on.
Red energy flowed through Yamato as the demon grew closer and closer. A cold look developed in Vergil's blue-gray eyes.
CRICK!
The sound of Yamato cutting through both the demon's horns was like ten metal beams breaking at once. Blood sprayed from where the sword had cut through the skin making the manticore howl out in pain. Dante dashed forward bringing the Arbiter up creating a nice good gash then another on its abdomen. Spinning on its heels it thrust its tail towards him.
Vergil ran his hand along the tail freezing it so by the time it reached Dante it was nothing but a fragile piece of shining white ice. The older son of Sparda shattered it easily and jumped on top the demon's back just as it began to take off for flight. The two wrestled up in the air back and forth before the manticore was finally able to throw Dante off its back. As he fell he shot two darts into the manitcore's head that the demon ignored.
Giving one more roar it engulfed itself in an aura of dark light before dive bombing the boys once again, this time spinning. Watching the rotations Vergil carefully summoned a series of spectral swords all around it. When he saw his chance he launched them all, the manticore was caught in the middle of an octagonal shaped cut but still kept coming.
Dante detonated both the darts finally shacking the creature so that it crashed into the ground right in front of him. After a Snake Eyes Combo Dante performed a Rising Dragon that lifted the demon back into the air, then used slammed it back into the ground. Getting back up the manticore pounced on Vergil with both its claws and jaws, Vergil parried the attack with Yamato.
CRACK!
The manticore crushed the ground when it leaped at Vergil again with its arm shining with demonic light. It completely destroyed the ground but saw no trace of the white haired son of Sparda.
"Fool." Vergil's cold voice came as he reappeared on the demon's arm.
SWOSH!
Blood sprayed from the horizontal cut along the manitcore's face. It fell back using both clawed hands to cover its bleeding eyes. With its eyesight gone all it had now was its sense of smell. "You…will…pay…for that." Its gravel voice came out.
"Slam dunk!" Dante shouted appearing over the demon with the Arbiter gleaming. Surprisingly it caught Dante then grabbed Vergil in a vice grip. Giving both a squeeze it took to the skies again while lightly burning the skin off both boys.
It flew them higher and higher still squeezing the life out of the twins. Dante's anger boiled as he felt the demon's claws begin to sink into his skin and his brother's grunts of pain. His eyes glowed a feint blue color just as his fist slammed into the wrist of the manticore's arm. It gave a howl of pain releasing Dante who used the time to give the beast a bone shattering uppercut. Vergil broke free and snapped its other wrist then give the demon two quick kicks to the chest. Lifting their swords up both sons of Sparda brought their swords down parallel to each other.
THUMP!
Dante and Vergil walked up to the spot where the manticore had fell flat on its chest in a puddle of its own blood. Dante hefted Rebellion up to his shoulder looking the dying demon over. "Lights out ugly."
"It…is pointless." It growled out.
Curious Vergil looked the demon in the eye. "What's pointless?"
"What you two plan on doing." Its deep voice came out. "Your lives will end. It does not matter whether Rebellion cuts through Yamato or Yamato cuts through Rebellion, your fates are already sealed. Everything you both hold dear will suffer, everyone you treasure will die." Its wounded eyes locked on both Dante's and Vergil's. "You can't fight it."
Vergil glanced at his brother and he glanced back at him. An understanding passed through both their eyes. Vergil stepped up to Dante with Yamato drawn. "You don't know the family too well do you?"
"Rebellion runs in the blood." Dante said impaling the manticore's head just as Vergil brought Yamato down.
The demon's body went still then began to shake and lastly transform into a dark ball of light. Vergil reached out and the ball quickly disappeared into his arms. Silver gauntlets covered both of Vergil's hands and grieves covered his feet. Taking a deep breathe he felt the power of the Devil Arms rush into him then dismissed them.
"His name was Beowulf and besides capturing us that's all I could get out of him before he erased his mind." He said turning to Dante.
"I didn't know demons could do that." Dante said.
"If a demon is going to be turned into a Devil Arm or have its soul devoured some can erase all their memories. It's like a mental cyanide pill." Vergil was happy he'd gained a new weapon but a little upset Beowulf had kept him from finding out who was after them.
Overhead thunder boomed as meteors began to fall from the sky in rapid succession. Platforms began disappearing in flaming clouds or break into hundreds of pieces. The sons of Sparda made a bee line down a series of platforms into a cityscape they hoped to find a portal in.
Besides the sound of meteors sailing through the sky and buildings crumbling Dante couldn't hear much else but then something caught his attention.
RELEASE! LET ME…OUT! FREEDOM…YOU ALL!
'What the hell?' Dante thought jumping over a slab of stone. Turning his head he could faintly see in the distance a series of blue flames jet upward along with the cries of a wild horse.
FREEDOM!
The cries were loud and filled with anger and somehow Dante felt drawn to them. Chains rattling dancing with the whining and cries followed by demonic grunts and yelling. A jet of blue flames shot upward before disappearing.
"Dante come-on! We don't have time to stop!" Vergil shouted pulling his brother along.
Even as he ran the black-haired youth could still hear the cries of a wild horse. It stuck in his head well over everything else save for Vergil's voice.
I WILL HAVE MY FREEDOM!
"Shit." Vergil cursed seeing two portals on the verge of collapse before them. Both were flickering meaning they only had one chance and if they chose wrong…he didn't want to think about the outcome.
"We go right!" Dante said pointing at the right side portal.
"How can you know that?" Vergil questioned.
"Don't ask just go!" he pushed his brother toward the portal as the ruined city around them began to disappear in a sea of flames.
Vergil jumped through first then Dante.
"I think you chose the right one." Vergil said standing in the middle of the hallway with Dante right beside him.
"So did I." he whispered.
Before turning the knob on the door Vergil looked at his brother. "What happened back there?"
"I…I don't know." Dante admitted. "It's just like…I heard a horse, it was…it was saying it wanted its freedom." He shook his head looking back at the door. "Forget it, it's nothing."
Nodding his head Vergil turned the knob and pushed the door open to reveal the last stretch of their journey.
Again I'm sorry for being so late in updating. I hope this chapter was okay and I left some hints at what's coming for the future.
Mundus's goal: I know it's a little crazy but when I saw how DmC Mundus had a God complex (something I found kind of fitting) and original Mundus I thought it might make a pretty good far-fetched idea, especially with the addition of angels and the concept art of Silver Sacks Tower.
