It was a dream. A peaceful dream where you can find rest, a dream where you could wake the next morning and not feel like you've been stepped on by your Lord. Though as odd as the moment was he felt it stranger that he heard a loud shriek within the small-very small walls of his head where such things were being conjured. It was sound that can be described as surprise, or was it panicked?

"Jaken-!"

He woke with a start to find Rin silhouette in his dark room. His mind was still too asleep to understand what was happening. "What-" he cleared his throat from the doze it still seemed to be spellbound to. "What are you doing here?"

She was gasping and though his body knew something was wrong his mind was still too numb to know what was wrong with Rin.

"My- My water broke."

He thought back. Things fell into place.

He wasn't sleepy anymore.

Jaken was panting, his lungs still numb, his feet hurrying as much as they could. Rin! Rin's water broke! And where was Sesshomaru? Wasn't he supposed to, Jaken shivered at he thought, sense those things? Last he seen him he looked… exhausted, could it be that he was too tired to know? Or maybe it was that she was too far away and maybe that's why he wasn't able to detect it? But what does it matter now? Oh, he has to tell him!

When he knocked on the door and his Lord answered he went as quickly as he could informing him of everything that took place less than fifteen minutes ago.

Where is Rin?

I left here with a servant. She's requesting your presence.

Sesshomaru thought for a moment.

She asked for Inuyasha's wife, she told me that only she can help. I have prepared everything to set out.

No.

What?

Jaken watched as his Lord took only Bakusaiga from the far side of the wall and retrieved the room. He didn't have any of his armor. He just interrupted his rest. What is he doing? He called out to him.

"You will stay with Rin. I will look for Inuyasha's wife myself. You will take too long and now time can't be wasted."

And like that Jaken watched him disappear. He sighed.

"Why must it be me!"

Sesshomaru tried to keep his mind blank while he was on his way to his brother's village. He only kept busy by counting down the minutes before he arrived. He knew that if he let his mind wonder to… what was happening at his palace he might as well throw his sanity out a window. He wonder briefly if his father felt what he is feeling right now or if he was calm and collected, under control like he always was and seemed to be. And what of Inuyasha? Surly he was experienced by now or did he still get nervous? Sesshomaru thought of asking him if he had the chance.

For a second Sesshomaru stopped his chase so he could reprimand himself. Was he losing his mind? How can he even think of asking brother- half breed brother for advice?

Sesshomaru swallowed, shook his head and put his cold mask on.

He was here.

Inuyasha was waiting outside for him, arms crossed, eyes tired as if he hadn't slept in days and he couldn't be annoyed with his brothers presence at the moment. Then it hit him. Inuyasha had had a child recently and this must be the face of tireless quarantine nights and restless working days. Sesshomaru wasn't very sure if he was ready for that? Did he even have a choice?

Sesshomaru vialed his face with reproach. "Inuyasha I must speak to your wife."

Inuyasha rubbed an exhausted hand down his face and this surprised Sesshomaru even more. He wasn't going to fight him, or less insult him? Suddenly he was stroke by an overwhelming feeling of foreshadowing. Was this what his life was going to become in a matter of hours? He had to admit that he wasn't ready, he hadn't even realize how close his life was coming to an end just a few hours prior.

"If you want to get your head decapitated be my guest, brother." Sesshomaru had to bit his tongue before he replied.

Inuyasha was much like Jaken. It was almost impossible not to roll his eyes at him. "This is no time to joke around, Inuyasha. Rin- Rin-" he found himself without words as if his own body didn't fully understand how grave the situation was until he had speak of it out loud. His eyebrows furrowed. The realization hit him again. His eyes grew wide. "She-"

"Well, shit." was what Inuyasha said. "Let me get Kagome." And then he disappeared inside his hut.

Sesshomaru shook his head. Did Inuyasha even understood what he was saying-trying to say? Then he shook himself again for being so stupid. Of course he does. Inuyasha is on his third child now, he's use to it by now. But… would he? He started to deny with his head. No, absolutely not. He won't have more… more half-breeds and if it were for his current situation he might as well have none. Then something hit him again. Since when did he decided that Rin was going to be his only suitor?

Sesshomaru sighed, already feeling his state match his brothers. He was so tired of being surprise with himself and stricken by small revelation he didn't even know he had. Rin hadn't even given birth and he was already losing his mind.

Suddenly Sesshomaru's eyes were drawn to the outlet of the door where a small figure was watching him. It was one of Inuyasha's son. Too quickly he was aware of his surroundings, the voices of Inuyasha and his wife arguing inside the hut, a child crying and lastly the gritting stare the kid was giving him.

Sesshomaru had half the mind to scare him off. He didn't have the time to be annoyed at this moment.

"You aren't mean, right?" he didn't even wait for an answer. "I hope you aren't mean, though. Lady Rin is so nice to me. She deserves someone as equally as nice."

Another surprise to his growing list of amazement. How old was this kid? And he was here, telling him what to do. He was telling him to be pleasant as if he understood his hatred and reproach, as if he knew Rin deserved someone who could tolerate- love one of her creations. As if he knew how sca-

"But you aren't crazy, right?" he said this very serious.

"What?" it was but above a whisper all his voice could produce.

"Geeto!" Inuyasha's crashed the atmosphere. "Why aren't you sleeping? Ugh, never mind tell Sango you'll be staying over at their place tonight- this morning, whatever just go." Inuyasha watched his son run off before he told a smaller one the same and watch him run off as well.

Inuyasha made his way over his brother just as his wife came out and came to stand a few paces away from Sesshomaru. She handed a baby over to Inuyasha who quickly cradled it in his arms.

"Okay," Kagome said, rubbing a hand through her eyes. He noticed that she had deep dark bags under her eyes and she looked she hadn't known sleep in weeks. "I want to get this right because if I just woke up for nothing-" she sighed. "Rin- her water broke? Are you absolutely sure? Did you saw it? Did she tell you?"

He hope Jaken was right because if he's not he's the one who will be dealing with his brother's wife. He answered, "Yes."

"Well, this is bad," she murmured, already lost in thought.

"What is, honey?" his brother ask, his eyes still trained on the baby in his arms.

Sesshomaru felt more repulsed not only by the way his brother spoke to his wife but by the implications of what Kagome said. What was bad? What was wrong?

"Well, Rin is eight months pregnant and though it's very normal to have premature deliveries considering what happened eight months prior when she conceive I have to worry. Or… it can be something else entirely."

"Hm." was Inuyasha only acknowledgement of Kagome's words. "Kikyo looks so peaceful when she sleeps."

Sesshomaru rolled his eyes before he sighed. He directed to Kagome, "What do you say that? What other explanation can there be?"

Kagome bit her lip, looking for the first time slightly nervous. She exhaled. "Well, it's more typical for a women to give birth after eight months when she is expected to have…twins." She said the last part very, very low but Sesshomaru heard perfectly.

It seemed fate couldn't help laughing at him.

"What was that, honey?" Inuyasha ask interested, looking up for the first time.

"Twins."

Twins. Sesshomaru felt like he was going to vomit. Not only had been horribly nervous for the outcome that was about to change his life forever but now he was scared out of his mind that it was going to be multiplied by two. It took a long for him to admit it but if he had to confess he wouldn't have if it wasn't for the fact that the problem was two times greater than before.

He was more uncomfortable with the way his brother was looking at him. Sympathetic. To think that just a few days ago he had felt the same thing. But unlike him Inuyasha didn't look repulsed by the very least.

Sesshomaru shook his head, focusing at the path head as his brother kept an even pace with his. Inuyasha's wife was on his back and seemed to have fallen asleep in the process. He told himself that he should concentrate on the present instead of worrying over the future. Concentrate.

Concentrate.

"I'm sorry," said Inuyasha and before Sesshomaru could even summon a rational thought he continued. "When I- we thought Rin was… dead we should have told you. But the thing is…we didn't know how." He laughed, trying to keep even breaths as they ran. "You love her so much that if I told you she was dead you would have kill me."

Sesshomaru turned to his brother. Then quickly ahead. He narrowed his eyes. "Now is not the time, Inuyasha."

He thought maybe this would get his brother annoyed and probably with a little more bickering he could make him leave, then he would just have to carry Inuyasha's wife to his palace and not have to worry about more annoyances.

He was wrong. "You're right."

Sesshomaru wonder briefly as to why after years of rivalry his brother was being so nice as if all was long forgotten, as if it never existed and they share (Sesshomaru wanted to vomit again) some kind of sibling relationship. Then he thought of something. Usually people are pleasant to you when something bad befalls you, it's like a type of silent condolences.

But what did Inuyasha had to feel sorry for?

Jaken left an hour ago because there still wasn't a room ready for the baby… or babies.

Sesshomaru ran a hand through his hair.

When they arrive Rin said she was felling cramps and Kagome theorized that she was starting to get her "contractions". He could only made eyes contact with Rin before Kagome shooed him away.

The door from one of medical rooms shut like a death sentence.

That was an hour ago.

Inuyasha was sitting beside him on chairs that lined the walls every few doors. There was only silence aside from Inuyasha's wife giving instructions, the servants that worked at this side of the palace helping her, and Rin. He tried not to be overwhelmed or to think about the seconds before it- they arrive. Before he hears a cry.

"I know it will sound like bullshit coming from me but it will be okay. It is not as big of a deal as it seems." Inuyasha said.

Sesshomaru glared at him. Surely he was mistaken because his brother has never been this… this sensitive. Why could Inuyasha feel the need to make him feel better?

Inuyasha sighed. "I'm just saying since I seem to be an expert and all but I guess the real expert here is Miroku. Boy, does he have kids-"

"I don't need this right now, brother."

"Right," Inuyasha said as he stood. "Well, I guess I'll just leave you here and wait." He started walking off without giving any more explanations.

Sesshomaru was relief even though he felt a little if slightly-none excitant guilt for the way he treated Inuyasha but if he was frank it was microscopic the need he felt to be accepted by his brother. So he was all but glad he left him alone.

Now all he had to do was wait.

The door opened ten minutes later.

Without him knowing Sesshomaru stood up.

On the underside was Kagome, her eyes were downcast. Her features were covered in blood, sweat and something else. Immediately he knew that something bad had happened.

"I'm so sorry," she said, "I tried everything I could."

He was half about to ask what she meant, his mind already creating ninety nine explanations. But then he noticed the gestures she did with her arms and he saw it.

It was a bundle of sheet. She didn't need to say anything else. Sesshomaru felt nothing. It was quite a strange feeling. Like there was no thought or voice. No opinions. If you knock you'd find nothing. Nobodies there.

Suddenly Inuyasha's women was thrusting the bundle in his arm. "I have to work on the other one. I need to clean her up." She said, looking at him in the eyes as if trying to find his find his reaction. "Rin's unconscious though-" with that she left as some servant called to her. All that was heard was a child crying on the other side of the door. Kagome humming in a form of comfort to the small creature. The servants cleaning and talking.

The night was quickly turning to dawn.

Maybe a minute when by before he realize what he held in his hands. A dead child.

Involuntarily a shiver ran through him. He blinked

Sesshomaru shook his head before he took one hand and removed the sheet that was covering the face of this- his dead child. He knew he shouldn't. If he was so overwhelmed now what good would it be putting a face-

Sesshomaru couldn't help gasp. Couldn't help but acknowledge the fact that his arms were made- engineered before he was even born himself to hold this form in his shaking arms-

It was boy. He has black hair and a single crescent moon on his forehead, strangely he had no stripes at the side of his face. It struck him that unlike Inuyasha his ears where perfectly a lined with his face.

One thought stuck in his head from all the tangles, twisted ones. Beautiful. This in his hand is so beautiful.

Sesshomaru knew he shouldn't think that for an instant. Or even say it out loud where others can hear. He had rejected- hated this since the moment he found out it excited eight months ago, he's not worthy to say such things. What a fool he is? He truly is his father's son. He truly deserved this turn of events. But not his son.

All too quickly he was crashed with a wave of sadness. He considered mourning, something he has never known and never done. Not that it mattered, it seemed today was a day to do unexpected things.

Soon he realized that he was too angry for that.

Why must everything he cares for dies?

Then it hit him. Like everything that has ever hit him since Jaken knocked on his door.

Sesshomaru closed the door to his room just slightly.

He carefully located the bundle of sheets on his bed.

He took a deep breath.

He went to retrieve Tensaiga and stood looking down at his son. Quickly he disposed of demons that were surrounding his body.

Then he heard it.

A small whimper before a cry. Sobs of life- new life.

It took a moment before Sesshomaru could react- he was supposed to do something.

Sesshomaru fidgeted for a moment until he had his son in his arms. Instantly the baby quieted. It shock Sesshomaru even more. It was like he had recognized his arms even though this was the first time he was held- technically speaking.

His son opened his eyes slightly he saw the strangest color. It was a brownish yellow. Like mashed colors. It was a little of him and a little of her. It was like a better version of himself.

He sat at his bed.

He thought he knew he loved Rin but this-this is a different type of love entirely.

He never thought he love something he just met ten minutes ago.

And

he loves

this.
