Monday July 8, 2013
They had the rest of the holiday weekend off due to the fact that David went out of town, so today was the first time that Caroline and Klaus's new "friendship" would be tested at work, and Caroline was excited. It was such a relief to not have to dread going into work for fear of having to deal with antagonizing remarks, or sultry stares. Although, if she was being totally honest with herself…she didn't exactly mind those before either, what really ticked her off was the fact that she didn't mind. She should've been angry that someone had been teasing her and making fun of her! But for some reason with Klaus, the only thing that made her angry was the way he made her feel…or the way he had made her feel, past tense! Now that they were friends it was okay if she found his company pleasant! That is totally normal behavior for friends' right? Well she guesses she'd find out.
She typed away on her iPhone as she walked toward her trailer. The rest of the weekend had been really fun, she had spent most of it with Stefan and Katherine, both of whom were staying in town for a while since neither had other projects they were currently working on. Katherine had been pretty quiet about her new friendship with Klaus since her whole "bottle" outburst at the party. Honestly, did Katherine not trust that Caroline could be friends with someone of the opposite sex without well…sex. I mean come on; this was the 21st century, just because Klaus was a man does not mean Caroline automatically is attracted to him. Because come on, she was not attracted to him! Well not that much anyway, I mean did she recognize that Klaus was technically pretty good looking? Yes, of course. But again, Klaus was just her friend so that wasn't really something she thought about…or at least that's what she kept telling Katherine.
Caroline was still texting on her phone when she walked into her trailer, she had just got a message from Tyler saying his plane landed. He was in London for a week or so doing some interviews for his new film. Honestly, actors might spend more time doing publicity for their films, than they actually do acting, sometimes this industry was just ridiculous.
She finally finished typing a reply, and she threw her phone in her bag, when she looked up and almost had a heart attack.
"Shit!" she screamed, jumping a little in shock.
Klaus was sitting on the couch in her trailer, holding two coffees, looking a bit startled himself.
"Sorry love, I didn't mean to give you a fright, I just thought you might be thirsty" he smiled apologetically, then seeming to notice how his words might have sounded he grimaced, and added "For caffeine."
Caroline smiled at his little blunder, and his sweet offer. He was so cute when he was embarrassed….in a totally FRIENDLY way of course. Her heart was still beating from being surprised like that as she reached out to take the coffee he was handing her,
"Oh its fine, you really didn't have to do this Klaus" she said, although she was extremely grateful since she had skipped out on her daily dose of caffeine that morning.
Klaus just grinned at her,
"Think of it as a toast to our new friendship" he joked, holding his cup up in the air.
She smirked at how adorable he was being. Man who knew he had it in him?
Caroline then held her cup in the air in a similar gesture,
"I'll drink to that."
They stood there in a comfortable silence for a while, until Klaus reached into his bag and pulled out what looked like two scripts.
"So listen, I was actually hoping that maybe we could go over one of our scenes for today, I just want to make sure it's perfect" he said holding a script out to her.
"Sure" Caroline smiled, "I'd love to."
They began rehearsing the scene, but nothing really felt right. It was a scene in which Caroline's character got some rather bad news and sort of had a breakdown, and Klaus' character was supposed to console her. However, for some reason the way they were acting out the scene just didn't feel right. Up to this point it just seemed a little rigid; Klaus coming up and letting her put her head on his chest, while she cried.
"It just feels a little cold to me" Caroline said in a contemplative manner, "I don't think the emotion is really getting across."
Klaus nodded in agreement, as he cast his eyes downward in thought, then suddenly he looked up at her.
"Well maybe we could try it a different way?" he proposed
Caroline raised her eyebrow, her face uncertain.
"Trust me, just follow my lead" he said with certainty.
Caroline nodded and they began going through the scene again. Everything was basically the same until they got to the part where Caroline begins to cry, and she's supposed to say "I can't breathe." This is where up until this moment Caroline had put her head on Klaus' chest as he held her. But here Klaus did something different. Instead of pulling her into his chest he stepped forward and grabbed her hands.
Taking her hands he placed them on his chest,
"Shhh love, its okay" he said softly, surprising Caroline a little with the improved line.
Then he surprised her even more by reaching his hand up, and caressing her face with his thumb. He then took his thumb and tilted her chin up a little.
"Look at me" he whispered sensually,
Caroline lifted her head and met his eyes, which were dark with emotion, as he brought his other hand up to cradle her face. Then he began leaning in. Caroline's heart began beating wildly. What was he doing, was he going to kiss her? That wasn't supposed to be part of the scene!
Then he whispered so low that she almost didn't hear it, "Trust me."
She didn't know if he was saying this in character, or to Caroline herself, but she did what he asked. He kept getting closer and closer to her until she was almost positive he was going to kiss her. Their faces were less than an inch apart. She could feel the heat of his breath on her lips. Her breath hitched in anticipation. She closed her eyes. And then right before his lips touched hers, the door to her trailer opened.
In walked Katherine and some stage hand.
"Oh!" they both shouted in surprise, inadvertently turning away as Caroline and Klaus sprung apart.
Heat flooded to Caroline's cheeks as she struggled for words.
"We were just practicing a scene" she stammered, holding her script up like a white flag.
Klaus stood back and kept his head down, and then awkwardly looked up at the three of them,
"Right, well I think that will work" he said, awkwardly gesturing to the place they had just been standing,
"I better be going now, enjoy the coffee" he said flustered, and with that he walked out of the trailer.
It was now just the three of them standing there awkwardly as Katherine glared at Caroline, and the stage hand looked down at the floor.
Finally, the stage hand piped up,
"Is that all you will be needing Ms. Pierce?"
Katherine turned back to the stage hand, seemingly forgetting she was standing there,
"Yes, that will be all, thank you dear."
The stage hand all but bolted out of the trailer, leaving Katherine and Caroline in the trailer alone. Caroline had a hard time meeting her friend's eyes at the moment. While Katherine, on the other hand, had no difficulty trying to meet Caroline's, as she stood by the door, arms crossed.
Finally, Caroline gathered the courage to speak up,
"I know what that looked like" she said, gesturing much like Klaus had to where they were standing, "but we really were just running a scene" she said half-heartedly, hearing how ridiculous that sounded even as she said it, despite the fact that it was the truth. It was the truth…wasn't it?
Katherine still said nothing as she continued to stare at Caroline. Caroline fidgeted uncomfortably under her glare for a while, before she, couldn't take it anymore.
"Ok enough!" she shouted, "Just say whatever it is you're going to say, and let's get it over with."
Katherine rolled her eyes, as she finally moved from her spot, and walked further into the trailer, sitting down on the couch,
"I have nothing to say."
Caroline rolled her eyes at her friend's tactic,
"Come on Katherine, since when do you have nothing to say?" she said, attempting a joke to lighten the mood.
Katherine apparently didn't think the joke was very funny though, because she kept quiet while she inspected her meticulous manicure. Caroline watched her for another few seconds before she had had enough of the silent treatment.
"Katherine!"
Finally Katherine looked up from her nails at Caroline,
"What do you want me to say Care? I told you so? Is that what you want to hear?"
She shook her head in denial at her friend's words,
"No, it wasn't like that, we really were just running a scene!" she exclaimed, frustrated.
Katherine let out a harsh laugh, "Really? Because I seem to remember you telling me that your onscreen kiss wasn't for another couple weeks!"
Caroline stood there with her arms crossed, unsure of what exactly to say. She understood why Katherine was mad, and she understood what the situation looked like, but honestly, she couldn't explain what had just happened to Katherine, because she wasn't fully sure herself. Was that all part of the scene? Was Klaus acting? And, the more important question, was she?
Katherine sighed, looking at Caroline with less anger and more sympathy now.
"Look, I just don't want to see you get hurt," she said, as she stood up and walked over to Caroline.
Caroline smiled a little at her friend's protectiveness,
"Kat I appreciate it, I really do, but trust me, no one is going to be getting hurt, we are just friends, barely even," she joked with a reassuring smile.
Katherine smiled reluctantly, "Ok, I believe you, but you better go."
She frowned in confusion, her forehead crinkling as she did so,
"What why?"
Katherine looked down at her nails again, "I might believe you, but that doesn't mean that little stage hand did" she said matter of factly, "she's probably telling all her friends about how the stars of the movie are sleeping together as we speak."
Caroline let out a groan at Katherine's prediction. Damn it. The last thing she needed was another magazine cover about her alleged affair. She picked up her coffee, and took a big sip of it before she headed out the door to deal with the stage hand.
"Have fun" Katherine called after her, as Caroline rolled her eyes at her friend. She was not going to hear the end of this for a while.

Caroline stormed onto the set looking every which way for any site of the stage hand.
"Damn it," she muttered under her breath, in this town, just the hint of a story would sell, proof or not.
She was walking over to the craft services station, when she saw the stage hand talking to someone with their back turned to her, and thus obscured from her vision. Thank God, she thought, as she walked up to the stage hand, and the man.
"Excuse me, sorry for interrupting," she said cutting into the conversation.
The stage hand and the man turned to look at the interruption.
"Klaus?" she said in surprise, "I didn't even recognize you," she said, stating the obvious.
Klaus chuckled trying to smooth over the awkwardness, "Ouch love, I'm not going to say that doesn't hurt," he joked, bringing his hand up to his chest feigning pain.
Caroline forced a smile on her face in the presence of the other girl,
"What are you doing talking to…um..."
"Davina," the other girl piped in
Caroline smiled gratefully, "Right, Davina," she finished.
Klaus grinned flirtatiously at Davina, the kind of grin that shows off his dimples, as he placed his hand on her arm. Caroline tensed up a little unexpectedly at the action.
"Well, I was just explaining to Davina, about the misunderstanding back there," Klaus said, his voice full of charm and persuasion.
Caroline was shocked, but pleasantly so. The fact that Klaus cared enough to talk to the stage hand and make sure she didn't spread any rumors, meant a lot to her. Although, was he doing it to protect her reputation, or his? She guessed it didn't really matter, although for some reason the thought of Klaus wanting to protect her like that gave her a warm feeling in her stomach.
Davina nodded energetically, as she gazed up at Klaus,
"Yes, don't worry Ms. Forbes, Mr. Mikaelson explained about the nature of the scene and what not"
Klaus smirked down at the doting girl, "Oh please love, call me Klaus."
Davina let out a ridiculous giggle that made Caroline roll her eyes as she tried hard not to projectile vomit on the whole situation,
"Right, well I'm so glad that's all cleared up now, but if you'll excuse me I have to get back to work" she said, smiling sweetly as she turned to walk away.
When she was about ten feet away she heard him call out to her over her shoulder,
"Hey Caroline, wait up!"
She turned around, to see him jogging lightly toward her, a lopsided smirk on his face. She smiled at him as he approached,
"Thanks for doing that back there," she said, gesturing in the direction of the Craft Services station.
He put his hands in his pockets, and looked down at his feet,
"Right, well we wouldn't want anyone to get the wrong idea about us, would we?" he said softly, shrugging his shoulders as he peeked up at her from the ground, his eyes finding hers immediately. They were so hard to read; sometimes she had no idea what he was thinking. Right now was one of those times. The question was obviously rhetorical, but why did she feel like he hadn't meant it that way after all?
Her eyes drifted down to his lips for a second before flicking back up to his face, smiling softly she said,
"No, we wouldn't."
He nodded his head slowly, as he shuffled back and forth on his feet,
"Shall we get to work then?" he said, gesturing to the set where they were about to film.
Caroline smiled at him, as he looked down at her with that lopsided grin,
"We shall," she said, and the two of them went to work.
The rest of the week Klaus and Caroline got along perfectly great without any arguments. Everyone had noticed the change in dynamic between the two, and was surprised at the new friendship, but not many people actually asked about it.
Bonnie did ask her what happened, since the last time she saw them together they were seconds away from blows, but she just smiled and said that Klaus wasn't so bad after all.
While all this was true, and Klaus was being the perfect gentleman, she had to admit she had made a slight effort to avoid him. It wasn't that she didn't enjoy his company…it was just sometimes she felt she enjoyed it more than she should. She would deny it to Katherine until she was blue in the face, but deep down she obviously knew that she was attracted to Klaus. For some reason, whenever he smiled at her, with those perfect dimples, and those bright blue eyes, she felt her stomach fall out of her body for a second, and the urge to go over to him and do some…not so friendly things to him if you know what I mean…
Not to mention the fact that with Tyler home, she constantly felt on edge, and kind of guilty. I mean she had a perfectly attractive boyfriend, who was great, and sweet! But for some reason…lately he hadn't been making her feel much of anything. It was like they had gotten too comfortable with each other. They barely ever had sex anymore, what with all the traveling, and even when Tyler was home, they barely even really talked. Hopefully all that would change soon though. Tyler had finished promoting his movie, and then was going to Georgia for a couple weeks to wrap on a movie. After that he would be home for a while and they could hopefully rekindle the flame in their relationship.
In the meantime though there was no harm in spending time with Klaus, right? Since they had decided to be friends he had surprised her with how good of a guy he could actually be. It was like he was a whole different person really.
Caroline was leaving the set for the day, done with all her scenes when she heard someone call out her name.
"Caroline!" Klaus shouted
She turned around to see him jogging toward her; she smiled at him as he approached her.
"Hey there stranger, I haven't seen you all day," she said light heartedly, as she tucked a piece of hair behind her ear.
Klaus looked at her smirking, with his hands in his pockets as he rocked back and forth on the balls of his feet,
"Right well, I am a very busy man you know," he said feigning seriousness,
"Oh I don't doubt it, Mr. Mikaelson," she joked back, both of them chuckling at their banter.
They stood in a comfortable silence like that for a while, just sort of staring into each other eyes, before Caroline cleared her throat and looked down, breaking eye contact.
"So, umm, is there something I can help you with?" she questioned curiously.
Klaus shook his head as if to shake himself out of a trance, trying to remember why he had approached the blonde in the first place.
"Actually, yes, there is something," he said shyly, pausing for a response.
When she didn't say anything, he nodded his head and continued.
"Well, you and I are friends right?"
Caroline raised her eyebrows confused a little at where he was going with, but she answered with a hesitant,
"Righttt…"
Not deterred at all by her hesitancy though, Klaus continued,
"And wouldn't you say that it is a social normality for friends to sometimes spend time with each other outside of the work setting?" he said logically, giving her a cheeky smile.
Caroline let out a soft laugh at his tactics,
"Righttt…"
"Well than putting two and two together, it would also be socially acceptable for me, to ask you, my friend, to lunch Sunday… strictly platonically of course," he finished with a broad smile, but not one of his normal cocky smiles, this one was a lot more earnest, and maybe even a little nervous..
Caroline looked down to hide the slight blush that was covering her cheeks, as she couldn't help but smile brightly at his adorable offer. Tyler was leaving Saturday, so since she had no plans Sunday, she saw nothing wrong with having a completely platonic lunch with her friend. After all Klaus was right, it was totally normal to spend time with friends!
"Hmmm..." she pretended to debate, as she brought her pointer finger to her chin, in a pondering position.
Klaus put his palms together as he bowed his head a little toward her,
"Pretty please, do a lad a favor, love?" he begged, biting on his lip in fake worry.
Caroline tried to ignore how sexy she found that, as she laughed and nodded her head,
"Alright Mikaelson, you got it, it's a date!" she said radiantly.
Klaus raised his eyes, questioning her word choice, as Caroline hastily tried to back track,
"I mean it's a non-date!" she spit out nervously,
But Klaus merely laughed, finding her embarrassment adorable,
"Right, love, well I'll see you Sunday then, for our 'non-date' then" he whispered in her ear, sending shivers down her spine, before winking, and walking away.
Caroline stood there for another moment, eyes closed, before shaking herself, trying to rid her body's memory of the way it felt when he whispered in her ear. She gulped, and then opened her eyes, smiling as she thought about their "non-date." She knew Katherine would be mad when she told her about her and Klaus' lunch plans together, but she would just be reading too much into it! After all, what's the worst that can happen on a "non-date"…I guess she was going to find out.
AN: Okay what did you guys think? Do you guys like Katherine, or do you think she is being too hard on Caroline? Do you like the Klaroline interaction? And what do you think will happen on their "non-date" next chapter... Leave a review and let me know ;)
